The art of the movie poster has been lost on today’s youth. In fact, it can hardly even be considered an art form anymore. No movie posters these days have any artistic merit. It’s just a still from the movie or a picture of Liam Neeson holding a gun or a picture of Lindsay Lohan biting her lower lip. There’s nothing to it. There’s no substance. Back in the day, when people used to actually go to the movies and see the posters hanging on the walls of their local multiplex in order to decide what they would see, instead of just hearing about a movie on social media, Googling it for its Rotten Tomatoes score, and using that to determine whether or not you watch it on Netflix, movie posters were art. They were painted – actually painted, like the way Leonardo Da Vinci made his art – by the likes of Drew Struzan, who used color and depth in such a way that one striking image would make you excited enough to buy a ticket to see that movie. It was phenomenal! Posters these days suck. They’re not recognizable or iconic. If you can name all these movie posters, then you’re definitely getting old!
