Dragon Ball Z is known for always conveying one central message through its many battles: try and try again to overcome all odds. We see it through the beginning Goku’s journeys all the way through Dragon Ball Super. He trained with Master Roshi for an entire year to compete in The World Martial Arts Tournament, and even then lost against his teacher in the competition. When he battles Raditz, he is easily overpowered by his older brother leading him to travel down Snake Way to train with King Kai. And when Cell proves too strong during their battle in The Cell Games, Goku dedicates his time in the Otherworld to become stronger.
The other Z-Warriors apply this same philosophy when facing defeat. Vegeta loses countless times, training harder and harder until finally turning into a Super Saiyan; Gohan loses at the hands of Frieza and several other villains before tapping into his full Super Saiyan abilities; then there’s Krillin, who always keeps fighting despite knowing the odds are against him.
With all their victories and losses in the arena, remembering who and how these warriors were defeated is something only true DBZ fans can do.

Raditz comes to earth to reunite with his long-lost brother, who happens to be none other than Goku! But Raditz gets quite the surprise when he realizes that contrary to his mission, Goku’s become the earth’s protector. After finding Goku at Kame House and telling him about his Saiyan heritage, Raditz decides to make an example out of Goku by taking Gohan, giving Goku two options: bring him the bodies of 100 humans or never see his son again. Nevertheless, when the Saiyans approach the planet to collect the dragon balls, Yamcha trains with the rest of the Z-Warriors for their arrival, volunteering to go first against them. Android 17 is one Dr. Gero’s strongest creations and he was made with one purpose: to end with Goku. Android 17 isn’t all that interested in world domination or even ending with Goku, but he still tracks down the Z-Warriors at Kame House to have a good challenge against anyone willing to fight. PuiPui serves as one of Babidi’s right-hand men during the wizard’s quest to resurrect Majin Buu; and just like the wizard, he won’t hesitate to end with anyone they consider weak. When Supreme Kai and the rest of the Z-Warriors follow Spopovich and Yamu back to Babidi’s ship, he volunteers to get rid of Yamu after he’s served his purpose. This leads the Z-Warriors to enter Babidi’s ship to stop him from resurrecting Buu, and Babidi tells them they must battle his three strongest warriors before reaching him. Despite his confidence, PuiPui loses quickly in the first round. Who gets rid of PuiPui?

Of course, Cell does away with all contenders until it’s Goku’s turn in the ring. Goku gives Cell a decent battle, but he surprises everyone by giving up to give way to a stronger warrior. During the Cell Games, Cell ends up facing an opponent he never thought would stand a chance against him in the ring. But when Goku assures him that this warrior has to power to finish him, Cell becomes fixated with seeing his true power. When Cell’s opponent finally taps into his true potential after seeing Android 16 meet his end, his first order of business is getting rid of these creatures. Who gets rid of the Cell Jrs?

Nappa is one of the remaining four Saiyans after Frieza ends with planet Vegeta and its population. He follows Frieza’s orders just like Vegeta and Raditz, going on countless missions throughout the Universe and conquering entire planets. During his final battle on the Sacred World of Kai, he faces off against two of the Z-Warriors, and with the collected energy of everyone across the Universe, one of them beats Buu. Ironically, he also seems to enjoy performing their introductory dance routine more than the rest of them, maybe even more than battling. When Frieza finds out about the Z-Warriors plan to summon the dragon, Captain Ginyu sends the Ginyu Force to end with the heroes and retrieve the dragon balls. Recoome makes sure to teach the Z-Warriors a lesson for their intrusion against Frieza, but ends up being no match against Goku’s fighting abilities. Guldo isn’t the strongest fighter in The Ginyu Force, (or even a strong fighter at that) but he has another ability that puts him at an advantage over any of his opponents: time-freezing. Whenever Guldo feels he’s about to lose, he’ll stop the combat midway using this ability. As a result, he’s able to go full-force against his opponents without them being able to move a muscle. He uses this ability against two Z-Warriors and almost ends with them if it weren’t for the intervention of a certain Warrior (he didn’t like Guldo to begin with). What warrior beats Guldo?

Piccolo wasn't always one of the good guys; like many other warriors, he starts off with one goal in mind: ending with Goku. Their first combat is at the World Martial Arts Tournament, during which he nearly ends with Goku. Knowing Frieza’s true intentions, Moori faces off against his henchmen and stands his own for a while, but is ultimately no match against one of them and loses his life. This gains him great publicity when a certain villain threatens to end with the planet following his Martial Arts Tournament. Dodoria is unaware that this warrior has been plotting to end with him for years, waiting for the right moment to strike. Of course, this is just a form of payback as this ability lets Bardock see the Saiyans downfall at the hands of a certain ruler. To continue on in World Tournament after the Jr. Division finishes, Goten and Trunks knockout Mighty Mask, a fighter hoping to make it to the final round of the tournament to face Hercule. When the Supreme Kai and the Z-Warriors head off to face Babidi and stop Buu’s resurrection, the number of contestants is narrowed down significantly, leading to a Battle Royale between the remaining contestants. The final round has them battling against a certain warrior that sees through their disguise and blows their cover in one move, getting them disqualified. Though he’s never seen in battle, it’s implied Dr.Brief and his wife lose their lives when a certain villain unleashes an attack that ends with every human on earth. Oolong's never been a fighter, but that doesn't matter because he has an equally useful ability: shapeshifting (though he’s not particularly skilled at it). As the years go by, Oolong decides to cheer Goku on from Kame House instead of joining him on his quests. Though Pikkon and Goku spend seven years training together in the Otherworld, Pikkon isn’t all that fond of the Saiyan at first. They face opponents from all around the Galaxy and make it the finals. King Vegeta is a mighty warrior who is proud of his Saiyan ancestry and their ability to conquer entire populations with minimal effort. When King Vegeta realizes said villain plans to end with the Saiyans to avoid them overthrowing him someday, he faces him head-on only to meet his downfall through one attack. Cooler originally faces Goku to teach him a lesson for dishonoring his family when he beat Frieza on Namek. Cooler almost ends with Goku and the entire planet, but after a drawn-out battle, Goku manages to stop Cooler during their first encounter. The second time around, Cooler’s remains fuse with a machine called The Big Gete Star and sets his sights on Namek, planning to use the Namekians as energy sources. Though he comes close to conquering it and the Namekians, two of the Z-Warriors attack him within the Big Gete and finally end with him. What two warriors beat Cooler?

When Bojack is released from his seal after King Kai's planet blows up, his first move is to travel to Earth to take over it followed by the entire Universe. He manages to track down several powerful fighters and end with them with the help of his minions, hoping to get rid of any possible opposition. The Z-Warriors soon come to the planet’s rescue, but Bojack quickly demonstrates that he harbors more strength than any villain before him. But with the encouragement of Goku's spirit, one Z-Warrior is able end with Bojack through a powerful, final punch. Who ends with Bojack?

While it seems the Z-Warriors have the fighting advantage by easily defeating Androids 14 and 15, Android 13 absorbs their remains to become an all-powerful being that withstands any attack launched his way. Turles is what Goku might have grown-up to be if he hadn't forgotten his original mission; he's relentless, spares no sympathy for his opponents, and takes over entire populations with ease. Turles arrives on earth to plant “The Tree of Might,” a powerful tree that’ll grow fruit that gives whoever eats it incredible strength. Soon into his arrival, he meets Gohan and the latter’s taken back by Turles' physical resemblance to Goku. After several battles between him, Goku, and the rest of the Z-Warriors, Turles meets his end through a powerful attack involving all the earth's energy. Who uses this attack to end with Turles?

Trunks lead a very different life from that of his Future self. In his time, the Androids decides to abandon their plans to rule the world and instead become part of the good guys (Android 18 even starts a family with Krillin). This allows Trunks to grow-up with Vegeta and also exhibit some of his personality traits, specifically his overconfidence. But there's one opponent that outsmarts Trunks by absorbing him when he's fused as Gotenks. Though Trunks is eventually rescued from inside the villain, he loses his life when the earth blows up. What villain blows up the planet, ending with Trunks.

Broly is perhaps one of the DBZ villains to have faced defeat the most. First, Goku beats him when they first meet on New Namek. Sometime later, Broly returns to get his revenge and after a long struggle against Gohan and Goten, the two brothers manage to defeat him once again with a joint attack. But Broly comes back one last time to face the Z-Warriors, this time as in a bio-form ready to end with all of humanity. A lot of the Z-Warriors face and his opponents in hopes of beating once and for all. Who beats Broly in his bio-form?
