The Vampire Diaries have been off the air for a little while now but it is still one of the most talked about CW shows ever. It is easy to see why because the characters were very likable and the show was one air for a while so viewers were able to see the cast grow up. The three main characters Elena, Stefan and Damon were always dealing with problems and loses. Over the course of eight seasons a lot happens, especially with this bunch. There were a couple of main story lines over the seasons including various villains, problems and situations so there is a ton to remember. If you have only watched the series once then you may have missed some things or forgot some of the major events. There were some pretty crazy twists and turns on The Vampire Diaries but one of the craziest ones was finding out that one of the vampires on the show was actually a parent. Why does Klaus come to Mystic Falls?
Klaus is the main antagonist for a pretty long time. He is stronger then everyone else on the show and is not afraid to use force in order to get whatever his little heart desires. Once he comes to Mystic Falls he realizes how much he likes it there and decides that he will stay for a while. He even starts building a home before he is swept away with some other, more pressing matters that he must attend to.
How did Elena survive the crash that killed her parents?
For the better part of the first season Elena and her brother are still reeling from the sudden loss of their parents. Their parents died when their car drove off of Wickery Bridge and they drowned. Elena was in the back seat when this happened but she somehow managed to survive the crash and live to tell the tale. For a while no one could understand how she survived and assumed that it was a miracle and just pure luck.
Which Salvatore did Elena meet first?
Elena was pretty infatuated with both of the Salvatore brothers when she first met them, in different ways. She loved Stefan and his kindness but Damon had a way of grabbing her attention and holding onto it. In the end she dated both brothers but stayed with Damon for the rest of eternity. It was a constant black cloud in the room but eventually Stefan got closure and Damon and Elena were able to live happily ever after. Who did she meet first?
Why does Damon give Caroline his blood in the hospital?
Caroline becomes Damon's personal blood bag when he first arrives in Mystic Falls. He uses her as a way to make Stefan angry as well as get close to Elena. Eventually he breaks off whatever he has with Caroline and the two go their separate ways. However, Damon gives Caroline her blood when she ends up in the hospital with some very serious injuries. Damon's blood heals her completely and ends up saving her life at the end of the day.
Who put Elena in a permanent slumber?
At the end of season six Elena ends up in a slumber that can only be broken by a specific event. She is technically alive and well just in some sort of magical coma. This was done by someone who wanted to get back at a couple of her friends and used her as a way to enact their revenge. Even though it upsets everyone they learn to accept the fact that for right now she is gone but she will be back.
Is there anyway to wake her up from this slumber?
Elena must remain in this slumber until something very specific happens. The person who placed this spell on her made sure that they would get their full revenge enacted before there was any way of waking her up, or so they thought. Bonnie is eventually able to break the spell and wake Elena but before this what was the only way the friends knew to wake up Elena? What had to happen to wake Elena up from her magical coma?
What career does Caroline end up doing?
Caroline is one of the most ambitious and strong willed characters in tv history. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to chase after it. Even after she becomes a vampire she still does everything that she had planned to do including going to college, having a family and starting a career in the field of her choice. During the last season we are able to see Caroline flourishing in her career and genuinely happy before everything hits the fan.
Why does Stefan leave Mystic Falls?
At one point in the series Stefan leaves Mystic Falls for a couple of months. He cuts off everyone that he once knew there including Elena and Caroline because he is trying to forget everything that has happened there. He starts a whole new life with a new job and even a new girlfriend before Caroline hunts him down and confronts him about his whereabouts. There is a reason that he wants this blank slate, do you know what it is?
Which Salvatore knew Klaus first?
Klaus was a main character on the show for a couple of seasons. Before he came to Mystic Falls he was known as the big bag original who was going to come into town and crush anyone in his path. Elena and her friends were terrified of him but once he got to town they realized that he was mean but also kind of normal and he even became close to some of the residents of Mystic Falls, especially Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood.

When the friends arrive on the island in search of the cure they all have their own plans about what they will do with it. However, they are shocked to find out that there is only one dose of it and everything changes. Suddenly its a race to the cure to see who can get it first. Once they arrive they find out that they are not the only ones on the island and things become become trickier than before.
What does Silas want?
Silas is another antagonist that was on the show. He was the doppelgänger of Stefan and pretended to be him for a couple of months. Eventually Elena and Damon figured out that something wasn't right and found the real Stefan buried at sea, alive. Once Silas' cover was blown he decided to be even more evil and let his true intentions be known. He has one single mission now that he was back on earth and would do anything to complete it.
How many Petrova doppelgängers are there?
The Petrova doppelgängers are a very important part of the show. They are used to create a ton of different spells and curses. This means that they are needed to reverse the spells or dismantle the curses. When Elena finds out that she is in fact adopted everything falls into place as to how she looks exactly like Katherine. Do you remember how many total doppelgängers there are in the series total? Is there just Elena and Katherine or more?
Who hasn't Jeremy dated?
When the series first starts Jeremy is just entering high school and learning to find himself. He had suffered a great loss a few months before when his parents died in a car accident and is still trying to pick up the pieces. As a result he finds himself in a few different unhealthy as well as healthy relationships with women. At the end of the show he finds himself single and finally taking the time to work on himself.

Vicki was a regular on the show for the first half of the first season. She was the first character to be turned into a vampire and has a very hard time with the transition. As a human she was impulsive and a drug user and this is all amplified when she becomes a vampire. Elena never wanted to be a vampire, she made that abundantly clear for a very long time. That choice is taken away from her when Rebekah forces the car that she is in off of the bridge and she drowns with vampire blood in her system. Rebekah is stricken with grief because she thinks that her brother Klaus is dead because of Elena's friends. She uses this as a form of revenge before she finds out that he is actually alive.
What is the dark magic called that Bonnie practices?
Bonnie is lost for a long time on the show. She is torn between her loyalty to the witches and humans and her loyalty to her friends. She has a hard time finding a happy medium and a lot of the time feels very alone. She loses her magic for a bit during the early seasons of the show and turns to a professor to help her get her magic back. He teaches her a dark magic that wrecks havoc on her life.
Who does Enzo first fall for on the show?
Enzo was Damon's cellmate when they were being poked and prodded by the Augustine's. They had a strong bond and promised to get out together but when Damon got the opportunity to leave he left without going back for his friend. Once Enzo gets out decades later he vows revenge on Damon for leaving him there. He is surprised to find that he becomes close to Damon's friends and even takes a liking to one of them off the bat.

What year is Bonnie & Damon trapped in?
When the other side starts disintegrating and Mystic Falls is being taken over by travelers. Bonnie and her friends know that they have to do something, especially because Bonnie is stuck on the other side. They come up with a plan to kill all of the travelers and save Bonnie from being lost into an abyss but things go awry like usual. Damon and Bonnie end up getting stuck in a prison world and reliving the same day over and over again.
How does Elena cope with Damon's death?
When Damon is sucked into the previously mentioned prison world Elena thinks that he is gone for good. She not only lost the love of her life but also Bonnie, her best friend. She does not handle these losses well and tries to put on a tough front. She focuses her mind on school and tries to keep busy but eventually she has to find a way to cope with losing two of the most important people in her life.
What career does Elena end up doing?
Elena bounced around a lot throughout the series when it came to her future. Before she lost her parents she had a very clear plan about what she wanted her future to look like but once she lost them her entire world was turned upside down. Everything she thought that she knew and wanted before she questioned. In the end she ends up in a career that makes sense for her and seems to be what she was always meant to do.
What does Stefan do when Damon dies?
When Damon dies Stefan has a very hard time with it. Damon was his only living family member and the two ended up becoming very close during their time in Mystic Falls. For two brothers that once hated each other they loved each other very much at the time of Damon's supposed death. In order to deal with Damon's death and cope with it Stefan takes on a big project to take his mind off of things and relax a bit.
Who is the father of Caroline's kids?
Vampires cannot get pregnant, or so everyone thought. You can imagine the surprise that everyone felt when Caroline started showing signs of pregnancy. It turns out that she was in fact pregnant with twins nonetheless. She ends up giving birth to twin girls. She devotes her life to these two little babies and moves away from Mystic Falls in order to give them the most normal life possible. She does her best to keep them away from anything supernatural but it seems they attract it.
