According to the official Pokédex on the Pokémon website, there are over 800 different Pokémon as of October 2018.
It's hard to believe that all of these different creatures spawned from a franchise that started off as a duo of handheld games in 1996. Generation I featured 151 different Pokémon, starting with Bulbasaur and ending with Mew. That was the Generation that started it all, getting plenty of kids from all over the world so hooked on the games, trading cards, and anime (or cartoon, depending on where it was) that they still enjoy them as adults! Even if they aren't still actively into it on a personal level, many of those kids have kids of their own now, and their kids are more than likely into the newer releases (especially mobile games like Pokémon GO or Pokémon Quest) which surprisingly still prominently feature the original Gen I Pokémon. It's a thriving, internationally renowned franchise that is one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, and the highest grossing video game franchise of all time, with over 70 billion USD as of 2017.
Throughout the 800+ Pokémon, there are 18 different types including Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ground, Ice, Flying, Rock, Steel, Fighting, Ghost, Dark, Psychic, Poison, Fairy, Dragon, Bug, and Normal. They are set up in a rock-paper-scissors way, meaning that each type has weaknesses and resistances to other types. Every individual Pokémon can be either one or two of these types.
There are tens of thousands of possible combinations of types and species, which makes it be virtually impossible for anyone who isn't a Master Trainer to be able to readily identify the types of a handful of Pokémon from various generations.
What type is Team Rocket's iconic sidekick, Meowth?
Meowth is a feline Pokémon that's small in stature with creamy white fur except for the tip of its tail and the toes on its back paws. A golden, oval-shaped coin is embedded in its forehead. This coin shines brightly whenever the creature lays eyes upon a sparkling object, which it is very attracted to and passionate about. Meowth's signature move, Pay Day, barrages its opponent with a shower of coins, which a victorious trainer is able to collect post-battle.
Which of these types is Tangela?
Tangela is a Pokémon that is a bit strange in appearance. Its body consists mostly of light indigo vines, which part to show two large eyes that are surrounded by black. It has two legs and feet that look like little red boots. Its vines can be used to capture anything that gets too close, whether it's a Pokémon or not, but they will actually snap off easily when pulled on. Luckily for Tangela, the vines are always growing, so lost ones are easily replaced!
Who knows what type Kangaskhan is?
Kangaskhan is a creature that looks like it's half-dinosaur and half-kangaroo. It stands on two back legs that are incredibly powerful and pack quite a kick! Every Kangaskhan is a female, and is equipped with a pouch on its front that holds a small, light purple baby. Kangaskhan is incredibly protective of the baby and will only allow it to leave its pouch when it feels that it is in a safe environment. If its baby is threatened, the mother becomes aggressive, and will stop at nothing to protect it, no matter how much damage she sustains.
Which of these types combines with Psychic to make Mr. Mime's dual-type?
Personally, I find Mr. Mime to be a bit unsettling! Something about its human-like appearance gives me uncanny valley vibes. Its body is a mixture of white and magenta that's structurally similar to a wooden puppet.. Eugh. It's an incredible pantomime that is actually able to solidify air molecules and essentially create invisible things. Anyone who ignores or isn't impressed by its act receives a slap to the face, so make sure to pay attention when its putting on a show!
Which of these combined with Rock makes Onix's dual-type?
Onix is an iconic Pokemon for many fans of Generation I, because gym leader Brock has one that he greatly values. It has a serpent-like body that is made up of boulders that start out large but become smaller as it reaches its tail. As the Pokemon ages, the boulders progressively become more round and smooth. Unlike some other species, Onix is an aggressive creature that is known for attacking humans and Pokemon alike - especially if it is in pain.
Which of these types is the lonely Pokémon, Cubone?
Cubone is a small, golden brown creature with a creamy brown-colored underbelly. It's bipedal, which means that it stands on two legs, with distinct hands and feet, which each have one claw. It wields a single bone, which it uses as a weapon. Cubone wears the skull of its deceased mother on its head as a helmet, both for protection and because Cubone is a sentimental creature who greatly misses its mother - in fact, in the night, it can be heard weeping as it mourns her.

Psyduck is a cute, little Pokémon that looks like a creature that's somewhere between a platypus and a duck. Its whole body is yellow except for three tufts of black hair, and it walks on two cream-colored, webbed feet, which are the same color as its bill. Psyduck is constantly dealing with a headache so excruciating that it renders it unable to think clearly, making it easy to confuse. It spends a lot of time standing still, trying to soothe its headache.
What type is the snake Pokémon, Ekans?
Ekans has a serpentine body that's a mixture of purple and yellow, with small black accents. Its belly, eyes, a large ring around its neck, and the rattle at the tip of its tail are yellow. The rest of it is purple, except for a series of black lines along the length of its body. Ekans is able to use its tongue to sense prey, as well as whether or not it's in danger. This creature prefers to sleep wrapped around the branch of a tree.
Which of these four types is Mankey?
Mankey is also known as the Pig Monkey Pokémon, which is basically the perfect way to describe its appearance. Its a bipedal primate covered in fluffy cream colored fur, with two arms that end in boxing glove-shaped hands and a cute, little pig nose. Although it may look cute, it's actually a very aggressive creature that becomes angry over the simplest of things, like a split second of eye contact. Once a Mankey has been angered, its entire group will become angry too.
Who knows what Lapras' dual-type consists of?
Lapras is a unique Pokémon, a big sea creature that looks like a dinosaur. Its body is mostly blue with a creamy underside, and it has a large, grey shell. As this Pokémon ages, its appearance changes, with its previously round facial features slowly becoming more angular over time. It is a kind, gentle creature that sings beautiful songs to keep in touch with its brethren. Lapras enjoy to help out human beings when it can, and is actually intelligent enough to understand human speech!
What type is the licking Pokémon, Lickitung?
Lickitung's body is mostly made up of its tongue and its tail. Most of this creature is a soft pink color, but it has yellow stripes on its belly and a yellow ring on each knee. Its giant tongue approximately twice the length of its body. It has sticky saliva with a strong scent that will leave a tingling sensation behind after contact, but will cause a rash if it isn't washed off properly! Its dexterous tongue is also strong enough to effortlessly lift other creatures.

If there's any Pokémon out there with an unsettling appearance, it's probably Pinsir. Standing on two hind legs, its body is made up of a tough, dull brown shell with a gash of a mouth in the middle that's lined with razor sharp teeth. It has two large, spiked, grey horns on the top of its head which are strong enough to lift things two times its size. In the wild, they are used to capture prey and in battle, they are used to capture opponents.
What type is the egg Pokémon, Chansey?
This sweet, oval-shaped Pokémon has a body that's mostly a soft shade of pink, with some darker pink accents on the three growths on either side of its head, its feet, and the pouch on its tummy. Each day, it lays several eggs, which it carries inside of its pouch. These eggs are delicious, especially if Chansey is raised by a loving trainer, and have powerful nutritional properties. Chansey will happily share them with Pokémon and humans that need them!

Dragonair is a long, sky blue creature that has a serpent-like appearance. It has a white underbelly with two white wings on either side of its head. It has a total of three blue orbs on its body, two at the end of its tail and one at the base of its neck, like a pendant. This ethereal Pokémon gives off a mystical aura, which is heightened by the fact that it's incredibly rare. It lives in lakes and seas.
Which of these is the other half of Ghost Pokémon Gastly's dual-type?
Gastly is an aptly named Pok_mon that doesn't have a true form because of the fact that its form is over 90% gas. It often portrays itself as a black orb shrouded by a purple haze with large, almond-shaped white eyes that are too large for its body and a pink mouth with two big fangs. In spite of its fearsome appearance, Gastly is very playful and loves to play pranks on others. It also has a softer side that closely treasures the memories of departed humans.
What type is the imitation Pokémon, Sudowoodo?
Sudowoodo is a brown Pokemon with a tree-like body that is covered in yellow spots. It has two short legs and two forelegs that end in three green, spherical growths that look similar to tree branches with leaves. This Pokemon lives in the woods or along the edges of paths, where it takes advantage of its appearance to prevent itself from being attacked by camouflaging itself among trees. Its disguise is ineffective in the winter, however, because its spherical growths remain green.
What type is the wild bull Pokémon, Tauros?
Tauros is a bovine Pokémon that is widely considered to be the male-only counterpart of the female-only Pokémon Miltank. The two are polar opposites, however, because Miltank is soft and squishy while Tauros is imposing and aggressive. Its covered in light brown fur with a dense, dark brown mane that matches its nose and hooves. On top of its head, there are two large, curved horns, and at the base of its spine are three separate tails which are each tipped with dark brown fur.
What type is the little bear Pokémon, Teddiursa?
In my opinion, Teddiursa is one of the cutest Pokémon in history! It's a bipedal, bear-like creature that walks on two hind legs. It has a coat of soft, brownish-orange fur with a crescent moon on its forehead that is a light, creamy shade of tan. Like actual bears, it lives in the mountains, hides food for the winter, and loves honey. It even likes to take the pollen from a Beedrill and mix it with fruit to create its own honey!
What type is the long nose Pokémon, Phanpy?
Often found living near a river, Phanpy looks like a small, blue elephant with a stubby tail. It has big, floppy ears that it uses to fan itself when it gets too hot. Its ears have reddish-orange pads at the end, which match the one in the center of its short trunk. In spite of its small stature, this Pokémon is remarkably strong. It can easily carry an adult human - or send them flying by whacking them with its snout!

In terms of appearance, Oddish looks like the bulb of a plant. It has an indigo, spherical body with five big, green leaves sprouting from the top of its head and two ovoid foot-shaped roots. It can use its leaves like limbs to climb up things and hold objects that aren't too heavy. It's a nocturnal creature that spends the whole day burrowed in the ground to avoid the sun and predators, but at night, it absorbs the light of the moon to help it grow!
What type is milk cow Pokémon, Miltank?
This pink, squishy Pokémon is considered to be the female-only counterpart to the intimidating male-only Pokémon, Tauros, but the fact that each of them are bovine creatures is one of their only similarities. Miltank is a pink creature with black markings all over its body, the most notable of which is the one on its head that gives it a hood-like appearance. Its yellow udder produces up to five gallons per day of sweet, nutrient-rich milk which can be used to rejuvenate Pokémon and humans alike.

The water-absorbent body of Sandshrew is covered in a tough, yellowish-tan hide that's covered in a brick-like pattern. It spends most of its time burrowing in the ground, where it lies in waiting for its preferred prey, unsuspecting Bug-type Pokémon, to pass by. It enjoys basking in the heat of a nearby volcano. It can sustain falls from high places by curling itself into a tight ball, which also helps it to tolerate the damage from an opponent's heavy blows.
What type is this Generation III kitten Pokémon, Skitty?
Skitty is a precious little cat Pokémon! Approximately half of its body is a cotton candy shade of pink, including its ears, tail, and back. Its face has a crescent marking that is a creamy shade of yellow, which can also be found on its belly and on the ends of the pin-like growths at the end of its tail. This Pokémon is similar to real life cats because it loves to chase moving things, including its own tail, and its trust isn't easily earned!
What type is the rendezvous Pokémon, Luvdisc?
Luvdisc is a somewhat flat, heart-shaped Pokémon. Its body is a soft shade of pink, except for the small circular markings it has on each of its cheeks and its lips, which are both pale pink. These Pokémon like to live in warm climates and seem to prefer to travel in a large group with one another, with their numbers being especially considerable in the spring. When two Luvdiscs connect their lips together, their slender bodies can be used as wings, granting them the temporary ability to fly!

Mareanie's body is made up of a purple stalk. On top of its head, it has ten dense tentacles that look like hair. The majority of its tentacles are ribbed with three short spines, but the one above its face, which is slightly shorter than the others, only has two. However, this Pokémon is able to extend that tentacle when it attacks, granting it a third spine. During battle, Mareanie's first move is generally to attach itself to its preys face using its tentacles.
What type is Generation I starter Squirtle?
Squirtle is a small creature that looks like a combination of a squirrel and a turtle. Its turtle-like body and curled, squirrel-like tail are a light shade of blue. It has a brown shell that has a pale yellow or creamy tan underbelly, which has a lot of different uses! It can retreat into its shell for protection during battle, or for a safe place to sleep. This Pokémon is offered by Professor Oak as a starter in Generation I, but is a rare find in the wild.

As its name suggests, Caterpie is a small creature that looks similar to a caterpillar. It is often preyed upon by Flying-type Pokémon, but luckily, it has a few advantages on its side! Its green body allows it to camouflage itself among grass, while the yellow rings on its side resemble imposing eyes, and the red antenna on its head releases an unappetizing smell to ward off predators. Caterpie is small, but it has a huge appetite, and likes to eat leaves more than twice its size!
Diglett is one of these four types! Which one?
Diglett is a Pokémon that lives burrowed in the ground with only its head sticking out above the surface. What is visible is a small, brown creature that has two black eyes and a big, pink ovoid nose, but no one is really sure what the rest of its body looks like - though it has been confirmed that it has feet! Diglett feeds off of the roots of trees, and has been known to burrow near and even inside of trees.
Which of these types is the sludge Pokémon, Grimer?
Grimer is literally just a pile of purple sludge that has a big mouth with a gray tongue, and two large eyes with tiny black pupils. This Pokémon carries a strong, stomach-turning smell because of the bacteria that it carries, which is so toxic that it strips soil of all nutrients, leaving it infertile. It feeds off of the water found in sewage pipes. It is able to form new Grimers using broken off pieces of itself, and can even combine itself with other Grimers.

Bulbasaur is a four-legged, turquoise Pokémon with dark green markings all over its body. It has a bulb on its back that it can use to collect energy from the sun, which also contains nutritious seeds that can be consumed. This Pokémon is unique because it has been specially raised by Breeders to be given to beginning Trainers. Since it has always been domesticated, it is a loyal and well-behaved companion that is very rare to come across in the wild!
Other than Flying, what type is dual-type legendary Pokémon Aerodactyl?
Aerodactyl is a prehistoric Pokémon that looks sort of like a dinosaur. It's a light, grayish shade of purple with sharp, pointed ears, an pointed tail, and large, purple wings. It has a mouth full of sharp fangs and an overall carnivorous appearance, which is sort of true since it does enjoy to prey on weaker species, but it also enjoys to eat fruit. This Pokemon is extinct in the wild and can only be retrieved through the revitalization of Fossils.
What type is Generation VII starter Litten?
This adorable feline Pokémon is covered in soft, black fur. It has two vibrant red stripes on each of its four legs and three on its forehead, two horizontal and one vertical. Part of its face is the same shade of red, including its cheeks which feature two large tufts of fur. One of the most notable things about Litten is that it does not show very much emotion, even in comparison to other feline Pokémon, and prefers not to be given copious amounts of attention.

Morelull is a cute, pastel-colored Pokémon that looks like a mushroom. It has a white head that's large in comparison to the rest of its slender, stalk-like body, which splits off into three green, stem-like feet. This Pokemon is nocturnal and spends its nights moving from place to place, with a preference for dark, damp environments.

It prefers to live in moist, well-shaded places like swamps, where it feeds off of leaves.

Munna is an unusual specimen since there's currently no known confirmation of exactly what its body is made from, and it is capable of endlessly floating through the air. It is a pastel pink, rounded Pokemon covered in purple flower-shaped markings with five petals and a dark pink center. It feeds off of the dreams of human beings and other Pokemon, causing them to forget them entirely. While that may be unsettling, it has been known to use its abilities to relieve others of their nightmares!

Gothita is a small, absolutely adorable Pokemon. It has a black, human-like body with distinct sets of arms and legs, although it does not appear to have hands or feet, that has a white, angular stripe going across its middle. It has two bow-shaped feelers on either side of its head and another at the base of its neck, making it look like it's wearing a bow tie. Its face is purple with full, red lips and bright blue eyes, which it uses to closely observe its surroundings.

Mimikyu is a little Pokémon whose actual physical form is an amorphous black, wispy blob. It keeps itself hidden beneath a rag that's been decorated with what appears to be crayons to resemble a Pikachu, and it carries a small lightning bolt-shaped stick to be its tail. This lonely Pokémon disguises itself as a Pikachu in hopes that it will help it to make friends, because its true form is rumored to inflict mysterious illnesses on anyone who sees it.

Luxio is a small feline Pokémon. It bears a striking resemblance to a young lynx or lion. Its upper half is blue with yellow bands on its front legs, while its backside is black with a yellow four-pointed star on the tip of its tail. It has a black mane surrounding its head and face, which is much longer on a male than a female. The insides of its ears and eyes are yellow. This Pokémon prefers to live in a small group of its own kind.
Smoochum is a baby Pokémon that's half-Psychic. What is its primary type?
Smoochum is the baby form of a well-known Psychic Pokémon called Jynx. It has a pink and yellow humanoid body with a large head and a blunt blonde bob. Similar to Jynx, Smoochum has pink lips which are so sensitive that they are used as a way to identify and inspect new objects. It is a vain creature that prefers to stay clean, uses tree sap to moisturize its lips, and often checks its reflection to make sure that it looks good.
Tyrogue is a baby Pokémon. What is its type?
Tyrogue is a baby Pokémon that has a chance of evolving into three different Pokémon when it reaches level 20, depending on which of its Defense and Attack stats are highest, or if they're equal to one another. This humanoid Pokémon is a light shade of purple with brown hips that resemble shorts and brown feet that resemble shoes. It is an excitable creature that is constantly full of energy, with a fierce determination to never give up, no matter what.

Sandshrew is one of the Pokémon that is affected by the regional differences found in the Alolan region. Though they look similar to one another, it is a completely different type than its traditional form. In Alola, all of the Sandshrew were forced to migrate into the snowy mountains by volcanic activity, and they eventually adapted to their new environment. Alolan Sandshrew is much larger. Its hide has been covered with a thick shell of ice which prevents it from curling into a ball, but gives it additional protection.

The second evolution of Cubone, Marowak, is affected by the Alolan region's differences. Surrounded by its natural enemy, Grass-types, the Pokémon was forced to adapt. It has the same ferocity and aggression as its traditional form, but it is considerably leaner, whichh makes it quicker on its feet. It has a jet black body, and the skull on its head has a dark, gray flame between its eyes. The bone that it carries is longer, and it can use it to learn a powerful move called Shadow Bone.

Raichu is the evolved form of one of the most iconic Pokémon of all time, Pikachu. No one is 100% sure why its form changed, but Alolan people swear that it is from eating too many sweet, fluffy pancakes. It is much rounder than its traditional counterpart with a soft brown body that has creamy white fur on its paws, belly, and back. The tip of its tail is a round-edged lightning bolt, which it rides through the air like a surfboard.
Alolan Persian is a pure type Pokémon. Which one?
Persian is the evolved form of Meowth. It is revered for its elegance, and coveted by rich Trainers all over the world. However, it is also infamous for being a temperamental creature that will scratch anyone at any time with little to no reason. The Alolan form of Persian is an intelligent creature that is covered in luxurious fur that is softer than velvet, but it is a very haughty Pokémon that has a high opinion of itself. It has a vicious mean streak and rarely fights fairly.
Alolan Ninetales' primary type is Ice. What is its secondary type?
Ninetales is the evolved form of Vulpix that can only be acquired through exposure to an Evolution stone. Traditionally, Ninetales is a Fire-type Pokémon, but in Alola, it lives on the snowy Mount Lanakila. It is a stunning visage of pale blue, flowing fur with billowing tails that are tipped in white and wide, blue eyes. It is a gentle creature that offers its aid to lost humans, though it is believed that it does this to prevent them from wandering further into its territory.
Alolan Dugtrio's primary type is Ground. What is its secondary type?
The evolved form of Diglett, Dugtrio is one of the numerous creatures that is affected by the climate of Alola. In its Alolan form, it is regarded as a feminine Earth deity. This is possibly due to the golden blonde hair atop each members head, which is truly the only difference it has from its traditional form, other than becoming a dual-type. One sports a bob cut, another has mid-length curls, and the last has long, flowing locks that touch the ground.
Alolan Muk's primary type is Poison. What is its secondary type?
The Alolan form of Muk looks much different than its traditional form. It is vibrantly multicolored with green, pink, yellow, and blue. It has spikes of crystallized poison all over its body, but especially on its mouth and fingers, which frequently break off and can pose a threat due to their toxicity. It is a quiet, friendly Pokémon that will only become aggressive if it is not fed trash for too long. It feeds off of garbage-based species of Pokémon such as Trubbish and Garbodor.
Alolan Geodude's primary type is Rock. What is its secondary type?
Geodude is a dual-type Rock and Ground Pokémon. Its is a gray boulder with two arms, complete with five-fingered hands, eyebrows made from rocks, and brown eyes. The Alolan version's body is made up of a magnetic type of rock and it only has control over its thumb and index finger, because the others have fused together. Certain places on its body are more magnetic than others which causes iron sand to stick there, giving it black eyebrows and short black hair.
Alolan Exeggutor's primary type is Grass. What is its secondary type?
The traditional form of Exeggcute's evolved form, Exeggutor, is already a pretty tall Pokémon, but the Alolan form is a tower of a creature that is a staggering five times taller! The length of its neck and the vibrancy of the leaves on top of its head cause it to resemble a palm tree. Additional differences include a long tail which features two leaves and a fourth head on the tip. This head is capable of acting of its own accord to defend the backside.
Alolan Rattata's secondary type is Normal. What is its primary type?
Rattata is a rodent Pokémon that was over-populating the Alolan region until Yungoos, a predator Pokémon, was imported to handle the situation. In order to survive, Rattata migrated into urban areas and began to live nocturnally in large nests protected by a Raticate. They use their keen sense of smell to locate fresh food and refuse to eat anything spoiled. While the traditional form is covered in smooth purple and cream-colored fur, Alolan Rattata is jagged with black, brown, and purpleish-gray fur.
