Only A Real Trainer Can Name All These Legendary Pokemon!

In the Pokemon world, Legendary Pokemon are mythologised in the same way that we in the real world tell stories about things like dragons and unicorns. In fact, some Legendary Pokemon are actual dragons, though we haven't come across a unicorn variation quite yet. These beasts are considerably more powerful than the average 'mon, and are distinct in that only a single species inhabits a given Pokemon game. This makes them precious, rare and super cool.

Other Pokemon are great and all, but Legendaries just do it better. From their stats and moves down to their design and character, there's something about even the most paltry Legendary 'mon (we're looking at you, Regigigas) that screams, "Catch me if you can!"

Today, there'll be no Legendary Pokemon hunt. We don't have the manpower nor the time to lead an expedition to catch all the Legendary Pokemon in the world. What we do have time for is a simple naming test, focusing on everyone's favorite kind of 'mon.

So, what are you waiting for? We'll only use pictures of these species today, so there's no risk of you getting your hand bitten. If you're a real trainer, then you'll definitely be able to name all these Legendaries.

Question 1

Name the Legendary!

Dark clouds usually follow the appearance of our first legendary, a glorious Electric and Flying type. On its days off, it usually enjoys taking a bird nap in the Kanto power plant. Brave trainers have lined up to try and catch it, though only one per game can manage it. In battle, it boasts an impressive Special Attack stat and access to some key moves in Roost and Volt Switch. Do you recognize this first Legendary, or do you need to call Professor Oak?

Question 2

Name the Legendary!

Our next Legendary Pokemon is the Fire and Flying variation of the three birds that form Kanto's trio. With its ability to generate overwhelming heat, it's a strong wallbreaker in battle, especially when paired with Choice Specs. You'd better hope you have a Water or Dragon type to send against it, otherwise you'll be hard-pressed to find an upper hand in battle. Like the last 'mon, this one's name is hinted at in its typing. Can you guess what it is?

Question 3

Name the Legendary!

The Ice and Flying bird completes the original Legendary triangle, swooping in on its Icy Wind to seal it off. While this Pokemon's usage went down considerably since the formidable entry hazard Stealth Rock was released, savvy trainers can still take advantage of its Special Attack potential by keeping the hazards off the field. With the right strategy, this Legendary can offer its trainer great rewards in battle. Maybe you already know all about this 'mon, in which case you'd be good for this question.

Question 4

Name the Legendary!

The greatest challenge for all trainers lies in the middle of Cerulean Cave - a stupid-strong Psychic type with the telekinetic abilities to turn its cave inside out. If you're not prepared to face it, there's no telling what kind of fate awaits you. That's why the game makers put it at the end of the game - you'll need all the battling experience in Kanto to be able to beat it, let alone catch it. But at least you can know its name.

Question 5

Name the Legendary!

If this 'mon looks familiar, that's because its genetics was used to create the Legendary Pokemon featured in the last question. With its binding blocks of life, humans were able to create the ultimate Pokemon. Meanwhile, this one tends to wander around quite aimlessly, seeing what sort of adventure it runs into. If you happen upon the miracle of running into it in the wild, be sure to catch it. Surely you know this Pokemon's name by now, don't you?

Question 6

Name the Legendary!

It just got shockingly bright, and we have a feeling it's coming from this Legendary beast. Of course, this is one of the three 'mons you stumble upon whenever the Random Number God sees fit in Pokemon Gold and Silver. If you happen to have a Master Ball on you at the time, you can catch it in about two seconds without any effort at all, though a real trainer would rather the challenge that comes with chucking a hundred Ultra Balls at the thing. What's its name?

Question 7

Name the Legendary!

Here is the fire variation of Johto's three Legendary beasts. With access to Sacred Fire coming off its tremendous base Attack stat, even Pokemon who resist its heat are bound to roll out of battle with deep injuries. Equally, this Pokemon is bulky enough to take a hit or two in a fight and dish the damage back out two fold. If you've ever caught one - or dreamt of catching one - you should definitely know what it's called.

Question 8

Name the Legendary!

The final Legendary of Johto's trio is a Water type, which rounds things off quite nicely. This Pokemon is famously known as the most majestic of the three, which is an impression you can take just by looking at it for a moment or two. With its incredible bulk in battle and its access to the stat boosting Calm Mind, this Pokemon can become an instant win condition right before its opponent's very eyes. Let's see if you remember its name.

Question 9

Name the Legendary!

Uh oh, it's that famous Legendary Fire and Flying type Pokemon from Gold and Silver. Although that sounds like a familiar typing for a Legendary, let's remember that this bird happens to be its own specimen entirely. One look at its stats is enough to prove that - despite its jacked up Attack stat, it also comes with some well-rounded bulk to boot. If you're a savvy trainer, then you've surely used this as a utility 'mon in the Ubers tier.

Question 10

Name the Legendary!

Keeping your gaze fixed to the skies above, you'll noticed the second of Kanto's two Legendary birds, though this one shares the secondary typing of Psychic. Its kit is not conducive to a Physical or Special sweeper, though it does happen to allow this 'mon to live essentially forever thanks to its incredible Defensive stats and HP. Since it's been almost two decades that this Pokemon's been around, all real trainer should be able to recognize it without straining themselves too hard.

Question 11

Name the Legendary!

With its access to Leech Seed and Recovery as well as Natural Cure, this Pokemon has everything it needs to last literally forever in battle. Aside from that, its decent Offensive stats along with the boosting Calm Mind can turn it into an effective Special sweeper in no time flat. You can't find this Pokemon in-game (without hacking into it a little, wink wink) since it tends to prefer hanging around Nintendo events. Its name has been famous since the second gen.

Question 12

Name the Legendary!

Our first Pokemon from Hoenn and the first of our Legendary titans is the Ice form, pictured here. Fun fact: this Legendary trio is based on the golems of Hebrew mythology. We're not sure how high the original golems' Special Defense stats are, but we're pretty confident they wouldn't hold a candle to this monster. Even the strongest Fire attacks can bounce off its mass without having too much impact. Since this is such a classic 'mon, we're sure you can remember its name.

Question 13

Name the Legendary!

This next titan is a more well-rounded Defensive Pokemon with a kit that clearly bases it around getting entry hazards up and slowly whittling away at the opponent's Pokemon. Its pure Steel typing gives it a huge amount of resistances, meaning only the strongest Pokemon can break through its impermeable shell. Brave trainers will find this 'mon in a Hoenn cave, and they'd better be ready for a challenge if they're looking to catch it. Let's see if you know this legend's name.

Question 14

Name the Legendary!

Our last titan is a solid Rock type, and one look at that huge Defense stat is all it takes to see how useful it is as an in battle wall. With access to Stealth Rock and the ability to threaten opposing Pokemon with powerful Rock type attacks, this Pokemon is no joke, especially when used in the PU tier. You can break through it if you have decent Special sweepers to challenge this beast, though it isn't an easy feat.

Question 15

Name the Legendary!

As all seasoned trainers know, there are twin Dragon type Pokemon in Hoenn who, like the three Legendary beasts from Johto, happen upon unsuspecting trainers quite randomly, presenting them with the opportunity to lock down the catch of a lifetime. Chasing down these elusive beasts is an adventure in itself, and we're sure you've been on it at least once before. If that's the case, this first twin should definitely have left a decent impression on you. Remember his name?

Question 16

Name the Legendary!

This is the sister twin of Hoenn's Dragon and Psychic duo, and she's just as mysterious as her brother. However, their roles differ slightly in battle - while the former 'mon is better suited as a swift, offensive pivot, this gal prefers more of a defensive role, as evidenced by her solid stat spread. She's been an incredibly popular 'mon since her release in Ruby and Sapphire - both games we're sure you've played through. So, what's this lady's name?

Question 17

Name the Legendary!

As you can tell, there were a lot of Legendaries introduced to us in Hoenn, quite a few more than the two earlier generations at least. This Pokemon was famously on the cover of Pokemon Ruby, which probably influenced your decision to pick it over Sapphire, if you did. Either way, you've probably faced this Pokemon in the Ubers tier since then, in which case you know exactly how devastating it could be. Its name is fierce and known by all true trainers.

Question 18

Name the Legendary!

The counterpart to the volcano Pokemon, this one is meant to bring about the end of the world via stormy apocalypse if certain conditions are met. Thankfully, your progression through the world of Hoenn will eventually calm it down - if your team is up to par, that is. This Pokemon is known for its devastating Special sweeping potential in the storm it always summons upon entering a battle. You should definitely account for it while team making, and knowing its name helps, too.

Question 19

Name the Legendary!

We're still not done with the Hoenn region yet! We have a couple more entries to go, actually. This generation definitely delivered on quantity when it comes to Legendaries, and this Pokemon is here to argue that it didn't disappoint in terms of quality, either. With its huge Attacks tats in both the special and physical sides, even well prepared teams must prepare to make a sacrifice or two in order to get past it. Since it's such a threat, you should definitely know its name.

Question 20

Name the Legendary!

This Steel and Psychic type, genie Pokemon has been a staple feature on standard teams since it was first released back in gen 3. A common set is the dreaded para-flinch, where it uses its Serene Grace boosted Iron Head attack to stop paralyzed opponents from moving entirely. It's a maddening thing to play against, so you're best suited to use it rather than face it. Another mysterious Pokemon obtainable in-game only via Nintendo event, all seasoned trainers should remember this magical creature's name.

Question 21

Name the Legendary!

This Pokemon's appearance in a battle is usually abrupt and utterly devastating. Sure, it doesn't usually stick around long in battle, but you can bet it'll take down one or two opposing team members before it goes down itself. Its kit simply screams "glass cannon", with busted stats in both attack fields as well as speed and simply abysmal defenses. If you're into hyper offense in the ubers tier, you'll definitely want to have a look at this destructive legend.

Question 22

Name the Legendary!

In seemingly no time at all, we've arrived in the Sinnoh region, where Pokemon Diamond and Peal take place. This is where we were introduced to the three lake guardians - Legendary Psychic types whose stories are household staples in Sinnoh. A trainer masterful enough to catch a single one of these is a rare fine, for sure - are you that trainer? Or are you the amateur type who relies on a Pokedex for Pokemon names? We're finding that out as we progress.

Question 23

Name the Legendary!

The second of our two lake guardians, this floating Psychic type boasts a lot of potential, as evidenced by its well-rounded stat spread. In the PU tier, this is the go to Stealth Rocker, with a huge movepool that allows it incredible versatility. There aren't many Pokemon at its level that can face it head on, though it's by no means invincible. If you happen to play PU, you've definitely seen it around, and have probably used it yourself. What's its name?

Question 24

Name the Legendary!

Our last lake guardian is perhaps the most specifically suited to a certain strategy - Trick Room, where slower Pokemon get to move first for a period of five turns. If your team is stacked with super slow, ultra heavy hitters, five turns is all you need to break some serious holes into your opponent's team. If you're not used to the strategy - or if you haven't battled much since the early Pokemon days - this little tyke's name might have passed you by.

Question 25

Name the Legendary!

The cover species of Pokemon Diamond, this towering Dragon and Steel type demands respect in the Ubers tier, and any trainer who doesn't grant it that respect will surely feel the wrath of its busted Draco Meteor attack. Aside from its ability to dish out super strong Special Attacks, this Pokemon is also well suited as a defensive pivot with its considerable bulk and access to Stealth Rock. Given its mythology in the series, you should definitely know its name.

Question 26

Name the Legendary!

You'd best be on guard if you happen upon this Legendary Dragon and Water type Pokemon in the wild. Because if you do, you'll need all your Pokemon to be in tip top shape, especially if your plan is to add this beast to your team. Its typing is unique, though it faces some tough competition for viability in the Ubers tier. If you've ever owned Pokemon Pearl, you've seen this specimen on the cover. Do you remember its name?

Question 27

Name the Legendary!

This next Pokemon looks like it's charging a mean Shadow Ball attack, which definitely does not bode well for its opponent. If the opponent happens to be a Normal type Pokemon, the attack should pass right through them without having any effect. In most other cases, though, this ball is going to hurt! The Dragon and Ghost type beast pictured here makes a perfect defensive pivot in the Ubers tier, and is used quite frequently to that effect. What's its name?

Question 28

Name the Legendary!

If this Pokemon's overwhelming Psychic energy is too much for you, don't be alarmed. As long as your friendly to it, it won't go reading your mind or anything like that. In battle, this Pokemon is commonly used as a Trick Room setter, though we've also seen it used quite effectively as a Special sweeper with its ability to boost its stats with Calm Mind. Since it's quite a unique looking Legendary Pokemon, we're sure you'll remember what it's called.

Question 29

Name the Legendary!

This next Pokemon has been one of the most heavily used creatures in the standard tier ever since it was first released. It's super easy to see why - just take a look at that move pool (with access to Stealth Rock), super jacked Special Attacks stat and all around balanced stat distribution elsewhere. At some point, it was clearly more of an advantage not to use this Pokemon than to have it as a staple on every team. So you should definitely know its name.

Question 30

Name the Legendary!

If this golem type beast looks familiar, that's because this is long lost, fourth member of the Legendary Titan troupe, and one look at its kit shows just how unique it is. Clearly, its stats are absolutely busted, eclipsing the average Legendary by a large margin. However, its ability Slow Start forces it to halve its juiciest stats until five consecutive turns have passed since it was released in battle. That alone makes it nonviable in standard play, though it's often seen in the PU tier.

Question 31

Name the Legendary!

This next Legendary is looking skeptically over at one of the other members of its trio, and who knows what it's thinking. It's hard to guess what's on a Legendary Pokemon's mind. However, thankfully, it's easy to look at its potential in battle. With its Steel and Fighting typing, this 'mon can break through unprepared teams if allowed a single Attack boost from Swords Dance. If your team has no check, you can pretty much get ready to click the X button.

Question 32

Name the Legendary!

This is the Legendary beast the last one was looking at, and we won't begin to guess as to what their little dispute might have been about. At any rate, this huge monster is somehow flying through the air despite the fact that it's a Rock and Fighting type 'mon with no access to Fly, but we digress. This was a huge threat as a sweeper in the standard tier back when it was released, and is still used as dynamite in lower tiers today.

Question 33

Name the Legendary!

Our last of the trio is the Grass and Fighting variation, and don't underestimate it based on its docile nature. If you give this Legendary Pokemon a reason to be ticked off, you'd best get ready for the battle of a lifetime. If allowed to boost up, you'll quickly find your Pokemon fainting around you as you can barely get its HP into the red zone. Without a proper game plan, you should just wait this confrontation out till you're ready.

Question 34

Name the Legendary!

It's time for this Legendary flying type beast to make its appearance, in tornado form as usual. We feel bad for the trainer destined to receive Hurricane after Hurricane attack in the rain, as is a common strategy used when deploying this 'mon in battle. Although, with its incredibly versatile kit, it's hard to prepare for exactly what it might throw at you. Since this Legendary Pokemon is part of such a famous trio, we're sure you'll remember its name.

Question 35

Name the Legendary!

As if that last Legendary wasn't intimidating enough, his relative over here is of the Electric typing as well as the Flying one, giving it access to a STAB Thunderbolt that will utterly destroy you if you don't have a counter or resistance on your team. With its access to the Prankster ability, it even has the option of moving first in battle guaranteed when using a non damaging move. Staring at this 'mon on the other end of the battlefield is like looking at a lighting bolt holding a sword.

Question 36

Name the Legendary!

This Ground and Flying type genie is so busted, it was cast to the Ubers tier before it was allowed to destroy the standard metagame any more than it did. With its Sheer Force ability, even a trivial attack comes off as a total atom bomb, and the coverage granted to it by its move pool make it a totally unreasonable addition to the tier. It's better suited to Ubers, where it can lie dormant until the metagame balances itself out. What's its name?

Question 37

Name the Legendary!

The temperature is rising, and there's a mystical sensation coming down from the sky above. It looks like a powerful Dragon and Fire type 'mon has come to pay a visit to this quiz. Hopefully it's in a good mood, since we currently have no Pokemon on our team that can answer to a Fire type attack coming off that giant Special Attack stat. Since this is the poster creature of Pokemon White, it doesn't take a genius to know its name.

Question 38

Name the Legendary!

Since Pokemon titles use duality, you already knew this next Legendary beast was coming up. Of course, it's the cover Pokemon on the Black version. Its role as such as well as its appearance would suggest a Dark typing, though most trainers are surprised to learn that it's actually of the formidable Dragon and Electric typing. If you place this 'mon on the correct Volt Turn team, it can chip at your opponent all day without fearing much of a response.

Question 39

Name the Legendary!

It looks like this ferocious Dragon and Ice type Pokemon is charging up a blast, and we should definitely clear the area before it can release it. After all, we don't happen to be Pokemon with a huge Special Defense stat. If you are, then by all means stick around, and we hope you're strapping some Leftovers to help with your recovery. Before you go off absorbing this hit, do us a favor and click the button with this 'mon's name on it.

Question 40

Name the Legendary!

This Pokemon has been a huge threat to the Ubers tier ever since it was first released in Pokemon X and Y. Its stats are clearly indicative of this, but it's really its special move Geomancy paired with the White Herb item that's responsible for producing one of the most devastating Special sweeper kits in Pokemon history. If you're playing with the big boys in Uber, you need at least one full counter to this 'mon on your team, unless you're running Hyper Offense.

Question 41

Name the Legendary!

While that last Pokemon represents the lighter side of Pokemon X and Y, this next one is having none of it. Any inkling of light and hope it comes into contact with will get swiftly eradicated with one of its tremendous Dark type attacks. Since its Dark Aura ability boosts all these moves, you'd better hope you have a bulk resistance on your team to absorb some hits. This Pokemon name is hard to pronounce, though easy for all seasoned trainers to remember.

Question 42

Name the Legendary!

The aura coming off this next Legendary Pokemon is tremendous, and we don't want to stick around long enough to find out what happens. You might since you're an adventurous trainer, but we've seen our fair share of stuff out there in the tall grass to know that this Pokemon means business. With its signature move Thousand Arrows, it can hit any Pokemon for some significant damage regardless of its typing or ability. Please just click his name so we can promptly move on.

Question 43

Name the Legendary!

This is our first of the great guardian Legendaries from Pokemon Sun and Moon. These Fairies each bring about their own unique terrain when summoned in battle, and the type of this terrain depends on their secondary typing. For instance, this is the Electric variation, so it summons Electric terrain upon entry in battle. This boosts its Electric moves and grants it an immunity to Sleep status, effectively eliminating that option from the opponent's arsenal. Since it's so relevant to the current metagame, you should definitely know its name.

Question 44

Name the Legendary!

Our next Legendary guardian Pokemon is the Psychic variation, meaning it summons Psychic terrain when it appears on the field. This means that priority moves have no effect, which is fitting since priority Bullet Punch from Scizor would otherwise be its biggest worry. Pokemon on the opposing team have to fear its tremendously powerful Psychic attack, boosted by the terrain of course. You'd better hope you have some answers on your team, otherwise this Pokemon will sweep you right off your feet.

Question 45

Name the Legendary!

Our last guardian Pokemon is the Grass type, boasting a huge 130 Attack stat. If it starts getting Horn Leeches off on you, you'll find your team whittled down to almost nothing in no time at all. Of course, this guardian will also retain its health due to the healing properties of Horn Leech. Grassy Terrain also heals all Pokemon's health by a small fraction each turn, let's not forget about that. If you're up to date on Pokemon, you should know this legend's name.

Question 46

Name the Legendary!

All it takes is one bad match up against this next Legendary Pokemon to learn of its wrath first hand. Without that sort of experience, you'll never learn a necessary lesson as a Pokemon trainer in today's current metagame: always keep an answer to this 'mon stocked on your team when playing in the standard tier. Otherwise, within one turn or two, you'll quickly find yourself back up against the corner with no way to land a heavy blow. What's this monster called?

Question 47

Name the Legendary!

Although this Pokemon was quickly banned to the Ubers tier as soon as it was released, the sad news is that it doesn't see much usage in the tier thanks to the strong competition it faces there. However, it gave some of its essence to Necrozma's new Dusk Mane form that was released along with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Reincarnated, this Pokemon now sits near the very top of the ubers tier in terms of usage. What's its name, again?

Question 48

Name the Legendary!

Due to its considerable bulk (including the extra bulk granted to it by its ability) and solid offensive potential, this 'mon was quickly picked up by excited trainers playing the ubers tier during the initial release of Pokemon Sun and Moon. However, as the Pokemon around it began to reach their full potential in the tier, this monster fell slightly to the way side. There's always potential for a budding trainer to activate its capabilities, and knowing this 'mon's name is a good start.

Question 49

Name the Legendary!

This Pokemon is one of the most distinct creatures released in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Unlike its contemporaries, it's been deemed suitable for standard play, though you'd better believe that the tier gods keep a close eye on it to make sure it doesn't end up breaking the metagame in half. So far so good, but who knows how powerful this Pokemon will prove to be? Its three new forms certainly speak for themselves up in the ubers tier. What's this Pokemon's name?

Question 50

Name the Legendary!

When this Pokemon was first released, moderators of competitive play didn't even think to auto-ban it to the ubers tier, since it seemed manageable on paper. However, after a day or two of utter thwompings in the tier, this 'mon quickly took its place up in ubers where it belongs, and it's even managed to earn top viability within the tier. This Pokemon's splash has been recent, though huge, so you should definitely know its name. Let's end this quiz properly, with a right answer.
