Video games have been around a really long time. For decades, there have been different forms of electronic games that come in a ton of different forms and can either be played on a home or handheld console, on a computer, or even at an arcade. Video games really started to rise to popularity in the 1980s with games like Pac-Man, Mario Bros., Tetris, and Frogger being released on consoles like Famicom (in Japan) and the NES or Atari (for the rest of the world). After the 1980s, video games have really been steadily growing and have been advancing more and more.
From simple games like Pong and Tetris to more advanced games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Apex Legends, there's a huge selection of video games available on the market today. New video games are announced and released for different consoles all the time, meaning that people who enjoy video games basically always have a new game to look forward to getting their hands on. Buying a new game that someone has been looking forward to and finally getting to experience the story is always a fun time!

Marvel's Spider-Man
How cool would it be to get to be a superhero? Movies like The Avengers really show off how awesome it is to battle against villains and try to save the world, all while having a super amazing costume, superhero alter ego, and all kinds of superhero friends. Unfortunately for all of us that share this dream, being a superhero isn't actually something that we can achieve. Bummer, right? But thanks to games like Marvel's Spider-Man, released in 2018 on the PlayStation 4, we can pretend we are for a while!
Minecraft
Minecraft is an open-world game that was released in 2011 and has been put on several different platforms for players to choose from. There are multiple game modes within Minecraft that involve either simply building without any dangers or enemies to battle or turning on survival mode which involves a health bar and has enemies that will come out during the night or when the player goes underground. There are also a lot of mods that change the gameplay and aesthetics of Minecraft.
Overwatch
Playing video games alone can be a lot of fun, but there are a ton of games that have a multiplayer format, making them great to play with friends from around the world and even random strangers that the game pairs you up with. Overwatch is one of these games that can be played with a ton of other people. Players choose a character from a roster of over 30 "Heroes" and play against each other in teams of two to reach a certain goal.
Guitar Hero
Guitar Hero is a series of games that had its first release back in 2005 and the latest game in the franchise released in 2015. These games have been released on just about every gaming platform available from home consoles to handheld consoles and even mobile devices. The Guitar Hero games allow the player to live out their dreams of being a rockstar with tons of adoring fans as they use the unique controls to play along to hit songs.
Tetris 99
Tetris 99 is a free game that was released for subscribers of Nintendo's online service for the Nintendo Switch console. It's a version of Tetris, a game that has a ton of different variations on different consoles and mobile phones and in arcades, with a really special and modernized twist. Instead of just playing a regular game of Tetris, Tetris 99 has 99 players all playing at once and battling against each other. Players can send rows to other players in order to raise up their blocks and get them out.
Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure game that was developed by Rockstar Games and released in 2013. The game is available on several different platforms including PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. The game has a story mode that can be played and has the player controlling three different playable characters through the fictional city of Los Santos. The game also has an open-world online mode where the player can create a character and play without goals.
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey is a game that was released in 2017 on the Nintendo Switch and is part of the long-running Mario franchise of games that Nintendo has been publishing since way back in 1985 when Super Mario Bros. was released. Super Mario Odyssey is a platform-style game like many of the other games in the Mario franchise. The player controls Mario and takes him through several different worlds to collect the Power Moons in the game and eventually save Princess Peach.
Fortnite
Fortnite's most popular variant, Fortnite Battle Royale, is an online game that was released in 2017 and has a survival or battle royale-type format that has players all playing against each other with the goal of being the final player left standing at the end of the match. Fortnite is a hugely popular game that has a ton of players on several different platforms. Up to 100 players are placed into a game where they battle against each other to be the last player left alive.
Detroit: Become Human
Detroit: Become Human is a game that was released in 2018 and is on the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. This adventure game's plot revolves around three characters that aren't humans but are instead incredibly lifelike androids named Kara, Connor, and Markus. Kara escaped the owner she had and is learning about her life as a sentient android, Connor works to try to find and return escaped androids, and Markus helps to free other androids from being servants to humans.
Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5 is a video game that was released in 2018 and is the fifth main game in the Far Cry series of games. Far Cry 5 is set in the fictional location of Hope County, Montana. Hope County is a rural area in the large state that is having some trouble with some of the residents. After a man named Joseph Seed and his family moved in and started a large religious group, the residents of Hope County have called in reinforcements to get them to leave.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The first game in The Legend of Zelda series was released in 1986 on the NES and Famicom consoles. Since then, several games have been released in The Legend of Zelda series, most of which focus on Link, a Hylian, working to save the kingdom of Hyrule and Hyrule's Princess Zelda from the main villain in the franchise, Ganon. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link awakens after 100 years to learn that Calamity Ganon has taken over Hyrule and he must help Zelda defeat him.
BioShock Infinite
BioShock Infinite is a game that was released in 2013 on several different platforms and is the third game in the BioShock series but isn't necessarily a direct sequel to the previous games as far as the storyline in the game goes. This game is set in the early 20th century and the player controls the main character in the game, a man named Booker DeWitt who is a former employee of the Pinkerton agency. He travels to Columbia to save someone who was taken there.
Persona 5
Persona 5 is a role-playing style game that was released in 2016 in Japan and in the rest of the world in 2017 on PlayStation game consoles. The game is the sixth game in the Persona series and takes place in Tokyo in the modern day. The main character in this game is Joker and the game begins after he's forced to begin attending Shujin Academy. There, he is one of the students that finds out he has special powers.
Portal 2
Portal 2 is a video game that was released in 2011 on various different platforms including Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Portal 2 is a sequel to 2007's Portal and has a pretty similar gameplay style to the first game in the series. Like Portal, Portal 2 is a puzzle game in which the player has to use a device known as a 'portal gun' in order to create portals on flat surfaces that they can travel through and get through the puzzle rooms.
Days Gone
Days Gone is an action-adventure survival game that was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2019. Days Gone is set in a large, open-world setting with a post-apocalyptic backdrop to the game. The player controls the main character, a member of a biker gang who goes by the name of Deacon, who spends a lot of time on the road, traveling the country. The world has been taken over by zombie-like creatures known as Freakers and the game has a day-night cycle that the player has to be mindful of.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn is a game that was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2017. The game follows the main character, a hunter named Aloy who is living in a post-apocalyptic world that is overrun by large robotic creatures known simply as "machines." Humans and "machines" are mostly peaceful with one another but humans hunt these creatures in order to take the robotic parts from them in order to repair and enhance their belongings. Aloy uses these machine parts to enhance her hunting skills.
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is a farming simulation and role-playing game that was released in 2016. The game is available on several different platforms including Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android. The player creates a character at the start of the game who is trying to get away from their busy life in the city and ends up moving to a farm they inherited from their grandfather. There, they manage their farm and interact with the non-playable characters living in the nearby town.
Until Dawn
Until Dawn is a story-based survival game that was released in 2015 on the PlayStation 4. Until Dawn is set in a town in the western part of Canada and follows a group of friends who have come together to stay in a remote cabin a year after the disappearance of two of their friends. The get together was organized by the friends' brother and seems like it's going to be a great time for all the friends. Unfortunately, an uninvited guest makes things go wrong.
The Last of Us
The Last of Us is a game that was originally released in 2013 on the PlayStation 3. The game is set twenty years after the outbreak of a mysterious virus takes over the country and, through a sad misunderstanding, takes the life of the main character's daughter. Joel, the main character, is tasked with escorting a teenager who seems immune to the zombie virus across the country in exchange for a large amount of money. The trip is dangerous but Joel accepts.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is an action-adventure game that was released in 2016 for the PlayStation 4. This game is the fourth game in the main series of Uncharted games. Like the other main games in the Uncharted series, this game has the player control the main character, Nathan Drake. Nathan is a former treasure hunter who had been retired but was convinced by his brother, Sam, to go on an adventure and try to find a lost treasure.
Splatoon 2
Splatoon 2 is a TPS game that was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2017 and is a sequel to the game Splatoon. In this game, the player controls an anthropomorphic squid or octopus, known in the game as either an Inkling or an Octoling. These Inklings and Octolings are placed on a map and have the goal of covering the map in a specific color of ink or achieving other goals in order to win the match. The game brought back characters from the first game like Marie and Callie.
The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 is an action roleplaying game that was released in 2015 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Witcher 3 is a sequel to a previous game and takes place in an open-world setting. The game is set in a fantasy world and the player controls a character named Geralt of Rivia, also known as the Witcher. Geralt is a monster hunter who has grown up being trained to be a monster hunter with a wide array of skills associated with this.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action role-playing game that was released on the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox 360 in 2011 and on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016 and was ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2017. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the fifth game in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, released in 2006. The player creates a character and then can explore the open-world setting and complete missions for non-playable characters.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a game that was released in 2018 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the 12th main game in the long-running Tomb Raider series and like the other games in this series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider features Lara Croft as the main character that the player controls. In the game, Lara Croft travels to Mexico and, inside a temple there, she finds references to a mysterious hidden city.
Kingdom Hearts 3
Kingdom Hearts 3 is an action role-playing game that was released in 2019 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This game is the 12th game in the Kingdom Hearts series and is the sequel to Kingdom Hearts II, set right after the events of the game Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. The player controls Sora, the main character from the Kingdom Hearts series, who is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, King Mickey, and Riku as they try to save their world.
Bayonetta 2
Bayonetta 2 is an action-adventure game that was released in 2014 on the Wii U and then ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2018. This game is a sequel to the 2009 game Bayonetta and features the same protagonist as the first game in the series. Much of the gameplay in this action-packed game takes place on a sacred mountain called Fimbulventr, which is located close to the fictional town of Noatun. The player controls Bayonetta as she battles against various enemies.

Silent Hill is a spooky survival game that was released in 1999 on the original PlayStation and is the very first game in the Silent Hill series. In the game, the player controls the main character, Harry Mason, as he travels to a mysterious town called Silent Hill. The game reveals that Harry traveled to Silent Hill in order to try to find his adopted daughter who went missing in the town. There, he discovers a mysterious group that inhabits the town.
No Man's Sky
No Man's Sky is a video game that was released in 2016 on the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows and then in 2018 on the Xbox One. The game has a huge open-world environment, giving the player the option to explore freely and experience the world and everything in it. The game takes place after the player's character wakes up on a strange planet far, far away. There, they speak to an alien who lives on the planet who wants to meet them.

Fallout 4 is a post-apocalyptic adventure role-playing game hat was released in 2015 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Fallout 4 is the fifth main game in the Fallout series of video games. This game is set several years after the previous game in the series, Fallout 3, and is set in an open-world area in what was once the city of Boston. The player controls a character known as Sole Survivor who leaves a fallout shelter in order to find their missing child.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Animal Crossing: New Leaf is a video game that was released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013 and is one of the games in the Animal Crossing series of games, the first of which was released in Japan in 2001. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the player controls a character that they create who recently moved into a new town full of anthropomorphic animals. After arriving, they're informed that they're the new mayor of this town and are in charge of upgrading the town.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an enhanced port of Mario Kart 8, a game that was originally released in 2014. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a version that was released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and has additional content and additions to the gameplay added for this version. The game allows a player to choose from a roster of different Nintendo characters like Bowser, Rosalina, Isabelle, Donkey Kong, and Fox McCloud and use them to race along a track with friends or against computer-controlled characters.

This character's name s Alan Wake and he's known in the world of the video game for being a best-selling author who has written some popular spooky novels. Hollow Knight is a game that was released in 2017 on Microsoft Windows and macOS and then on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2018. This game is an action-adventure game that many people classify with the genre of Metroidvania, a word that came from combining the styles of Metroid and Castlevania games. The game follows a knight who is trying to uncover the ancient secrets in the fictional insect kingdom known as Hallownest. This game started on Kickstarter in 2014.
The Sims 4
The Sims 4 is a life simulation game that was released in 2014 and is the fourth main game in The Sims series. Since the game's release, several expansion packs, game packs, and stuff packs have been released for the game to add extra items and gameplay features that change the way the player can play the game. The Sims 4 involves creating a person or family in the game and then controlling their life and interactions with other characters in the game.
Celeste
Celeste is a platforming game that was released in 2018 on a huge variety of different platforms including Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and macOS. This platforming game has the player controlling a girl named Madeline who was warned by a character named Granny to stay away from Celeste Mountain. Despite this warning from Granny, the game follows as Madeline sets out to climb Celeste Mountain and comes face to face with all the strange obstacles in her way.

Although a vehicular soccer game may sound silly, this game is pretty popular, partially due to the fact that it can be played cross-platform on any of the consoles and platforms that it's available on, including Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game was released in 2015 with the other platform versions being released in the years after.

What Remains of Edith Finch is an adventure game that was released in 2017 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. What Remains of Edith Finch is a game that focuses on the Finch family. The Finch family seems to have a strange curse of some sort on them and this curse is believed to have taken the lives of almost all of the members of their family. Edith is the last Finch family member alive and the game follows her through the memories of her family's history.
L.A. Noire
L.A. Noire is a game that was released in 2011 and has been released on multiple platforms including PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is set in Los Angeles, California back in the late 1940s and is a throwback to the mysterious detective films that were popular during this era. The game has the player take on the role of a detective named Cole who works to solve cases throughout the city.
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy is a game that was released for the Nintendo Wii in 2007. The game is the third game in the Super Mario series that was released in 3D and, like many of the other games in this franchise, has the player controlling Mario as he sets out on an adventure to save Princess Peach from Bowser, the villain of the Super Mario series. Each level in this game is a different galaxy that Mario travels through in order to collect Power Stars.
Dark Souls
Dark Souls is an action role-playing game that was released in 2011 for several different platforms including PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This game is the sequel to a 2009 game and is the second in the Souls series. Dark Souls takes place in an open-world environment and much of the storyline of the game is given to the player through their conversations with non-playable characters in the games and learning about the lore of the fictional world.
Luigi's Mansion
Luigi's Mansion is a game that was released in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube and was then ported to the Nintendo 3DS in 2018. The game features Luigi from the Mario games as the main character. The player controls Luigi as he explores the different rooms in a haunted mansion and comes face to face with many ghosts. Luigi uses a flashlight and a specially modified vacuum cleaner in order to help him rid the mansion of the ghosts living there.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Remastering and re-releasing classic games that came out and were loved years ago is definitely something that many game developers do. That was the case when Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was released in 2017 on the PlayStation 4 and then in 2018 on the Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox One. The set of games is a remastered version of the first three games in the Crash Bandicoot series: Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped. These games were released in the 1990s.

Undertale is a role-playing game that was initially released in 2015 for Microsoft Windows and OS X and was then ported to several other platforms including PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch. In the game, the player controls the main character, a child who has gone to the Underground, a part of the world where monsters were sent after a battle between humans and monsters occurred. Tom Clancy's The Division 2 was released on multiple different platforms including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This game is set in a near-future after a disease has taken out the majority of the population in the country. In the game, the player controls a special agent who is trying to help rebuild the city.
Nintendo Labo
Nintendo Labo is technically not actually a video game but rather a gaming experience. Nintendo Labo made its debut in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch and is a system that involves putting together the kit that the player buys in order to build one of many different things including a piano, a motorcycle, or a fishing rod, among other options. The Toy-Con that is then built interacts with the Nintendo Switch itself and the Joy-Cons in order to do different things.
