For the most part, “chick flicks” are movies that incorporate love, romance, and a dash of drama that is targeted for female viewers. Movies that fall into this category came about because of the “chick lit” genre that became popular among literature. However, over the past few decades chick flicks no longer just consist of a man and a woman finding each other, falling in love and living happily ever after. Nowadays there are subcategories that can be found within this very broad genre.
For example – teen chick flicks. These movies are focused towards the younger audience and involve pre-teens or teenagers who are going through regular teenage struggles like fitting in or fighting with a boyfriend/girlfriend. Another is the rom com, which is probably the most popular type of chick flick because it involves both the romantic subplot and the humor to spice things up. Then comes the heartbreakingly beautiful love story chick flicks, which is basically just a sob fest for the entire two hours. And of course, who could forget the best friend chick flicks, where romance and love interests are pushed aside and friendships have their time to shine.

This movie is about a guy who is afraid to show his sensitive side in fear of losing his bad boy reputation, and a girl who only wants his affection. He tries to date her in secret so his guy friends don’t see him, but she quickly ends the relationship when she feels he is embarrassed to be seen with her.
Charlie’s Angels
This movie is about a trio of ladies who are equally beautiful as they are equip with intense fighting skills necessary for their private investigator jobs. Working for a secret billionaire, they are tasked with an assignment to locate one of his customers.
13 Going on 30
This movie is about a young girl who desires nothing more than to skip her awkward childhood phase and go to being a beautiful adult. Her wish comes true with some magic dust, and she wakes up over a decade later in her own apartment, working at her dream job.
Penelope
This movie is about a young woman whose family was cursed with a “pig snout” with the birth of their first daughter. Her mother, terrified what people would say if they saw her, locked her child up and played match maker to try and find a husband who would break the curse.

This movie is about a teenage girl who openly expresses how much she hates the world and the people in it. Labelled as “un-dateable,” the most popular guy in school pays the bad boy to pursue her so he can go out with her younger sister.
