With so many amazing movies out there, it can be hard to narrow down a favorite. Many of us have a top ten list but even then we want might want to add a few more from time to time. These are the movies that we know will always be able to entertain us and sometimes it's more comforting to watch a film we know we are certain to enjoy, rather than chance something new.

We might like to keep our favorite films on DVD, or on a harddrive, some of us might even have a few old VHS tapes lying around that we haul out every now and again for a touch of nostalgia. Everyone likes different things. But what we can all agree on is that movies are the perfect means to escape from the stress of everyday life. We can get wrapped up in a different world, even just for a little while. And if we can share those movies with someone special, well, that's even better!

Since 1989 we've all been obsessed with The Simpsons. It is undeniably one of the most popular animated TV shows of all time and shows no sign of coming to an end anytime soon. To have just one movie that becomes the highest grossing film of all time is impressive but two? Now that's some serious talent. That's exactly what director James Cameron did. He broke the box office with Titanic in 1997, which remained in the top spot until he released Avatar in 2009.

In this movie Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a high-tech thief who specializes in entering into peoples dreams to steal information like trade secrets and formulas. He gets offered a chance to have his crimincal history erased but to do so he needs to do something very different. Instead of stealing an idea, he must implant one into his targets mind instead.

6Easy A:

In this 2010 teen comedy, a clean-cut high school girl decides to spice things up a little by telling a lie. But things don't turn out quite the way she thought they would...It stars Emma Stone in the leading role with Stanley Tucci, Patricia Clarkson, Thomas Haden Church, Dan Byrd, Amanda Bynes, and Lisa Kudrow.

7Doctor Strange:

In this Marvel movie, Dr. Strange, a surgeon, finds his life changed forever when a car accident injures his hands. When traditional medicine fails to heal him he embarks on a journey to try and find an alternative cure but instead finds a world beyond his imagination. Who enjoyed this one?

8Silver Linings Playbook

In this 2015 romantic comedy, Bradley Cooper plays the role of a man who is trying to repair his relationship with his estranged wife. A widow, played by Jennifer Lawrence offers to help him in exchange for a favor. This movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards and Lawrence won Best Actress for her performance. (Wikipedia)

9Atomic Blonde:

Charlize Theron played the lead role in this 2017 spy thriller flick as Lorraine Broughton, a top-level MI6 field agent. The film was based on the graphic novel The Coldest City written by Antony Johnston. The movie also featured James McAvoy, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, and Sofia Boutella. Who enjoyed this one?

10Wreck-It Ralph:

Ralph is tired of being the bad guy. He lives in an arcade game where he feels left out because his role is always the villain. He decides to leave his game one night and head off to find a place where he can finally be a hero. And that's where the adventure begins!

11The Expendables:

This action flick was jammed-packed with big-name stars including Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, and Mickey Rourke. Sylvester Stallone played the lead role and the film was also co-written and directed by him. The film was a hit with audiences and two sequels were also made.

12Thor:

In this 2011 Marvel film, Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) is banished to Earth and stripped of all his powers after disobeying his father. His brother Loki then plots to take the Asgardian throne and it's up to Thor to stop him. This movie also featured Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Colm Feore, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, and Anthony Hopkins.

13The Hunger Games:

In this movie, Jennifer Lawrence plays the role of Katniss Everdeen. Katniss lives in a dystopian future where all regions, or Districts must send two of their children every year to The Hunger Games. She volunteers herself after her younger sisters name is drawn and is sent to fight for her life.

14Snow White and the Huntsman:

In this 2012 re-telling of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale, Kristen Stewart plays the role of Snow White with Charlize Theron as Queen Ravenna, her bad-to-the-bone step-mother. Chris Hemsworth plays the Huntsman and the film also features Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, and Toby Jones.

15The Lego Movie:

This 2014 animated movie told the story of Emmet Brickowski, an ordinary Lego Minifigure who has to become a hero in order to save his world as he knows it from being glued together forever. The film featured the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, and Will Arnett, as well as Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman.

16John Wick:

In this film, Keanu Reeves plays the role of a man who tried to leave his dark past behind him but a series of events forced back into the underworld again. When his car is stolen by the son of a syndicate boss he decides to take revenge. Who enjoyed Keanu as John Wick?

17Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them:

This fantasy film is based on the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them written by J.K Rowling in 2001. The storyline follows Newt Scamander (played Eddie Redmayne) a young man who finds, documents, and cares for a wide range of magical creatures. The film won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. 18Passengers:

In Passengers, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt play two passengers on a spaceship on route to a new colony planet thousands of years from Earth. Due to an error, they wake up 90 years before their hibernation is due to end. This science fiction romance also features Michael Sheen and Laurence Fishburne in supporting roles.

1910 Cloverfield Lane:

Imagine being in a car accident and waking up to find that an apocalypse event has taken place. That's exactly what happens to the main character in this movie based in the Cloverfield universe. She finds that she has been rescued by a man and taken to his underground shelter but he might not be the good samaritan he claims to be after all. Edge of the seat stuff!

20Blade Runner 2049:

Despite this science fiction flick getting positive reviews (and winning two Academy Awards) it was still a box office disappointment, grossing only $259 million on the back of an estimated budget of $185 million (Wikipedia). It starred Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, and also featured Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Dave Bautista, and Jared Leto.

21Toy Story 3:

This film, the third installment in the Toy Story franchise, was a big hit with fans, bringing in over $1 billion at the box office. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Sound Editing and won the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (Wikipedia).

22Super 8:

In this 2011 science fiction film (produced by Steven Spielberg) a group of young teenagers (Joel Courtney, Elle Fanning, and Kyle Chandler)are filming their own Super 8 movie when a train derails and releases a dangerous presence into their town. 23Guardians of the Galaxy:

In this MCU film, Chris Pratt plays the role of Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It features Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as the members of his team and also features Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, and Benicio del Toro.

24Baby Driver:

In Baby Driver, Ansel Elgort plays the role of a music lover who is forced to work as a getaway driver for a crime boss (played by Kevin Spacey). The film was chosen by the National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2017 and received three Academy Award nominations (Wikipedia). 26Ready Player One:

Wade is a teenager living in a dystopian future where the world is so overpopulated that it is generally not a very nice place to be. Because of this many people choose to spend most of their time in the OASIS, a virtual world where anyone can do anything. When the creator of the OASIS dies he leaves his estate to the person who can find his Easter egg inside this virtual world.

27Skyfall:

Skyfall is the twenty-third in the James Bond series. The first James Bond film, Dr. No, was made way back in 1962, starring Sean Connery in the leading role. In Skyfall, the role of James is played by Daniel Craig, with Javier Bardem as Raoul Silva, the villain. Was this one worth it or not?

28Shutter Island:

In this thriller flick, Leonardo DiCaprio plays the role of a U.S. Marshal who is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a woman from a secure mental facility on an island. But once he arrives a storm blows in and he finds himself trapped there as things get weirder and weirder...

In this film, Batman comes up against one of his toughest adverseries - The Joker. The Joker (played by Heath Ledger shortly before he passed away) only wants to wreak havoc and without any other motives, Batman has a tough time stopping him. Who enjoyed this Christopher Nolan superhero film?

30The Disaster Artist:

Imagine dreaming of being an actor but just not having the talent to get picked up. Well, that's exactly what happened to Tommy Wiseau but he didn't let it stop him. He decided to make his own movie and although it's been cited as one of the worst films ever made, people are still talking about it!

31Sherlock Holmes:

In this 2009 Guy Ritchie film, Robert Downey Jnr plays the role of Sherlock Holmes with Jude Law taking on the role of Dr. John Watson. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards; Best Original Score and Best Art Direction. Ritchie's other films include RocknRolla, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

32Men in Black 3:

In Men in Black 3, Agent J (Will Smith) is forced to travel back in time to save his partner and save the world from an alien invasion. This science fiction comedy was the third in the Men in Black film series and the 10th highest-grossing film of 2012, according to Wikipedia.

33The Lego Batman Movie:

In this animated movie, Batman finally manages (with some help from the new police commissioner) to catch all of Gotham's bad guys and lock them away. But he's bored and lonely without criminals to chase, and when an even worse bunch of baddies arrives in Gotham he has to team up with his former enemies (and a few new sidekicks) to save the day.

34The Martian:

In this movie, a group of astronauts collecting samples from Mars gets stuck in a sandstorm and is forced to leave one of their crew behind. But the astronaut (played by Matt Damon) survives and finds himself all alone on the Red Planet. Rescue is months away by the time he is able to alert anyone and he has to find a way to survive.

35Arrival:

What would happen if aliens ever did arrive on Earth? Well, we can't know for certain but if it ever were to happen we would probably have a hard time communicating with them. In this 2016 science fiction film, Amy Adams plays a linguist assigned to try and decipher the language of alien visitors.
