Only Someone Obsessed With Sephora Can Ace This Basic Makeup Quiz!

Are you super into all different types of makeup? So am I! Even before I knew what a Sephora or an ULTA Beauty was, I was constantly wandering off to the beauty aisle of my local Target to read the packaging of things that I had no idea how to use. (Not to mention, I had no money to buy any of them either, since I was around 7 or 8 years old at the time.) As I got older, I started learning my way around, and even if I've got a few weak points (like eyeshadow looks that aren't awful,) I still love to look around.

The first time I wandered into a Sephora was like coming home for me, and I've always made a point to snap up a few new products every time I have the spare cash to do so!

Between spending time in makeup shops and watching YouTube videos, I've accidentally built up a pretty decent amount of knowledge about brands, products, and application processes. And you know what? I bet I'm not the only one! If you're anywhere near as obsessed with Sephora, ULTA Beauty, or literally any shop that has a decent-sized beauty aisle like I am, you'll probably pass this quiz with flying colors. Take it and find out!

Question 1

What is this product called?

This product is often considered a staple for even the most natural looks. Without it, your foundation might wash your face out and give you an unappealing, unnatural dullness. It comes in tons of different colors from countless brands, some with more colorful shades and others aiming to match your skin tone near perfectly for the most subtle of color pops. While powder is the most popular, there are two other formulations as well, gel and cream. What is this product called?

Question 2

Why does primer come first?

Even though the name implies it, you'd be surprised by how often it has to be explained that primer comes before any other product on your skin! What the name doesn't explain, however, is why it comes first. Is it because it will make your makeup last longer? Or is it because it will help to hide fine lines and wrinkles? Or maybe it's because it can help to cover enlarged pores and other flaws? Why does primer come before everything else?

Question 3

What is this technique called?

This process has been referred to as shape-shifting before, and that's a pretty accurate way to describe it. To do this, you take makeup that is lighter and darker than your natural skintone (or whatever color your foundation produces, I guess) and apply it to different areas of your face to paint it to perfection. The most popular areas to focus on are the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and the brow, but it can be used anywhere that you're not happy with to make everything look flawless. What is this called?

What kind of brush is this?

I’ve had my make up brush collection described as being enough to paint a house with - and truthfully, I don’t even have very many! There definitely are a lot of brushes out there though, with each one having its own unique purpose or specialty. In my opinion, foundation brushes resemble paint brushes the most, which makes sense because of the consistency of some foundations. The other brushes sometimes don’t look like they’re for what they actually are for, though, and other times, they look EXACTLY like that’s what they’re for. What do you think this brush is meant to be used for?

Their first product and the one that really got them out there was their cheek, face, and lip tint, which they created for an exotic dancer to use on.. other places.. during her performances! What kind of lipstick gives thin lips a boost?

Thick, full lips have been a desirable feature for as long as I can remember, even back in the ‘90s. Plumping lip products have always been available in stores, with an even wider variety nowadays, promising to thicken your lips in addition to painting them a new color. Even minor surgical procedures like lip injections have become a pretty normal thing for those whose natural pout isn’t plump enough! However, one thing that can help you out with no special products or needles is this: knowing what lip color is right for you. If you’ve got thin lips, and you want them to appear thicker, should you be reaching for a dark color or a light color?

Question 11

High end or drugstore: ColourPop

This brand makes bright, amazingly vibrant and pigmented products - which makes sense because their name is literally ColourPop, so I'd be disappointed if their shades were dull! Funnily enough, this brand is also known for being a marvelous and more affordable dupe of anything from Kylie Jenner's lip line. There are even rumors that she used ColourPop products and repackaged them, but those have never been confirmed, and I'm definitely not putting an opinion out there either way! If you wanted to get some of this stuff, where would you look?

Question 13

Is black eyeliner the best choice for everyone?

Eyeliner is considered one of the staple make up items by nearly everyone who wears it. Part of the reason for this is probably because it saves your face from being washed out by other products, but even people who don't wear other make up will gladly throw on a coat of eyeliner or two before heading out! Like all make up, eyeliner comes in a whole rainbow of colors, from moody darks to basic neutrals to neon brights - but the most popular is probably black eyeliner. Question 14

What color should your concealer be?

Concealer is a blessing from above if you ask me. It’s likely that any other person with dark circles, acne scarring, chicken pox scars, or some other sort of naturally occurring but conventionally unattractive flaws thinks so too. There are all different kinds of brands and types, like foundations - some with full coverage for heavy duty use like scars or the signs of only sleeping for 5 hours a night, and some that are a bit lighter for small jobs like a pimple or a couple of dark spots. Since everyone has different skin, everyone has different needs, and there’s never been a better time than now to try to hunt down exactly what you want, since the make up industry is expanding rapidly. In the past few years, we've learned that a very specific (and somewhat unexpected) part of the face reigns supreme over the others: eyebrows. Weak eyebrows can totally ruin a look, while strong eyebrows can totally save one. Between threading and tattoos and (thankfully less painful processes such as) beauty products, there's almost no excuse for not having some kind of poppin' brow going on, whether it's all natural or all drawn on. Beauty products come in all kinds of options: pencils, creams, pomade, wax, mascara-like formulas, gels, and powders. However, rumor has it that you can just use normal eyeshadow for this job too. What do you think?

Question 25

Do certain nail polish shades make your fingers look longer?

Some people are lucky enough to have long, elegant fingers naturally, but others, like myself, have stubby little bits where our fingers are supposed to be. There's not much to be done about it really, other than to live with the hand you were dealt - no pun intended - but there are some tips and tricks to fool the human eye into thinking you've got (at least) normal sized appendages. Pushing back your cuticles definitely helps, but choosing the right color of nail polish is also pretty important... Isn't it?

Following the success of those, a Naked Basics palette was released, which was exactly what the name makes it sound like, including products for other parts of the face. They've also turned out Naked Heat, a sunset-inspired eyeshadow palette, Naked Smoky, an eyeshadow palette cut out for a flawless smoky eye, and two others for a whopping total of eight palettes in the same product line. What is the name of the brand that started the Naked craze?
