Pick Your Favorite Foods And We'll Tell You Where You Should Live

Eating is a necessary human behavior. But we all go about it in different ways. While some like takeout, others are passionate about the creation of food and slave over the stove for home cooked meals. Regardless of where you stand on this issue, the point is you have preferences. And what do your tastebuds say about you?

Are you more of a savory person or do you have a sweet tooth? What are your favorite spices? Do you like nuts and fruits in your main dishes? Do you like fruits at all? Could you imagine eating fish or curry for breakfast?

You are what you eat. After we figure out your palate in a few short questions we'll tell you the location that would best suit you gastronomically. Of course, this is all based on the where your favourite foods are produced so you could have access to them locally and when they're fresh. It's true that within countries and continents there is great deal of regional variety, and we added that in the quiz, using cuisines of different localities. The quiz will test how many foreign dishes and new veggies you've tried to determine where you'd best fit.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but what makes a good breakfast varies across continents and even counties! So, let the foodie in you decide! What does your ideal breakfast consist of? Is it more of a cold cereal, quick toast kind of deal or are you all about something big, savory, and filling?

What's your breakfast drink?

If you ask me there's no better an option than than freshly squeezed orange juice. But other people do tend to gravitate towards hot drinks in the morning. You're either a bore or an ascetic if you respond with "just water." What beverage often accompanies your breakfast?

How often do you eat?

Have you ever heard of the "French Paradox"? If you think about what makes French food so delicious, it's all that BUTTER! Butter is fat and salt, which when it comes to just about anything savory, is the magic ingredient. So, how do they stay so thin? Well, the answer is moderation and exercise! You can afford a croissant when you bike three miles to get it.

People around the world enjoy all sorts of movies. And when you go out to the cinema you always run into the wafting smell of their snack stand. Whether you buy snacks there or bring them from home it's always nice to chew on something when enjoying a good plot. What sorts of treats do like when vegging?

What's your favorite kind of tea?

Add any fragrant spice or herb into hot water and you get tea. Different countries have very different practices around the consummation of this beverage. In the UK tea has become synonymous to dinnertime. From Taiwan hails the super popular tea with tapioca pearls. What sort of tea is your favorite? Does it require milk?

A lot of cultures have different thresholds when it comes to gross and as such, you can often find insects on the menu around the world. Sometimes these are delicate traditions left over from Roman times. Others don't pretend to be refined and are served as salty bar snacks to go with your beer. Which of these have you tried?

What's the one spice you put on everything?

Many of these spices are shared across continents and cuisines. For example a lot of the flavours used in Mexican cooking are similar to Indian ones. Most of us have a spice we always reach for regardless of whether the meal asks for it or not. What is a spice you could not go without?

If you had to choose something artificially flavored, like a popsicle, which kind you reach for? Almost all of these offer a type of fruit flavor but which one tickles your tastebuds the most? Some artificial flavors manage to be even better than the original (in our honest opinions).

There is an international candy market that allows us to taste things from Turkish delight to Mexican cajeta. North American and European candy markets are more centred on the chocolate while Asia and the Middle East tend to diversify away from those milk-heavy products.

Some cultures require a really late eating time because after they go out to dance or party the night away, as Jan famously let us know in one of the most cringe-inducing episodes of The Office. Others prefer a staple meal way before they go to bed and then a light snack just before. When do you like to have dinner?

Some people reach for this drink to have as a aperitif before dinner while others like to drink with their meal. Other times drinks can serve as a palate cleanser between servings or as a nice digestif. What sorts of drinks do you normally go for? Are you all about soda or do you go for something a little stronger?

Different oils obviously provide different flavours and they all have have different burning temperatures so some may be more suitable for certain things. If you're making popcorn or frying make sure to use something with a high burning point-- like peanut oil.

Ok, so in the era of global trade technically these fruits are available anywhere. But you may not have been fed them when you were young. What sorts of fruits have you always loved-- dried or fresh, in juice or flavor? Are you more about exotic fruits or do you like the kind that you might be able to find in your own backyard?

Different areas of the world were introduced to different types of sweeteners before globalization made cane sugar available to everybody. But just ask your grandmother and she'll tell you that white sugar is not in fact gold! There are all kinds of ways to sweeten you food from juices to syrup. Which is your favorite?

Nuts are often used to garnish dinners and desserts, but they are also a fantastic snack. They're filled with the right kind of fat and almost every sort of nut is delicious (if you're not allergy-prone). Some are a little harder to get at like pistachios and walnuts but all are worth it.

How many of these fast food chains have you heard of? Everyone knows McDonalds picks up the regional varieties of wherever it's based (when in France, baguette sandwiches). In these other fast food options there's one that's completely vegetarian.

A lot of families pass on eating culture to their children. Whether that be eating without a knife and fork or always having company for dinner, many people grow up with these habits and continue to practice them into adulthood. Where do you find yourself having dinner on a regular basis?

How well can you use chopsticks?

Just about everybody loves some kind of Asian food whether it's Chinese, sushi, General Tao, or a nice curry. Still, not everybody is so keen on eating it with chopsticks. Maybe you're way too used to your knife and fork or maybe you've mastered the sticks. Let us know!

Nobody likes plain toast or bread and though butter is a go-to condiment it can get old after awhile. What is your favorite go-to spread or dip out of the ones below? What makes your toast absolutely perfect in the morning or as a snack)? Are you all about the butter or are you more of a jam kind of person?

Some people insist on having ice water even when it isn't hot out! Yes, it might provide you with more water when it melts but the coldness it brings to your drink actually slows digestion. Sparkling water probably slows digestion too, but I can never say no to it.

Most popular juices are fruit flavored. Some are carbonated while others are more smoothie-like. Certain ones absolutely need to be served cold. Like every food product there are healthy and unhealthy choices to be made. Would you go for the orange, apricot, or plum?

Soups are warm and hearty, perfect for when you're feeling under the weather or for when winter's coming. What is your favorite type of soup? Does it include an egg and lots of veggies? Or is it with cheese and bread? Maybe you like it when you can pretty much each it with a fork, or maybe you like purées?

What do you reach for when you're feeling peckish? Some households have veggies in the fridge on-hand so there's never an excuse to grab anything else. But sometimes all you want is a torn piece of baguette. So, tell us, how do you prefer to get your snack on?

Pickled veggies can be a great side dish to cut the grease and fat of whatever you're eating. Some are spicy and all are served cold. They add a little acidity and can work as a palate cleanser. Or you can eat them alone, you know, forking them from the jar.

Along with a grain, vegetables often constitute the base of whatever dish you're making. Think of all the sauces you couldn't make without them. You might even like to eat these vegetables raw. But which is the one you need for every meal?

For couscous, rice, or barley it's sometimes nice to flavor the water. Otherwise these staples can be rather bland, especially if you're not serving them with a sauce. How do you flavour these little things? What sorts of spices and flavorings do you have in the cupboard?

Though many cuisines share spices it is the unique combination of certain ones that gives a distinctive flavour. Which spices do you use so often you have them in your backyard? Which would you love to be able to grow or what do you already have colonizing your kitchen window sill?

A lot of our food is exported in from other places, giving us reach to try things that could never grow in our climate. However there are still fairly common fruits and vegetables that people haven't been exposed to for one reason or another. Have you heard of all of the ones below?

The Europeans are pretty much blowing it out of the water when it comes to chocolate. Belgium and Switzerland are known for luscious, yummy bars of pure heaven. However, Hershey has something to say about it too, with a factory in Pennsylvania that makes the entire town smell like chocolate. Yum!

Do you use utensils?

Utensils are a very European thing, at least if you're talking about a knife and fork. A lot of cultures simply forgo them for things like curry, nachos, tacos, and even pizza.
