Only True Mutants Can Name The Superpowers Of These X-Men Characters

Do you think you're a mutant? Have you ever tried to float a piece of bread into the toaster using only your mind? Maybe you were alone one day, and you forced really hard until razor-sharp blades protruded from your knuckles. Having failed those tests miserably, maybe you're starting to think that your mutant powers reside in the realm of X-Men trivia. We admire this adjustment to reality.

Whether there are actual mutants in the world, we can't actually say. We haven't met everyone in the world after all, nor has anyone. Even if we did, we'd have no time to get to know everyone in the world deeply enough for them to share their closely-kept mutant secret with us. All we can really do is hope. While we wait for actual mutants to show up, we can find out if you truly are a mutant when it comes to X-Men trivia.

Did you only happen to watch the X-Men animated series when it was on TV, or did you religiously watch every episode? How about the comics - have you flipped through those? Or are you just getting on the X-Men bandwagon now that those huge movies have popularized the series? If that's the case, there's no way you'll pass this quiz.

Question 1

X-Man

If you didn't already know that there's a mutant within the X-Men universe who's actually called X-Man, then you aren't a mutant yourself. In any case, it's true; Nate Grey is the original X-Man who played a key role in the parallel reality known as "The Age of Apocalypse". Being called "X-Man", you might assume that Nate has some mutant powers that far exceed the ordinary, and you'd definitely be right. If you really are a mutant, you'll know his superpower.

Question 2

Wolverine

Now, here's an X-Man that you're definitely familiar with. Indeed, more than Nate Gray himself, Wolverine is often considered the titular "X-Man" himself. Unlike Mr. Gray, however, Wolverine's powers are far easier to understand, and we have no doubt that you'll be able to identify his talent without even having followed the series too deeply. Essentially, if you know what color orange juice is, you'll probably be able to name Wolverine's superpower. So, can you tell us what it is?

Question 3

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch was never an extremely popular mutant from the X-Men series, not even after having appeared in the animated series. Instead, she gained most of her recognition after being featured in the recent live-action representations of the mutant world. On the big screen, viewers were subject to her extraordinary power that can quickly spurn out of control if she doesn't control herself. Does that give away too much? If you're a real mutant, you don't even need a hint.

Question 4

Polaris

Polaris, or Lorna Dane, is one of the more subtle X-Men characters. In fact, this is the first point where our quiz becomes a true test of your mutant wits. If you're truly immersed in the series, Polaris' superpower will instantly pop into your mind as soon as you read her name. Maybe this quote from her will help refresh your memory: "Then this is how the world ends. In rage and blood and fire." Keep in mind that we might be trying to mislead you here.

Question 5

Cyclops

Okay, after Polaris, your mutant mind can probably use an easy question. We'll give you one here, just because we're feeling generous. Anyone who knows anything about X-Men is acutely familiar with Cyclops' mutant power. After all, he's part of the core team of heroic mutants trying to save the world from the not-so-heroic ones. How does he do that? Well, if you're a mutant, we wouldn't have to tell you that, now would we? Let's see if you can press the right button.

Question 6

Gambit

You did so well on that last question, we thought we'd give you another easy one here. Like Cyclops, Gambit has been along for the ride on so many X-Men missions, we're sure that you have his singular mutant superpower in mind. If you don't, then you probably have no trace of the mutant genome in you. That's alright, as most people are in that boat. However, if you manage to answer this question correctly, you might still have a chance at being a mutant.

Question 7

Cipher

Well, the fun and easy part is over for now. We won't go too deep into the niche mutants here, but we will give you a subject who's always been slightly out of the spotlight. Indeed, this might be for good reason; Cipher is consistently labeled one of the most useless mutants in the series. She has powers, we're just not sure how necessary they are to the X-Men's missions. Can you remember this mutant's superpower? If you're a mutant, you should.

Question 8

Colossus

Put that can opener away; Colossus might just be a hunk of precious metals, but there's no tuna inside of him. If you did happen to look inside this mutant, chances are that you'd see nothing but a beating, golden heart. Despite his size and physical capabilities, Colossus is one of the kindest, most gentle creatures in the X-Men series. Of course, that doesn't mean that he can't face off against the juggernaut from time to time. What's his power?

Question 9

Havok

After appearing as an X-Man on the big screen, Havok has emerged from the margins of the X-Men universe to come into popular awareness. He's a dangerous mutant by all means, with formidable powers. Here's a quote from the guy to possibly help jog your memory: "... this is what I have been most afraid of, ever since I first manifested my powers -- using it to kill!" If you're an actual mutant yourself, you'll have no trouble naming Havok's mutant power.

Question 10

Jubilee

Whenever you see Gambit on an X-Men mission, there's a good chance that Jubilee's right there, not far behind him. The two pair up like hot molasses on bread, or whatever other kind of Cajun food they eat. Jubilee might not look like much of a threat when you see her in front of you, but don't mess with her; she's an X-Men mutant, which means she can probably mess you up in about 2 seconds. That is, unless you're also a mutant yourself.

Question 11

Magneto

Now, who's this villain-esque X-Men character right here? Could that be the grand antagonist of the entire series? Well, look at that - it is. Being such a prominent figure in X-Men lore, you've probably seen what Magneto can do to dozens of mutants at a time. He's one of the most powerful mutants in the world, and it's all due to his singular power. We're sure that you'll have no problem telling us what that is. His name kind of gives it away.

Question 12

Nightcrawler

There's a creeper on his way, and it looks like Nightcrawler! Poor Kurt Wagner is such a nice guy at heart, but no one ever sees him for what he is due to his appearance. Indeed, he was born this way, so it's the only type of existence that he knows. He also knows how to whip out a mean mutant power whenever he chooses to. You've seen him do that countless times - if you're a true mutant, that is.

Question 13

Sabretooth

Every good hero needs a proper rival, which is what Sabretooth is to Wolverine. These two have gone back and forth so often, it's hard to keep track of who's on top. Thankfully, we have; it's Wolverine, by a slight margin. Even at that, no clear victor emerges from their bouts, since both mutants can regenerate themselves. Of course, that's only one of Sabretooth's mutant powers. Can you name what this evil X-Men character is best at? Let's see if you can.

Question 14

Toad

Whoa! Why does it suddenly smell like poppycock in here? Oh, it's just Toad walking in. Damn, that is rancid. Well, with a name like Toad, there's not much else that you can expect other than bad manners and a horrific stench. Of course, the other thing that you can probably expect is Toad laying a smackdown on you with his evil mutant powers. He's not the strongest X-Men villain, but he certainly holds his own. Can you name his mutant power?

Question 15

Anole

Alright, for the last few questions, we might have gone too easy on you. That was our mistake - mutants are allowed a set of mistakes, after all. For this question, we won't be so easy on you. Potential mutants: here is Anole, but you might have already known that. Coming from a small village, Anole was initially accepted for his mutant powers, but that took a turn once anti-mutant sentiment got a hold of those around him. Can you name his power?

Question 16

Apocalypse

We've finally come to this: the big, bad, nigh invincible bad guy of the X-Men series. Of course, we're talking about the mutant pictured here, and the title of this question: Apocalypse. Just uttering the name spells out its meaning. If you've been following the series, you'll know how tense things get once this guy shows up. His powers are beyond measure, and he's often come close to ending the world altogether. Can you name the unstoppable mutant power of Apocalypse?

Question 17

Iceman

After all the stress you've just built up as you recalled the horrors dished out by Apocalypse, it's time for you to cool down. In the X-Men world, the best way to cool down is by hanging out with Iceman, everyone's favorite chill mutant. Iceman has an incredibly effective power that he's saved the day with several times. The unfortunate part - for this quiz, anyway - is that his mutant power is spelled right in his name. But maybe you didn't notice.

Question 18

Emma Frost

So, you've managed to figure out Iceman's power. Whoop-dee-doo! Good for you. Now, let's move on. Here, we present to you the lovely Emma Frost, whose mutant powers run even deeper than her beauty. Like Iceman, Emma Frost's superpower is spelled right into her name... or is it? As quizmasters, we have a legal right to mislead you if we think it's fun. Of course, if you're a mutant, our little game here won't do anything to stop you from pressing the right button.

Question 19

Jean Grey

Another one of the core members of the X-Men team, Jean Grey has tagged along for countless missions, and is often the one responsible for the heroes emerging victorious. When her true potential is fully activated, Jean can easily lose control and turn into the mighty Phoenix, bringing about the end of the world if the mutants can't stop her. Even in her regular form, Jean has a limitless well of potential power. Do you know what that power is based on?

Question 20

Franklin Richards

That's enough members of the core X-Men team for now. Here, let's test you out with a more obscure mutant: Franklin Benjamin Richards. This New York City-born mutant inherited his powers from the radiation-altered genes passed down to him by his parents. Even when he was a wee toddler, Franklin Richards began to develop his incredible potential. You might have been able to guess Jean Grey's ability without much effort, but only true X-Men fans will be able to place the power of this mutant right here.

Question 21

Rogue

Everyone, this is Rogue. Wait, don't shake her hand! Whoops, too late for that guy. Guess he wasn't a mutant - if he was, he would have known to simply wave "Hello" at rogue from a distance. Now that we think about it, Rogue was under no obligation to return the handshake... anyway, she has super strong mutant powers that she can send someone to hell with if she happens to get close enough. Come on, you definitely know what her ability is.

Question 22

Professor X

Here's the big guy himself: Professor X, fearless leader of the X-Men. Granted, he doesn't show up in the front lines much, but don't underestimate a guy in a wheelchair. When he wants to, the professor can make miraculous things happen through his mutant ability. Indeed, he's the only one capable of channelling such incredible power without exploding into a million pieces. You'll have seen his abilities used in the comics, TV series and movies. So, tell us what it is.

Question 23

Kid Omega

Oh look, it's this little tike. In the X-Men world, even the really young can display astronomical mutant power, and that's definitely the case with Kid Omega. When he joined the Xavier Institute, Quentin Quire was taken under Professor X's wing as his prized pupil. Does that give away his mutant power? Let's see... If you can name Kid Omega's ability, you'll be that much closer to being considered a mutant. If you can't, well, you're probably just like everyone else.

Question 24

Blink

Hmm, was that a "Blink" sound that we heard? Is that a pink thing over there in the distance. Why, yes it is - that means Blink is around, and she means business. This mutant swore never to use her powers again after a traumatic incident, but she never really upheld that. Good thing she didn't, because her abilities are truly a marvel to witness. If you've ever witnessed them yourself, you'll have no trouble telling us what she's capable of.

Question 25

Angel

Look up there, in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane! No, it's Superman! Oh, wait, no - it's Angel! The gods themselves have sent an emissary to show us the true path of light in life. Or, maybe he's here to mess some other mutants up. Angel has always been a strange, mysterious character in X-Men lore, and he's also extremely powerful. Besides having beautiful wings, can you tell us what his mutant powers are? Let's find out if you're a real mutant.
