Only A True Fan Knows What's Happening In These The Office Scenes

Pennsylvania: home to many historical sites and rich with a history of events that helped shape this great nation.  But, before you get caught up in a delineation of great names like Washington, Franklin, and Jefferson; let us not forget another, more recent great man that once called Pennsylvania 'home.'  Well, Scranton, to be more specific.  And that great man is none other than Michael Scott; regional manager of Dunder Mifflin Paper Co.  George Washington may have been the first president and the first man to truly begin to define the United States of America ... but Michael Scott makes us laugh.  Hard.  He makes us laugh 'till your cheeks hurt, and our sides ache.

Everyone claims to binge watch their favorite shows.  Do you?  Is "The Office" one of them?  If not, then you should probably just move onto the next quiz.  But, if you think you've got the stuff, if you think you know Scranton and it's restaurants and bars and shopping malls well enough, by all means ... take a risk.  You might just score 100%.  But do you know the difference between "Alfredo's Pizza" and "Pizza By Alfredo?"  It's tricky.  Jim, Pam, Dwight, Angela, Andy, Erin, Kevin, and the temp; they all know.  What about Creed, Kelly, Stanley, Phyllis, and Toby.  They remember all the crazy things Michael has done.  Do you?

Question 1

What happens during Michael and Holly's skit at the company picnic?

Someone like Michael Scott is one in a million. Or is he? Most people wouldn't have believed it if they hadn't seen it for themselves. But Holly Flax is, in the simplest terms, a female replica of Michael. It's no wonder that clicked like they did. Unfortunately, their romance was short-lived. Well, at first anyway. They do manage to reconnect here and there. But one of their most memorable moments is their fiasco at the annual company picnic. In true, Scott/Flax style, the two of them accidentally spill the beans.

Question 2

Why is Ryan (the temp) at Schrute Farms?

Dwight is an entity truly all his own. He's certainly no Michael Scott (as much as he may want to be). But there's really no need. His antics and his beliefs are his own. Dwight has often spoke of having tried to take Jim under his wing, when the new salesman first started at Dunder Mifflin, but to no avail. But now there's new blood, Ryan, the temp. And Dwight is more than excited at the opportunity to train him the proper way. His way.

Question 3

What character is Michael trying to portray?

If there's an office manager whose got a whole lot of ideas (good or bad) and alot of characters, it's Michael Scott. Hands down. Most of the people there know that Michael's shenanigans are out of the spur of the moment or when he feels he's lost control of the situation. In this episode of Season 3, he's done just that. And in a moment of desperation, Michael tries to refocus all the attention back to himself. It may not get the result he was looking for; but, luckily, Toby is there to reassure him

Question 4

Which big moment happens for Jim and Pam on "Casino Night?"

Jim and Pam. Probably the strongest, most interesting subplot of the series. Every successful show (be it comedy or drama) must have at least one, "will they or won't they" couple during it's run. PB & J certainly aren't the only twosome that falls under that heading, but they are the one we like the most. The only problem is that we never know who's going to make the first move. There are a few tense moments up until the "Casino Night" episode, but you have to wait two whole seasons to get there.

Question 5

Which Dundie is Pam winning in this scene?

Some have their Emmys, others their Grammys, their Tony's, or their Oscars. A handful of people even have all four. But ... man, oh, man ... if you don't have a Dundie, you're missing out. That's why every year, usually at the Chilli's, Michael is more than happy to bestow that little trophy to each and every one of his employees. Whether it's the 'Whitest Sneakers" award or the "Busiest Beaver," no one goes home empty handed or unhappy. Especially Pam.

Question 6

What is this woman doing in the office?

It's clear to anyone who watches "The Office," that Michael's brain runs on 'spur of the moment' 90% of the time. And the episode, "Hot Girl," is no exception. When Katy comes into the building to sell her wares, all kinds of emotions begin to stir. The boys all want her attention, while a few of the girls are jealous of the impression she makes on the men. But if anyone has dibs on the beautiful saleswoman, it's the boss. And he'll go to great lengths to make sure she knows it.

Question 7

What title does Dwight finally bestow upon himself?

At the Scranton branch, they're never short on reasons to celebrate. And Dwight spare no expense with his Thanksgiving Hay Festival. Complete with a maze, refreshments, and the annual search for the needle in a haystack, Dwight revels in some of his favorite childhood memories; but also manages to make some money on the side as well. But the height of the celebration comes at the end of the gala with the ceremonial awarding of the crown. You probably know who wins, but do you remember the winner's official title?

Question 8

What does Jim tell Michael the "closing ceremonies" are for?

Yes ... while the cat's away, the mice will play; which is quite often more than not at the Scranton branch. While Michael and Dwight leave for the afternoon, Jim notices a handful of games that have been going on around the office without his knowledge. Suddenly brimming with creativity, he springs into action and orchestrates the first Dunder Mifflin Office Olympic Games. Jim oversees the festivities and everyone has a great time. Until the dynamic duo returns, that is. Thankfully, James is quick on his feet and knows how to sweet talk Michael.

Question 9

What is Michael's hidden agenda on "Beach Day?"

To say that Michael Scott usually leaps before he looks would be an understatement. Most would agree that when you offer to give all your employees a day at the beach on Lake Scranton, work would not be involved. But such is not the case in the episode, "Beach Games." As usual, Michael has a hidden agenda. And instead of wasting everyone's time and explain the real reason behind their outing, he waits until the last minute to reveal his true purpose to everyone.

Question 10

What does Jim plan to do during the Christmas party, until Yankee Swap gets in the way of his plans?

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa la la la la ... Anyone who knows "The Office," knows that their Christmas parties are some of the best. No, not just because of the beautiful tree, or the goose grease, or all the vodka (that come later). It's so much more; the food, the party-planning committee, the music, or maybe it's the gifts. Of course that's where things get really complicated. Once more, Michael has over thought the meaning of it all and is extremely upset when things don't go his way.

Question 11

How do Dwight and Andy decide to settle their dispute over Angela's hand in marriage?

Such a big office, so many chances for office romance. However, no one expected that this particular affair would cause such a clamor. Dwight was Angela's man (until he killed her cat). Then Andy came along, sporting his charms, his smile, and his musical talents to woo Angela away. As to be expected, this does not set well with Dwight. He makes many attempts to reconcile with her, but Angela won't hear of it. With both men at the end of their ropes, they finally come up with a way to settle it once and for all.

Question 12

Why does Pam insist on waiting 'till midnight before going to the hospital to have the baby?

People are in and out of hospitals much quicker now-a-days than they used to be. It's nut just cuts and scrapes, but surgeries and treatments and ... yes, childbirth. As most would expect, Jim only wants the best for Pam, but doesn't always agree with her ideas. He understands why she's doing what she's doing, he just wants to make sure that their first child, their baby girl, isn't born in the conference room of Dunder Mifflin. As always, Michael is overly attentive. But this may be one situation where his attention is not needed.

Question 13

What event goes terribly wrong at Michael and Jan's house?

Michael and Jan. A match made in heaven, right? Why not? They went to Jamaica, he supported her through her deposition at corporate! Why wouldn't it work? Because it's Michael and Jan. She likes to push buttons and Michael has more than enough buttons. They do try to make the best of it, though. One night, through a crafty bit of manipulation, the two finally manage to talk some of the Dunder Mifflinites into coming over and spending some time. But not necessarily a good time.

Question 14

Why does Michael decide to sponsor a "Fun Run For Rabies Awareness?"

So many things Michael does don't make sense. Check that. Nearly everything that Michael does doesn't make sense. Why should a marathon to raise money be any different? Maybe it's because it's for a good cause. Nah. Let's be honest, Micheal's not that altruistic. But, whatever the reason (like usual), he demands that all of his employees participate in his idea; no matter how kooky it may seem. But he's carb-loaded on fettuccine Alfredo and ready to set the pace.

Question 15

While Jim and Pam are away on their honeymoon, who does Michael think he's being pressured by?

People need people. Kids need a mom and a dad. Husbands need wives and wives need their husbands. And Michael needs Jim; well, Jim and Pam. Without Jim there as his consigliere, our office manager begins to feel the pressure and real responsibility of having to make decisions on his own. After Michael feels that he's been legitimately threatened, he desperately tries to get in contact with the two; only to no avail. However, there are still plenty of employees left in the office to give Michael their two cents worth.

Question 16

What big news does Pam get during the company picnic?

The Annual Dunder Mifflin Company Picnic was full of quite a few surprises in Season 5. Michael ran into Holly again (in person, not with his car), Pam surprised everyone with her stellar volleyball skills, and Charles still had a chip on his shoulder when it came to Jim. Near the end of the tournament, Pam sustains a minor injury which leads to a trip to the local hospital. She never does make it back to the big game, but only she and Jim really know why.

Question 17

In the series finale, why does Michael come back to Scranton?

In Season 7, Michael leaves Dunder Mifflin. He leaves Dwight and Jim and Pam and even Jan. He leaves Scranton. For good. Once he and Holly are reunited again, they finally decide that they shouldn't let a good thing pass them by; not for a second time. Michael finally gets up the nerve to ask her to marry him and the two set off for a new life in Colorado. But, during the series finale, many of us wondered if he might make his way back to Scranton one, last time.

Question 18

At Erin's viewing party, how does Dwight end up with Jim and Pam's baby?

Some people can surprise you when you least suspect it. We never expected Jan to be sympathetic to Michael's feelings in the episode, "Money." We never expected Angela to say, "yes," to Andy. But no one ever expected to see Dwight have such an effect on Cece or Cece have an effect on Dwight. But during Erin's Glee viewing party, Jim and Pam find themselves at a crossroads when they realize that Dwight (of all people) actually knows what he's doing. For once.

Question 19

Who are these ladies?

Poor, poor Michael. He's a simple man with a big heart and lots of love to give. But, sadly, his love is never requited. Unfortunately, that's how he ends up having lunch with some of his 'friends.' Carol has finally broken his heart for the last time. Andy Bernard, ever the sycophant, seeks to cheer Michael up by taking him out some place. They happen upon these lovely woman, but who exactly are they? Do you remember this scene at all?

Question 20

Whose notebook is this with all the employees listed in two mysterious columns?

Michael Scott may have been the greatest and most memorable manager of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton Branch, but he is by no means the only manager. After he announced he was leaving, the employees are tasked with finding their next manager. Many people interview for the position, but it ultimately goes to a particularly enigmatic persona who doesn't really seem to care what they do all day or why. It's not even clear if he's ever worked in paper let alone sales. And then they find this list.

Question 21

Who is helping Michael host his last Dundies?

Michael knows that his days at the Scranton branch are numbered (by choice, of course). And there's so much to do, so many things to finish, and so many people to say goodbye to. But, and maybe most importantly, Michael must perform at his final Dundies award ceremony. As usual, it's a flawed undertaking at best. The only difference this time though, is that he has help; help delivering the nominations, making the announcements, and he even shares the responsibility of being emcee.

Question 22

What does Michael do to push Carol away at the Diwali festival?

Michael, Michael, Michael ... another woman, another impetuous decision. Not that that night started out as anything great for him to begin with; but in the way that only he can, the office manager finds a new and jaw-dropping way to alienate the one he loves. Again. If it's not overly expensive gifts or unwelcome advances, Michael manages to embarrass himself once more. Sadly, it's hardly ever intentional, but almost always yields the same results. We feel for him, we really do. More importantly, do you remember what it was he did this time?

Question 23

Who is the big name guest star in the Season 8 episode, "Garden Party?"

Deep down, Andy Bernard really is a swell guy. Much like his peer, Michael Scott, he just wants people to like him. Unfortunately, with Andy, the approval he wants most is from his family. Underappreciated, underestimated, and many times passed over, he decides to host a garden party at Schrute Farms to impress Robert California. But the truth is, he's just trying to garner his father's attention. Sadly, he's quickly overshadowed by his equally talented brother. Do you know which famous crooner played Walter Bernard, Jr?

Question 24

At the end of the episode, "Email Surveillance," who do we see making out in the back yard?

Privacy. We all need our privacy. Sometimes that means a lock on your bedroom door. Sometimes, it's a secret journal you keep hidden under your mattress. And other times it just means that you don't want your boss reading your emails. Is it the dirty limericks or the inside jokes; or could it be that you just don't want him to know that you're throwing a barbecue and he's not invited. Why not? Because, more than likely, if he shows up ... it'll just be awkward for everyone. Michael!

Question 25

On the temp's first day, who does Michael do an impression of to show off his wicked sense of humor?

Almost all of us are nervous enough on our first day at a new job. You want to make a lasting impression. But what happens when your boss is the one who makes the lasting impression. And not in a good way. As Michael begins to introduce the temp to everyone around the office, he also fires off a few jokes and does an impression or two as well. And, as we all come to see right from the pilot episode, Michael makes alot of people uncomfortable.

Question 26

Who does Michael fire in the episode, "Halloween?"

So you've made it this far, good for you! Of course this also means that it's time for a real curve ball! "The Office" ran for nine whole seasons; that's six more seasons (174 episodes) than the original British version. That's an awful lot of trivia. Right from the beginning (yes, the pilot episode) Jan makes it clear that there's going to be downsizing and at least one person needs to be let go ASAP. And, as usual, Michael hates the responsibility and puts it off 'till the last minute.

Question 27

On the night of Jim and Pam's wedding rehearsel, who has to take Andy to the hospital for his injury?

Dance, dance, dance! That's what weddings are all about after all, right? Well, that and the whole, 'bride and groom thing.' But, of course, Andy over compensates when he tries desperately to impress everyone with his fresh dance moves. That's when things go awry, as they so often do with our gang, and Andy suffers a fairly painful injury. The problem is, everyone else is off doing their own thing; and the Nard Dog is left trying to find someone to transport him to the hospital.

Question 28

Which Dunder Mifflin employee are Jim, Dwight, and Michael trying to keep in, "Branch Wars?"

Competition is fierce! And sometimes, even worse when the challenge is company wide. But when branches start trying to steal employees from other branches, that's when things can really heat up! Karen Filippelli (yes, Jim's ex) decides that she needs a little payback for the way she was treated at the Scranton branch. She doesn't vandalize the building, she doesn't throw a brick through Michaels's windshield; no, she decides to pilfer one of their best hires. Do you know who that was?

Question 29

Whose birthday does the party-planning commitee celebrate in order to distract the others from the current downsizing situation?

Jobs and occupations are full of speed bumps and hazard signs. As if people don't see enough of that while they're off the clock, right? So what do they need? Tenure? No! They need a distraction! And that's just what Michael sets his prize committee off to do when the rumors begin circling again. Dealing with the problem head-on might be the better way to go, but it's definitely not Michael's way. Don't focus on it; procrastinate. Don't confront the problem, divert it!

Question 30

Who does Dwight try to sweet talk into staying in the episode, "Customer Loyalty?"

People get promoted. They get other jobs. They move on. It's pretty much the natural order of things. But not for Dunder Mifflin's #1 salesman. Then again, there isn't that much that's natural about Dwight to begin with. And once Michael's gone, some of Scranton's best staffers decide maybe it's time to move on, too; but Dwight simply won't have it. He pulls out everything he has in his arsenal (no, not his actual weapons) to keep them there. Yet, nothing seems to work.

Question 31

Which local ad does corporate decide to go with?

The corporate offices come up with a way to try and boost sales and spread the word about Dunder Mifflin. Of course they approach the office manger first, but no one seems to realize that this is Michael Scott they're dealing with. When they show him the 'company standard' commercial, he's appalled. Michael convinces David Wallace to let him take a shot at directing his own commercial. And, in the end, it's not half bad. Really. But do you know which one they went with in the end?

Question 32

Which of Angela's cats does Dwight "accidentally" euthanize without her knowing?

Dwight has lived on a farm all his life. He knows how to grow and cultivate crops (okay, it's really just beets), how to serve wild game, and he knows how to handle livestock. However, most of us probably would not consider felines to be livestock. But, when Angela trusts Dwight to give her cat it's myriad of medications ... things kind of go south from there. And believe it or not, despite his many rationalization(s), Angela simply refuses to be persuaded.

Question 33

Which "themed room" do Jim and Pam choose when they finally decide to give 'Schrute Farm's B&B' a try?

Everybody needs to have some friends. And, sometimes, our friends need a little help from us. It could be a ride to the airport, or just borrowing a cup of sugar, or maybe they really, really need you to try out there newest 'agritourism' venture. Like their bed and breakfast- that also happens to be part of their beet farm. With Dwight already licking his wounds (no pun intended) from the unfortunate ending of Angela's cat, Jim and Pam decide to give him a break and post a positive rating on TripAdvisor.

Question 34

In the episode, "Drug Testing," what concert does Michael say he was at where he met a girl with a lip ring?

When Dwight finds "something suspicious" in the parking lot, he deems it his responsibility to get to the bottom of it. And why wouldn't he? He is, after all, a volunteer deputy sheriff (on the weekends). Whether or not Dwight's authority is genuine, is beside the point. Once he's made a loud enough of a stink, the corporate offices (and the real sheriff's department) decide to get involved. Now everyone must submit to a urine test. But Michael is nervous about his results and asks the assistant to the regional manager to cover for him.

Question 35

Where does Dwight go to work after he resigns from Dunder Mifflin?

Say what you will about Dwight Schrute, but he is a man of principles, a man of (mostly) good values. In this episode, he covers for Angela by driving all night to the New York office to turn in some paperwork that she'd forgotten. However, Andy sees this cover-up as an opportunity to get closer to Michael. He manages to convince the office manager to give Dwight an ultimatum: confess to the real reason for going to corporate or step down and resign.

Question 36

Who saves Jim from being attacked by Roy?

From the start, the subtle romance between Jim and Pam is just that, subtle. Many of their coworkers have their suspicions; but it all pretty much stays on the down-low. For awhile, that is. During an attempt to salvage their relationship, Pam decides that she and Roy need to always be honest with each other. So she chooses to tell him about the incident that took place between her and Jim on Casino night. Roy, already a little drunk, goes ballistic and is determined to go after Jim.

Question 37

Who wants to buy Pam's art?

Anybody who has watched "The Office" knows that the majority of the time, Pam is a bit timid and shy; especially when it comes to things close to her heart. She's very careful to protect her feelings and her dreams. But when she let's her talents shine, they really shine. Pam finally decides to display some of her art in a local exhibition. Roy obligingly shows up, but quickly dismisses her work and leaves with his brother. However, one other Dunder Mifflinite arrives and makes her feel truly appreciated.

Question 38

Which of Michael's relatives does he hire for a summer internship?

Michael's generous nature often gets in the way of his common sense. The majority of his problems usually arise from him trying to do good. Deep down he's truly selfless. But just doesn't know how to show it; or how to handle it when it's not well-received by others. And, in the episode, "Nepotism," that's exactly what happens. But not only does his poor decision making effect him, it quickly begins to impact the other employees as well. As expected, they all confront Michael and demand he fire his newest employee.

Question 39

Whose grave does Michael visit after realizing she'd passed away before he could meet her?

People sometimes use the expression, " ... you shouldn't wear your heart on your sleeve." It doesn't seem as though Michael has ever heard that phrase. Perhaps that's why his heart is always running away with him; and more often than not, winds up getting broken. Sometimes he falls in love with someone in a picture, or with someone who takes his lunch order, or some poor, unsuspecting woman who just happens to walk into the office. And then there are times where he's not sure what he wants and just goes with his gut.

Question 40

What happens to Kevin, that keeps everyone distracted from celebrating Michael's birthday?

It might be fitting to sometimes call Michael selfish, but not so much at other times. After all, he's human just like the rest of us. He just happens to be a human with no filter. Michael wants the same things that most of us do, he just has no idea how to verbalize it all. Such is the case when it comes to his birthday. All he wants is the same kind of joy and celebration that he shows to his employees on their special day. But, of course another predicament arises and he does his best to hold his temper.
