Only A Hardcore Fan Can Match These Quotes To The Grey's Anatomy Character

For 15 seasons we have been watching the doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital save the lives of their patients. When this series first began, nobody quite knew how big it was going to become, but we all knew that we were in the midst of something special. This show has brought a whole new meaning to the word "emotional". Somehow the writers of this show are able to make us laugh, cry, and scream during just about every single episode. While it is no secret that most love this show, it is time to find out who the biggest fans truly are.

To ace this quiz, one will not have only needed to have seen every single episode, but they will also have needed to have paid very close attention to each one. We will be listing quotes from seasons 1 through 15, and all everyone has to do is pick out which character said it. Sound easy? It won't be! Some of these lines have not been dropped since 2005, so we strongly suggest brushing up on all Grey's knowledge before starting this one. One thing is for sure, by the end of this quiz, we will know once and for all who the true McFans really are.

Question 1

"It's a beautiful day to save lives.”

Let's kick things off with one of the more famous lines that have been used throughout this show. One of the surgeons listed used this line as a way to begin all of their surgeries. While it started off as a nice sentiment, it later became a superstition. The doctor in question would not feel comfortable performing surgery until they had uttered these words. It definitely became somewhat of a catchline for this character, so we are thinking most should be able to answer this first questions correctly. There are four listed names, pick out the correct one!

Question 2

"Reality. It’s so much more interesting than living happily ever after."

While there have been plenty of unlikely storylines that have gone on throughout this series, it has also showcased some pretty harsh realities. Since this show takes place inside a hospital, for the most part, reality is something these characters have to face on a daily basis. While this may not exactly be the opinion of all the characters on this show, one of them certainly believes it to be true. Even when life gets tough, this character prefers reality to fairytale notions of happiness. Is anyone here able to correctly match this quote to the right character?

Question 3

"Oh screw beautiful! I’m brilliant!"

It is no secret that most of the doctors employed at Seattle Grace Hospital are fairly attractive. Both the men and the women seem to have been hired specifically for their good looks. However, they are also all extremely bright and knowledgeable surgeons. While most people enjoy a good compliment, one of our doctors only wants to be noticed for their brain. Calling them beautiful will not gain anyone brownie points, that is for sure. While this one sounds like it could have come out of several different characters, we will assure everyone that only one answer is actually correct!

Question 4

"Just because people do horrible things, it doesn't always mean they're horrible people."

Believing that there is good in everyone is not exactly easy for certain people. When it comes to doctors, we have to remember that they have seen the best and the worst in humans. Patients will often lie about their circumstances or even try and trick doctors into giving them what they want. One of our surgeons, however, refuses to believe that everyone out there who lies is bad. This doctor always looks for the best in everyone, even when their colleagues think it is a waste of time. Can anyone here figure out which of these surgeons said this line?

Question 5

“Some lies aren’t lies. They’re love.”

Staying on the topic of lies, this one is actually an interesting statement. We have all had to decide whether or not the truth is always appropriate. Some of us will always opt for the honest route, while others tend to believe the truth can sometimes be hurtful. The character in question has clearly chosen to tell a loved one a lie. They made this choice to protect their loved one, but should they still be held accountable for their dishonesty? Lying is a dangerous game, and it is one that should be avoided as much as possible. Pick out the right answer!

Question 6

"I am woman. Hear me roar."

We will go right ahead and confirm that the speaker of this line was in fact a woman. This series is full of strong and powerful women doctors. They go head to head against the men all the time, and more often than not come out the winners. Each woman on this cast has proven themselves to be an excellent surgeon. Every one of them is extremely proud to be a woman, and some of them even voice their pride in statements like this one. Looking at the four listed answers, can anyone figure out which doctor actually said it?

Question 7

"I am not an ugly duckling. I'm a swan."

This doctor has clearly had enough of people passing judgments. This doctor knows that they are beautiful and they are not afraid to say so! People can be so harsh with their words sometimes, that it takes a strong confident person to really be able to shut them down. Clearly, this doctor has that exact kind of confidence. Also, let's be real and admit that nobody working in the hospital could ever be labeled as an "ugly duckling". They are all beautiful swans! Does anyone remember the quote in question? Looking at the listed names, who knows which is correct?

Question 8

“I’ve had to give up things, but what I’ve learned is that I don’t need much. I don’t need much to be happy.”

Most of the characters in this show have had to make sacrifices in some form or another. They have all lost loved ones, and some of them have even come close to losing themselves. However, a quote like this really makes us think. When times are tough and everything seems lost, we will still be able to survive. This character knew that it does not take much to be happy. We can lose almost everything, and as long as our loved ones are near, we will be okay. Can anyone remember exactly which character said this line? Only one of the options is correct!

Question 9

“I need the day off. For drinking.”

It is not unlike our doctors to need a little downtime. They work very long hours and sometimes stay on call throughout the entire night. Needless to say, when they do find themselves with time off, things can get a little wild. In the case of this doctor, they actively went out asking for the day off. It has happened maybe only a handful of times throughout the 15 seasons of this show. These doctors are obsessed with working, but when the mood strikes, what can they do? Four names are listed, only one of them happens to be the speaker of this quote.

Question 10

“The expected is what keeps us steady. It’s the unexpected that changes our lives forever.”

Now here are some pretty wise words. It is true to say that the expected things that happen to us daily, ensure our stability. We do not need to plan for them, because we already know that they are coming. However, when the unexpected things occur, we never quite know where they will lead us. Sometimes they are a welcome thing, and sometimes they are not. Our true strength can only be measured in how we tackle these unexpected issues. It is not an easy thing to do, and some of us are better than others at dealing with them.

Question 11

"Mistakes are painful, but they're the only way to find out who we really are."

There is simply no denying that each of our characters has made some pretty hefty mistakes in their past. Then again, who hasn't? Our characters are only human after all, and everyone is bound to make a few mistakes from time to time. That being said, when we have the lives of people in our hands, mistakes can be a much bigger deal than just forgetting to pick up the milk. These characters all have to deal with the reality of their responsibilities. Is this ringing any bells for anyone? Who here is able to pick out the right answer for this question?

Question 12

“In the beginning everyone is there, but then they forget.”

Now, this quote is actually a little sad. Most of our characters are doctors, so they have witnessed all kinds of family dynamics. They have seen how a patient can sometimes start their treatment with a crowd of people around them, but lose more and more of their support group as the time passes. It is nobody's fault, people get busy and preoccupied with their own lives, but for the person in the hospital bed, it can be a sad thing. Does anyone remember hearing this line in one of the episodes? Who knows which character actually said these words?

Question 13

"Knowing is better than wondering. Waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beats the hell out of never trying."

While sometimes it seems like not knowing is the best option, this is not always the case. Being left in the dark can cause panic and stress over something that is not even real. Even if the news is bad, it is better to know about it than to sit and wonder. These doctors know all too well what it is like to try something and have it not work out. After all, medical school is no walk in the park. However, none of them would change anything about their past. Can anyone here figure out which of these names is correct?

Question 14

"The future is the home of our deepest fears and our wildest hopes."

While looking into the future can sometimes seem a bit daunting, it can also be a very exciting thing. It is something that we all do. We wonder, we plan, we picture ourselves and where we will be in a few years. That being said, thinking too hard about the future can sometimes be worrisome. It is human nature to worry, so envisioning a future we have no knowledge of can lead us to form all kinds of scenarios. While it would be peaceful to think that these are always nice scenarios, we all know that is simply not the truth at all.

Question 15

“Not everyone has to be happy all the time. That isn’t metal health. That’s crap.”

This quote is funny and it is true! It is impossible to think that anyone could be happy 100% all the time, and this doctor clearly was not going to pretend otherwise. To be fair, the characters in this show are usually a little more "down in the dumps" than most people, but hey, at least they are honest about it! These days it is just too easy to put on a fake face when heading out into the world. Even if we aren't feeling our best, it is always better to be honest about it, right? Take a guess?

Question 16

“Let’s play a game of whose life sucks the most. I’ll win. I always win.”

When hanging out with the doctors of Seattle Grace, this game becomes specifically tough to win. For the most part, they have all seen some pretty intense stuff. Some of them have been having a rough time since childhood, while others only had their troubles start once on the job. Thinking about each of these characters, who seems to go through the roughest stuff? It may be a hard list to narrow down, but it is possible for those who know these doctors extremely well. Does anyone here know who we are talking about in this question? Take a guess!

Question 17

“I take things personally. I get emotional.”

Who doesn't? This doctor is very open and honest about how certain things affect them. While some people tend to think that admitting emotions or feelings can make them look weak, this doctor knows that accepting one's feelings is one of the strongest things a person can do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting emotional from time to time, and that is certainly a good thing for fans of this show. It is just about impossible to watch an episode without feeling some form of emotion. Looking at the listed names, who here can figure out which is correct?

Question 18

“Pretty good is not good enough, I want to be great.”

When we previously said that these doctors are obsessed with work, we really meant it. Not only did they spend many years in medical school, but even after graduating, they had to put in long hours and hard work to make it through their intern year. Even with all of the knowledge they gained from both school and their internship, most of them are still striving for more. One of these doctors, in particular, will not settle for anything less than being the best. They know they can do it, so why stop until this dream has officially been achieved?

Question 19

“Let’s just make-out on the couch.”

While most of their time is spent in the operating room, these doctors still do find time to date occasionally. Since they do not often get much time off, they tend to date people they know from work. This has lead to many of them dating the same people, and it has also caused them to actually go on a lot of their dates inside of the hospital itself. Even when they do make it out of the hospital, alone time can be hard to find. Most of these characters live with each other, so finding a quiet place to take a date is not always easy...

Question 20

"No one holds a scalpel until I'm so happy I'm Mary Freaking Poppins."

Our doctors are often running on very little sleep and sometimes no food at all. Clearly, this can cause them to be a little irritated from time to time. Since the job itself is also quite stressful, the higher ranking doctors often tend to snap at the newer additions to the staff. In their defense, the interns can sometimes get a little unruly. One of the higher ranking doctors specifically has had to lay down the law a few times with certain interns. The best way for them to get results is always to withhold surgeries. They know how badly the newbies want in on the action!

Question 21

“Don’t look at me like that. Like I’m damaged goods. I’m still me. I’m still here.”

The relationships our doctors share are some of the most meaningful ones to ever be written for a television series. They love deeply and when something comes between them and their loved ones, they will always react appropriately. One of our characters went through an event which caused them to think they would be seen differently. Not wanting this to happen, they said this line. It was an emotional scene, and more than one tear was shed during the speech. Is this ringing any bells for anyone? Looking at the listed options, can anyone here figure out which is correct?

Question 22

“We’re adults. When did that happen? How do we make it stop?”

It is fair to say that most of us have had this realization at some point or another. Some of us tend to realize this fact on a daily basis. One day we are living our lives as carefree teenagers, then we blink and we are all grown up with the entire world balancing on our shoulders. When it comes to the characters of this show, they really do carry around the world on their shoulders. Every day for them is a risk, but where would their patients be without them? Does anyone here know which if these characters said it?

Question 23

“Shut up. Dance it out.”

Since their day to day life can be a bit tough to deal with, these doctors have had to come up with different ways to push their worries and stress aside. After all, nobody is going to benefit from having a stressed out doctor, right? Some of them fish, some of them knit, and some of them dance. A few of our characters have been seen ending a long day with some good old fashioned dance moves, but only one of them has ever said this exact line. Does anyone here know who we are talking about in this question? Take a guess!

Question 24

“Please don’t give up on me. Promise."

The doctor who said this line was going through quite a rough patch in their life. They had gone through something very intense, and it started to affect their overall attitude and outlook. While this doctor could feel themselves getting grouchier by the day, they could not figure out how to stop it from consuming them. When they started to feel their loved one pulling away, they said this line. They knew they had to pull themselves out of their funk, but they also knew they were not going to be able to do it on their own. Any guesses?

Question 25

“This is the way the world changes. Good people, raising babies right”

We all have to believe that this is a true statement. This doctor clearly saw another character doing right by their child, and felt the need to express how they felt about it. As surgeons, these characters have seen every kind of parent imaginable. Even when they don't agree with their patients' parenting techniques, they cannot really say anything about it. So naturally, if they see one of their colleagues doing things the right way, they feel the need to let them know of all the good they are doing. Not just for the child's life either, but for the entire world.

Question 26

“The problem is we are human. We want more than to just survive. We want to love.”

What fun would life be if we were all just simply trying to survive? As humans, we want more out of life than this. One of our doctors knew this first hand. They knew that it is not enough to simply exist. They knew that our true purpose in life is to love. Whether we find love in a significant other, a family member, or even in a stranger, love will always be the most powerful force on earth. Does anyone remember hearing this line during one of the episodes? We have listed four names, but only one of them is correct!

Question 27

"He’s acting like I kept my apartment to hide stolen goods, so I could do illegal organ transplants for money."

Okay here is a funny line to lighten up the mood a little. While this show can get pretty serious, the writers are always sure to add in a few comical lines to ensure we are not all drowning in our tears. One of our characters decided it was time to move in with their boyfriend. Not being totally comfortable with the notion, they decided to keep their apartment as a backup. When their boyfriend found out, they were pretty upset. The doctor in question simply did not understand what the problem was. Which of these four doctors said it?

Question 28

"When we follow our hearts, when we choose not to settle. It's funny, isn't it? A weight lifts, the sun shines a little brighter."

To help everyone out a little, we will share the full version of this quote here. "When we follow our hearts, when we choose not to settle. It's funny, isn't it? A weight lifts, the sun shines a little brighter, and for a brief moment, we find a little peace.". The doctor who used this line knew how easy it was to settle. They had tried to settle in many aspects of their life, but their true desires always pushed them not to. Whether we are talking about relationships or med school, this doctor clearly does not regret their decisions.

Question 29

"After the storm, after the rush, after the heat of the moment has passed, we can cool off and clean up the messes we made. We can try to let go of what was."

Once again we are going to write the full quote here to hopefully give a bit more context. "The body is a slave to its impulses. But the thing that makes us human is what we can control. After the storm, after the rush, after the heat of the moment has passed, we can cool off and clean up the messes we made. We can try to let go of what was." This is sometimes easier said than done. It is not always easy to let go and forget, but for the most part, it is the healthiest thing we can do!

Question 30

“Why do we even try when the barriers are so high and the odds are so low? Why don’t we just pack it in and go home?”

The doctor who said this has faced many struggles throughout their life. Often they had contemplated just giving up altogether, but for whatever reason, they always managed to pull through. It is true that sometimes the odds are not always in our favor (just ask the kids from The Hunger Games), but it is also true that as humans we usually try to find a way to prevail anyways. We must always remember that nothing is impossible if we do not want it to be! Can anyone here figure out which character actually said these words? Take a guess!

Question 31

“Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then look around. Drink it in, 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow.”

Now here is some great advice we should all be taking. Even those of us who are the most goal-oriented and determined, have to remember the importance of having fun once in a while. It is so easy to get wrapped up in our lives, that we actually forget to go out and live. We put so much energy into work, studies and projects, but what good is all of that if we are not also enjoying ourselves at the same time? Does anyone remember hearing this quote? Only one of the four listed answers is correct, who knows which?

Question 32

“Every kiss before the right kiss doesn’t count anyway”

Is this not the most romantic thing ever said? Okay okay, so maybe that is a bit of a stretch, but come on, the quote is pretty romantic! While the character in question had certainly kissed their fair share of people in the past, they knew none of them mattered until they finally smooched their soul mate. They could feel the difference in the kiss. They knew that they were not just kissing one more person, but instead, they were kissing the person they were meant to be with forever. We take it back, this truly is the most romantic line ever...

Question 33

"The problem is, fairytales don't come true. It's the nightmares that always seem to become the reality."

Well, this is not exactly the happiest way to look at things. While some of our doctors were born optimists, some of them were certainly born pessimists. To be fair, they have all seen their fair share of nightmares come true. Whether they were their own, or they watched a patient go through it, the result is always the same. It is sad. However, a lot of them have also seen miracles happen right before their eyes, so this quote may be a bit extreme. Who here knows which character said it? Pick out the right answer from the listed options!

Question 34

“I didn’t like teenage girls when I was a teenage girl.”

Here we go with another funny line. This character was being forced to work closely with a group of young girls. Clearly, this was not their idea of a day well spent. The character in question is not the best at dealing with people anyways, but apparently even worse when dealing with teenage girls. Thinking of all the lady characters in this show, can anyone think of one who probably never acted like a typical teenager? The answer should not be too difficult to come up with. Looking at the four listed options, can anyone figure out who we are talking about?

Question 35

“Do not alarm the makers of the tiny humans."

The term "tiny humans" is used frequently throughout this series. It is usually how the pediatric doctors refer to the children they care for. It is an adorable term, but not everyone enjoys it as much as the others. In one episode, something was going wrong in the pediatric ward. Not wanting to alarm anyone, a doctor used this line to express the importance of keeping the parents of the children calm. It is no secret that a parent whose kid is in danger can become quite a danger themselves. Can anyone here guess which character actually said these words?

Question 36

“Don’t analyze everything. Just do it.”

Okay we swear we did not pull this one from a Nike ad, it was actually said by one of the show's characters. This was actually some pretty good advice. It took a few seasons before the speaker of this line was someone others would turn to for advice. They were not known for being kind, so often times people would avoid discussing things with them. However, sometimes the fact that they were so blunt about things, actually made their advice more meaningful. This quote was one of those meaningful times. Can anyone here figure out which character said it?

Question 37

“That’s where love exists, in delusional fantasies.”

Clearly whoever dropped this line had recently gone through some relationship troubles. While it would be hard to pick out a character who has not gone through some form of relationship drama, it would be just as difficult to pick one out who hasn't been part of a meaningful relationship at one point in their lives. When these doctors fall, they fall hard. They tend to love with everything they have, so naturally, when things don't work out, it can be disheartening. Does anyone have an idea of who the speaker may be? Only one of the listed options is correct!

Question 38

“I’m a superstar. A superstar with a scalpel.”

Clearly, the speaker of this quote was well aware of their talents in the operating room. This surgeon knew they were good and they did not seem to mind sharing the information with others. Like in other fields of work, surgery can get competitive. Especially in this hospital, everyone wants to be the best. None of these characters are prepared to be second best, and this one in particular wanted to make sure their talents were known. We can confirm that the character who said this, is in fact a superstar with a scalpel! Pick out the correct name for this question.

Question 39

"Have some fire. Be unstoppable. Be a force of nature."

Here are some words of wisdom for everyone. The surgeon who dropped this line was fed up about fellow surgeons who were complaining. One of their colleagues was annoyed that everything seemed to be happening without them. They were not feeling confident in their work, their love life, or in their relationship with their friends. This surgeon simply told them to stop accepting that bad stuff, and start demanding better. Be better, try harder, act like the best and it will become true! It was not a mean thing, it was an honest piece of advice. Does anyone know who said it?

Question 40

"Friends are the family we choose."

This one may not be a super original line, but it does pack quite a bit of truth behind it. It does not matter what kind of home we come from. Even if we love our family more than anything else in the entire world, one day we will eventually go out and make some friends. Friends are not forced upon us, and when they are, the bond is never quite the same. To go out and select someone as a friend, it means that they are truly meant for us. Can anyone here figure out which of these characters said the line?

Question 41

"It's good to be scared. It means you still have something to lose."

The doctor who said this was often dishing out thoughtful quotes and advice. They had seen a lot of the world already, so when interns would approach them with an issue, they usually knew the right thing to say. This quote can be true in many different areas in life. If we don't have a bit of fear in us, what do we really care about when it comes down to it? While we should not be walking around on eggshells, it is nice to know that some things matter so much that we actively fear losing them. Who said it?

Question 42

"The carousel never stops turning."

Now here we have a very iconic quote. This line was said on many different occasions, but its origin has also been mentioned many times. The character who first used this used it as a metaphor for life. We are always growing, always changing, always adapting. However, if we are to try and stop, the world will continue to roll on without us. Our best bet is always to roll with the punches, and to stop stressing the things we cannot change. We will age, we will have bad days, but we will also always have good ones! Who said it first?

Question 43

"Somebody sedate me."

Okay, this one is a little intense. It is no secret that our doctors have gone through a lot during their time at Seattle Grace Hospital. However, when one of our doctors got worked up enough to actually ask to be sedated, it wasn't following one of the big traumas. This character was feeling a rush of emotion they had never experienced. They would avoid crying whenever possible, but eventually, all of those skipped tears came to the surface. Once the waterworks started, they were unable to be stopped. That is why the request became necessary. Who said it?

Question 44

"So pick me. Choose me. Love me."

It took this character a long time to figure out what they wanted in life. They had spent so much time focusing on their work, that when the opportunity for love came around, they weren't too quick to jump on it. They waited a while, went back and forth with their decision, but then ultimately decided they wanted to make it work. Of course, they waited until the other was seeing someone else before they came to this realization, but everything did end up working out in the end. Can anyone here remember who said this epic line? Take a guess!

Question 45

"As human beings, sometimes it’s better to stay in the dark, because in the dark there may be fear, but there is also hope."

Here is an opposite look at something we had talked about before. In a previous question, a character had talked about why it was better to always know than to walk around wondering. This character, on the other hand, sees things a little differently. While this character did, in fact, believe in being well informed, they also realized how sometimes hope can be the most important thing. This opinion makes sense from a doctor's perspective. Before approaching a patient's family with news, they can see the hope that they are holding onto. Can anyone here figure out which character said it?
