Today we're here to pose a very important question — what qualities makes a leading man? We all have those favorite actors that cross our mind or show up on our television and movie screens from time to time because we enjoy their work or simply like looking at them, but does it come down to more than just having a pretty face?
It has to, right? A true leading man has to possess some decent acting abilities in order to continually get cast because no matter how shallow we like to think Hollywood is, there has to be some acting chops to back up one's work in order to keep getting those coveted roles.
Also, does one stop being thought of as a leading man if they stop doing work for a little while? Think of George Clooney, for example. We haven't really seen him on screen in something for a few years now and yet, he's still a lot of people's first thought when they're asked to name a leading man.
Ryan Gosling
From The Notebook all the way up to La La Land or playing Neil Armstrong in First Man, Ryan Gosling will always be one of the most handsome actors around. And even though he's super talented and so nice to look at, he still manages to have this boy-next-door quality about him as well.
Chris Hemsworth
Chris Hemsworth may not be your favorite Hemsworth brother as Liam is also pretty awesome, but you must admit that he's certainly brought a special something to the character of Thor in the Marvel movies. Plus, with those broad shoulders and biceps, it's kind of like he was made to play that role.
Mark Ruffalo
Speaking of men in the Marvel universe, Mark Ruffalo is another leading man who tends to make us swoon. The really great thing about him as an actor though is that he swings back and forth so nicely between genres. He can do drama, comedy, thrillers all on the same level.
Robert Pattinson
We have a very serious question for everyone. What are your thoughts on Robert Pattinson being cast as the next Batman? Because we kind of think with how he perfected that smoldering stare in the Twilight movies, he'd actually do okay in this role. Do you pick or pass on leading man Robert Pattinson?
Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal will always be that tall, dark and handsome actor who can do just about any role due to his commitment to the craft and ability to transform at a moment's notice. We've seriously loved him in everything from Donnie Darko to Brokeback Mountain to Nocturnal Animals. Do you pick or pass on Jake Gyllenhaal?
Steve Carell
Who else here misses The Office on a daily basis? We're not talking those two seasons where Steve Carell was no where to be found, but those first seven seasons that were pure magic. Aside from that, we totally appreciate Steve Carell as a leading man in all of the movies he's been in over the years too. He's just swell.
Cole Sprouse
We just have to say that even though Riverdale is supposed to be an ensemble show, we certainly love us some Jughead Jones playing narrator and always being at the center of the drama. Having Cole Sprouse come back onto the acting scene in 2017 was such a treat that we have to hope he stays in the limelight for a very long time.
Jamie Dornan
Jamie Dornan most definitely got roles in the film and television world before he was cast as Christian Grey, but it's safe to say that his role in the Fifty Shades Of Grey franchise pretty much cemented his place as a leading man. Really, we can't wait to see what kind of roles will come for Jamie Dornan in the upcoming months.
Zac Efron
It's kind of funny that Zac Efron's first foray into the leading man world was way back when in the High School Musical movies. He's certainly grown up since then and we've enjoyed him in so many roles like The Lucky One and most recently the film where he played Ted Bundy — unpleasant, but he did a good job.
Michael B. Jordan
Michael B. Jordan will always be a favorite leading man because it's kind of like all of that talent just snuck right up on us. He did such a great job in Black Panther and don't even get us started on his role as Adonis Johnson in Creed and it's sequel.
Andy Samberg
We loved it when the hilarious Andy Samberg made the transition from being a player on Saturday Night Live to starring on his own show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He absolutely fulfills that cute and funny guy niche that pretty much gets to us all. Do you pick or pass on leading man Andy Samberg?

Eddie Redmayne has certainly proven himself as a leading man the past several years. From playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything to starring in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, he can very easily jump back and forth between so many different worlds. John Krasinski
Luckily for all of us, John Krasinski will always be the prankster and lovable character of Jim from The Office, but he is very much capable of breaking out from that world as well. He directed and starred in A Quiet Place and has the sequel in the works and we really can't wait to see what's next for him.

Ben Affleck has always been that varied leading man who people constantly come back to perhaps because he has this very specific presence on screen. He almost demands your attention and you just can hardly wait to see what he's going to do next. Do you pick or pass on Ben Affleck's work?
Bradley Cooper
To say that 2018 was Bradley Cooper's year would be an understatement. Not only did he direct and star in the hit film A Star Is Born, but all of the work he did prior and during filming was nothing short of a miracle. We still can't believe the stage presence and vocals and guitar work he brought to that movie.
Matt Damon
Matt Damon is another leading man who has had such a varied and unique portfolio of work over the years. We all remember him as a complicated but smart as a whip young guy in Good Will Hunting. But all of his work in the Bourne franchise as well as the more comedic roles he's taken on has shown his true range.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio has become such a force and coveted leading man in Hollywood that we all just wait in suspense to see just what role he might take on next. Just thinking about his work on The Wolf Of Wall Street and The Revenant makes us so very excited to watch him in Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood this summer.
Hugh Jackman
Sometimes it's just fun to think about the roles that work to define an actor's work. For Hugh Jackman, we would have to say that his work in the X-Men movies as well as his hit musical The Greatest Showman work to establish to the world just exactly what it is he can do. And in a word, that would be everything.

George Clooney will always be a fan favorite just because he's been in the game for so long now and possesses all those good looks and charm, you root for him every time you see him on screen. Plus, what's not to love about the stereotypical ladies' man who eventually settled down and had kids with the accomplished lawyer? Not much!

There's just something so undeniably cool about Matthew McConaughey and even thinking about how he took such a mundane word and turned it into a classic catchphrase never fails to impress us. Henry Golding is someone who was put on our radar for his work on last summer's hit movie Crazy Rich Asians and we're actually super happy about that. Denzel Washington will always be known as one of the best dramatic actors of our time simply due to all of the great roles that have come his way over the years. We loved what he's done in the Equalizer films because he plays it all so quiet and stealth yet so powerfully. Do you pick or pass on Denzel's work?

Ryan Reynolds will always be the guy in which all other dudes wish they were friends with and a lot of us ladies out there who are into men, wish he was their husband. He's just so hysterically funny while being sweet and handsome and cool. You rarely get all of that in one package.

Speaking of another leading man that a lot of us seem to admire — Mark Wahlberg, ladies and gents. He certainly possesses that extra cool factor that so many people wish they had, but they can never quite achieve. Plus, the way he dips back and forth between comedy and drama is something to envy as well.

Noah Centineo is a young leading man that many of us are just getting familiar with, but from what we've seen so far in his films, he does possess that "it" factor. Channing Tatum will always be the guy who totally stole our hearts in some of the sweetest roles to date in She's The Man and Step Up. And then he had this really great turn into more mature films like Magic Mike where we all got to know him a little better. We're grateful for that.

Jason Statham will always be the leading man we think of in our minds when someone poses the hypothetical question of who we would want by our side should things go wrong and dangerous for us one day. He's just that guy because he possesses the strength and the smarts.

Even though we've all heard of the stuff that has shown up in the tabloids over the years, we will always think of Shia LaBeouf fondly because we'll just always remember that curly haired little teenager he started out as on Even Stevens. Jude Law has also had a unique journey as a leading man because some might say that he started out his acting work simply by being cast as the guy who was pretty easy on the eyes. But over the years he has proven himself and taken on several dramatic roles that have challenged him and allowed his artistic abilities to shine.

Will Smith is another actor who has surprised us by just how far he has come in his film journey. By starting on almost a purely comedic role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to going on to be in some of the biggest hits like Men In Black and Aladdin. He's a gem, that one.

How does that saying go? It's just Keanu Reeves' world and we're all just living in it? Yeah, we think that old adage most definitely applies to Keanu Reeves in the year 2019. He's totally making bank at the box office and with all of his other upcoming projects on the go and his undeniable charm, the world is totally in love.
