Plan An Exotic Cruise And We'll Reveal The Perfect Cabin Mate

There's nothing better than a week of vacation, which opens the door for any number of adventurous possibilities. While some people like to kick back at home, others would much rather spend the time on an exciting cruise someplace exotic.

Cruises are easily becoming one of the best ways for someone to see the world and not break the bank at the same time. They're also perfect to enjoy whether someone is taking a trip alone, with friends, family, and especially, their significant other.

While some people don't like the idea of being at sea with a bunch of strangers swarming the deck, there is no shortage of different types of cruises depending upon a person's desires. For instance, going on a cruise doesn't always mean venturing to the Caribbean. Nor does it mean being on a massive ship with thousands of people.

And while plenty of cruises are overflowing with families and their noisy kids, there are plenty of places to go the ship if someone wants a more relaxed and intimate setting. Not to mention that there are even cruises these days that are only for people over 21-years-old.

So let's plan the perfect cruise and reveal the ideal cabin mate!

Question 1

Pick a cruise location.

The Caribbean is the most popular destination to go on a cruise. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the right fit for you. There are cruises that take place all over the world, giving you no shortage of destination to choose from. So out of these four popular spots, which one would be the most ideal fit for you?

Question 2

What time of year would be best?

Because most cruises take place somewhere tropical, the time of year is usually pretty flexible. Though it wouldn’t be a bad idea to avoid hurricane season in some of these areas. But if going on a cruise in some place like Alaska is more your cup of tea, you’ll probably want to shoot for the summer season.

Question 3

Big or small cruise ship?

Most cruises that you see advertised are humungous ships capable of fitting thousands of passengers, not to mention hundreds of employees. But there still a ton of smaller cruise ships out there that might be more your style. While they might not have all the decadence, they would mean a lot fewer people to deal with.

Question 4

Pick a cruise line.

Chances are that the cruise you go on is going to come down the location and the price. But if you’ve already been on a few cruises, chances are you’ve ended up liking one brand more than the others. The four cruise lines are currently a few of the biggest in the business. So do you have a preference?

Question 5

Rather spend more time on the ship or at port?

For some people, going on a cruise is all about getting to visit various parts of the world. It’s basically a more laid-back approach to going on an adventurous trip. Meanwhile, other people see the ports as simply an opportunity to stretch their legs, and would rather spend their time lounging on the deck while staring out at the sea.

Question 6

What’s a must-have in the cabin?

Because cruise ships have to fit so many people on board while also saving a ton of room for daily activities, cruise ship cabins are notoriously small. But if money is no option, you can always splurge for a bigger room with more amenities. So which one of these would you rather have?

Question 7

Pick something to do at port.

Most of the ports that cruise ships stop at are very touristy. Which also means that the attractions can be rather expensive. So if you’re looking to save a few bucks, two of the cheaper activities you could partake in would involve simply hitting the local beaches or embarking on a hike.

Question 8

Pick a morning activity.

Are you the type of person who wakes up with quite the appetite? If that’s the case, you may want to hit the cruise ship breakfast buffet as soon as you roll out of bed. Or maybe you’re one of those workout enthusiasts who would rather get in a few laps in at the pool before it fills up with others.

Question 9

How long would the ideal cruise last?

Most cruises last about a week, which makes sense considering that that’s the amount of time that most people get off from work at any given time. But if you had the choice, would you rather the cruise be a lot longer than one week? Or would you be happy to keep the experience short and sweet?

Question 10

Rather go tanning or go to the spa?

A lot of people want to go on vacation someplace tropical just so they can get a tan. Not only do they think this makes them look better, but it’s something they can show off when they return to school/ work and prove to everyone else that they spent the last week basking in the sun.

Question 11

Does zip-lining sound like fun?

Even if your particular cruise doesn’t have a bunch of theme park-type activities on board, many of the ports have these kinds of attractions for tourists. So are you the type of person who would love to zip across the sky and get an ariel view of the water or mountains? Or does this not sound fun at all?

Question 12

How about a game of mini-golf?

Even if someone is not into regular golf, there’s a better chance that they would enjoy a game of mini-golf — which isn’t nearly as competitive and requires far much less skill. Plenty of cruise ships now have mini-golf courses. But does this sound like a fun activity or a place that would be overflowing with noisy children?

Question 13

Rather attend a musical performance or stand-up comedy?

There’s usually no shortage of entertainment on board most cruise ships. Many cruises now travel with a variety of musical performers, magicians, and stand-up comedians. So are you the type of person who would like to go out and dance/ sing along? Or would you rather sit back and have a comedian make you laugh?

Question 14

Is visiting the casino on the agenda?

Most cruise ships have casinos where passengers can hit the slots or play a wide variety of card games. Some people love hitting these casinos, while others find these games to be a bit on the boring side. Not to mention that they can be a good way to lose money if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Question 15

How about late-night dancing?

Plenty of cruise ships have dance competitions during the day that can take place when passengers are outside and enjoying the sun. And some even offer dance lessons now as well. But these two options are definitely not as romantic as doing some late-night dancing with your significant other. Don't you agree?

Question 16

Rather wake up earlier or sleep in?

Some people love to make the most out of their vacation and get up at the crack of dawn every morning and get started on the day’s activities. Meanwhile, other people see this as completely against the point of a vacation. After all, most people have to wake up to the alarm every other day of their lives.

Question 17

Does a game of volleyball sound like fun?

The nice thing about a cruise is that you don’t really have to go out of your way to get involved with an activity — they’re always going on around you. Volleyball is a popular game to play out in the sun. But does the idea of being competitive and getting sweaty sound like your ideal way to spend a cruise?

Question 18

How about riding the water rides?

Most cruises don’t just have pools now, they have a ton of different slides and other water-based rides to enjoy right from the cruise ship. The one issue here — for some people, at least — is that these type of activities are bound to be overflowing with kids. But would that dissuade you from enjoying them?

Question 19

Rather get in the pool or relax beside it?

There’s a lot of people that don’t even like to get into pools or hot tubs, whether it be because of the germs or the chemicals. Or even just the idea of being wet for so long. But that doesn’t mean that these people still can’t enjoy a cruise by catching some sunshine and enjoying the sites.

Question 20

Pick something to do at port.

While plenty of cruise ships have no shortage of food, sometimes this food isn’t exactly the freshest. It needs to survive on board for at least a week, after all. So when you’re at port, would you rather take the opportunity to try some fresh, local cuisine? Or would you rather just walk the city?

Question 21

Rather watch the sunrise or sunset?

Being out on the open seas is an experience like no other. And without buildings or mountains or trees to obstruct your view, you can enjoy looking at the sky like never before. So would you rather wake up extra earlier to watch the sun appear over the horizon? Or rather be a little more traditional and enjoy a sunset?

Question 22

Pick a mid-day activity.

There’s no shortage of things to do during the day on a cruise ship. So would you rather hit the slots or play some cards at the casino with your significant other? Or spend a few hours relaxing in the hot tub in preparation for the evening events? Either way, you probably can’t go wrong.

Question 23

Rather relax or explore?

The nice thing about going on a cruise is that you can be as active or inactive as you want to be. If you want to wake up and partake in activities every day and run around at every port, you can. Conversely, if you want to kick back and be pampered the entire time, you can do that too.

Question 24

Preferred number of ports to stop at?

Of course, most people wouldn’t go on cruise ship if it meant being stuck on board with thousands of people out on the open sea for a week. Therefore, many people go on cruises just so they can do some exploring at the ports. So would you rather dock at more or fewer ports?

Question 25

Rather attend an adult-only cruise?

For some people, too many children or teenagers can begin to infringe on their relaxation. In which instance, they may find a cruise to be a much more enjoyable experience if all of the passengers aboard are at least 21 years old. While these types of cruises do actually exist, they’re few and far between.

Question 26

Rather make friends with the other passengers or keep to yourself?

When some people go on vacation, they love to take the time to get to know others and make some temporary friends for at least for the duration of the cruise. Meanwhile, some people would rather just keep to themselves and hang out with their friends and family whom they’re on vacation with. So where do you land on the spectrum?

Question 27

Does a sky course sound like fun?

On top of water rides, many cruise ships also have a sky or ropes courses which pretty much take place above all the other activities. While this might be the best view on the ship, does the idea of strapping yourself into a harness and climbing across obstacles sound like your idea of fun?

Question 28

Rather get a massage or get in a workout?

There are few better ways to relax than getting a professional massage. At least, as far as some people are concerned. And while massages can definitely help soothe one's muscles or get rid of back and neck pain, some people prefer to take care of themselves the old fashioned way with a workout. Even if they’re on vacation.

Question 29

Does snorkeling sound like fun?

Since all cruises happen on the ocean, there should be no shortage of opportunities to go snorkeling. In fact, hitting the port beaches with some snorkeling gear is probably one of the cheapest activities that you can partake in. It also gives you a chance to spend some time in the ocean and check out the sea life.

Question 30

Rather stick to the tourist attractions or venture off the beaten path?

Everything straight off the boat is bound to be pretty touristy. Maybe this is your style. After all, these places are specifically designed to entertain those on vacation. But if you’re someone who’s a little more on the adventurous side, you may want to go beyond the port area to find something a little more authentic.

Question 31

Rather enjoy a dinner for two or split a table with others?

In a lot of cruise ships, you’re going to end up sitting next to other while you enjoy your food. However, there are often higher-end restaurants that you can pay extra for if you want to have a more romantic meal with your significant other. So would this be money well spent?

Question 32

Rather attend the spa alone or with significant other?

For some people, spas are all about self care, and they’d rather go to one alone without having to worry about if their partner is enjoying themselves. However, their are others who want to spend every second of their vacation with their significant other so they can relax together. This is what couple’s massages are for anyway, isn’t it?

Question 33

Pick something to do at port.

Port cities largely rely on the commerce of tourists to stay afloat, which mean there is no shortage of stores and local markets to shop at. But if you’re looking to save a few bucks, these areas are also just great places to people watch — which can be all the fun you need if you’re already with your partner.

Question 34

Does a surf simulator sound like fun?

Plenty of people don’t like the idea of surfer because it involves getting out into the unpredictable ocean which could also be teeming with sharks. But these are two things that you don’t have to worry about on a surf simulator. Though it still seems like it would be quite the challenge.

Question 35

Pick a nighttime activity.

Vacation means that you can stay up as late as you want. So are you the type of person who would like to be out on the dance floor with your partner for hours on end? Or would you rather find a quieter place on the deck, sit back, and enjoy some stargazing together?
