Harry Potter is a world wide popular series created by J.K. Rowling. It has become a global phenomenon, the popular books leading to movies, merchandise and even a themed attraction apart of Universal Studios. It follows the life and tribulations of a boy named Harry Potter, who discovers he is a wizard on his tenth birthday. He is made aware of the magical world, a world hidden from normal people or "muggles" and attends a magical school known as Hogwarts. As he becomes charmed by all the whimsy and fantastic sights he sees, he learns that magic has a darker side as well as he learns about Voldermort and discovers that he is the key to defeating the dark wizard once and for all. Part of the Harry Potter series charm for a lot of people, especially those who were younger when the books were first published, was that it felt like you were growing up along with Harry. You were learning about the magical world along with him, delighted by all the amazing things it could do and frightened by the danger of it. Despite Harry's importance in the magical world he was still very much a kid, going through all the trials of tribulations of growing up like making friends, finding out who you really are and finding your place in the world. Especially when he was at Hogwarts, as we all discovered that even magical school had its ups and downs. Readers of the series became fond of so many different characters, and became less than fond as others as they experienced the book through Harry's eyes. Harry Potter
Harry Potter was a student at Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor, though the Sorting Hat had also considered him a good fit for Slytherin. He was orphaned when he was a baby when Voldermort killed his parents and tried to kill him, leaving Harry with a lightening bolt shaped scar on his forehead. He was titled as The Boy Who Lived, and credited for vanquishing the Dark Lord. He didn't know anything about who he was until his tenth birthday when he was made aware that he was a wizard and was sent to Hogwarts. At Hogwarts Harry made friends and enemies and faced off against many threats including Voldermort. With the help of his friends he finally able to destroy Voldermort once and for all. Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger was a student at Hogwarts the same time Harry Potter was and was sorted into Gryffindor. She became best friends with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley and helped Harry through many of his hardships. She is a muggle born witch, and had only learned about magic after recieving her letter from Hogwarts. Hermione is a very intelligent witch and often called the "brightest witch of her time". Ron Weasley
Ron Weasley was a student at Hogwarts in the same yeah as Harry Potter. He was sorted in Gryffindor. He became one of Harry Potter's best friends. He comes from a very large family of pure blood wizards who might not have a lot of money but they have a lot of love to give. He came to Hogwarts feeling overshadowed by the achievements of his older siblings and at times even felt some jealously over Harry because of his fame. Despite that he still stood by Harry's side and helped him through some of his darkest times, showing true bravery and loyalty. Cedric Diggory
Cedric Diggory was a student at Hogwarts around the same time as Harry Potter. He was sorted into Hufflepuff and was both an academic and athletic student. He was a Prefect and the Seeker for the Hufflepuff Qudditich team. Cedric participated in the Triwizard Tournament as Hogwarts' Champion along with Harry Potter. Despite the majority of the castle believing Harry cheated to enter into the tournament, Cedric remained kind to Harry and even gave him a hint on how to decipher the clue for the Second Task. During the third task, he and Harry decided to both take hold of the Triwizard cup, so they could both win and he was transported to the Little Hangleton graveyard, where he was hit with the Killing Curse. Arthur Weasley
Arthur Weasley was a student at Hogwarts in the 1960's and he was sorted into Gyffindor. He married Molly Prewett after graduating and had seven children with her during the First Wizarding War. He worked for the Ministry of Magic in the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office and was eventually promoted to head of the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects. Arthur joined the Order of the Phoenix during the Second Wizarding War and was apart of the Battle of Hogwarts. Arthur is a compassionate and fun loving wizard, who is fiercely protective of family. Though he was a pure-blood wizard he didn't hold any discrimination or contempt for Muggles, or any other non-pure blood. He is the father of Harry Potter's best friend Ron Weasley and a father figure to Harry himself, is he one of your favorites?
Neville Longbottom
Neville Longbottom was a student at Hogwarts when Harry Potter was and was sorted into Gryffindor. He is pure blood wizard, whose parents were well respected Aurors and members of the Order of the Phoenix. They were tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange to the point of insanity, leaving Neville in the care of his grandmother. He was often told that he wasn't living up to his parents' reputation and in the early years of his school life he was shy, clumsy and introverted. But he proved to have great courage and perseverance, standing up for his friends and what he believed was right, even in the face of danger. He was a member of Dumbledore's Army and even led it at a time while Harry was searching for horcruxes. Ginny Weasley
Ginny Weasley was a student at Hogwarts around the same time as Harry Potter and was sorted into Gryffindor. She started a year after Harry and his friends and had a very large crush on him, making her shy around him. When he entered her first year of school she found a diary that turned out to be one of Voldermort's horocruxes. He tricked and manipulated Ginny into opening the Chamber of Secrets and nearly drained her of her life force. Harry saved her and ever since then she grew more comfortable and friendly around him. In Harry's sixth year and her fifth the two started to realize they had romantic feelings for one another. Ginny joined the DA, and participated in the Battle of Hogwarts. Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy was a student at Hogwarts and in the same year as Harry Potter. He as sorted into Slytherin House. Draco was a pure blood wizard who was raised to believe in blood purity by his parents, Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. He became friends with other Slytherins and gathered a little gang, but was cruel to other students, including Harry Potter who he developed a rivalry with. He was a Seeker for his houses Qudditch team which other fueled his rivalry with Harry. In his sixth year he become a Death Eater and became quickly disillusioned about it. He helped several Death Eaters infiltrate Hogwarts and had been tasked with killing Dumbledore, though he only disarmed him and couldn't go through with killing him. At the battle of Hogwarts he and his parents defected from the Dark Lord. Draco was arrogant and a bully, though he was shown to be quick witted held loyalty to his family. Luna Lovegood
Luna Lovegood was a student at Hogwarts around the same time as Harry Potter and she was sorted into Ravenclaw. She witnessed the death of her mother when she was nine years old, as a spell her mother was working on backfired. She was teased at school for her eccentric behavior, and was given the name "Loony Luna". But she become a source of comfort and great friend to Harry and the rest. Bellatrix Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange was a student at Hogwarts in the 1960's and was sorted into Slytherin. She became a Death Eater after graduating, and become Voldermort's most loyal follower as well as one of his most dangerous ones. She was a pure-blood witch who believed in pure blood supremacy and was a sadistic and cruel witch. During the First Wizarding War, after Voldermort's fall she helped torture Alice and Frank Longbottom with the Cruciatus Curse. She was capture soon after and sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban where she remained fiercely loyal of Voldermort and waited for his return. She was broken out of Azkaban during Harry's fifth years with nine other Death Eaters . During the Battle of Hogwarts she killed her niece Nymphadora Tonks and almost killed Ginny Weasley which enraged Molly Weasley. Bellatric and Molly dueled, with Molly eventually killing Bellatrix, was Bellatrix one of your favorites?
Cho Chang
Cho Chang was a student at Hogwarts around the same time as Harry Potter. She was sorted into Ravenclaw. Harry first saw her during a Quidditch match against Ravenclaw. Cho was Ravenclaw's Seeker and Harry developed a crush on her. During the Triwizard tournament, she was one of the few people who continued to treat Harry kindly. Harry asked her to go to the Yule Ball but she turned him down, saying she already had a date. That date turned out to be Cedric Diggory. She was deeply affected by his death and it lead her to believe Harry Potter when he said Voldermort had returned and was her driving force in joining Dumbledore's army. Severus Snape
Severus Snape was a student at Hogwarts during the 1970's in the "Marauder Era". He was sorted into Slytherin. When Snape was younger he had a friendship with Lily Evans, Harry Potter's mother, and was bullied by James Potter and his friends. Snape's withdrawn and bitter personality, and his own interest in the Dark Arts cause him and Lily to have a falling out and lead him to eventually become a Death Eater. Though he defected when he learned that Lily's life was in danger and pledged his loyalty to Dumbledore, acting as a "double agent". He taught Potions at Hogwarts. Dean Thomas
Dean Thomas was a student at Hogwarts and in the same year as Harry Potter. He was sorted into Gryffindor and became one of Harry's dorm-mates and friends.He was a half-blood who believed he was a muggle born as his father left him and his mother when he was very young. His father ended being murdered by Death Eaters when he didn't join them. Dean joined Dumbledore's Army in his fifth year and he acted as Gryffindor's Chaser in his sixth year. He was on the run from the Ministry of Magic after it fell under Voldermort's control. He was captured by Snatchers and held in the basement at Malfoy Manner, and then letter rescued by Dobby along with Harry Potter and the others. He participated in the Battle of Hogwarts. Albus Dumbledore
Albus Dumbledore was a student at Hogwarts in the 1890's and he was sorted into Gryffindor. When he was young he suffered quite a few tragedies, including the death of his younger sister. These tragedies made him a better man and wizard, and made him a Muggle supporter rather than a Muggle hater. He accomplished many feats and gained many titles throughout his life, which included defeating the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. He also became the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was a mentor towards Harry Potter and a lot of other witches and wizards. He was the only wizard whom Voldermort feared and Dumbledore was openly and actively against Voldermort and his dark forces. He was killed by Severus Snape, but even after his death all of his carefully laid plans and manipulations helped in the ultimate defeat of Voldermort. Fred Weasley
Fred Weasley was a student at Hogwarts around the same time as Harry Potter, along with his twin brother George. He was a pure blood wizard sorted into Gryffindor. He, along with his brother enjoyed pulling pranks and were the Beaters for the Gryffindor Qudditich team. He was apart of Dumbledore's Army and when Umbridge became the headmaster of the school they dropped out and started their own business, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. He fought in the Battle of Hogwarts but was killed in an explosion. Fred was the more daring and sarcastic twin, and could be very callous with his pranks when it came to people he disliked.But he could be very compassionate at times. George Weasley
George Weasley was a student at Hogwarts around the same time as Harry Potter and he was sorted into Gryffindor. He along with his twin brother Fred enjoyed playing tricks on other students and even their family. He was a pure blood wizard but he and his family didn't believe in "pure blood elitism" like other pure blood families did. He was a beater for his House's Quidditch team and he was apart of Dumbledore's Army and participated during the Battle of Hogwarts, where he lost his brother Fred. Sirius Black
Sirius Black was a student at Hogwarts in the 1970's during the "Marauder Era". He was sorted into Gryffindor. Sirius was a pure blood wizard and came from a once notable pure blood family who believed in pure blood elitism. But Sirius didn't hold those same beliefs and rebelled against his family, and became friends with James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. During the First Wizarding War he was apart of the Order of the Phoenix and fought against Voldermort along side his friends. He was named Harry Potter's godfather, and was falsely imprisoned in Azkaban for the actions done by Peter Pettigrew. Hagrid
Rubeus Hagrid was a student at Hogwarts in the 1940's and was sorted into Gryffindor. In his third year he was framed by Tom Riddle for opening the Chamber of Secrets and and he was expelled and had his wand snapped. However Dumbledore requested that he'd be allowed to live on the castle grounds and be trained to be a grounds keeper. He was apart of the Order of the Phoenix and he rescued Harry from the rubble of his house after his parents were killed. He also introduced Harry to the wizarding world when he was ten and become a very dear friend to him. He eventually got a teaching position as the professor for Care of Magical Creatures. Horace Slughorn
Horace Slughorn was a former student at Hogwarts who eventually went on to be the professor for Potions and Slytherin's Head of House. While he was a professor at Hogwarts he liked to "collect" students he found talented, clever or well connected and invited them to join his Slug Club. One of these students was Tom Riddle, who he one day taught about horocruxes, which Riddle used to split his soul into seven pieces, enabling him to keep himself from dying. Once Slughorn found out that Tom Riddle was Voldermort he went into hiding, ashamed that he gave him such information and afraid that Voldermort's Death Eaters would come after him. He was coaxed into returning to teach at Hogwarts by Dumbledore, baiting him with the chance to recruit Harry for his Slug Club. James Potter
James Potter was a student at Hogwarts during the 1970's during the "Marauder Era" and was sorted into Gryffindor. He came from a wealthy pure blood family, the only son to an older couple. Because of this he was pampered and grew up arrogant, though he had a good heart. He became friends with Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew and developed an intense rivalry with Severus Snape, taking any moment he could to bully and hex him. He also developed a crush of Lily Evans, who at first had no interest in him, but after her falling out with Snape and seeing more of James, she started to fall in love with him. They married after they graduated and had Harry, and drew the attention and ire of Voldermort when they refused to join him and actively fought against him. Lavender Brown
Lavender Brown was a student at Hogwarts the same year as Harry Potter and sorted into Gryffindor. She was best friends with Parvati Patil, and the both of them had a love for Divination and was fond of the Divination professor as well. She joined Dumbledore's Army in her fifth year and in her sixth year she dated Ron Weasley for awhile until they broke up. Remus Lupin
Remus Lupin was a student at Hogwarts during the 1970's in the "Marauder Era". He was sorted into Gryffindor and became friends with James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. When Lupin was young he was attacked by a werewolf and transformed into one. Because of the stigma of "dark creatures" such as himself he was very cautious and secretive of his ailment when he was invited to study at Hogwarts. His friends eventually learned his secret and became Animagus to keep him company and ease the pain of his transformations. Because of that he become very loyal and protective of his friends, even when they did things that weren't exactly the "right" thing to do. He was devastated by the lost of James and Lily Potter and when he became a teacher at Hogwarts he had a fondness for their son, Harry, even teaching him the patronus spell to help him again dementors. Lily Potter
Lily Potter, originally Lily Evan, was a student at Hogwarts during the 1970's, during the "Marauder Era". She was a muggle born witch and had become friends with Severus Snape, who one day saw her doing magic when they were children. Her friendship would not last with Snape, as he fell further into Dark Magic and one day insulted her, calling her a "mudblood". She broke her friendship with him and started seeing James Potter, who she eventually married and had a child with. Lily was apart of the Order of the Phoenix and fought against Voldermort and his forces, until she was ultimately killed by the dark wizard. Lucious Malfoy
Lucius Malfoy was a student at Hogwarts in 1965 and was sorted into Slytherin. He was from a wealthy pure blood family who believed in pure blood elitism. After he graduated he married Narcissa Black and together they had a son named Draco Malfoy. He joined the Dark Lord as one of his Death Eaters sometime during the First Wizarding War. After Voldermort's apparent defeat, Lucius avoided being sent to Azkaban by pleading his innocence and saying he was put under the Imperius Curse. Minerva McGonagall was a student at Hogwarts in the 1940's and she was sorted in Gryffinder. She went on to become the professor for Transfiguration and the Head of Department for Hogwarts. She participated in the first Wizarding War, fighting against Voldermort. Before Harry was placed with the Dursleys she observed them, and had some objections about leaving him in their care. She welcomes the new students to Hogwarts and guides them through the Sorting Ceremony. McGonagall was very loyal to Dumbledore and always believed that his decisions were for the greater good. Molly Weasley was a student at Hogwarts in the 1960's and he was sorted into Gryffindor. After she graduated she married Arthur Weasley and had seven children with him. She wasn't apart of the original Order of the Phoenix, but her two brothers were and they were murdered during the First Wizarding War. Molly was a very loving and protective mother, though she didn't hesitate to try and discipline her children when they did wrong. She became a mother figure to Harry Potter as she was always kind to him and treated him like one of her own. Narcissa Malfoy
Narcissa Malfoy was a student at Hogwarts sometime in the late sixties and early seventies and she was sorted into Slytherin. She married her husband Lucius Malfoy after she graduated and they soon had a son, Draco Malfoy. Narcissa came from the Black family which believed in pure blood elitism. Her and her husband held the same ideals and raised their son with those ideals, though she wasn't a Death Eater herself. She went along with her husband's schemes, until he was sent to Azkaban. Nymphadora Tonks
Nymphadora Tonks, or as she was more wildly known as, Tonks was a student in the 1980's and was sorted into Hufflepuff. She is apart of the Black family, though she and her mother were disowned after her mother married a muggle born named Ted Tonks. She became an Auror after leaving Hogwarts. Her natural metamorphic abilities helped her with certain aspects of being an Auror, but her clumisness nearly kept her back. She was a member of the Order of the Phenoix and fell in love with Remus Lupin, marrying him and having a child with him. Padma Patil
Padma Patil was a student at Hogwarts the same time as Harry Potter and she was sorted into Ravenclaw. She has a sister named Parvati who was sorted into Gryffindor and they were often seen together outside of their dorms. She was the more responsible and studious of the twins, having been sorted into Ravenclaw and becoming a Prefect. She also joined the DA and participated in the Battle of Hogwarts. Blaise Zabini
Blaise Zabini was a student at Hogwarts the same year as Harry Potter and was sorted into Slytherin. He was a friend of Draco Malfoy and his gang and was a pure-blood wizard. He was prejudiced against Muggle-borns and "blood traitors", but it is unknown if his family had any ties to Death Eaters. It is assumed they did not, as he was invited to join the Slug Club, created by Professor Slughorn, who wanted nothing to do with Death Eaters. His mother was described as being a famously beautiful witch who had been widowed seven times, each husband's death occurring under suspicious circumstances and leaving he and his mother lots of money. Angelina Johnson
Angelina Johnson was a Gyffindor student at Hogwarts and attended school the same year Fred and George Wesley did. She was popular and friendly and was on the Qudditch team, as Gyffindor's Chaser. She and Fred Weasley went to the Yule Ball together, and she became the Gyffindor Qudditch captain in her seventh year becoming just as hard driven as the previous captain Oliver Woods had been. She was also apart of Dumbledore's Army and she fought in the Battle of Hogwarts. She eventually went on to marry George Weasley and had two children with him. Parvati Patil
Parvati Patil was a student at Hogwarts the same time as Harry Potter and she was sorted into Gryffindor. She had a sister named Padma who was sorted into Ravenclaw. She was the less serious of the twins, and enjoyed gossiping and talking about fashion with her best friend Lavender Brown. She went with Harry to the Yule Ball and got annoyed when he spent most of the night staring at Cho Chang. She joined the DA and participated at the Battle of Hogwarts. Percy Weasley
Percy Weasley was a student at Hogwarts and he was sorted in Gryffindor. Percy, unlike the rest of his brothers, was more a stickler for following the rules and staying out of trouble. He was a Prefect and would often get onto his siblings and Harry and company for breaking the rules. When he graduated he worked for the Ministry and eventually became the Junior Assistant to the Minister or Magic. He has a strong loyalty to the Ministry of Magic, which caused some conflict between him and his family. However when Voldermort took control of the Ministry of magic, Percy saw the truth of what was going on and reconciled with his family, joining them in the Battle of Hogwarts. Peter Pettigrew
Peter Pettigrew was a student at Hogwarts during the 1970's and in the "Marauder Era". He was sorted into Gryffindor and was original best friends with James Potter, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin. He along with his friends became Animagus to stay with Lupin during his werewolf transformations at the full moon. At some point, fearing for his life and wanting power, he secretly switched over to Voldermort's side, giving up the location of James, Lily and their son Harry. He was confronted by Sirius and caused an explosion that killed several muggles and managed to slip away in his Animagus form, putting all the blame on Sirius. Tom Marvolo Riddle was a student at Hogwarts in the late 1930's. He was sorted into Slytherin. He would later become a powerful dark wizard, taking on the name Lord Voldermort for himself.
