Play NHL GM Mode And We'll Tell You Which Team Would Hire You

Have you played NHL '18 yet? It's a pretty awesome game. And now, with all of the story modes that exist in other sports games like NBA and MLB, NHL '18 has the awesome GM mode where you get to run the game as the General Manager of a team. You can create your own team and put it up against all the other teams of the NHL, or you can simply select one of the pre-existing teams.

No matter how you start out, your mission is pretty clear. You need to make enough money to keep your business afloat, but you also need to keep your team out there winning games. You can upgrade your arena, you can alter prices on concession stands, you can go through the NHL draft...you can even relocate or rebuild arenas.

It's a pretty intense mode considering that you're not actually playing any sort of hockey action. It's definitely a mode that's more for the sort of person who would rather sit back and watch it all happen than someone who wants to get on the ice. Are you having trouble sorting out what team you should choose to GM for? Well, take this quiz and see which NHL team would be interested in hiring you on!

Question 1

Would you sign or release Tarasenko?

Vladimir Tarasenko is a Russian player who was born in 1991 and currently plays for the St. Louis Blues. Playing for his homeland, Tarasenko made his mark early on. He won a silver medal with Russia at the 2009 World Under-18 Championship, scoring eight goals in nine games and making the tournament all-star team.

During his first three years with the Stars, Seguin teamed with left wing Jamie Benn to create one of the NHL's most successful scoring duos, with Seguin scoring 107 goals and 234 points in 223 games. The Boston Bruins thought Seguin would become an elite player, but they never got to enjoy that part of his career.

Question 4

Would you sign or release Steven Stamkos?

Stamkos was born in 1990 in Markham, Ontario which is part of the Greater Toronto Area. The Leafs never got to enjoy his skills though. Stamkos has emerged as one of the top goal-scorers of his generation since the Lightning selected him at No. 1 in the 2008 NHL Draft. A two-time Richard Trophy winner as the NHL's leading goal-scorer, Stamkos has reached the 50-goal mark twice and has scored 40 or more goals four times. That mark might be higher if not for a broken leg that limited him to 37 games during the 2013-14 season, when he scored 25 goals...which is still not a bad number.

Question 5

Would you sign or release Sidney Crosby?

Born in 1987 in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia it's pretty clear how Canadian Crosby is, even if he doesn't play for a Canadian team. In 2009, when Barack Obama welcomed the Pittsburgh Penguins to the White House, he made it a point to congratulate the youngest captain ever to win the Cup, then 21-year-old Sidney Crosby. Toward the end of the ceremony, Obama got a big laugh when he said of Crosby, "Sidney must be really fast because there's some big hockey players -- and he's not one of them."

Question 6

Would you sign or release Shea Weber?

Born in Sicamous, British Columbia in 1985, Shea Weber managed to come back to Canada in his prime. It was a crazy trade. One that threatened to break the internet, or at least the portion of it addicted to hockey. In 2016, the Montreal Canadiens acquired Weber from the Nashville Predators in exchange for fellow defenseman P.K. Subban. Rarely do two such dominating players, each in the prime of his career, swap jerseys.

Question 7

Would you keep or trade Bobrovsky?

Born in Novokuznetsk, Russia in 1988, Bobrovsky managed to find his way to the Columbus Blue Jackets. They did pretty damn well last year...but it remains to be seen whether or not they'll have such a good showing this season. Bobrovsky had Swedish artist David Gunnarsson paint a red and white brick wall on his goalie mask because, like the wall, Bobrovsky considers himself to be a virtually impenetrable force in front of his own net...not this season.

Question 8

Would you keep or trade Ryan Suter?

Born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1985, Ryan Suter finds himself in the ranks of the Minnesota Wild. In the NHL's modern history, few players have deserved the title of workhorse defenseman more than Suter. A first-team NHL All-Star and Norris Trophy runner-up with the Minnesota Wild in 2012-13, Suter has often ranked among the league leaders in ice time. Now he just has to worry about getting his team to the top of the standings to make the playoffs.

They even have a 4,000 square foot Penguins team store plus four smaller stores throughout the building.

Question 11

Would you sign or release Patrick Kane?

Born in Buffalo, New York in 1988, Patrick Kane now plays for the Chicago Blackhawks. On June 9th, 2010 Kane scored at 4:06 of overtime to beat the host Philadelphia Flyers, 4-3, in Game 6 of the Final and clinch the Stanley Cup for Chicago. It ended a 49-year wait for the Blackhawks. Almost 50 years without a cup. Almost up there with the Maple Leafs. Maybe Toronto should hire on this hardy player to help them get those final goals and bring them to their next cup.

Question 12

Would you keep or trade P.K. Subban?

Born in Toronto, Ontario in 1989, P.K. Subban never played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Before turning pro, Subban played four seasons for Belleville in the Ontario Hockey League. He played in the OHL All-Star Game in 2007-08 and led all defensemen in playoff points that season. He also helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2008 World Junior Championship.

Question 14

Would you sign or release Matt Murray?

Born in 1994 in Thunder Bay, Ontario the very young Matt Murray is currently a goalie for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Murray enjoyed a magical ride under the brightest of spotlights at the beginning of his career. Having played just 13 NHL regular-season games, the 6-foot-4, 178-pound goaltender stepped into the starter's role for the injured Marc-Andre Fleury and helped lead the Penguins to the Stanley Cup in 2016. That's a pretty wicked start to a career in the NHL. I'm guessing the Penguins will keep him for some time.

Born in Montreal, Quebec in 1987 Kris Letang ended up playing defense for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Letang was a third-round pick of the Penguins in the 2005 NHL Draft out of Val-d'Or in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 2007, the Montreal native won three awards in the QMJHL: the Emile Bouchard Trophy as the top defenseman, the Kevin Lowe Trophy as the best defensive defenseman and the Paul Dumont Trophy as the best personality. that's some high praise right there. A trophy even for personality!

He earned a gold medal with Canada at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Olympics. In 2010, he became the second-youngest player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. He had 29 points in 22 games. In 2013, he was awarded the Selke Trophy, given to the NHL's best defensive forward.

Question 18

Would you keep or trade John Tavares?

Born in 1990 in Mississauga, Ontario John Tavares wound up as captain of the New York Islanders. Tavares has long been considered an exceptional talent, and he has delivered on the hype and become one of the top stars in the game for the New York Islanders, who selected him in the 2009 NHL Draft. Given his route to the NHL, his success was expected. At 14 he was granted exceptional player status by the Ontario Hockey League, allowing the Toronto-area native to be eligible for the OHL Draft. He was selected with the No. 1 by Oshawa in 2005.

Though he has established himself in recent years as one of the League's most potent scorers and recognizable figures, he has spent a lot of his hockey career being overlooked. He was ignored by major junior teams as a 16- and 17-year-old growing up in Victoria, British Columbia; he had to wait until the fifth round before the Dallas Stars called his name during the 2007 NHL Draft, and he was left off the list of invitees to Team Canada's orientation camp for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

After scoring against Martin Brodeur in his first game, Malkin would set a modern-day record with goals in the first six games to start his career; the only other player to accomplish the feat was Joe Malone of the Montreal Canadiens in 1917-18, the League's very first season.

Question 24

Would you sign or release Erik Karlsson?

Born in Landsbro, Sweden in 1990 Erik Karlsson is probably one of the more arrogant defensemen in the NHL. Last season that may have been justified. But not this season. That being said, he's definitely shown off his skill as a forward and will do so whenever he can. He likes to take the lead and rush the net. Born in 1997 in Richmond Hill, Ontario Connor McDavid is an incredibly young captain with the Edmonton Oilers. Jennings Trophy with Corey Crawford of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Question 31

Burns spent the 2002-03 season with Brampton of the Ontario Hockey League before making the Minnesota Wild roster in 2003-04. In 2014-15, he faced the most shots in the League (2,044), made the most saves (1,887), played the most games (73) and finished second in wins (41). Not too shabby.

So it is fitting that Kopitar made his mark near Hollywood with the Los Angeles Kings. The first player from Slovenia to reach the NHL, Kopitar excels at both ends of the ice.
