Shonda Rhimes' Grey's Anatomy first aired in March 2005 and is still running to this day. One of the most successful shows that follows the lives of Doctors, nurses and interns in a specific hospital, Grey's Anatomy has managed to make us interest in a field that is difficult to understand and like.
While Meredith Grey is the most prominent protagonist (it is called Grey's Anatomy after all!) there are several characters that we love and we have seen them grow (and sometimes leave) throughout the years. Even if every departure is another hit that we have to take, some departures are more difficult to swallow. Most of the times this has to do with the fact that some characters leave because they have lost their lives, and not because they no longer feel that Seattle is their home anymore and move to another state or country.
For this reason, Derek Shepherd's loss (or Mark Sloan's and Lexie Grey's) have left a different feeling when they happened than Izzie Stevens' (or Cristina Yang's or Preston Burke's). Either way, we are sorry that we don't get to have them in our screens every week anymore.

This character was one of the main cast when the show started back in 2005. Played by Isaac Washington, this character is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital. From the beginning, we see that he has chemistry with Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and they eventually start dating. While Cristina has expressed her views on marriage, he asks her to marry him and she accepts because she loves him (not because she wants to get married). This becomes very clear at some point, and he decides to cancel the wedding and leave because marrying her would have bad repercussions on both of them. He returns briefly in season 10. She is a surgical innovation fellow at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and she moved to Seattle in order to get away from her abusive husband.
