Trivia! Who doesn't love trivia?! And movie trivia at that! What more can you say? Movies wouldn't be movies if it weren't for the dialogue. That's where the story truly begins; it starts as an idea in the writer's mind. Then the words begin to form and are put down onto paper. After days, maybe weeks, or months of writing ... the script is finally complete. The story has officially been told; from beginning to middle to end. Characters have been fleshed out now and are about to come to life. Because the next step is the director reading and then approving the script. Before you know it, people are being cast for specific roles, locations are being scouted out and sets are being assembled! Wow! What a truly awesome process; from sheets of paper to the silver screen. That must be why they call Hollywood "The Dream Factory." And, that's what brings us to this quiz. It's all about the dialogue. How closely did the viewer pay attention? What were those particular words or phrases that the actors made so memorable when they spoke them? All that's required for this quiz is to simply fill in the blanks! That's it. It's just that easy. Not to mention the fact that it's multiple choice! So start scrolling, check out the choices, but most of all ... have fun!
"One ring to rule them _____."
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - The message is pretty much in the title. It's a movie about fellowship and about friendship. It's not just about knowing the right thing to do; it's about being able to make the choice and to stick with it. It's a passage. It's about friendship and dedication. Frodo is fortunate enough to have his friends, his true friends, there with him. It's their support and encouragement that helps to give him the strength he needs to see things through.
"Fish are our friends, not _____."
Finding Nemo - It's not like he did it on purpose. Nemo's just a kid. And, what kid doesn't feel the need to rebel against their parents at some point. At least once. Only this once ... he got caught. Well, caught in a net. Caught in a net then into the boat, and then into the aquarium. But, that's when things started to turn around. At least a little bit, anyway. There were new friends there. Friends who were ready and willing to help him get home and get back to his dad.
"I'm Ron by the way, Ron _____."
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - Rarely has there ever been a better group of friends. Or, a better group of wizards for that matter. Unfortunately, poor Harry never asked for any of this. Granted, if it weren't for the evil and the dark magic, perhaps he'd never have ended up where he did. Or, perhaps he'd have never met the extraordinary people who helped to shape his life. Harry Potter is one of those great on-screen personifications of what it means to fight for what's right, at any cost.
" Yeah, I can _____."
Iron Man - Tony Stark's story was pretty much the genesis of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; at least for the 21st century anyway. Like most heroes, Iron Man was born out of a necessity. Sadly, it took a tragic life experience for Tony to see what truly needed to be done. After finding out that his company's military funding and military armaments were being sold to the bad guys as well as the good guys, that was when Stark finally saw what he had to do.
"You got into Harvard Law?" "What? Like it's _____?"
Legally Blonde - The beautiful irony of it all is that Elle didn't actually start out with a great ambition to be a lawyer. She started out with a great ambition to be "Mrs. Warren Huntington III." But, in her determination to go after the man she loves, she found so much more. Elle found that there was more to her than just being dependent on someone else to get you the things you want or for someone else to make you happy.
"Who wants to be a _____?"
Slumdog Millionaire - What a unique story, and what a unique way to tell it?! "Slumdog Millionaire" was not only a tale of struggle and of triumph, but a wonderfully told love story as well. Like so many films about inspiration, this one takes us on an incredible journey that spans one young man's entire lifetime (so far). And it's not only about trying to find a way back to the girl that he loves, but also about the people who try to stand in his way.
"We can stay up late, swapping manly stories, and in the morning, I'm making _____!"
Shrek - Who of us out there didn't instantly fall in love with the title character of this movie. Right from the beginning, "Shrek" is such an awesome new twist on the whole idea of a fairy tale and how it's told. The other key players are just as charming and so is the story. Some would even argue that Donkey practically steals the attention away from our main character half of the time. And, Princess Fiona has absolutely no problem holding her own in the spotlight alongside the other two.
"Can't you just be a _____ neighborhood Spider-Man?"
Spider-Man: Homecoming - Comic book heroes come in all kinds of shapes and sizes (obviously). But each one is different and each one is unique. That's part of what makes them so likeable and part of the reason we want to cheer for them. It's not just that they're here to save us and to protect us; they're here to inspire us and to encourage us. On a more cinematic note, they're also here to entertain us. Sometimes it's nice to let someone else right the wrongs for a while.
"You've got _____ on you."
Shaun of the [End] - Poor Shaun. Poor Ed. They were just minding their own business; just doing what they always do. Shaun was working like he does every day, and trying to make things right with his girlfriend. Ed was, well... Ed was simply doing what he does best, which isn't much. And, suddenly, it all became about... zombies!? How is anyone supposed to handle that kind of situation on top of the normal daily struggles that we all have to deal with? Maybe they just need a plan.
"Faster than fast, quicker than quick, I am _____."
Cars - There really aren't that many of us out there anymore who would think of a leisurely drive along ol' Route 66. Maybe that's the problem; maybe we should. McQueen never gave it a second thought, but things sure got a lot better once he learned to just slow down for a while and take his time or 'smell the roses' if you will. Sometimes that's just what any of us need. Some friends (maybe new friends) to help us see the things we're missing.
" ... images glimpsed through this _____ telescope."
Thor - Thor is a whole other kind of hero all his own. Having come from Norse mythology, to begin with, one could argue that his legend has been around a bit longer than any of the other Marvel heroes have. But that, in no way, makes him any less popular. Captain America may have the military know-how, and Iron Man may have the money AND the brains, but... let's face it. Thor has the brawn. And we love him for it!
"I can do this _____."
Captain America - Captain America is another great adaptation of the proverbial "little guy," determined to stand up to the proverbial "big guy." The difference is, Steve Rogers eventually gets a chance to be the big guy. Then again, maybe that's what makes him such a great hero and maybe that's part of what makes it such a great story. Either way, Cap' is definitely one of those kinds of heroes that we love to root for. And, this film was certainly another home run for the MCU.
"It's not an 'S.' On my world it means _____."
Man of Steel - He's Superman. All he wants to do is fight for truth and justice. That's a good thing. So, why does anybody have to get in the way of that? Maybe it's just because that's the way the world works. Maybe there just can't be one force or element without the other. Perhaps good just can't exist without evil. But, fear not. Because this is what Superman does. He fights for us. He lives to save the day. And he's the best at what he does.
"I have an army." "We have a _____."
The Avengers - If they can't save our planet, they'll darn sure avenge it. Well, that's what they do. Isn't it? They are the AVENGERS after all. Marvel absolutely hit the jackpot with this culmination of superheroes who had been previously holding their own in their solo films. The coming together of these four, main characters were beautifully crafted and extraordinarily produced by all parties that were involved. Amazingly, no one's role overshadowed any others and the final product was cinematic gold!
"McAvoy or _____? These timelines can get so confusing."
Deadpool - Okay, so this is one of those films where the term, 'superhero' may get a little stretched or maybe just a tad distorted, but, it still makes for a great movie! Wade Wilson is definitely a guy who operates on the shady side of the law, there's no doubt about that. But, like so many others, it takes a great loss in his life for him to start doing the right thing. How he achieves 'the right thing,' now that's a whole other story.
"My name's _____. Great name, I know ... but, it's not the worst."
How to Train Your Dragon - Ahh... a boy and his dog, er, a boy and his dragon in this case. A classic tale of man and beast in harmony with each other. Well, maybe not right from the beginning, but certainly for the majority of the movie. It's the time (and the land) of Vikings and Viking ships. Yes, and dragons, too. But, it is a time of great men and women and great battles ... even if you're a dragon no one understands.
"Flash, Flash, Hundred-Yard _____!"
Zootopia - Could there actually be such a heavenly place? Such an amazing city... or a utopia, if you will. How great would it be if there were a land where both predators and prey could live side by side in peace. And, not only that but a world where anyone and everyone could be anything they ever dreamed of being. Judy Hopps certainly thinks so. Nick may not agree, but, he's a fox after all. So, what would you expect?
"Apes not [end] _____."
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - The continuing story of a nation of genetically evolved apes and their leader (the progenitor), known as Caesar. Despite the threat of a devastating plague, there are still several, small, groups of human survivors. In this chapter, Caesar continues to try and keep a fragile peace with the humans, while at the same time, teach peace and understanding to his own kind and keep both sides from reaching the brink of war.
"Welcome to the _____ Hunger Games!"
The Hunger Games - Welcome to... "The Hunger Games!" 2012's runaway hit was nothing short of amazing! Another fantastic adaptation of a best-selling novel to the big screen. From the very beginning of the film to the very end, Katniss and Peeta hold our attention like no other characters have in quite a while. Not only were so many people moved by Katniss's selfless act to protect her sister, but we all watched and waited and cheered and wanted to know what may or may not happen Katniss and Peeta!
"You look like a _____."
The 40-Year-Old Virgin - Andy's 40 years old and he's kinda got a secret. But it's not really the type of secret you share with a lot of people. Maybe you would with your friends. That's the thing, though. Andy doesn't have a whole lot of friends. There are the guys that he works with; maybe he could talk to them. It could be a bit of a stretch though. Then again, when you need advice, you have to get it from somewhere. Especially after forty years.
"Don't freeze." "I never _____."
Black Panther. Finally, after the catastrophic events of "Captain America: Civil War," T'Challa returns home to Wakanda and to take his rightful place as leader. Only, upon his return, the new king finds that there is already dissension among some of his people and he is being challenged for the throne. Fortunately, King T'Challa is smart enough to know when to ask for help and realizes the need to team up with CIA agent Everette Ross. Together, they do everything they can to prevent Wakanda from becoming just another war-torn country.
"Eeeww! She's got _____!"
Despicable Me 2 - Gru is still busy raising his daughters and now researching a legitimate jelly and jam business with Dr. Nefario and his beloved minions. Meanwhile, Anti-Villain League agent Lucy Wilde recruits Gru to help her agency discover who has stolen a secret laboratory and its research. All they know so far is that the thief has a store in the mall. Gru suspects that the owner of the Mexican restaurant, Salsa & Salsa, maybe the villain El Macho that is presumed deceased!
"He has a mountain of ____."
Hot Tub Time Machine. Adam, Lou, Nick, and Adam's nephew Jacob, go to a winter resort that was their old party place. It's now a dump, but the guys rally for a night of drinking in the hot tub. Somehow, the magical hot tub takes them back to 1986, on a fateful night for each of them. Maybe, just maybe ... if they do everything the same way they did that night, they'll get back to the future so Jacob can be born.
"You've got to move it, _____!"
Madagascar. Okay ... so some simply thought that "Madagascar" might be just another one of those "take the kids to keep them amused" kind of movies. But, we were (as DreamWorks so often does) pleasantly surprised by the fresh comedy and sharp wit of all four of the main characters. Another great animated story about friendship, forgiveness, and perseverance. Not to mention the two sequels and those lovable penguins.
"We need more _____!"
Jurassic World - Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, er, wait, wrong movie. Just when you thought we'd seen the last of the dinosaurs and the foolish manoeuvres of scientists, geneticists and their wack-a-doo theories... along comes "Jurassic Park World," another brilliant instalment from Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton. It's been 22 years since the failure of the original Jurassic Park; but, hey, they've fixed all that and corrected all the silly mistakes. So there are a few new dinosaurs ... what harm could that do?
"Hey, let's play a game. It's called "See Who Can Be _____ the Longest."
Up - As a boy, Carl Fredricksen wanted to explore South America and find the forbidden Paradise Falls. About 64 years later, he gets to begin his journey along with a Boy Scout named Russel by lifting his house with thousands of balloons. On their journey, they make many new friends, not to mention a talking dog (yes, a talking dog). But, someone else has evil plans. Will Carl and Russell be able to defeat the evildoer and find Paradise Falls?
"The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world; God versus man, day versus night, Son of Krypton versus Bat of _____!"
Batman vs Superman - After the success of the last Dark Knight trilogy and "Man of Steel," DC throws its hat in the ring again with this follow-up story. Clark Kent (otherwise known as Superman) had definitely made an impression on the world and its people. Here to fight for what's right, Superman is the people's champion. But there are some who are still sceptical. Batman is one of them. How do we know he's not really here to conquer our world instead of saving it. After all, he is an alien.
"Dressed like a _____. I dig it."
Justice League - There's a new team in town and they're here to fight on the side of good. With a group of champions like Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash, who would have the nerve to stand against them. A lot of people, unfortunately. But that's why we need heroes, right? Not only to defend us and save us but to continue to remind us that even when things seem to be at their darkest, we still need to hold on to hope.
"But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can _____ and keep moving foreward!"
Rocky Balboa - Even before the sensational "Creed" franchise began, Sylvester Stallone wrote, directed, and starred in another epic chapter of the "Rocky" series. Years after the last sequel, Rocky is living on his own (with Adrien having passed on from cancer) and estranged from his son. Deep down, he feels that something is still gnawing away at him inside. When he's approached by a pair of promoters, with an offer he's not sure he should accept, Rocky decides to show the world that it's never really over 'till it's over!
"I will fight for those who cannot fight for _____."
Wonder Woman - With so much on the line for a new (yet, classic) DC character to grace the big screen, it's as if the audience was holding its breath the whole time. Everyone wondered if our new Wonder Woman would come off as too shy, or too timid, or just not strong enough to wear that famous tiara. However, Gal Gadot and Chris Pine's performances were both out of this world! The resulting film was a smash success and one of the best comic book adaptations of the year!
