What comes to mind when we think of Disney? Is it just Mickey Mouse and that beautiful castle? Most probably not! Disney has filed our childhoods with many memories. Some of them are very happy, but others not so much (let's face it!).

We can't help but love both the villains and the protagonists because characters from both categories are so memorable to this day! The same goes for sidekicks and their awesome and adorable quirks.

Let's not forget about those songs that still stuck in our heads even after all these years! Who doesn't know by heart Sebastian's 'Under the Sea'? Who doesn't shout out of his or her lungs when singing 'Be our Guest' from Beauty and the Beast?

The 1990s were a time of great creative outlet in Disney products and we can't help but feel grateful for the huge amount of  fun it has provided us with all these years! After all, we may not be children any more, but one of our comfort movies can still be Mulan (1998) (we're just saying!)

These characters were introduced to us in the hit animation film The Lion King (1994). They were two very fan favorite characters and as a result they got their own animated television series! Although they are not part of the same species (one of them is a warthog and the other a meerkat!) they are inseparable! That doesn't mean that they agree on everything. We all know a little mermaid with beautiful red hair and an angelic voice! We can't be talking about anyone else but Ariel! First of all, according to Wikipedia, "Ariel is loosely based on the nameless protagonist of Hans Christian Andersen's Danish fairy tale 'The Little Mermaid'" Unlike her original version, Disney's Ariel gets a happy ending because she gets to live in the human world (her biggest dream!) with the man she loves! Before she gets to that, however, she has to spend some time with Prince Eric first. In this specific scene, for instance, Ariel and Eric have gone out and an iconic song accompanies these moments! Name this sidekick

This sidekick has spent a lot of time with our favorite character Aladdin! Together they have survived many adventures which mostly had to do with Aladdin seeking for food (after all he grew up on his own). Perhaps Aladdin rings another bell beside the Disney hero! In fact, according to Wikipedia "Aladdin is based on the eponymous character of the Aladdin folk tales featured in the Middle Eastern One Thousand and One Nights stories!" Since Aladdin is based on a story from the Middle Eastern oral tradition, it helps us peek into the realities of a beautiful world! This particular character is introduced to us through the hit animated film Mulan (1998). Considering that Mulan is set in China, the fact that Mulan's sidekick is a dragon is very important! According to USA Today, "dragons lived alongside mankind, providing protection and guidance." It is also said that "from the heavens, celestial dragons oversaw the world's balance, protecting the Chinese people from natural calamities." For this reason, when Mulan hits the little dragon, he calls this dishonor. It is a great sign of disrespect, and Mulan knows this. That is why she immediately apologizes. Hercules is the son of...?

Hercules, from the Disney animated film Hercules, (1997) is based on one of the most famous heroes of Greek mythology with the same name! As it is stated in the Ancient History encyclopedia, Hercules is the son of "the mortal woman Alcmene" and one of the Olympian Gods. As a result, Hercules "was born a demi-god with incredible strength and stamina." It's no coincidence after all that he is very famous. His strength and his devotion are also demonstrated in his successful attempt to complete his Twelve Labors. Every task designed to test his powers and his wit was accomplished and Hercules was a hero! Remember the identity of Hercules' father?

Lilo and...?

This wonderful duo became one of our favorite Disney pairs back in 2002. Lilo (Daveigh Chase) somehow comes into contact with this little blue creature and she decides to take care of him as a pet. Her older sister, Nani, (Tia Carrere) isn't very fond of him since he is very energetic and breaks things. Nani is convinced that the little blue guy isn't a dog but (maybe?) a koala bear! Of course, this can't be true since according to National Geographic koalas usually "doze, tucked into forks or nooks in the trees, sleeping for up to 18 hours." (something that our blue friend never does!). Remember his name?

Who voices Mufasa in The Lion King?

Is there anyone out there that doesn't love The Lion King? Well perhaps there is and we don't judge! The Lion King is a very successful Disney film which according to Wikipedia was produced during a time that is known as the Disney Renaissance, namely "the decade from 1989 to 1999 during which Walt Disney Animation Studios returned to producing critically and commercially successful animated films that were mostly based on well-known stories." For us that love it, there is one scene that we want to forget, but can't no matter how much we try. We love Mufasa because he is the greatest dad ever! Beauty and the Beast (1991) is another Disney favorite! According to Wikipedia, Beauty and the Beast "is based on the French fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont." An animated film that attempts to teach children that what matters is on the inside, and that we shouldn't pay so much attention to someone's looks, Beauty and the Beast is a must watch. Of course, in truth the film gives mixed messages about this argument at times, but let's forget about that! Name this villain

We often talk about Disney villains and how some of them are hilarious or perhaps could be on the right. There is one particular female villain, however, that we know she is off the charts crazy! She exists in the universe of the animated film Sleeping Beauty (1959) which according to Wikipedia, is "based on The Sleeping Beauty by Charles Perrault." To be honest, there was no injustice done to this villain, she just wasn't invited to Princess Aurora's christening! Now others might just have felt indifferent about the whole thing. This character wanted revenge! Remember her name?

Ariel, as we've said before, is a mermaid. A mermaid, as it is defined by the Oxford Dictionaries, is "a mythical sea creature with the head and trunk of a woman and the tail of a fish, conventionally depicted as beautiful and with long flowing golden hair." The fact that Ariel doesn't have legs is the main reason she can't be with her crush Prince Eric! When Shan Yu is about to march against China, the emperor decides that besides the official army, one man from each family has to provide his services in order to save the empire. This character is introduced to us in the animated film Hercules (1997). He is part goat and part man. In other words he is a satyr, which according to Britannica is a "creature of the wild, part man and part beast, who in Classical times was closely associated with the god Dionysus." Although he has the appearance of a satyr, he doesn't have the general behavior that entails that creature. This character is very disciplined (something that the satyrs from Greek mythology were not) and this is why he is tasked to train Hercules to become a hero! Remember his name?

Cruella de Vil is introduced to us as a villain in the animated film 101 Dalmatians (1961). This sidekick is a raccoon named Meeko. Meeko is usually seen eating (food that he has taken from others when they weren't paying attention) and he is generally deceiving people to get what he wants. With all that in mind, it is safe to say that he behaves like a raccoon to the tee. According to Wikipedia, raccoons are "clever beasts", especially since "in certain circumstances, their cunning surpasses that of the fox." This character is introduced to us in the animated film A Goofy Movie (1995) throughout which she is portrayed as the love interest of Max Goof (Jason Marsden) that is to say Goofy's son! According to Wikipedia, director Kevin Lima originally wanted this character to be a girl "who was 13 years old, and spunky, and the most popular girl in the school." We know this villain. We don't like her, but her song is stuck in our heads for eternity! We don't like her because this character preys on innocent souls. Considering that one of those souls is Ariel, we can't be on this villain's side. So, it comes as a surprise to learn that in Hans Christian Andersen's story 'The Little Mermaid' this character "was not malevolent, but rather neutral" according to Wikipedia. Imagine that! A witch under the sea that means no harm. Well we can't imagine it because we're used to a very different character! Remember this female villain's name?

Who transforms Kuzco into a llama?

We all know that Kuzco is the main character in the Disney animated film The Emperor's New Groove (2000). But, perhaps we didn't know that "Kuzco's name is derived from Cuzco, the name of a city in Peru that was the capital of the Inca Empire" (let's thank Wikipedia!). Watching the film, we get to see an animated version of Peru and we love it! (and we can't deny it!) At some point in the film, Kuzco is turned into a llama (what a great and hilarious twist!). As we said, Kuzco is the Emperor of Peru. This position places him into the front, and may have provided him with a list of enemies (perhaps!). We all know that Kuzco has one real enemy! That person used to be the Emperor's advisor, so when the he/she lost the position, he/she didn't take it that well! We all know that Kuzco's enemy loves the color purple. What we don't know, perhaps, is that purple "is a color that represents madness" and this is why it was chosen for Kuzco's enemy (thanks again Wikipedia). Mowgli (Bruce Reitherman) is the main character in the animation film The Jungle Book (1967). A great piece of Wikipedia trivia about Mowgli is that while "in the novel, Mowgli is not as stubborn as he is in the Disney version [...] both versions of the character share their naïve behavior as well as their courage." The truth is that Mowgli doesn't do well with change, (he likes things to be stable and calm) so when he has to leave the place he grew up at the age of 10, he's not very pleased.
