Not all car parts are made equally, just ask any gearhead out there! There are also hundreds of different things to choose from in order to get the vehicle performing at its peak. Some folks only add the best of the best after market parts to make their vehicle but others take whatever they can get in order to achieve the same effect.
Modifying one's car can be a terrifying experience if it's never been done before, but if it's been a hobby for years then this is child's play! Also, upgrading a car is no longer something that is gender specific or even age specific. There are men and women out there that are competing with the most extraordinary and well known celebs out there.
There are some few basic upgrades that can be done to a car, these included changing the suspension, exhaust system, break system and even the clutch itself! Every part in, or on, the car will make an impact on the performance as well. If one is going for looks, then weight management and speed will not be a priority. However, if speed is the way to go then all of these factors come in to play.
Exhaust system
Every car has an exhaust system. After all, it is a vital part of the vehicle's system. In essence, the exhaust pipe is there to remove gasses from the engine outside. In addition to that, these pips must be heat resistant since everything gets hot when the car is running.
Suspension
A car's suspension has a few important roles. It helps with the ride and feel of the vehicle and also prevents wear and tear on the car's parts from carrying a load. The suspension also plays a role in the handling and braking of the car in question. Is this a part worth modifying?
Racing tires
Believe it or not, tires make a huge difference on cars. This is not only in terms of looks, but also in terms of comfort. Tires come in various different sizes and one can even get them with a white wall down the side. Upgrading tires can improve dry handling as well as speed.
Light weight wheels
We have already mentioned that what a car weighs will drastically impact its performance. The heavier it is the slower it will go. This is not ideal if pushing a best lap time. Light weight wheels are ideal when trying to remove some extra weight from an awesome piece of machinery.
Racing transmision / gear box
Every car needs a gearbox... This is a vital part of the machine's workings. Without it, or if it breaks, the car is not going to be going anywhere. This is something that can also be modified if the driver or owner sees fit. Some folks would happily leave the gear box as is, then again, some wouldn't.
Racing handbrake / E brake
A handbrake is another vital car part. Of course, we don't need cars rolling about randomly in the streets so this is fairly important. For the sake of modifying one's vehicle, this may be a nice change in the racing game, Of course, it would be way more effective in the racing world than day-to-day driving.
Role cage
So a role cage is needed with some crazy racing but this is not a mod one can put on an everyday car. It's just not something that is very practical. If the car is being used for intense racing purposes, then this is an absolute must when upgrading a vehicle. Is this something to consider?
Bucket seats
Who doesn't enjoy the comfy feel of a bucket seat wrapped around them? Well, this is the perfect car mod then! These seats come in various shapes, sizes and colors too. These add character and comfort for the driver. This might not be ideal for a long distance road trip though.
Five-point racing harness
When we say 'five-point harness' we are not referring to the harness one would find in a baby car seat. We are referring to the harness one would add to a vehicle for racing purposes. This is something that is mostly used for safety purposes and is a must in some race cars.
Custom fuel tank / fuel cell
Sometimes the standard fuel tank of a car is just not enough to match the needs of the driver. But never fear, for there are custom fuel tanks which can always be arranged if needed. This can help decrease the weight of a car and in some cases this can be used to increase the volume of fuel carried.
Quick release steering wheel
This is not the kind of steering found in every day cars. Rather, these were found in race cars. The quick release allows for easy access in and out of the car. That being said though, these steering have become more and more popular in basic vehicles. The question is, is it a mod worth picking?
Racing cams
Upgrading a standard camshaft to a racing cam is all fair and well, but it does come with a sacrifice. Although a racing cam will allow for increased power at high speeds, it will be nearly impossible to idle at a low speed. Is this a sacrifice worth making to modify a car?
Racing flywheel
Again, it comes down to the speed of a vehicle. And to achieve the best possible speed one needs to do what can be done in order to lower the weight of the car. In this case, a lightweight racing fly wheel may be an option to consider. Is this a part that would be on the top of the list to improve though?
Forged pistons
The manufacturing technique is the difference between standard pistons and forged pistons. Forged pistons are more durable than standard ones and they can be customized much easier. Of course, these will also come at a price when compared to the stock pistons.
Gas Flowed Cylinder Head
To begin with, cylinder heads are basically works with the intake and exhaust points of the engine to improve air flow. Initially, the standard cylinders don't really allow for much and they are actually not ideal in terms of racing or pushing the car to its limits. A customized one will allow for peak performance.
Custom valves
All valves may appear equal, but ask any racer or car enthusiast, they'll confirm that some valves are more equal than others! After market parts are always going to be designed to improve the performance of a vehicle. Though, add the wrong after market part and it could do damage.
Racing clutch
Every car needs a clutch to swiftly navigate between gears. This can be made up of the plate and cable. In essence, the word clutch means to 'grip'. Basically this item works to engage and disengage transmission of a manual car. This is a vital part to consider when enhancing the performance of a vehicle.
Balanced crankshaft
The crankshaft balancing cannot be viewed in isolation. To understand the concept of balancing this one must understand the purpose of the counterweights. In essence, they are designed to balance the weight of the pistons and rods. It's all pretty complex balancing act, but a motor head understands!
Upgraded brake system
Having a super fast and maxed out car is all fair and well, but when those high speeds are imminent, a good braking system is not negotiable. The ability to stop this vehicle needs to go hand in hand with how quickly it can bolt down a track. An average braking system just won't cut it.
Carbon fiber body kit
Not only is carbon fiber easy on the eyes, it is also very light weight. This is ideal when looking to drop weight of a high performance vehicle. Some folks will replace only one or two parts of their car with this, but others will go all the way with a full body kit. Which of these is the most ideal option to consider?
Carbon hood
As we mentioned, some folks will replace as much as possible when it comes to using carbon fiber. Other people will only replace a few different parts. In this question the option only refers to the hood of the car. Is this an upgrade or modification to consider?
Carbon spoiler
What about a carbon fiber spoiler? This modification is not everyone's cup of tea, but luckily variety is the spice of life! Things are never boring with all these different options to choose from. Some folks actually prefer no spoiler whatsoever. And then again, other's say the bigger the better!
Custom airflow system
How air is brought in and out of an engine is important when aiming to hit that peak performance mark. Too much air can be a problem, and too little can also create havoc. Would a custom airflow system be worth the effort? Or are external aesthetic mods the way to go?
Racing chip
Racing chips are not standard with every vehicle... Go figure! But that doesn't mean that they can't be added as an after market part... What is also nice is that some of these chips are fairly easy to insert and remove or just switch on and off. There are some that may be a little more complex though.
Carbon front splitter
Yes, this is a thing. Something that adds aesthetic value and also helps to improve the weight of the car itself. It's not a mod most folks may consider but it is a fairly unique and interesting item to consider. If this is the way to go, select the answer below!
Fuel management system
This is a vital part of every car as well. Without fuel, it won't be going anywhere in a hurry. The fuel system can be enhanced when performance and speed are the ultimate goals. If it is just having something pretty to look at, then this mod may be kind of pointless.
Rear carbon diffuser
This is another after market modification which can be added to enhance a car's rear end. The shape of the diffuser influences the aerodynamics or the car itself. It enhances the way that air moves underneath the car. Again, the is something that can be used for both speed and looks.
Polyurethane bushes
The suspension of any car will take a beating over its life span. The bushes are a part of this system which become highly stressed over time. They can be replaced with polyurethane bushes. This will also help to improve the overall aspect of the car's handling. This mod also requires no maintenance or lubrication.
Downpipe
The exhaust down pipe is basically a pipe which connects the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. This is just one part of the exhaust system. This pipe is important because it is at the manifold. Also, the gas flow speed is highest at the exhaust port, and slows down as the gas cools towards the end of the pipe.
Upgraded turbo
There's nothing like the sound and feel of an upgraded turbo kicking while racing down the strip. Although this mod isn't really for aesthetic value, the sound and pull one gets from a car with this upgrade is really value for money. This is a popular upgrade in most car games as well.
Front mount intercooler
Let's first explain that an intercooler can also be known as a charge-air cooler. This is a more expensive mod to consider,. It's often used on cars that have been turbocharged. Simply put, the air temperature is adjusted after flowing through here. It's a well known fact that an over heating car is a big problem...
Custom front lights
Upgrading a car for visual pleasure can also include upgrading the front lights to something a little more exciting. These lights can come in various shapes, colors and even sizes. Ideally the part should add value but also match the car's look. Is this external mod a good one?
Custom rear lights
If one updates the front light, would it be necessary to bother with the rear lights? There's never any pressure to do any kind of mod to one's car. This is completely voluntary. Hence the choices are listed below to select from. Some may invest in more expensive rear lights for the loser to look at when they get left behind.
Camber brackets
The camber brackets influence the angle at which the car turns and at which the body leans. If not done correctly, this can be detrimental to the driver and vehicle. This is because if the tire looses traction it won't be able to grip the road. This after market product can come in an adjustable bracket as well.
Custom wheel nuts
These wheel nuts will certainly make a statement, hopefully the right one! These can either be left stock or upgrade to have heads turning. These can also be found in various different colors to match the rest of the car. Alternatively, one could rather invest the money for these in another cool mod.
