Only A 90's Girl Can Get 100% On This Grease Movie Quiz

It's Grease Lightening! Go Grease Lightening! Go Grease Lightening! Okay, now that we got you singing along, we are going to test how well you remember this 80s classic. This movie had a soundtrack so good that it was still on the list of best Soundtracks over 20 years after its release. That's crazy! We wonder why they don't make movies like this one anymore, and then we remember that they've tried to, and we want to kind of forget that we just remembered that and you know, Grease 2 ever happened.

As one of the most successful broadway plays, this musical is still very much hitting it's highest notes and flocks of fans are attending premiere after premiere. Even high schools put on the show, you know, the ones that still have a theater program.

IT came out in 1978, but we very much still remember it today. When I actually got Grease on DVD I was so happy and watched it again, over and over again. My VHS had suffered enough, and honestly, hadn't aged well. We do wonder though, if people remember it well enough to be able to ace an entire quiz on the famous movie. Let's put it to the test shall we? Shimmy on in and take the quiz to see if you were the biggest Grease fan! We think that only 90s girls really stand a chance.

Question 1

Who is this greaser?

In 1978 this American phenomenon bursted onto the scene and boy did people love it! It was both commercially and critically successful practically overnight. The Soundtrack alone ended 2003 as the second album of the year. The story follows this lead character and a girl he meets over the summer, who unexpectedly, end up at the same high school and try to get over their high school cliques in order to be together. What is this 1978 lead character's name?

Question 2

Who is this blonde?

The girl who moves to the US with her family and against all odds ends up at the same high school as her summer fling. She is the main character and we follow her and her greaser through the adjustment period of their relationship. The adjustment needs to be made because they spent the summer the way they did because they knew it would end, but suddenly, it wasn't over and they had to try to make it work. What's her name?

Question 3

Where do the main characters meet?

Besides the long musical intro that still makes us sing and dance along, we open up the movie with two lovers enjoying their summer together. All we get is a sad goodbye, but it's easy enough to understand that this 'Summer Lovin' really should have lasted much longer than they thought they had. Saying their sad goodbyes we know that they end up in the same place, but they don't know that yet, what we don't know though is where they meet?

Question 4

What kind of movie is Grease?

The movie was a big hit when it first came out and it was definitely, in large part, because of the soundtrack. All of the characters spend a lot of their time confessing love, secrets, feelings, and everything else in between all through song. So this may seem like a very easy answer, but maybe it was a different type of film than the very obvious genre. Going through high school jumping around and singing about your romances definitely wasn't how it was for me. What genre is the movie?

Question 5

What era is the movie set in?

I mean we know the movie came out in 1978, but is it set in the 70s? The style, the fashion, the attitude and the lingo all marks from a specific time. Was it the roaring 20s? Or was it set in a future where romance is very much still alive, where there are flying cars, and people still very much sing about their feelings. Can you remember which era the movie is set in? This should be an easy one.

Question 6

Where is Sandy originally from?

Now we know it comes to a bit of a shock when we see Sandy at the same high school as Danny, but I guess it wouldn't be much of a movie if they didn't get to meet up, at least in the end. Luckily for us, it's the whole premise of the movie and we get to see them together. Where in the world is Sandy originally from? Is she American just moving back? Is she from somewhere else in the world?

Question 7

Who, after hearing that Danny is the guy Sandy met over the summer, pushes them together as a 'surprise'?

Once we get to high school with Sandy, the girls start to ask how everyone's summer went, and when Sandy starts to discuss what happened to her, the girls are very, very interested in hearing the whole story. The spectator can see that Danny is also singing to the boys just how his summer went. At the end of the song, Sandy is finally asked what the boy's name was. Danny, Danny Zuko. The girl's start laughing and someone says for them to shush and hides it until the pep rally. Who was it?

Question 8

What's his name?

Okay, if you didn't have a total 'badboy' crush on this guy, then well, you didn't live and breathe Grease the way I did. Which is fine, but you're truly missing out. This character may have been the catalyst to the whole 'hot-bad-boy' phase of my life, but also if you ask around, probably to a lot of other women. I mean, look at him! I wasn't too into the smoking thing, but he made up for it by being smoking! ha! Puns! What was his name?

Question 9

What do they keep repeating when Danny and Sandy are telling their friends how they met?

One of the first of many iconic songs in Grease is when Sandy is singing along telling the girls how her summer went and how she met a boy 'cute as can be'. On the other side of the school Danny was singing to the boys about the girl who was 'crazy for me', singing about 'Summer Sun, where something begun', they had their crowd eating out of their hands. They kept asking for me and more. What was it exactly they kept saying?

Question 10

What happens when Sandy first sees Danny at the pep rally?

So now we know that everyone else knows that they are the two people that met over the summer break and fell in love. Now the problem is that sometime's people aren't the same as they were when they were on holidays. The sun was shining, the sand was all warm under their feet, and romance was certainly in the air. And against all odds, they ended up in the same place. They just noticed it themselves. How does Danny react to seeing Sandy?

Question 11

Whats the boy's group name?

The movie may have come out in the late 70s but Grease was to be set in the late 50s, which means a whole different, swinging, musical era. What it also means is tights pants, leather jackets, and a whole lot of grease. All the boys were mechanics and they enjoyed shop class and fixing up old cars (or were they considered new cars then?). It was also quite popular to be part of a clique and to name that group as well. What were the boys named?

Question 12

What's the name of the highschool they both attend?

We've discussed where they first met, we talked about the era, the groups that were formed and how a Summer fling was given a chance to become so much more. And thank goodness too, or it wouldn't have been the greatest love story ever, or at least one of. Now, we know they are back in high school, but we haven't yet discussed what the name of this lover-reuniting high school is. Can you remember the name? We bet it's on the tip of your tongue.

Question 13

Who is this character?

Grease gave us so much, from a killer soundtrack, to some pretty cool dance moves. And did we mention the style? Because honestly, if we don't bring hoop skirts back then there's definitely something wrong with the world. We clearly aren't doing it right in this century so we should reach back in time for some inspiration and hello, pink hair! We need that back. So tell us, who is this pink haired lady?

Question 14

What do they call the girl group?

the first thing Sandy does to make friends is join the cheerleading squad thanks to a very peppy and convincing spirit-filled, straight A student. Besides the spirit squad, she ended up in a really colorful group of girls. Just like the T-birds the girls have come up with their very own gang. The girls ditched the black and went for a much more feminine color to suit their own group. What pink-themed name did they choose to name their group?

Question 15

Where do they go on their first date?

So after the pep rally meet up, Sandy gets pretty upset, and rightfully so, and she pretty much tries to drop Danny like a sack of potatoes. "You're a fake and a phoney, and I wish I never laid eyes on you". Till this day, I still use this line on simple things like watered down drinks, and tofu, because of the lies. Anyway, Danny spends the next bit of the movie trying to get back into Sandy's good graces. Finally, she agrees to go on a date with him. Where do they go?

Question 16

Who was Danny's ex that was at the Dance?

Sandy had just arrived so she was kinda the new girl, and suddenly she was already hanging out with the cool guy in town had a great group of friends who are also quite popular. Lucky girl. Prom comes around and the committee put in a lot of hard work to make sure it went down without a hitch. A dance off started and everyone jumps on the dance floor. It's a great scene, but someone tries to get in between Danny and Sandy, an ex from his past. What was her name?

Question 17

What is the name of the diner that they frequent?

Some of the funnest scenes, and greatest opportunities to see some of those marvellous hooped skirts. We also get a better glimpse into the 50s with Diners, cool cars, and delicious looking milkshakes. The gang all gets together at a certain diner. Sandy and Danny are trying to have their own personal time, and Danny is still a bit weird about being with a girl around his friends. Of course, their failed attempt to hide didn't go unnoticed and their date was crashed. Where was it?

Question 18

What sport did Danny take up to impress Sandy?

We mentioned it before, but after the pep rally debacle, Danny was really in some hot water with Sandy. I guess he wasn't really the type to settled down, and being the cool guy that he is, maybe Sandy was a bit preppy for him, who knows why? Boys right? Danny of course, finally came to his senses and realized he needed to really try hard to get Sandy back. Based on her one interaction with a cute jock, Danny assumed she was into more sporty guys. He went through a few sports before he found this one. What was it?

Question 19

How old are they supposed to be?

I always laugh at this question because it seems to have been done in the 70s, and it is still done now. Older actors play much younger characters. The actor who played Danny was 23, and Sandy was actually 28 at the time of filming. Some of the other characters, playing teenagers were actually in their 30s. Lighting does wonders! We know they are in high school, but do you remember exactly how long they've been in high school and what year they are supposed to be in?

Question 20

What happens at the drive-in that makes Sandy mad?

After the back and forth between the two and the, hopefully, budding romance being reignited between Danny and Sandy, they decide to see if they can make this work, despite their differences and their different groups, and they go on a date, as themselves, no trying to be someone else. Things seem to be going well until Danny does something that really annoys her. First, he tries to give her his ring, and she is very happy, and then well, you know the rest!

Question 21

Who is the first of the girls to become friends with Sandy?

Sandy is, by all means, a bit of an outcast. She is new to the school and it appears that a lot of groups and cliques are pretty much cemented by the time she gets there. I mean they even have matching jackets! Being the new girl is super tough, especially, when it comes with a different accent, and a different background and cultural experience. Luckily for Sandy, when she first arrives, one of the Pink ladies helps her from committing the social disaster of befriending the preppiest, most uncool person, and befriends her instead. Who was it?

Question 22

What good news does Rizzo get at the end of the movie?

Rizzo is quite an interesting character. She's a bit of a mean girl with a past, and she's hard to get to know and sometimes even hard to feel sorry for. The movie addresses quite a few teen issues and it does it relatively well. One of the issues is how Rizzo is perceived by other people. Sometimes it makes you want to say, well she brought it on herself, but really we should be more sympathetic. What is she afraid of, that in the end, reveals to be no worry at all?

Question 23

Who is this character?

This is one of the funniest characters, but it always seems a bit funny that she was a part of the 'cool girl' group. To be honest, looking back, I think a lot of the characters were presented as being cool in their own worlds, not so much the whole school. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people around thought they were just a band of misfits, but hey, that's cool too! This character was the jokester of the group. What was her name?

Question 24

What kind of school did Frenchy drop out of?

One of the catchiest songs in Grease, and by catchy, I don't necessarily mean one of the best, just one that sticks in your mind and seems to never truly leave, is about Frenchy, at the diner, upset because she dropped out of high school to go to a different type of school, and after a few disasters, she dropped out again. She doesn't know how to tell her friends that she failed at what she thought was her dream. What was it?

Question 25

What do they race for off the track?

Boys will be boys, is an expression used for moments such as this one. Who else would think of a dangerous drive (luckily in an abandoned area), against the rival school and gang? Boys, that's who. The cool ones, who can build their own car, and then subsequently, destroy it just to prove a point. Kenickie had them do the race, and he asks that Danny be his wingman, cockpit partner, guy, and never leave his side. What do they race for?

Question 26

What is the name of the peppy girl who gets Sandy into cheerleading?

We pretty much remember Sandy arriving and instantly being a part of the Pink Ladies crowd and that was that, what you may have forgotten though is that when she first arrived she made a different friend. An extremely peppy, happy, vibrant, and sometimes annoyingly positive over achiever. All things aside, she was super nice to the new girl, and if anyone knows what it's like to be the new girl, you always benefit from meeting someone just like her! What was her name?

Question 27

Who is this character?

Admittedly, she is maybe the least memorable of the ladies in the group, but this character has a few key moments. Most of the ones I remember involve her and gum. She also is the most boy crazy of the bunch, and she keeps photos of all of her lovers in her wallet. She is a serial pen pal lover and she is proud of it! As a defining trait, I suppose it's not much to go one, but what was her name?

Question 28

What do the guys all do with their hair?

This is probably the small detail that anyone who ever wanted to pretend they were a T-bird HAS to do as a gesture. Fix their hair. It is such a signature part of their look, the grease ball, stiff hair, always coiffed kind of look. These guys probably had more product in their hair than all the girls combined. We know hairspray or grease (that's an easy guess) was certainly a big part of it, but what other things was a must when it came to their hair?

Question 29

Why was Rizzo upset?

It was mentioned early, but Rizzo is a bit of an unsympathetic character. She is portrayed as the harsher one, tougher to get to know, and honestly, a bit mean. She is the one who 'surprises' Sandy and Danny with the revelation that they are both at the same school, not to reunited them, but because she thinks the drama would be entertaining. She's also the one that gets on Sandy's case for being a bit different than the girls. She's the leader of the group, and she has an emotional moment. Why was it?

Question 30

Why do the girls sing a song about Sandy?

Packing on to the reasons why Rizzo may not be our favorite character theme, Frenchy throws a sleepover and invites Sandy to tag along so she can get to know the girls. It's very clear that Sandy is a bit different than the girls based on how experienced they are with boys and how much they talk about them (remember they are in high school), but it doesn't seem like a reason to mock her. Yet they do. What issue do they focus on in the song about her?

Question 31

What do the girls call Sandy behind her back?

In the song mentioned above they make a very specific reference to what they think of her and just how different she is from them. And Rizzo, the instigator, comes up with a catchy nickname for Sandy to add to the song. I mean, we all have probably had nicknames before, and when it comes to mean high school girls and calling names behind your back, this one is, admittedly, pretty tame. They just make fun of her name. What do they call her in the song?

Question 32

Who does Sandy go to the dance with?

This one may seem a bit like a trick of a question, but if you watched the movie over and over again, you know exactly who Sandy went to the dance with and why it was such a big deal. Making the appearance together really made some heads turn, and not all for the right reasons. It definitely attracted some jealousy, and not just because of the sick moves they pulled on the dancefloor, or for her gorgeous white dress. Who did she go with?

Question 33

Why is Sandy not in the room when the girls sing about her?

We've mentioned the song quite a few times now during this quiz, because let's admit, it was a pretty funny glimpse into girls and their sleepovers. It's not all about pillow fights and makeup sessions, but sometimes, unfortunately, it is about making fun of the odd one out. She was Frenchy's friend, and as much as she tried to get the girls onto Sandy's side, Rizzo was the leader, and she started a song, using Frenchy's blonde wigs. Luckily, Sandy didn't hear the whole song. Where was she when they started singing?

Question 34

Who plays Danny in the original movie?

This was definitely one of the most iconic movies for this movie, and at the height of his heartthrob-ness (is that a word?). This actor went on to become kind of a big deal, but it's no surprise that he has a few other musicals under his talented belt, with Saturday Night Fever, and even Hairspray, where he plays a woman. He was certainly eye catching, but can you remember the real actor's name? We will make it easier by only giving you 4 options.

Question 35

Which actress plays Sandy in the original movie?

The actress who plays Sandy, as mentioned before, is quite a bit older than her character, a whopping 11 years older. Especially back in the day, teenagers were not playing teenagers, and funny enough, older actors were playing teens while their parents were being played by fellow actors only a few years older than them. Younger parents, older kids, all to stay within the realm of legal and still stay attractive and not too old. This actress became known for her song 'Let's Get Physical', do you remember her real name?

Question 36

What does Kenickie say a hickey from him is like?

One of my favorite lines from the movie is said by Kenickie when he has started hooking up with Rizzo and she makes a statement about how many hickeys she has and attempts to keep covering them up. Oh the high school days when that would even be remotely acceptable. As a couple, they already have enough issues, but when she's very upset about this and it clearly doesn't phase Kenickie at all, she is even more angry. What line does he deliver to reassure her that it's all okay?

Question 37

Why does Danny have to race instead of Kenickie?

We mentioned the race before as the moment that we see Danny and Kenickie truly rekindle their friendship and have a 'bro moment' to make sure each of them know that their relationship isn't going to change just because Danny is now in a relationship with Sandy. Kenickie basically apologizes for being a bit of a bad friend, and says he needs him by his side, especially for moments like these when he makes a stupid bet, and has to honor it. Well luck have it, Kenickie is unable to race and Danny has to step in. Why is that?

Question 38

What did Sandy do for Danny at the end?

In one of the best character twists, in the end of Grease, Sandy demonstrates that they can be quite similar as well. Throughout the movie we watch Danny trying to change into something he is not for Sandy, but we never really see Sandy putting in the most effort to adapt to him. In her defense, Sandy didn't have to work as hard to make up for being mean to him either. What did she do in the end to win him over?

Question 39

What is so special about the car that Danny and Sandy drive away in at the end?

Boys, grease, girls, leather, hoop skirts, transformations, love stories, and of course, cars. They boys have several moments that are revolved around cars. Whether its the Grease Lightening moments, with the boys in their shop class, putting an engine in the car, or the race for pink slips that Danny has to do to prove they are the better school, you name it, cars are around. And in the 50s, cars were a bit different. The car in particular, at the end, has a defining trait. What is it?

Question 40

What song do they sing to each other at the fair in the end?

To end up the movie and tie it off nicely with a bow, the gang gets together and sings a somewhat of a goodbye song. Goodbye to the movie, goodbye to school, and goodbye to all the drama holding them down. But right before that, the main couple gets together and sing a choreographed song that gives us chills, electrifying... makes us even lose control. For the power... okay I don't need to carry on, you get it. What was the song that Sandy and Danny sing together around the fair?
