Play 'Friend Or Foe' And We'll Reveal Your Super Villain (Or Superhero) Nemesis

Superheroes and supervillains have been a rising trend in the entertainment business for years and years now. There have been many movies, as well as television shows dedicated to honoring some of the greatest comic book franchises to date. The two most recognized are of course Marvel and DC Comics. Marvel has sort of two different universes when it comes to film: the Marvel Cinematic Universe which consists of the Avengers as well as several other characters including the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Ant-Man. The other Marvel film universe includes the “mutants” which basically consists of the X-Men.

The same goes for DC Comics, but the divide is more between the film universe and the television series. Although Marvel does have a number of television shows inspired by their comics, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Agent Carter, and The Defenders, there are crossovers with characters (e.g Phil Coulson). Major DC characters that are featured in movies include of course Batman and Superman, as well as some other rising characters from the Justice League. Examples of some DC inspired television shows include Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, Supergirl and Titan.

Question 1

Spider-Man

This first character is Spider-Man. This character has received the most “versions,” including the original franchise where the character was played by Tobey Maguire. In that series, Spider-Man was an adult and he faced a number of villains, although the recurring was of course the Green Goblin. The second Spider-Man was portrayed by Andrew Garfield, and he was graduating from high school and entering college years. Similar to the first Spider-Man, his biggest foe was the Green Goblin. The most recent Spider-Man is being played by Tom Holland.

Thanos

This character is Thanos and he is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This character definitely holds the “super villain” status, especially with the events that took place in the most recent film, Avengers: Infinity War. This character has played a role in a number of different films, but his desire has always remained the same. He wanted to collect all six Infinity Stones so he could gain control over everything. With the simple snap of his finger he could erase half of the living beings in the universe.

Black Widow

This character is Black Widow and she’s been featured in a number of Marvel movies, including the Avengers and individual character movies as well. Her backstory has been revealed over the course of many films, which includes how she began her assassin training and the fact that the process includes becoming sterile. Although she doesn’t have any enhanced abilities like some of the other Avengers members, her skills reflect her hard work and determination to be the best in the business.

Batman

This character is Batman and he is a part of the DC Comics. Similar to some of the other characters featured in this quiz, there have been many versions of Batman. Some of the most recognized roles include Christian Bale from The Dark Knight franchise and Ben Affleck who has taken on the role for the more recent films. This includes his portrayal in Batman Vs Superman and Justice League. Batman is a unique character because he’s neither a hero or a villain, but instead a fusion of both.

Superman

This character is Superman and he is a popular member featured in the DC Comics. Similar to Batman, Superman has had many versions over the years. An example is the show Smallville, which starred Tom Welling and aired between 2001 and 2011 (Wikipedia). Other actors who have played this character include Christopher Reeve, Tyler Hoechlin, and Henry Cavill. The premise of this character is in general the same: Superman was raised by his earth parents and learned of his powers over time.

Wonder Woman

This character is Wonder Woman and she is a member featured in the DC Comics. This character has also had several versions over the years, the most recent includes the portrayal by Gal Godot in the Wonder Woman movie. Her origin story includes being made of clay by her mother and being brought to life by Zeus. She was raised by the Amazons, and taught to be a brave warrior by her aunt so she could one day protect the earth from threats.

Captain America

This character is Captain America and he is a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Played by Chris Evans, this character has been featured in a number of movies, including the Avengers movies and his own individual films. Before he became Captain America, Steve Rogers was just a boy who wanted to make a difference in the world, but his small frame made that nearly impossible. After a scientist saw his true personality, Steve was selected to be the first participant in the Super Soldier experiment.

Iron Man

This character is Iron Man and he is played by Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man is another major character featured in the MCU. Throughout the franchise he has been depicted as a billionaire who inherited his father’s company, as well as a sort of genius. This doesn’t just include his ability to design and create a number of different Iron Man suits, all of which are different models and have different functions. He’s a unique character because although he’s just a man, his suit gives him power.

Thor

This character is Thor and he is played by Chris Hemsworth. This character is another member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is one of the six original Avengers. Unlike all of the other Avengers who were born on earth, Thor is a god (the God of Thunder to be exact) and was born and raised on the planet Asgard. Although a prince, he had much to learn about ruling and responsibility, which is part of the reason why his father exiled him on earth in the first place.

Joker

This character is the Joker and he is a part of the movies and television shows based off of DC Comics. Similar to some of the other characters featured in this quiz, there has been many adaptations of the Joker. Some of these actors include Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and the most recent portrayal was from Jared Leto. The Joker is most known for his crimes held in Gotham City, and is of course associated with Batman who is always trying to put an end to him.

Aquaman

This character is known as Aquaman and is part of the DC Comics world. He is played by Jason Momoa, where the character has been featured in the collaboration film “Justice League,” as well as the more recent individual movie titled “Aquaman.” In the first movie, not much was known about this character’s origin story due to the fact that he was a grown adult. However, in his solo movie, it is revealed this character is an Atlantis descendant (where he is also half-human), and that his brother had taken over the kingdom.

Question 12

Hulk

This character is known as the Hulk and is one of the original Avengers featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Again, this character had also previously had another adaptation prior to the more recent films, which was played by Edward Norton. In the Avengers movies (as well as individual films), actor Mark Ruffalo has taken on the role on numerous accounts. What makes this character unique is the fact that it really is two separate characters - the Hulk, who is more or less the monster; and Bruce, the scientist behind it all.

Question 13

Hawkeye

This character is nicknamed Hawkeye and is one of the first original members of the Avengers team from the MCU. In this franchise, Jeremy Renner has reprised the role multiple times, and is also one of the few who doesn’t actually have any genetically enhanced abilities. Unlike Captain America who was injected with a serum, Hawkeye’s skills are his and his alone, the product of years of practicing. Someone unique about this character is the fact he had a secret family that only Natasha knew about.

Scarlet Witch

This character is known as Scarlet Witch and she is one of the newer characters introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Initially this character and her twin brother were characterized as the new potential villains, but this is because their motivations were fueled by vengeance. After realizing what intent their ally had, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver switch sides and she hadn’t looked back since. With the ability to manipulate minds and matter, Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful characters in the franchise.

Harley Quinn

This character is Harley Quinn, and although this character has been present in a number of shows, the most recent adaptation was played by Margot Robbie. Throughout the movie, the audience learns about the origin story of how Harley Quinn came to be. She was first a highly respected psychologist who worked at the asylum the Joker was in. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love, which sprouted this new identity. Together they came a ruthless couple that no one dared to cross.

Question 16

The Flash

This character is nicknamed the Flash and is a recurring character that was present in the DC Comics. This character, who was born Barry Allen, has been featured in both television as well as films. The Flash television series began airing in 2014 and is still in production (IMDd). The actor who plays that version is Grant Gustin, and he faces a number of super villains and even joins forces with some other heroes. In the recent Justice League film, actor Ezra Miller took on the role.

Green Arrow

This character is known as the Green Arrow and is a memorable character inspired by DC Comics. This character is primarily seen in the television series titled “Arrow” that began airing episodes back in 2012 (IMDd). This character, similar to another character already mentioned in this quiz is not technically a well defined superhero like some of the other characters who are only “good.” That being said, this character isn’t a super villain either, but more a “bringer of justice.”

Black Panther

This character is referred to as the Black Panther and is present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When this character was first introduced he was merely T’Challa, the son of the Black Panther. But after his father had fallen, that role was passed onto him, which came along with the role of being King of Wakanda. The Black Panther is one of the older superheroes, and is more of a “entity” than a singular person. T’Challa learns this during the initiation process when he’s able to see how many existed before him.

Loki

This character is Loki and he is present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When this character makes his first appearance, he take on the villain role after he tries to take over earth with an alien army. Even afterwards, being the God of Mischief he always has some trick up his sleeve to ensure his own protection. This often leads to the betrayal of his adoptive brother, Thor, who always gives him the benefit of the doubt. One of his signature moves is cloning himself.

Star-Lord

This character is known as Star-Lord (or just Peter Quill) and he is a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although in the most recent Avengers film he and his team join forces with the rest of the Avengers character, he isn’t technically one himself. Instead, he plays a role as being a Guardian of the Galaxy, alongside Gamora, Groot, Mantis, and Drax. This character is a half-human, half-celestial that grants him some unique abilities, such as being able to hold an Infinity Stone.

Robin

This character is known as Robin and he is a part of the DC Comics universe. There have been several adaptations with this character, the most recent being from the show Titans that began airing in 2018. The actor who plays Robin in this show is Brenton Thwaites where a majority of the main characters are young superheroes. To be fair, in the original comics that involved this character, he was also young and a sort of “sidekick” to Batman from time to time.

Lex Luthor

This character is known as Lex Luthor and he is a part of the DC Comics universe. Similar to some of the other characters mentioned in this quiz, there has been a number of adaptations of this character. To begin, he takes on a super villain role, where he’s always been against Superman in some form. In the more recent adaptation in the film Batman Vs. Superman, his obsession with Superman’s kryptonite. Being that he’s a billionaire, he manages to get some imported to his facility.

Supergirl

This character is known as Supergirl and she is present in the DC Comics universe. Similar to many of the character in this quiz, there has been many versions of this character. The most popular (and recent) is from the television titled Supergirl, which began airing in 2015 and Kara Zor-El is portrayed by Melissa Benoist (Wikipedia). This show offers more of a backstory on her character, which was often overlooked because of Superman. She was also sent down to earth and was supposed to look over Kal-El, but they were unfortunately separated.

Question 24

Groot

This character is known as Groot and he is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is first introduced in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and has gone through substantial physical changes throughout all the movies he’s appeared in. The first he was full grown, but after sacrificing himself to save the others his character became only a baby sprout. In the latest Avengers movie, he was his “teenage” version. Although he is only capable of saying “I am Groot,” the rest of the Guardians understand what he means.

Question 25

Ronan

This character is referred to as Ronan and he is a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He plays only a major role in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy as one of the antagonists. As it had been made apparent in several films, Thanos was after the Infinity Stones so he could hold all the power in his hands. However, he had many of his associates search and collect the stones for him, and Ronan was one of them. He was supposed to retrieve the Power Stone that was inside the orb.

Jean Grey

This character is Jean Grey from the X-Men franchise which is part of the Marvel universe (not to be confused with the MCU). There are two different “versions” of this character and this is due to the timeline change where some of the newer X-Men movies have incorporated the lives of the X-Men team from when they were teenagers. However, their overall characteristics are still the same. Jean’s mutant powers consist of telepathy and telekinesis, similar to Professor X. However, she also held a darker power where her alter ego was nicknamed The Phoenix.

Magneto

This character is known as Magneto and he is present in the Marvel X-Men franchise. Similar to the character mentioned above, there is a younger version and an older version of Magneto that has made it to the big screen because of the fact one of the characters went back in time. Magneto’s power consists of being able to harness and control any and all metal to his will. It took him a while to elevate this power, with the help of Charles he became nearly unstoppable.

Cyborg

This character is known as Cyborg and he is a character inspired by the DC Comics. He makes his debut in the movie Justice League where a number of different superhero characters join together in a collaboration film. He was sought out by Wonder Woman and Batman as they attempt to revive Superman. Cyborg offered his expertise and knowledge on such a task, and was hesitant of the repercussions. What’s unique about Cyborg is the fact that he’s quite literally a half-human, half-robot hybrid.

Hela

This character is named Hela and she plays a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She makes her debut in one of the individual Avengers movies, titled Thor: Ragnarok. After Thor and Loki are able to track down their father, he tells them he’s about to depart from their world. However, with his leave, their sister will be unleashed from her cage and to no surprise, she shows up quite promptly. Being the eldest child of Odin, Hela believed it was her rightful place to rule Asgard.

Ultron

This character is named Ultron and he plays a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unknown to the rest of the group, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner had been investigating and creating a force beyond their control. Thus, Ultron was born, and he developed a mind of his own despite being created from artificial intelligence. He was no friend to the Avengers either, or humankind for that matter. His sole purpose was to erase the human race from the planet, and teamed up with the Maximoff twins to do so.

Catwoman

This character is known as Catwoman and she is inspired by the character from the DC Comics. Similar to some of the other characters featured in this quiz, Catwoman has been played by several actresses over the years including Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway (Wikipedia). Also, she shares the same “blurred line” over the hero and villain status, where she is neither one of them. Her biggest association would be with Batman, where the two are known to have shared some sort of romance at one point in time.

Gamora

This character is known as Gamora and she is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although she’s not technically an Avenger herself she is part of the Guardians of the Galaxy team. As one of the adopted children of Thanos, Gamora is quite knowledgeable in his motivations and desires for the Infinity Stones. This is one of the main reasons she goes against him and would stop at nothing to keep the orb away from him. The only good thing he did for her was help train her to be a master assassin.

This character is known as Falcon and he is present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is one of the newer additions to the Avengers team, where his closest ally is Captain America. The two formally met while Steve Rogers was adjusting to his new life, and the two bonded because they ran the same route together. Eventually they became acquainted, and it is learned that Sam (Falcon) was a former pararescue in the Air Force and was well equipped with an entire suit and everything.

This character is known as Professor X and he is present in the X-Men Marvel franchise. Again, similar to some of the characters mentioned earlier in this quiz, there are two different “versions” or ages of this character which is due to the separate timelines. The latest timeline where Professor X is simply Charles, it explains how he came to be paralyzed and in need of his high tech chair. Similar to Jean, Charles mutant power lies with his telepathy and telekinesis. However, he was often afflicted with how many voices he could hear.

This character is known as Doctor Strange and he is a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He makes his major debut in his individual movie, which explains how he came to be Doctor Strange. Initially he was simply Stephen Strange, a highly skilled surgeon who was the best in the business. After an accident left him unable to use his hands adequately, he sought out the mystical arts as a solution. From there, he became devoted to protecting the earth with the use of the Time Stone.

This character is Rocket Raccoon and he is a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He makes his debut appearance in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. At the time he was working as a bounty hunter with his pal Groot, and they had their eyes set on Peter Quill because he had taken the orb. Unfortunately he, along with the rest of the group, are arrested and taken to the same facility. Putting their differences aside, they manage to formulate an escape plan.

This character is known as Nebula and she’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This character is also associated with the Guardians of the Galaxy but in a different way. The first few times she’s seen, Nebula takes on a more antagonist role, especially when her adopted sibling Gamora turns her back on their father, Thanos. This was only because Nebula wanted to prove to Thanos once and for all she was a worthy daughter of his. Unfortunately as children, he pitted Nebula and Gamora against each other.

This character is known as Quicksilver and is part of the Marvel universe. What’s unique about this character is the fact that there are two versions that has been featured in the movies. The first is an an X-Men, where he’s a teenage boy whose mutant powers is incredible speed. His nickname Quicksilver alludes to the fact that his father is possibly Magneto. In the MCU, Quicksilver is the twin to Scarlet Witch, and he developed his ability after being experimented on from HYDRA associates.

Red Skull

This character is known as Red Skull and he’s a villain who was featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s one of the first villains that Captain America faces once he becomes a superhero. He was associated with the villainous organization HYDRA, that was still in operation after Steve awoke several decades later. Red Skull attempted to harness the Tesseract’s energy but lost his life to it. He makes a short appearance in the latest Avengers movie, Infinity War where it is revealed he was merely transported somewhere else.

Killmonger

This character is known as Killmonger and he is a character present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He makes his appearance in the film Black Panther as a villain to T’Challa. After T’Challa ascends the throne as the new Black Panther and King of Wakanda, his reign is challenged by Killmonger for they’re cousins by birth. Although raised out of the country of Wakanda, his father had taught him all he needed to know. Because his uncle was responsible for the loss of his father, Killmonger returned to Wakanda to avenge him and become the new king.
