Pick A Finishing Move And We'll Tell You Which Wrestler You Are

3.4K Shares

In no better way can wrestling be seen more as a spectacle than a sport than when its stars enter the arena. Here come the giants of a world of big sponsors and prizes: The Rob Van Dams, the Trish Stratuses. Like gladiators of the Roman age, they are followed by tens of thousands of devotees, many of whom travel from coast to coast to see their favorite.

Most of the time, none is disappointed. Wrestling is a show of strength - it’s all about pulverizing the opposition - but so too is wrestling a type of staged body combat. With over a hundred different ways to vanquish, it is little wonder a single match attracts so many fans.

One of the calling cards of wrestlers who have made it into something like the WWE is a Finishing Move. This is a special Eleventh Hour combat manoeuvre and usually comes with a big helping of flair and physical fireworks. Wrestlers employ a Finish towards the end of a battle and it is used by the assured victor to “seal the deal”.

There is no denying the parallels with gladiators. For audiences under Roman law would watch as an attendant dressed as a messenger god who escorted souls to the underworld would finish off the wounded fighter with a fatal blow to the head. Too Cold Scorpio at the end of his fights would often climb up the turnbuckle and then throw himself towards his opponent while spinning 450 degrees. It was a lethal manoeuvre and risky, but it too finished the job.
