Pick Or Pass On These Comfort Foods And Get A Harry Potter Soulmate

There are only two things anybody needs to know about us. Number one, we love Harry Potter. Number two, we love food. And, yeah, we know, we know. On both of those scores, it's easy to say, "Well, no duh! Everybody loves both of those things! That's no surprise." And, yes, that's a fair point to make, hypothetical person. However, both of these fun factoids are so near and dear to our heart, they are so ingrained in our personality that we feel the need to express them to everyone. Who can blame us? Both Harry Potter and food are wonderful!

Anyway, with our love for that magical franchise and all things edible in mind, we thought that it would be fun to combine the two into a nifty little quiz! Here's the dealio. Think back for a minute. Reflect on all of those classic comfort food dishes—the ones our parents and grandparents fed us over the years, whether it was on a special occasion or not—and think on them. Consider them, rate them, tell us about it, and once that's done, we'll reveal everyone's Harry Potter soulmate! This is the deal of a lifetime, folks, don't pass it up. Pick or pass on these foods and get an HP bae.

Question 1

Macaroni and Cheese

Pasta is a winner by anybody's comfort food standards but combined with butter, milk, cheese and just a pinch of salt and it becomes unstoppable. If we could only eat one thing for the rest of our lives, this is the dish right here, folks. It's rich, it's decadent, it's savory and satisfying. Full of carbs and oh, so cheesy, who could turn down a bowl full of this stuff?

Lasagna

Garfield was onto something because lasagna really does taste amazing. Look at those layers, people! Layers of pasta, layers of cheese, layers of tomato sauce. Layer after layer of delicious yum baked in the oven to complete perfection, serving up a slice of this to your guests is the best way to get on their good side.

Chicken Noodle Soup

There's a reason our parents made chicken noodle soup for us when we were feeling under the weather. It's because this dish's comfort food powers are so concentrated and so potent that it can make you all better again. Well, at least, it can make you *feel* all better again, if only for a little while, and if only because its deliciousness distracts us from our discomfort.

Brownies

Can you even imagine what it would be like to live in a world where brownies didn't exist? We can't, and, more to the point, we don't want to. Whether you prefer the crispy ones around the edge of the pan or the super soft, gooey ones from the very center, everybody is all aboard the brownie train. It's the only way to travel.

Question 5

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Cheese and bread. It may not be peanut butter and jelly or peanut butter and chocolate or peanut butter and a whole lot of other yummy things, but it's an iconic combination in its own right, you have to give it that. Sandwich a slice of your favorite cheese between two pieces of bread, toast it in butter, slice it and prepare for deliciousness.

Cinnamon Rolls

Comfort food may not be healthy, in fact, you could argue that that is exactly the point. But what comfort food is is soothing to the soul. Cinnamon rolls don't just sooth your soul, they nourish it. The smell of cinnamon rolls alone is enough to make you reach comfort food nirvana, but *actually* eating one? Amazing.

Green Bean Casserole

Green bean casserole may not be your most favorite thing—or, maybe it is, what do we know?—but you can't deny that it's a classic. This thing is a staple at any holiday, particularly those that take place during the wintry months. Top this dish off with some crunchy almost-but-not-quite-Funions, and you've got an iconic comfort food on your hands.

Chicken Pot Pie

Sandwiched between two flaky and delicious pie crusts is an irresistibly rich and creamy vegetable and chicken filling. Every bite of chicken pot pie tastes like home. If you're going to have a slice of this we congratulate you because it's a good decision, but just know that you're going to have flashbacks to "the good old days". Wait, is that a bad thing?

Tuna Noodle Casserole

This dish is the best thing that could have possibly happened to tuna. Let's face it, tuna is the stuff you put on your salad for a quick and healthy lunch at work, but that doesn't mean you're happy about it. Tuna isn't exactly appetizing. At least, it wasn't, until somebody decided to stick it in tuna noodle casserole.

Mashed Potatoes

Top 'em with gravy, top 'em with chives, top 'em with just a plain old pat of butter, there is literally no wrong way to eat mashed potatoes. All the glorified deliciousness of potatoes combined with the simple, smooth texture of baby food, there ain't nothin' wrong with this always delicious and extremely comforting side dish.

We've met a lot of people in our lifetime and, though it may not be sane to do so, the first thing we ask everyone when we meet them is "Do you like pancakes?" Well, let us tell you, the answer has never been, "No." People love pancakes. All of them. And, given their fluffy, yummy deliciousness, it's not hard to see why.

Biscuits and Gravy

The thing about biscuits and gravy is that they are flipping delicious, but they will leave you incapacitated for up to twelve hours after you eat them. But here's the deal, you won't even care that you can't move because they're so tasty, it doesn't even matter. Bring it on, biscuits and gravy, bring it on.

Fried Chicken

Fried chicken is a comfort food that is *so* powerful that just by saying the name of the dish, the smell of it instantly fills the lungs of everyone who hears it. We have a hard time convincing ourselves to get out of bed, and this chore gets tougher and tougher everyday. But fried chicken? We could see getting up early for some fried chicken.

Banana Pudding

The Ninth Doctor was right, because bananas really *are* good. But these adorable yellow fruits become even gooder when they're sliced up and served in a pudding. With some whipped cream and a couple handfuls of Nilla Wafers, bananas reach their full potential. Now, pass us that spoon and stand back. We're suckers for a good banana pudding.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Salty and sweet at the same time, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are so stinkin' perfect, it's ridiculous. This classic comfort food isn't just the ideal lunch, it's a wonderful mid-afternoon snack. This delightful treat can keep you ful and focused until dinner, or it can be a meal on its own. PB&J, you so talented!

Chili

If there's a better dish to enjoy on a cold, wintry night, we don't know what it is. Chili has managed to be both spicy and soothing, which is a remarkable feat if you think about it because, usually, when things are zesty, they're not comforting, too. With some grated cheddar cheese and a side of cornbread, chili is an unstoppable force.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

We love cookies of all kinds, probably because we have half a brain. But there's just something extra special about chocolate chip cookies. The way they smell coming out of the oven, the way the chocolate sorta melts, but mostly stays in chip form, the way they taste soaked in some milk. Seriously, this is perfection. We found it.

Corn Dogs

Corn bread baked to golden brown over a hot dog. Whew, we don't know whose idea this was or how it came to them, but we're sure glad it did. Corn dogs may seem like no big deal, but one bite into them and you soon realize they *are* in fact a *very* big deal. Plus, they're on a stick. We totally dig foods on a stick.

Broccoli and Rice Casserole

It's Thanksgiving. The table is lined with food. Sweet potato casserole, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, stuffing, a big roasted turkey in the center of it all. It's a beautiful sight, and to be fair, they're all comfort foods. But broccoli and rice casserole is the one we're focusing on here. It's healthy (well, relatively speaking), it's creamy, it sticks to your ribs. What more could you want?

Egg Rolls

We'll admit, we have no idea how to make egg rolls, or even how eggs factor into the equation, and we'll tell you something else, we're too lazy to Google it because we would rather eat egg rolls, not figure out how they're made. Fun fact, we once ate 43 of these things in one sitting. We're proud of that, by the way.

Pot Roast

Pot roast is just as easy to make as it is to eat. Grab a pot roast, throw it in the crock pot, toss in some vegetables and wait. It's that simple. After a few hours, serve it up and enjoy the yum. Plus, if you're lucky, you'll have some leftovers, perfect for sandwiches.

Scalloped Potatoes

Oh, potatoes, is there nothing that you can't do? We don't mean to sound melodramatic, but potatoes are kind of everything. French fries, mashed potatoes, potato wedges, these scalloped potatoes—none of these things would be possible without potatoes. So thank you, potatoes. We would be much less happy were it not for you.

This is a phenomenal side dish. A baked potato is just so good, isn't it? And it's basically a vessel for other goodies that people would look at you weird for eating on their own. Like, you can't eat ranch dressing, butter and bacon bits by themselves, but in a baked potato? Badabing, it's suddenly perfectly acceptable! Baked potatoes are nothing short of magical.

Who in their right mind would ever turn down bread? It's one of those universal beloved comfort foods. But right now, we're not talking about any old bread, we're talking about cornbread. Slightly sweet, somewhat cake-y in texture, slap a pat of butter on a warm slice of cornbread and prepare to taste heaven.

Bean and Cheese Burritos

Listen, we know that bean and cheese burritos can't solve all of your problems. But that's what comfort foods are for, anyway. Burritos can't fix whatever issues you got going on in your life, but they can make facing these issues that much more bearable. Also, they're delicious, so take that into account, too.

Chicken and Dumplings

At the heart of so many comfort food dishes is chicken. Fried chicken, chicken pot pie, chicken noodle soup, chicken and rice casserole. Personally speaking, however, chicken and dumplings is our most favorite of the chicken-based comfort foods. It's chicken soup but with little bits of dough. Dough is just unfinished bread. We mean, come on, we're in! This is gonna be delicious!

Spaghetti and Meatballs

Ugh! Did you say, "Spaghetti and meatballs"? Are you just *trying* to make us hungry? Because consider your mission accomplished. Great, now all we want to do is boil a boatload of noodles, heat up a jar of Prego, cook some meatballs and re-watch Lady and the Tramp. *Stomach growls* We hope you're happy!

Apple Pie

They say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," which implies that we view apples as the multivitamin of the fruit world. Well, we bet apples are sick of being seen as a supplement, and to combat this misconception, apples banded together and decided to toss their nutritional value out the window by becoming a pie. And, we have to say, this was a good decision because apple pie is yumlicious.

Meatloaf

Meatloaf is one of those comfort foods that you can't stand when you're little, but as you grow and your tastes change, you realize what a wonder it actually is. Whether your favorite meatloaf is topped with ketchup, a layer of mashed potatoes, cheese or something else, this is one comfort food dish that can't be beat.

Ham and Swiss Cheese Sandwich

Ham and swiss is no PB&J, nor is it a grilled cheese, but this sandwich is a classic in its own right. When you get a hankering for a ham and swiss sandwich, nothing else will suffice. It's a very specific sensation, but you know it when you feel it.Sometimes it's years between ham and swiss cravings, but when they hit you, they hit hard, and all you can do is give in.

Garlic Bread

Halitosis is a serious issue, but it's a problem that we are more than willing to face for the sake of consuming this, the most delightful of meal accompanying breads. Garlic bread, with its buttery garlicky breadyness, is sheer perfection. You can eat it with anything from spaghetti to chicken and rice casserole, or you can just down a loaf of this stuff all by itself, it's JUST THAT GOOD.

Tomato Soup

Let's not beat about the bush, here. Tomato soup is nothing more than ketchup that studied abroad for a year and thinks it's so fancy and important now. But, that being said, it's not wrong. Tomato soup, all warm and tomato-y, with a side of a grilled cheese sandwich? Now that's a fine lunch by anybody's standards.

Fish Sticks

Fish sticks aren't for everyone. Fish is a pretty hit or miss kind of food. Some people love it, and we think that's fabulous because it's super healthy and it's a great dietary choice. But other people, those who actually have a sense of taste, don't enjoy fish. Either way, fish sticks are a classic. How do they rate on your comfort food scale?

Peach Cobbler

Fruit is fine on its own, but only when it's been boiled with copious amounts of sugar and topped with some sort of unhealthy crumble or crust and no longer resembles its original nutrient-dense state does fruit become something that resembles delicious. Peach cobbler is one of our all time faces. Top it off with a scoop of ice cream and there's no way we can turn it down.

Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes are so casual. They don't put on airs, they're not trying to be something they're not, they know exactly what they are and they're perfectly comfortable with that. They embrace their disorderliness, and because *they* love who they are, we *love* who they are. Sloppy Joes, you guys are true to yourselves, and that's part of what makes you so perfect. Taste is the other part that makes you so perfect because yum, for real.

Nachos

Nachos are like chips and dip that did all of the work for you. None of that annoying chipping and dipping involved in nachos, they've already got all of the good stuff on them, all you have to do is eat your way through the plateful. Easy peasy, people. Can do. Nachos? We love you, you're so tasty and so considerate.

Frosted Sugar Cookies

As a little kid in kindergarten, seeing the parent of a classmate with a birthday walk in with a carton full of these puppies for everyone in the room...that was an amazing feeling. For one brief, shining moment, it didn't matter that you couldn't figure out why six plus two didn't equal ten. All that mattered was the frosted sugar cookies. And even to this day, they're still all that matters.

Beef Stroganoff

Really, any kind of food dish that involves pasta can be considered a comfort food because pasta is so delicious, even if you're only eating it with, say, butter. But beef stroganoff is an excellent addition to pasta. Creamy and savory, beef stroganoff is practically irresistible, but maybe it's not your thing. Your the judge here. How do you feel about this comfort food?

Enchiladas

Tortillas are the pasta of south of the border food. Try to tell us we're wrong on that. You can take anything, even the most undesirable of foods, and throw it on pasta OR wrap it in a tortilla, and it becomes an instant hit. That said, it's no surprise that enchiladas are such a hit with literally everyone.

Roasted Turkey

Roasted turkey is a *classic*, pure and simple. Christmas with the family? Roasted turkey is there. Thanksgiving at your grandparents' place? Roasted turkey will be making a guest appearance. Roasted turkey can be dry or tough or bland or blah, but when it's done right, it's perfection. How do you feel about this iconic comfort food?
