The Vampire Diaries is a TV show that aired on The CW from 2009 to 2017. The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, a small town that has a whole bunch of history. A large part of the history of the town is rooted in the supernatural, like all the spooky supernatural creatures that live in the city. Although most of the citizens of Mystic Falls have no idea that werewolves, witches, and vampires roam the streets with them, there are a lot of members of the town that totally know about them and try their best to get rid of them.
The main character in the series is a high school student named Elena Gilbert who has no idea about vampires until the day comes that she meets a mysterious new student at school who she gets feelings for and eventually learns isn't all that new, he's been living in Mystic Falls for over 150 years because he's a vampire! The series may have ended, but that doesn't mean that fans aren't still totally obsessed. It gave us so many memorable moments and quotes, so who can blame people for wanting to re-watch the series again?

Very funny. Anyone who likes their vampire TV shows and movies will know that even though this was a quote from The Vampire Diaries, it's actually referencing another popular work of vampire fiction: Twilight. In The Vampire Diaries, Damon and Stefan are able to go out into the sunlight with the use of Daylight Rings. In Twilight, the vampires can go out in the sun, they just shouldn't. Not because it's going to hurt them but because it actually makes their skin sparkle and shine. Um, what highlighter do the Cullens wear? We need to know! Who asked this question to one of the vampires?
"In that moment, I loved him. I didn't want to, I mean, it terrified me, but for that moment, I loved him."
Realizing that you have feelings for someone can be a pretty complicated situation. No one knows that better than the people who live in Mystic Falls. After all, falling in love with someone in Mystic Falls means there's a pretty good chance that they might be a werewolf or a vampire. Or, if you're a werewolf or vampire yourself, there's a really good chance that they might be a human who is definitely not ready to deal with all your supernatural baggage. This quote came from a character who realized they had some seriously strong feelings for someone that they maybe shouldn't have for reasons like those.
"For over a century, I have lived in secret. Until now. I know the risk but I have to know her."
This iconic quote came really early in the series and was said by one of the two Salvatore brothers, so fans of The Vampire Diaries are going to need to think hard to figure out who said this one. We all know which of the Salvatore brothers Elena met first when she went to school, right? This quote came from a voiceover after the two of them met when that same character was at home, writing in his diary about what it was like to meet her upon his return to his hometown. Falling for a human is risky, but he was convinced it's worth it!
"I don't hurt people. I don't do that. I'm the good brother."
Even though Damon and Stefan are brothers, the two of them are really not that similar to one another. Sure, they both grew up in Mystic Falls, they were both in love with Katherine Pierce, and they were both turned by that same vampire who they both loved. But honestly, that's about where the similarities between these two stop. When it comes to personalities, they couldn't be more different! One of them is sarcastic and a little broody while the other one is more friendly and chipper to be around and talk to. Which of them described themselves as "the good brother"?

Elena Gilbert is the main character in The Vampire Diaries and, when the show begins, she's a human, despite the title of the series. She's a teenager living in Mystic Falls who recently lost her parents and is just trying to live her life from one day to the next. To help her through it, she has a group of close friends and family members that are always there for her. Things definitely change when she gets introduced to the supernatural world brewing beneath Mystic Falls, but she's still the same kind-hearted, warm person she was all along. Who else remembers the early episodes of The Vampire Diaries when a couple of the main characters did still use diaries? Yep, the show had that name for a reason back when it began! This quote is from a voiceover done by one of the main characters in one of the earlier episodes of the series when they were writing in their diary about the tough day that they had been having. Whoa! Many people in the world would surely disagree, we think. For people who are in love, it's a beautiful feeling and definitely something that people are excited to share with the world. We can't blame them, to be honest! Being in love with another person is wonderful, especially when they share those feelings with you. This character is one that is clearly not currently in love with anyone who shares their feelings and they're not in the mood to let anyone bring their gloomy mood up. Yikes! How many fans of The Vampire Diaries recognize this moody and sarcastic quote?
"Stefan is different. He wants to be human."
This quote is one that was said about one of the main vampires in The Vampire Diaries. When the series begins, Stefan Salvatore is a vampire who has been alive for over 150 years. While many vampires in the series love to be vampires and are totally happy to keep on living their supernatural life, there are a few of them that would rather be a regular person. Honestly, we totally get that struggle. It can't be easy to try to hide a huge part of who you are from so many people and all those vampire cravings have got to be inconvenient.
"Have I entered an alternate universe where Stefan is fun?"
Hey! Stefan is fun! ...In his own way. Let's be honest, between the two Salvatore brothers, Damon is definitely the funnier one. He's witty and sarcastic and even though he's definitely not always the more positive of the brothers, his moody attitude and quick wit always make us laugh. Stefan is definitely slightly more serious but in a positive way and while Damon's joking and pessimism tend to get under Stefan's nerves, it's just plain mean to say that Stefan isn't fun. While we're totally ready to defend the nicer Salvatore brother, we get where this character was coming from saying that he can be dull.
"He’s your first love. I intend to be your last, however long it takes."
How romantic! This quote is a pretty special one from the series and fans of the couple that this quote is about will definitely remember immediately which of these characters said this. There were so many couples in The Vampire Diaries, some of them lasted until the end of the series while others just couldn't make things work. We were so happy to see the ones we loved together in the finale and sad to see the ones that didn't make it part ways. This quote came from one of these romantic guys when he was talking to the Mystic Falls girl he had his eye on.
"But how do I stop the monster without becoming one myself?"
This is definitely a good question! The idea of humanity and having actual feelings toward other people is something that comes up several times during The Vampire Diaries. In fact, there are some vampires that actually "turn off" their humanity in order to avoid feeling things during tough times. This quote came from one of these supernatural characters who was trying to figure out how to stop another vampire that was causing a lot of trouble in Mystic Falls. While there are a lot of quick and easy solutions to stopping a vampire, this character was concerned about being just as bad as who they were trying to stop.

Anyone who watched The Vampire Diaries will probably remember that there was some drama surrounding Elena and her parents, or should we say... Her adoptive parents. That's right, at one point in the series Elena Gilbert learns that the people she grew up believing were her parents were actually a couple that had adopted her and that her biological parents were totally different people. Viewers are introduced to these two during the series and it makes for some pretty intense moments and unforgettable quotes like this one about Elena's confusing family tree. Even though the main character in The Vampire Diaries is a human, at least in the beginning of the series, there's still a lot of focus on the supernatural characters that are roaming the streets of Mystic Falls. From vampires to ghosts to witches and werewolves, there are a lot of non-human creatures that are living in this town and are featured in the series at different times! This quote came from one of these characters who was speaking to a vampire about still seeing some human aspects to this vampire, underneath their pale, immortal shell. Who said this quote?
"If I see something I haven't seen before, I'll throw a dollar at it."
Being a vampire means that you're going to be alive for a long, long time. That means that you're going to be able to have time to watch all the movies, play all the games, and travel to all the places that you've ever dreamed of. Because of this, it means that you're going to see a lot of things during your incredibly long life. This quote came from a vampire who had just interrupted a personal moment between two other characters and when they tried to make this vampire leave, they responded with this hilariously unforgettable quote. "I'm not sad. I'm hungry!"
We feel this. Honestly, being a vampire must be pretty tough. When we get hungry, we can just head to the kitchen or open a food delivery app and get some food. Considering what vampires eat, we all know that's not quite so easy for them. Although being a little bit down isn't exactly out of character for this emotional vampire, he definitely took a moment to remind everyone that it wasn't the case this time. His mood wasn't from feeling a little blue but instead, it came from the fact that he had a craving he just couldn't take care of.
"I know not to pet one."
This sarcastic quote came while two characters were talking about werewolves. Someone else asked this character how much they know about vampires and they replied with this witty remark. Very funny! While that's hilarious, we have to admit that this kind of sarcastic retort would probably be a little frustrating considering werewolves are serious and having them just wandering around Mystic Falls, without having someone to stop them from causing trouble in the small town, is not a good idea! At the same time, this character is right and werewolves are definitely not a creature that you should mess with, no matter how soft they look.
"By the owner or person of entitlement. Short-term rentals and hotels are a bit of a gray area. You kinda gotta play it by ear."
In many works of vampire fiction, vampires have a lot of different abilities but of course, those abilities come with some really unique weaknesses. One weakness that appears in several vampire movies and TV shows, including The Vampire Diaries, is the fact that vampires can't actually go into a house without permission from the person who owns the house. So, a vampire has to be told that they can come in by the person who owns the house or someone who lives in it before they can step foot through the door. Of course, as this vampire explained, this gets a little complicated in situations like hotel rooms.
"I see myself. A less dashing, less intelligent version."
Whoever said this is clearly someone who thinks very highly of themselves. This character said this quote when they were talking to another character about how similar the two of them are and how this character sees themselves in the other character. Of course, there are some differences. Like the fact that this character considers themselves so much more dashing and intelligent than the person they were talking to and comparing themselves to. Confidence is definitely a good thing! But it's safe to say that some people tend to take that a little too far. Who knows which charismatic character said this?
"We choose our own path. Our values and our actions, they define who we are."
This quote is definitely something that's true. People make a lot of choices in their day to day lives and those choices make up the type of person that they are and how the world sees them. The character that said this is definitely one that knows a lot about making choices and changing the way that people in the world see them. This character is one who has had a pretty tough life and has gone through some major changes since their earlier days. So, if anyone is going to know about defining themselves through their actions, it's this character.
"Only one of us was around when dance was invented."
Very funny! This quote is from a character who was referencing the fact that only one person in the conversation they were having is a vampire, meaning that one of them has been alive for quite some time. Maybe not since before dance was invented, but some of the vampires on The Vampire Diaries are pretty old, so you never know! Even though The Vampire Diaries is a mostly serious series, there are still a lot of hilarious quotes like this one that break up some of the suspenseful supernatural happenings that go on in Mystic Falls and give us a good laugh.
"I wake up everyday and I feel okay. But there's something missing, like a hole. Some people, they fit in life or whatever. I don't."
This quote is seriously a sad one and totally bums us out. This quote came from a character that definitely doesn't have it easy during the series and has several things happen to them that we would never want to happen to us. Luckily, they have a lot of people around them that are really great friends and family members who are definitely there for them to help them through those tough times, in whatever way they can. Still, there are just some things that a person has to work through on their own, which is definitely something this character learns.
"Know what? I don't want her to be happy."
Ouch! That's just harsh. It's definitely not easy moving on from someone, whether they're a former friend or an ex that you were in a relationship with and some people take moving on really hard. This character is definitely an example of someone who took moving on from another character way harder than some other people would have. This quote came when they were talking about another character and said they didn't want her to be happy or moving on easily because they weren't. Because of it, they wanted her to feel the same way as they did about the situation.
"It's okay. We met and we talked and it was epic, but then the sun came up and reality set in."
This feeling is definitely one that's easy for us to relate to, even though we don't live in Mystic Falls with all the vampires and witches and werewolves. This quote came from a character who spent all night talking to another character who they had just met and things were great but unfortunately, as the night went on and the sun came up, they realized that some of the circumstances in their lives meant that it just couldn't be that simple and the two of them ended up having to part ways. How sad is that? Who remembers who said this?
"I have no idea what I’m doing and all I want to do is just sit on our kitchen counter."
It's not easy to miss someone. That's something that this character is definitely aware of! This quote came from a character who was talking about missing another character in the series. In this quote, they were talking about how their life was just not going great and they wanted nothing more than to talk to this person again, in their kitchen, and hang out with them. There are some people who definitely make any situation that you might be going through so much easier and it seems like everything is better when they're around. Being without them seems to make things harder.
"New rule: Live your life, heal, and in the meantime, we're friends."
Talk about a supportive friend! This quote came from someone who was talking to their friend who was going through a tough time. In the town of Mystic Falls, it's definitely important to have good friends who have your back because there's just so much drama going on that it can be easy to get stressed or get too focused on all of that and not focus on taking care of yourself and being happy. This quote comes from a character who was talking to another character about how they need to move on from some things that have happened to them, but they'll still be friends.
"And something tells me that my witch is better than your witch."
In The Vampire Diaries, there are a lot of different types of supernatural creatures. The characters all really need to work together in order to solve problems in Mystic Falls and part of that working together involves working with these supernatural creatures to use their strengths in order to help the town. This quote came from a character who was definitely not looking to help Elena out with her problems! Although Elena totally always had Bonnie and her magical powers on her side, this character made it super obvious with his quote that they weren't unprepared in the magic department either.
"Honestly, I’m not gonna be one of those pathetic girls whose world stops spinning because of some guy."
Good idea! Even though being in a relationship is definitely great and can make a person really happy, we have to admit that it's not a great idea to make another person the focus of your entire life. It's always important to make sure that you have a healthy balance between your relationship and your own personal interests. Spending a little time apart and not totally throwing away all the things that you enjoyed doing prior to entering a relationship is definitely something important to remember. The character who said this was totally on the right track! Who knows who said this?
"When it’s real, can’t walk away."
This is definitely some good advice! This quote came from a character who has a lot of experience in the relationship department and was happy to share their expertise with a friend in need. This quote is referring to the fact that a person knows their feelings for someone else are genuine when they realize how hard it is for them to walk away from the person. When a person gets feelings for someone, they definitely start thinking about that person a lot and this character is telling one of their close friends that not being able to get those thoughts out of their head is a good sign!
"Trust is earned - I can’t just magically hand it over."
This is definitely something to remember. Even though we're not going through a lot of the things that the people living in Mystic Falls are with all the supernatural issues that they face, there are still quite a few quotes in the series that are easy to relate to for us still! This quote came from one of the central characters in the series and was about the fact that a person can't just decide to trust someone, they have to actually have a reason to trust them before they're able to. This is something that's important, even if you're not dealing with vampires!
"Forgive me, I always notice a woman's neck. I'm a neck person!"
Very funny! This quote is clearly one that came from a vampire and is a reference to the fact that vampires traditionally bite the necks of the humans that they're feeding on in many vampire movies and TV shows. Although The Vampire Diaries definitely has their own version of vampire and werewolf myths that don't necessarily match up to a lot of other vampire myths in movies and TV shows, there are little things like this that are clearly referencing those other vampire stories and we totally love it. This vampire's reference to noticing necks is definitely one that did not go unnoticed.
"Today I convinced myself it's okay to give up. Don't take risks. Stick with the status quo, no drama."
Even though this sounds like the fastest route to a totally boring life, we can't deny that being a little boring is probably what this character was looking for, at least for a little while. With all those vampires, werewolves, and witches running around the streets of Mystic Falls, we can't deny that having your life take a turn for the more boring side every now and then would be more than welcome to us! This quote comes from a character who is totally over all the supernatural things going on and has decided to just relax and not worry about things for a while.
"The strange thing is losing those people is what brought us together. It’s how we found each other. It’s what made us family."
This quote is totally heartwarming. And it's true! Even though there are characters in the series that are related to each other, most of the characters in this show are actually just friends or in relationships together and not actually family members. Still, these characters are so close and go through so much together as the series goes on that they definitely grow to be family members in a way, even if they're still not technically a "real" family. Some people become such close friends that it feels like they're family and the character who said this definitely knows that!
"Don't look for any redeeming qualities. I don't have any."
Whoa! While characters like Damon Salvatore are always talking about how all of their qualities are incredible and how people are just drawn to them because of how amazing they are, there are also characters like this one that openly admit that they're not exactly great. Well, at least they're honest, right? We can't fault them for that. Anyone familiar with The Vampire Diaries will know that this character was definitely not lying when they said that they don't have many redeeming qualities. They're definitely a villain that we loved to see cause trouble throughout the series until they were gone.
"Stefan smiles. Alert the media!"
That is so unnecessary! Stefan may not be the jokester that his brother is, but that doesn't mean that he never smiles or has any fun! Of the two Salvatore brothers, Stefan is definitely the more serious one and he's definitely not as quick as his older brother to hide his feelings with a sarcastic remark. Because of the fact that he's often more open with his feelings and a little bit less sarcastic, he can be at the receiving end of many jokes about his attitude from the other characters. Still, we love both the brothers for different reasons.
"So, at the risk of sounding like, uh... Like a jealous boyfriend..."
This quote is followed up by a character reassuring them that there's no need to worry about risking sounding like a jealous boyfriend because they definitely sound like one. That's pretty harsh! This quote came from way back in the first season when the citizens of Mystic Falls were celebrating Founder's Day. At the Founder's Day celebration, a character came to dance with this character's girlfriend and, naturally, that made this character a little bit jealous, which they tried to express. This episode was definitely an unforgettable one for a lot of reasons, as any fan of The Vampire Diaries will remember!
