Anyone who is a fan of video games will definitely know that there are a lot of them out there. There are so many different ways to play video games from handheld consoles to home consoles and even on a person's gaming computer. On top of having so many different platforms on which games can be played, there has been a massive amount of games that have been released in the past few decades for all these consoles. It seems like new games that we just can't wait to get our hands on are being released or announced all the time for the different consoles. If it's not a new game coming out, then remasters of old games that were available on a console in the past are coming out or sequels to games that we played and loved are being announced. It can actually get pretty hard sometimes to try to figure out what to play next.
With so many awesome games coming out and so many great games in our collections that definitely deserve more attention and to be played again, it can be more than a little difficult for a gamer to decide what game they want to load up and dive into next.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a multiplayer FPS game and is the 15th game to be released in the Call of Duty series. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 was released in 2018 on the PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. Unlike previous Call of Duty games, this game doesn't actually have a single player campaign mode, instead it allows players to play in a mode known as Solo Missions Mode in which they play as the different Specialists in the game through various quests and missions.
The Last of Us
The Last of Us is an action survival game from 2013 that was released exclusively for PlayStation consoles. In this game, the players control a smuggler named Joel who is tasked with guiding a teenage girl named Ellie who appears to be immune to the zombie virus that has swept the face of the Earth across the country. Through the game, players have to choose to either go up against the zombies they encounter or try to use their stealth to sneak around them.
Fortnite
Fortnite is an online game with several different game modes. The most popular of them is the free-to-play Fortnite Battle Royale in which a huge group of players come together and use their materials in the game to build across the map and try to survive until the end of the game and find themselves as the very last person alive on the map. According to Wikipedia, Fortnite Battle Royale found itself with over 10 million players after only two weeks of it being released.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
This game is the fifth game in the Super Smash Bros. series, a series of games that feature characters from a whole host of Nintendo games that come together to battle it out in different locations. This game was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2018. Players can unlock different characters by playing through battles against other characters and winning them. Some of the characters in this game include Isabelle from Animal Crossing, Princess Peach from the Mario Franchise, and Link from The Legend of Zelda.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn is an action roleplaying game that was released in 2017. In the game, players control the main character, Aloy, who is a hunter that has to try to survive her way around the post-apocalyptic world in which the game is set. The game is set far into the future after society has changed in a major way and regressed back to the times before a lot of technology and cities were formed. Much of the Earth has also been taken over by huge, robotic creatures.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the most recent console release in the Animal Crossing series of games. In this game, the player controls a customized character that they create in which they move to a town populated with anthropomorphic animals. In this town, the character is the mayor who has to work to improve the town by adding things like public works projects and completing goals to open new stores on the town's main street as they befriend the animals and explore the town.
Arms
Arms is a fighting game that was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. Unlike other similar games, this game has players choose one of several different characters who then go up against one another using their extendable arms, or in the case of one character her hair, to take each other out. In the year that this game was released, it was nominated for several different game awards (Wikipedia). According to Wikipedia, the game sold over two million copies within a year of it being released.
Just Dance 2019
Just Dance 2019 is the latest in the series of rhythm based games that have been released by Ubisoft since 2009. The title of the game franchise is a reference to the Lady Gaga song that was popular during the time that these games began to be released. There are several different games in this series that each have a selection of songs that were popular when the game was released and the player uses the motion controls on their console in order to mimic the dance moves of the character on screen as the song plays.
LEGO The Incredibles
Video games that are based on movies are definitely nothing new. This game is one of the many LEGO games that is based on a movie and is based on both of Disney's movies The Incredibles and its sequel, The Incredibles 2. This game features different puzzles that the player has to solve and features characters from the Pixar movie that this game is based on, including both the superhero family and the villains from the movie and the player can choose to control a variety of different characters.
Hello Neighbor
Hello Neighbor is a super spooky stealth game that makes the player sneak their way from their own home across the street into their neighbor's home. Once there, they have to find their way through traps into the basement of their neighbor's home to try to uncover a secret that is in that basement. But they have to be careful because their neighbor definitely does not want them going down there and might hear or see them sneaking around in their home.
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey is a game that was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2017 and is one of the games in the massive Mario franchise. This game is super similar to other Mario games in that the player controls the title character in order to travel through the various worlds in the game to save Princess Peach from the villain of the series, Bowser. According to Wikipedia, Super Mario Odyssey has sold over 12 million copies and is one of the best-selling games on the Nintendo Switch.
Detroit: Become Human
Detroit: Become Human is an adventure game that was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2018. This game has three main characters who are all androids who have very different stories. The player makes choices throughout the game that have a huge impact on the way that the story of the game plays out. The androids in the game include Kara, Connor, and Markus. Kara escaped from her owner and is learning to be a sentient being, Connor's job is to hunt sentient androids, and Markus wishes to release all androids from being servants.
Fallout 76
Fallout 76 is a multiplayer action roleplaying game that was released in 2018 on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Players can choose to ether play alone or with a group up of to three other players in order to explore the open world in the game, called Appalachia, which is based off of the landscape of West Virginia. As the player levels up throughout the game, they're given points that they can apply to different perks and character attributes to help their character survive better.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a collection of remastered versions of the original Spyro games Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon which are the first three games in the original Spyro series. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy was released in 2018 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The original games were released in the late 1990s and the remasters add more detail to the graphics to bring them up to date. The games received a score of 82/100 on Metacritic for each of the two platforms.
Nintendo Labo
Nintendo Labo is a really unique gaming and building system released by Nintendo for their Nintendo Switch console. It was released in April of 2018 and has different kits that come with cardboard pieces that can be used to build different things like a miniature motorcycle or piano. The player can build these things with the pieces provided and then combine them with their Nintendo Switch in order to play different interactive games that work with the cardboard structure they built.
Overwatch
Overwatch is a multiplayer FPS that was released on several different platforms in 2016. The game is available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Players join a team of six players and choose one of nearly 30 different players, known as Heroes, to battle against another team of six players. The players work together in order to secure different parts of the map from the other team and can earn character skins, victory poses, and other cosmetic prizes for winning matches throughout the game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released in 2017 as the latest game in The Legend of Zelda game series which released its very first game back in 1986 on the NES. This game was released on the Nintendo Switch and, according to Metacritic, was the highest rated game of 2017 with a score of 97/100. This game features the main character of the series, Link, as he battles against different creatures and completes tasks in order to regain his memories and save Hyrule.
The Sims 4
The Sims 4 is the fourth main game in the life simulation series The Sims. This game was released in 2014 and is available on both Mac and PC as well as on game consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Like the other games in The Sims franchise, The Sims 4 is a life simulation game in which the player can create a new character or play as one of the premade characters and control their life. There are several expansions that can be purchased that add things like pets and a fame system.
Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5 is the fifth main game in Ubisoft's Far Cry series. The game is set in the fictional location of Hope County in southwestern Montana. In the game, the player controls a law enforcement officer who was tasked with traveling to Hope County in order to arrest Joseph Seed, the leader of an extremist group that has taken over the area. When the mission doesn't succeed, the player finds themselves trapped in Hope County and has to complete various missions in order to defeat Joseph Seed.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Kart is a classic party game for friends to come together and race against each other. The game features a ton of different characters from different Nintendo franchises that the players can choose from and then customize the vehicle they want to drive and race in different modes across different courses. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and features characters like Isabelle from Animal Crossing, Rosalina and Bowser from the Mario series, and others.
Minecraft
Minecraft is an open world, sandbox-style video game that was first released in 2011 and is now available on just about every video game system that a person might want to play it on, including PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and 4, Nintendo Switch, and Wii U, among others. It can be played in single player or with others online and players can use custom maps or play in a randomly generated world in which they have to collect resources and survive against the creatures in the game.
State of Decay 2
State of Decay 2 is a game that was released on the PC and Xbox One in 2018 and is a sequel to the 2013 video game State of Decay. This game is a zombie survival game in which the player controls a survivor in the post-apocalyptic landscape who meets other survivors and works together with them in order to build a community, gather supplies, and complete missions to help other people as they take out infestations and try to eliminate the zombie plague.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure game that is the sequel to the 2015 game Rise of the Tomb Raider and is the 12 main game in the Tomb Raider series. This game was released in 2018 on various platforms, including the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and others. This game follows the main character of the Tomb Raider series, Lara Croft, as she travels through the jungle to try to stop a Mayan apocalypse as she completes missions and explores tombs.
Until Dawn
Until Dawn is a game that was released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4. It follows a group of friends who traveled to a remote cabin in the mountains in order to spend time together one year after the disappearance of two of their other friends. The player controls each character at different times and has to make choices that will influence the way future events happen in the game. The ending of the game is different for everyone who plays, depending on the choices they made throughout the game.
Overcooked 2
Overcooked 2 is a coop game that was released on various platforms including the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Mac, and PC. The game puts two to four players together in teams in order to complete cooking-based missions in different settings. The players have to work together in order to chop up, cook, plate, and serve dishes while various obstacles like moving floors, fires, and moving walkways make completing their objectives difficult for the players. Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure game that was released for the Xbox One in 2018. In this game, players control a pirate who is sailing around either by themselves or as a crew in a multiplayer game with up to three of their friends. The game allows players to travel through an open-world environment on their pirate ship to complete quests and explore the world in order to collect money. The game has an open-world format which means they can encounter other players during their adventure.
Pokémon Sun and Moon
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are the first two games in the seventh generation of the Pokémon series. This pair of games is set in the brand new Alola region, a tropical region that introduced several new Pokémon to fans. New Pokémon from Generation VII include some Pokémon like Drampa, Comfey, Silvally, Pyukumuku, and some Alola region specific versions of previous Pokémon which become Ice-type Pokémon in this region, like Alolan Vulpix and Sandshrew. Like previous games in the franchise, it allows the players to explore the region to catch and train their Pokémon.
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is an indie farming simulation game that was released on the PC in 2016 and was then released on other consoles and platforms for the next to years. The game follows as the player inherits their late grandfather's farm in a small town called Pelican Town and then moves to the farm in order to improve it. The game allows the player to befriend and even eventually marry different characters in the town as they work to improve their farm season by season.
Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure game that was released in 2013 and is available on several different consoles including PC, Xbox 360 and One, and PlayStation 3 and 4. The game features a story mode or an online mode which can be played with other people and is completely open world, allowing players to complete missions in the form of jobs and heists or to just explore the enormous fictional city of Los Santos and all of its surroundings.
Slime Rancher
Slime Rancher is a first person life simulation game that was released as an early access game in 2016 and was officially released on PC, Mac, and Xbox One in 2017 before being released on PlayStation 4 in 2018. In this game, the player controls a character named Beatrix LeBeau who moved to a planet far, far from Earth in order to start a ranch in which they collect, breed, and care for bouncy round creatures called slimes which come in a ton of different species.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was originally released in 2000 on the Nintendo 64 and was re-released on the GameCube in 2003 when Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. In 2015, a remastered version was released for the Nintendo 3DS. This game is the sixth major game in The Legend of Zelda franchise and is set in Termina, an alternative reality version of Hyrule which is the kingdom featured in most other Legend of Zelda games. The player controls Link who needs to save an ancient artifact that was stolen in order to save Termina.
Sonic Mania Plus
Sonic Mania Plus was released in 2018 for various game consoles like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One as well as the PC. This game is an expanded version of the side-scrolling platformer game Sonic Mania. Sonic Mania Plus is like other games in the Sonic series in that it features Sonic the Hedgehog traveling through the world in order to beat his nemesis. This expanded version of Sonic Mania adds Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel as playable characters.
Forza Horizon 4
Forza Horizon 4 is an open-world racing game that was released in 2018 on the Xbox One and on Microsoft Windows. Forza Horizon 4 is the 11th game in the Forza series and is notably different from previous installments in this racing game series because of the fact that, as the player goes through the game, the seasons change from spring to summer to fall to winter, just like the seasons change in real life. The game features over 400 cars and allows players to play on servers that support up to 72 players (Wikipedia).
Outlast
Outlast is a super spooky first person survival game that was released in 2013 on PC and was then released on other consoles and platforms in 2014 through 2018 and is now available on a whole host of them including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game follows a freelance journalist named Miles Upshur who travels to Colorado to investigate and write a piece about Mount Massive Asylum, a dilapidated psychiatric hospital to find out about what went wrong within its walls.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was originally released on Nintendo's Wii U system in 2014 but was then brought to the Nintendo Switch in 2018. This game is the fifth major game in the Donkey Kong Country series, a game series that started as a spin-off series from the Donkey Kong games, the first of which was the first game to ever have Mario in it, even before Super Mario Bros (Wikipedia). This game is a side-scrolling platformer game in which the character travels through six different islands.
Undertale
Undertale is a roleplaying game that was released in 2014 on a whole host of different platforms including PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch as well as PC and Mac. Undertale has a super retro art style and is a top-down game that allows the player to make choices that will heavily impact the way that the story plays out. The player encounters monsters and other creatures throughout their time in the game and the player can choose to go up against them or befriend them.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series and is an action-roleplaying game in which the player creates a character and can level up various skills through doing quests and traveling around the open world. Even though there is a main story and main quests within the game, this game is one with a massively open world that allows the player to do whatever they want as they complete side quests and travel around the world at their own pace.
BioShock Infinite
BioShock Infinite is an FPS game that has some roleplaying game elements that was released in 2013 on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. This game is the third one that has been released in the BioShock series but is not a direct sequel to the previous games. The game is set in 1912 and the player controls Booker, a former Pinkerton agent who is tasked with traveling to a floating, steampunk-inspired fictional city called Columbia in order to save a woman named Elizabeth.
Injustice 2
Injustice 2 is a video game that was released on both video game consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as mobile phones in 2017. The game features characters from the DC Comics world as well as some other franchises for a total of 28 characters that can be played. Some of the characters include Aquaman, Bane, Catwoman, Enchantress, Harley Quinn, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The game features one-on-one battles between two of the different characters.

Even though Minecraft is a super open-world game that has no real story and allows the player to do absolutely anything they want, Minecraft: Story Mode is different. It features the same art style as Minecraft and features a Minecraft world, this game features a character named Jesse who sets out to find The Order of the Stone, a group of adventurers who legend claims saved the Minecraft world. The character can be customized by the player and the player's choices impact the way the story plays out.
Just Cause 4
Just Cause 4 is an action-adventure game that was released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018. This game is the fourth in the Just Cause series and is the sequel to the 2015 game, Just Cause 3. In Just Cause 4, the player controls the main character, Rico Rodriguez, and travels throughout the game's open-world setting in order to complete quests and missions. In the game, Rico Rodriguez is traveling through a fictional country called Solís looking for information about his late father's life.
Destiny 2
Destiny 2 is an online multiplayer FPS game that was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017 as a sequel to the 2014 game, Destiny. In the game, the player controls a Guardian. Guardians are people who protect the Last City from alien invasions. The players are able to choose a class for their character. Classes include Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans, each of which has specific strengths. Throughout the game, the players are able to gain experience points in order to improve their character.
Luigi's Mansion
Luigi's Mansion is an action-adventure game that was first released on the GameCube in 2001 but was re-released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2018. According to Wikipedia, this game is one of the best-selling GameCube games with over 2.5 million copies sold since its release in 2001. The game follows as Luigi, one of the characters from the Mario franchise, wins a mansion in a contest that he didn't actually enter and travels to the mansion in order to explore the rooms and find the ghosts within it.
LEGO Jurassic World
This game is one that was released on various different game consoles in 2015 as well as on mobile phone devices in 2016. It's available on the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. This game is similar to many other LEGO video games in that it has the player solve different puzzles. Players can choose to control a ton of different characters that are unlocked by playing through the open-world setting of the game.
Subnautica
Subnautica is a survival adventure game that has an open-world setting that allows players to explore and play however they want. The goal is to collect supplies and try to survive in the water of the alien planet on which this game is set. Subnautica was released on Mac and PC platforms as well as on game consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2018 after being an early access game that could be downloaded in 2015. The game received a Metacritic score of 87/100.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a compilation of platform video games. This game isn't a new version of the classic Crash Bandicoot games but is instead a remastered collection of the first three games in the Crash Bandicoot series Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back and Warped. The first game, Crash Bandicoot, was released in 1996 on the original PlayStation. The gameplay and story are the same as the original games and feature Crash Bandicoot and his sister, Coco, traveling through different levels to take down Doctor Neo Cortex.
Splatoon 2
Splatoon 2 is a game that was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. According to Wikipedia, the game sold over seven million copies during its first year of release and has become one of the best-selling games released for the Nintendo Switch. The game has both an online multiplayer mode in which players can go head-to-head up against each other and a single player story mode. Players control a character called an Inkling and try to cover the map in their color of ink.
Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World is an action-roleplaying game that was released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018. It's part of the Monster Hunter series, the first game in which was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. The game is a third-person game with an open-world setting in which the player takes on the role of a Hunter. The player is tasked with traveling around the area in which the game is set, a monster-infested land known as the New World, in order to take down and bring back large monsters.
Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is a 2D video game that was released in 2017 on PC and then in 2018 on video game consoles including the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. According to Wikipedia, this game got its start on Kickstarter where it had funded over $40,000 in 2014. The player controls an insect-like knight who travels through the world of Hallownest. The player can battle against enemies up close using its sword or from far away by casting spells in their direction.
Pokkén Tournament DX
Pokkén Tournament is a game that was released on the Wii U in 2016 and on the Nintendo Switch in 2017. This game takes its gameplay style from the Tekken series and applies them to a variety of different playable characters from the Pokémon franchise. Players use a variety of different Pokémon in order to go up against each other to see who can come out of the head-to-head battle on top. Some of the playable Pokémon include Aegislash, Charizard, Gengar, Mewtwo, Pikachu, and Weavile.
