Only A True Vampire Diaries Fan Can Name These Lesser Known Characters

The Vampire Diaries is based off of the book series of the same name however there are a lot of differences between the two. The television show was aired for a total of eight seasons. Throughout these eight seasons there were a ton of characters that came and gone. Some lasted for a long time and became regulars on the show and others did what they had to before they left the show for good. Either way, whether they were on the show for a long time or just a couple of episodes, every single character shaped the main themes of the show and were the reason for some of the most major events.
There have been a ton of characters, like we said above, but the most hardcore fans will still be able to name them all based off of a couple of facts and maybe a picture. So do you think that you have what it takes to call yourself an ultimate Vampire Diaries fan? Do you think that you know all of the vampires, werewolves, humans and witches who dared to step foot in Mystic Falls at some point on the show?!
Who is this woman?
This woman was featured on the show for a number of episodes before she was killed at her wedding to Alaric Saltzman. This woman was a doctor but also happened to be a witch with a twin brother who was desperate for power and revenge. Eventually he got the revenge that he was looking for when he murdered her at the altar of her own wedding. Alaric tried his hardest to bring her back from the dead but to no avail.
What about this character?
This young man, is actually not so young. He is the first immortal being ever created and was imprisoned by his jealous ex girlfriend when he fell in love with another woman centuries ago. The Mystic Falls crew awake him when they are searching for the cure and he follows them back to Mystic Falls. He seems to resemble another main cast member, Stefan. It turns out that he is in fact Stefan's doppelgänger which explains Stefan's attraction to both Katherine and Elena.
Do you know who this is?
This little werewolf blew into town when she got wind that Mason Lockwood was killed and had a nephew who activated his werewolf curse. She wanted to help him discover all that he is able to do and learn to accept his curse. She tried but Tyler kept pulling away from her. Eventually Tyler decided to leave town with her but she was brought back to this town with him when his mother had an accident. As a result, she was then used in Klaus' ritual.
How about this character?
This character was generally disliked on the show as he was a hard one to get to know. He was introduced as Elena and Jeremy's uncle but it turns out that he was actually Elena's real father. He gave her to his brother to raise because he knew that he would be able to give her a much better life. He ends up having a width cast a spell in order to save Elena when Klaus uses her in his ritual. This spell takes his life for hers.

This woman happens to be Elena's birth mother. She is also Alaric's first wife and the reason that he comes to Mystic Falls in the first place. He saw Damon feeding on his wife but what he didn't know was that she begged him to turn her, which he did. She becomes pretty close with Katherine, as they are distant relatives but in the end she realizes that being a vampire is not all its cracked up to be. She burns in the sun in front of Elena.
Who is this?
This woman came on the show in a bit of a negative way. She had kidnapped Elena in order to make a deal with Elijah. Her best friend, Trevor, had betrayed the original family decades and decades ago by letting Katherine go. Ever since Trevor was hunted by them and this vampire was hoping that Elena would be their key to freedom. She was right about one thing, Elena was her key to freedom. Her buddy Trevor did not face such a fate.
What about this witch?
This witch, or as he liked to be called warlock, was one of the first friends that Bonnie made that was like her. He quickly became her confidant and they shared a bond that she was desperate for ever since she lost her Grams. Eventually it is discovered that his intentions are not what they seem and she has to turn her back on her friend. This character and his dad are trying to get his sister back from Klaus.

This is the oldest of the original children. He is very loyal to his mother, even when what she is doing is not right. He is not very happy with what he is and he is certainly not happy with his siblings. He thinks that they are out of control which is why he has spent a great deal of time staked in a box. In the end he ends up dying for his mother and her mission to eliminate vampires.
How about this one?
This young lady, or maybe not so young, was the main antagonist for the last season of the show. She is a siren, meaning that she feeds off of humans in order to survive and she attracts them to her by her voice. She "serves" the devil, Cade, because he saved her and her sister when they were stranded on an island. Now she must bring him sinners in order to keep him happy and stay alive. She enlists Damon's help to gather victims.
Who is this character?
This human had no idea what his life would turn into once he entered college. He was a student at Whitmore College who befriended Elena Gilbert. The two bonded over their shared loses and were able to understand one another. He lost almost everyone close to him and his guardian ended up being Dr. Wes Maxfield. He was a member of the Whitmore family, meaning that he basically owned the college that he and Elena attended. He was killed by Damon.
This one is a little tricky!
This woman was not only the mother of Mystic Falls resident werewolf, Tyler Lockwood, she was also the wife of the Mayor. She had to take his place and resume the role as Mayor once he was killed. She struggled a little bit because she never wanted to govern but eventually she got the hang of things. She loved her son and did her best to protect him but in the end she was killed by Klaus as revenge for Tyler breaking the sire bond.

Now this lucky young lady was the best friend of Stefan Salvatore for many, many years before she was killed by Damon. Damon was trying to get in with the council but regretted what he did to his brothers friend almost immediately. She came back a few times in the series as a ghost in order to help Stefan stay on track. When Stefan dies at the end of the series she is waiting outside the school to welcome him.
What about this one?
Now this one may be a bit tricky if you didn't watch the last season or are not too familiar with it. This young man was an intern and occult studies student who worked with Alaric for school. He worked along side him at the armory and was very helpful in taking down the sirens. He didn't know it but his family was taken as a result of vampires when he was a kid. He ended up working at the Salvatore Boarding House.
Can you guess who this is?
This vampire was a recurring character for the seventh season as well as the major antagonist of this season. He was the lover of Stefan and Damon's mom for over a century and a half. He kills Stefan and Damon because he blames them for killing Lily but they are brought back. He takes pleasure in their torment from being in the Phoenix stone. Eventually Stefan and Valerie are able to permanently put him down and kill him for good.
How about this character?
When this character was first introduce in the first season he didn't seem to have much of a large role. He was the ex boyfriend of Elena's Aunt Jenna and the reason that she left town before losing her sister. He helped Elena uncover some information on Stefan before she knew what he was. Anna had compelled him to drink her blood, and Damon not knowing this killed and buried him. Later he was staked by Alaric who was worried about Jenna's safety.

This young lady is the daughter of a dangerous vampire hunter/pastor, Pastor Young. She came back to town after her father blew up their farmhouse with eleven council members inside. She had to face a lot of backlash because of what her father did but she befriended a certain original vampire who always had her back. She has known Elena since she was a little kid, Elena used to babysit her. For most of her time on the show she is unaware of the supernatural world.
What about this character?
This guy was the first hunter to appear on the show. He showed up in Mystic Falls when the remaining members of the council were blown up by one of their own. He began targeting the town vampires. Despite being a human he was very well trained and could hold his own very well against vampires. He is the one who enlightened Jeremy as to what he was. Elena ended up killing him after he taunted her about her brother.

This vampire is the first original to ever be seen on the show. He is the most trustworthy of them all, although that is not saying much. His brother has staked him and left him in a box for a long time yet he never gives up on him and stops trying to bring their family back together. In the end he leaves town with his brother in order to start a whole new life in a totally different city.

This werewolf blew into town after Tyler returned home from breaking his sire bond. She helped Tyler break this bond and the two became very close during this process. She seemed to have feelings for him but never acted on it because of his relationship with Caroline. Eventually she is in the wrong place at the wrong time and sleeps with Klaus. She immediately regrets it and ends up leaving town in order to find out more about her birth parents.
How about this one?
This woman is the mother of Matt. Matt is one of the most reliable and hard working characters on the show so its surprising that his mother is the way that she is. She runs off with her boyfriend at the drop of the hat, leaving Matt to basically raise and take care of himself. She comes into town when Vicki dies but leaves pretty soon after. She makes another appearance in the last season when its discovered she was turned by Katherine.
What about this character?
When this character makes his first appearance on the show its not major and he seems to just be a random guy who will never be seen again. However he ends up playing a much bigger role when it is discovered that he is a witch and a member of one of the most powerful covens in the world. He ends up sacrificing himself in order to save both his coven and his family. Do you remember what his name is?

This girl was Elena and Caroline's roommate in college when they first started. They were shocked to find out that someone had been placed with them when Caroline worked hard to make sure that this didn't happen. She ended up to be anything but a normal human when it was discovered that she stocked vervain water and a picture of her with Elena's dad was discovered. She was killed during the first week of school but her death was framed to look like a suicide.
What about this werewolf?
This werewolf also happens to be the brother of the former mayor of Mystic Falls. He came back to town when his brother died because he wanted to be there for his nephew. Once he broke the news to Tyler about their werewolf curse Tyler became obsessed with not breaking it. His true intentions were discovered shortly after he arrived and starting asking some mysterious questions. He was working with Katherine to find everything she needed for Klaus' ritual to break his curse.
What about this guy?
This guy made his first appearance in the last season. He is the long lost father of Matt and Vicki Donovan. He left town after they were born because he couldn't stand being in such a small town. Once he left he never turned back, even to see or talk to his kids. When he is dragged into all of the craziness of Mystic Falls him and Matt are able to build their relationship and talk to one another for the first time.

This woman is the other siren that appeared on the show. She posed as Alaric and Caroline's nanny for a while in order to gain the trust of their twin daughters. She knew how powerful the twins were and planned on using them as an offering for Cade. She hoped that they would be able to take the place of her and her sister. Eventually her plan fails and she is killed by Cade himself. What is this siren's name?
