It's Grease Lightening! Go Grease Lightening! Go Grease Lightening! Okay, now that we got you singing along, we are going to test how well you remember this 80s classic. This movie had a soundtrack so good that it was still on the list of best Soundtracks over 20 years after its release. That's crazy! We wonder why they don't make movies like this one anymore, and then we remember that they've tried to, and we want to kind of forget that we just remembered that and you know, Grease 2 ever happened.
As one of the most successful broadway plays, this musical is still very much hitting it's highest notes and flocks of fans are attending premiere after premiere. Even high schools put on the show, you know, the ones that still have a theater program.
IT came out in 1978, but we very much still remember it today. When I actually got Grease on DVD I was so happy and watched it again, over and over again. My VHS had suffered enough, and honestly, hadn't aged well. We do wonder though, if people remember it well enough to be able to ace an entire quiz on the famous movie. The girl who moves to the US with her family and against all odds ends up at the same high school as her summer fling. She is the main character and we follow her and her greaser through the adjustment period of their relationship. The adjustment needs to be made because they spent the summer the way they did because they knew it would end, but suddenly, it wasn't over and they had to try to make it work. What's her name?
Where do the main characters meet?
Besides the long musical intro that still makes us sing and dance along, we open up the movie with two lovers enjoying their summer together. All we get is a sad goodbye, but it's easy enough to understand that this 'Summer Lovin' really should have lasted much longer than they thought they had. Saying their sad goodbyes we know that they end up in the same place, but they don't know that yet, what we don't know though is where they meet?

The movie was a big hit when it first came out and it was definitely, in large part, because of the soundtrack. All of the characters spend a lot of their time confessing love, secrets, feelings, and everything else in between all through song. So this may seem like a very easy answer, but maybe it was a different type of film than the very obvious genre. Going through high school jumping around and singing about your romances definitely wasn't how it was for me. What genre is the movie?

I mean we know the movie came out in 1978, but is it set in the 70s? The style, the fashion, the attitude and the lingo all marks from a specific time. Was it the roaring 20s? Or was it set in a future where romance is very much still alive, where there are flying cars, and people still very much sing about their feelings. Can you remember which era the movie is set in? This should be an easy one.
Where is Sandy originally from?
Now we know it comes to a bit of a shock when we see Sandy at the same high school as Danny, but I guess it wouldn't be much of a movie if they didn't get to meet up, at least in the end. Luckily for us, it's the whole premise of the movie and we get to see them together. Where in the world is Sandy originally from? Is she American just moving back? Is she from somewhere else in the world?

Once we get to high school with Sandy, the girls start to ask how everyone's summer went, and when Sandy starts to discuss what happened to her, the girls are very, very interested in hearing the whole story. The spectator can see that Danny is also singing to the boys just how his summer went. At the end of the song, Sandy is finally asked what the boy's name was. Danny, Danny Zuko. The girl's start laughing and someone says for them to shush and hides it until the pep rally. Who was it?

So now we know that everyone else knows that they are the two people that met over the summer break and fell in love. I always laugh at this question because it seems to have been done in the 70s, and it is still done now. Older actors play much younger characters. The actor who played Danny was 23, and Sandy was actually 28 at the time of filming. Some of the other characters, playing teenagers were actually in their 30s. Lighting does wonders! After the back and forth between the two and the, hopefully, budding romance being reignited between Danny and Sandy, they decide to see if they can make this work, despite their differences and their different groups, and they go on a date, as themselves, no trying to be someone else. Things seem to be going well until Danny does something that really annoys her. First, he tries to give her his ring, and she is very happy, and then well, you know the rest!

Sometimes it makes you want to say, well she brought it on herself, but really we should be more sympathetic. What is she afraid of, that in the end, reveals to be no worry at all?

This is one of the funniest characters, but it always seems a bit funny that she was a part of the 'cool girl' group. To be honest, looking back, I think a lot of the characters were presented as being cool in their own worlds, not so much the whole school. It was mentioned early, but Rizzo is a bit of an unsympathetic character. She is portrayed as the harsher one, tougher to get to know, and honestly, a bit mean. She is the one who 'surprises' Sandy and Danny with the revelation that they are both at the same school, not to reunited them, but because she thinks the drama would be entertaining. She's also the one that gets on Sandy's case for being a bit different than the girls. She's the leader of the group, and she has an emotional moment. Why was it?

Packing on to the reasons why Rizzo may not be our favorite character theme, Frenchy throws a sleepover and invites Sandy to tag along so she can get to know the girls. It's very clear that Sandy is a bit different than the girls based on how experienced they are with boys and how much they talk about them (remember they are in high school), but it doesn't seem like a reason to mock her.
