The Netflix Generation will never know how it felt to have to wait for new episodes of their favorite show. The kids of the '80s and '90s will know what we mean here. Back in the day, each episode would air, sometimes just once a week, so if it ended with a cliffhanger there would be a week-long wait to find out what was going to happen next. And once a show had started there was no way to pause it, if there was something else happening at that time the show would need to be taped on a VHS tape and that was a mission all on its own. Snacks needed to be ready before the show started and if anyone wanted to go to the toilet they had to wait for an ad break, and then hurry back if they didn't want to miss out.
But these days, well, waiting is a thing of the past. Today if we want to watch a show, we are free to watch as many episodes as we want. whenever we want, and pause at any time. The only problem we face is an abundance of choice - there are just so many amazing series to choose from!
Scorpion:
In each episode of Scorpion, a group of misfit geniuses is tasked with solving problems for Homeland Security and they are often problems that no-one else could possibly solve. This show first aired in 2014 and continued for 4 seasons before being canceled. Who has seen this drama show before?
Gossip Girl:
This hit teen drama series was actually based on a book series written by Cecily von Ziegesar. The story, which was told over six seasons, followed the lives of a group of privileged teens living on the Upper East Side of New York and a ruthless blogger who seems to know their every move.
NCIS:
In this show, a group of Naval investigation officers, led by Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) investigate and solve a wide variety of different crimes. According to Wikipedia, NCIS is the seventh-longest-running scripted TV series in the US, now in its 16th season. Who has seen this show?
Futurama:
This animated show was created by Matt Groening, the same man responsible for shows like The Simpsons, and most recently, Disenchantment. In Futurama, Fry, a pizza delivery boy, falls into a cryogenic chamber on New Years Eve 1999 and wakes up in the year 3000. Who has seen this show before?
The Mentalist:
In The Mentalist a former psychic reader Patrick Jane (played by Simon Baker) assists the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), by using his highly developed observational skills to help them solve difficult cases. This show, (which also starred Robin Tunney and Tim Kang) aired for seven seasons, from 2008 until 2015.
House:
In House MD, Hugh Laurie plays the part of Dr. Gregory House, a brilliant, albeit abrasive and sometimes even anti-social, diagnostician. Together with his team he often uses unconventional methods to help him diagnose patients with unusual medical problems. With loads of drama and loads of laughs, this medical series is definitely binge-worthy!
Family Guy:
Family Guy is an animated comedy show created by Seth MacFarlane, who also voices a number of the characters. The storyline follows the lives of the Griffin Family; husband Peter, his wife Lois, their three children Meg, Chris and Stewie, and their dog Brian. It is the sixth-longest-running scripted TV series in the US according to Wikipedia.
The Vampire Diaries:
In The Vampire Diaries, two centuries-old vampire brothers wage war with each other over the souls of the people who live in their small town. The show, which first aired in 2009, is based on a series of books written by New York Times Bestselling Author L.J. Smith. Who has seen this show?
Pretty Little Liars:
In Pretty Little Liars, a small group of friends struggles to return to normal life after their leader suddenly disappears. One year later their start receiving mysterious messages from a figure only identified as "A" and who seems to know all their deepest secrets. Hands up those who have watched this show!
Game of Thrones:
Game of Thrones, which is based on George R.R. Martin's book series `A Song of Ice and Fire', tells the intricate story of two families, both set on ruling the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros by taking the Iron Throne. For those who love stories with kings, queens, love, betrayal, and intrigue this is a must see!
Westworld:
Imagine a theme park where any dream, any fantasy, can become a reality. Well, that's Westworld! In this show, there's a place where people can visit and interact with robots that look and behave just like human beings. This show is based on a movie by the same name which was made in 1973.
True Blood:
This is a fantasy horror series which stars, among others, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Sam Trammell. In the show, vampires have started to reveal their true identities to humans and are struggling for equal rights in this new world. The show aired for seven seasons from 2008 until 2014.
CSI Las Vegas:
Any crime, no matter how well-planned, will always leave clues behind. In CSI Las Vegas a group of forensic investigators works with the police to help them solve crimes and catch the bad guys. This crime drama show aired for 15 seasons from 2000 until 2015. Who has seen CSI Las Vegas?
New Girl:
After a difficult breakup Jess (played by Zooey Deschanel), a lighthearted and lively young teacher decides to move in with three single guys (also in their early thirties) whose lives have also not turned out as they thought they would. The show aired for seven seasons from 2011 and ended in 2018.
Bojack Horseman:
Although it's a cartoon series with a humanoid horse as the main character, this show is definitely not intended for younger viewers! It follows the life of Bojack Horseman, an actor who starred in a hit sitcom during the '90s before sinking into obscurity, depression and self-loathing. Who has seen this one?
The Simpsons:
Since The Simpsons first aired in 1989 there have been over 647 episodes making it the longest-running US sitcom of all time. The characters are so popular that they were even given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000, according to the shows Wikipedia page. Seen it or not?
Bob's Burgers:
This animated show follows the life of Bob, the owner of Bob's Burgers, and his family, who work alongside him in his struggling restaurant. Bob is a hard worker but often struggles to keep his business afloat, competing with his nemesis Jimmy Pesto whose restaurant is always packed. Who has watched this funny show?
Modern Family:
This mockumentary style sitcom follows the life of the Pritchett family and stars Ed O'Neill and Sofía Vergara. The show first aired in 2009 and has been hugely successful winning a total of 22 Emmy awards from 75 nominations over the past decade, according to Wikipedia. Who has seen this show?
House of Cards:
Everyone enjoys a good thriller and the TV show House of Cards delivers just that with plenty of intrigue and suspense. Starring among others Kevin Spacey, Kate Mara, and Robin Wright, this series is currently aired its 6th and final season. Hands up if those who have watched House of Cards:
Stranger Things:
The science fiction horror series Stranger Things tells the story of a town plagued by unusual occurrences including the disappearance of a young boy and a girl with supernatural abilities who appears from nowhere. There are currently two seasons of the show and a third is due for release next year.
The Big Bang Theory:
The five main characters in the comedy sitcom The Big Bang Theory are: Penny, a waitress/aspiring actress, Leonard Hofstadter, and Sheldon Cooper; two geeky physicists, Howard Wolowitz, an aerospace engineer and Raj Koothrappali, an astrophysicist. Feeling strapped for cash? Don't worry, so are the girls from this hilarious show! The show follows the lives of two friends and flatmates Max Black and Caroline Channing who struggle to make ends meet while trying to start up their own cupcake business. Who has watched this one before?
Orange Is the New Black:
In Orange is the New Black, Piper Chapman (played by Taylor Schilling) is sentenced to a spend time in a correctional facility when she pleads guilty to an offense which happened almost a decade earlier. The show is based on a memoir by Piper Kerman's called Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison, according to IMDb.
Breaking Bad:
When someone learns that they have a terminal disease and a short time left to live it can make them do some pretty crazy things. For the lead character in this hit show, Walter White, that meant turning away from the life of a law-abiding teacher and going into illegal practices...
Mr. Robot:
In the thriller drama series Mr. Robot Rami Malek plays Elliot Alderson, a cybersecurity engineer, and hacker who also has social anxiety disorder and clinical depression. According to Wikipedia, the show has won a number of awards including the Golden Globe for Best Television Drama Series. Who has seen this show?
Downton Abbey:
For anyone who has ever wondered what life was like 100 years ago, especially for someone living in England, this show is simply a must-see. The show follows the lives of an aristocratic family and their servants who live in the country estate of Downton Abbey. Seen this one?
The Crown:
The Crown is a historical drama series which tells the story of a modern day queen and her reign. Claire Foy plays the lead role and has won various accolades for her portrayal including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Outlander:
In this show a World War II nurse (played by Caitriona Balfe) finds herself transported back to 1743 where she meets a Scottish warrior named Jamie Fraser, who is strongly involved with the Jacobite Risings. This show is a mix of sci-fi, history, drama, and romance - so there is something for everyone!
30 Rock:
30 Rock is a satirical comedy show which aired for seven seasons from 2006 until 2013. The show featured an ensemble cast which included Tina Fey (who is also the creator), Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, and Katrina Bowden. 30 Rock was named the 21st best-written television series of all time by the Writers Guild of America West in 2013, according to Wikipedia.
Rick and Morty:
This animated comedy show follows the adventures of eccentric inventor Rick and his fumbling, but loyal grandson Morty. The good news for fans of this show is that according to Wikipedia the show has been renewed for a further 70 episodes so there is still lots of Rick and Morty to look forward to!
King of the Hill:
This animated show was created by Mike Judge, the same responsible for Beavis and Butthead. King of the Hill follows the life of a middle-class family from the USA. Hank Hill, the head of the family, is also voiced by Mike Judge. Time Inc named the show as one of the top 100 greatest television shows of all time in 2007.
Supernatural:
For anyone who has a supernatural problem that they don't know how to deal with, these are the boys they need! The Winchester brothers Sam (played by Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are well-skilled at fighting off all kinds of spirits and ghosts in this hit TV show, which has been running since 2005.
Grey's Anatomy:
This medical drama focuses on the lives and relationships of a group of doctors at the Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. The show, which has been running since 2005, stars among others, Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, and T. R. Knight. Who will admit to binging on this one?
F Is for Family:
This animated cartoon series is set in the 1970s and follows the lives of an average middle-class family living in the USA. There's good news for anyone who enjoyed the first two seasons of this show. A third season is currently being released so we do get to find out what happens next!

Under the Dome:
Under the Dome is a TV series based on Stephen King's 2009 novel of the same name. In the show, the community of Chester's Mill is stunned when a large, transparent dome suddenly appears around their town and cuts them off from the outside world. It aired for three seasons, ending in 2015.

13 Reasons Why:
This teen drama is based on a novel by Jay Asher published in 2007 called Thirteen Reasons Why. It follows the life of a high school student who finds a box of cassette tapes left behind by his friend Hannah after she passes away under tragic circumstances. Who has seen this one?
Hawaii Five-0:
In this show, which is based on the original series which aired from 1968 until 1980, a group of specialist task force members helps to solve major crimes in Hawaii. The show stars among others, Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park, and is currently airing its ninth season.
The Haunting of Hill House:
We wouldn't recommend this one late at night, especially alone! This show revolves around a haunted house called Hill House and depicts events from two different timelines. It features an ensemble cast which includes Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel and Victoria Pedretti. Has anyone been brave enough to watch this one yet?
