The story takes place in a kingdom of lions in Africa and was influenced by William Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Question 2

In Swahili, what does Rafiki mean?

Years before Simba and Mufasa's reign, Rafiki was a traveler studying the African lands who eventually stumbled upon the Pride Lands, where he was attacked by a young Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed. The mandrill was saved by Ahadi, the former ruler of the Pride Lands and father of Mufasa and Scar. Eventually taking residence in the vast lands, Rafiki would soon become close companions with Mufasa and one day overheard Taka's plot to sabotage his brother's reputation, only to be foiled by the mandrill.

Question 3

What color are Nala's eyes?

As a child, Nala is known to be sassy, being defensive of her own accomplishments and giving her best friend cheek when prompted. Though Simba sometimes tries to claim her ideas as his own, Nala will not stand for being overlooked and is clever and strong enough to do something about it. Despite this, Nala is an encouraging friend, kind to Simba even when he makes an error, no matter what he says or does, she maintains the friendship, grieving heavily when he supposedly dies. But what color are her eyes?

Question 4

What's Zazu's official title?

Zazu is knowledgable, diplomatic, and stern. He takes his position as a royal advisor very seriously, and carries himself in a no-nonsense—and often times, pompous—manner. Unfortunately, the demanding, and sometimes dangerous nature of his job has left Zazu with a considerable amount of anxiety and emotional instability; he is prone to falling into panic when things go wrong, and he can be rather irritable and snappish. Because of his fragile temper and high opinion of himself, Zazu is not taken very seriously by the other characters, specifically Simba and Nala, who would often tease him.

Question 5

What kind of bird is Zazu?

Zazu is undoubtably loyal to the king, and has proven his usefulness on numerous occasions. As the king's "eyes and ears", Zazu knows all and tells all, especially when trouble arises. If not for Zazu, Simba and Nala would have very well met their demise at the jaws of the hyenas, as it was he who had informed Mufasa of the danger before things could take a turn for the worse. He always is the one that puts the kingdom first.

Question 6

Which actor provided Simba's speaking voice?

As a cub, Simba was rather adventurous and impressionable. He highly admired his father, Mufasa, and wished to some day become a ruler as mighty as he, spending much of his time either learning the ways of a king or simply envisioning what life would be like with such power and self-esteem. This inflated his ego, making him arrogant and boastful towards characters such as Zazu and Scar, and additionally led to troublesome situations, as his viewpoint on Mufasa led him to believe being a king meant being fearless and looking for unnecessary danger, just to prove how mighty one could be. But who voiced him?

Question 7

What is the film's final speaking line?

After all the battles are done and won, the animals gather together to bask in the sunlight and bow to the future king—Simba's son. It seems weird because these lions are the ones to eat all of the animals bowing down to the lions, but I guess that is the circle of life as the movie is always preaching. It is just too bad that scar didn't see that everything has a balance to live by. He was too consumed by power.

Question 8

Which of hyena's Ed's ears is nicked?

Ed is first seen in The Lion King as one of Scar's henchmen. When Simba and Nala are exploring the Elephant Graveyard, Simba laughs in a mocking way, and Ed and the other hyenas who are hiding in an elephant skull, echo his laughter, and make the young cub back away in fear and hide behind Nala and Zazu, who had come to retrieve the cubs from the graveyard. Ed is a little slower than the other hyenas, but still just as vicious.

In her first appearance, Shenzi, along with Banzai and Ed, tries to coax Zazu and young Simba and Nala to stay in the Elephant Graveyard for dinner. As the hyenas chase after the trio, they capture Zazu and place him in "the birdy boiler", sending him flying out of the Elephant Graveyard. Simba tells the hyenas to pick on someone their own size, which Shenzi declares him and Nala to be, resulting in the cubs being pursued once more. Not good.

Question 13

When the actor that played Scar lost his voice, some of the lines in "Be Prepared" were recorded by Jim Cummings who voiced which other character?

It happens. Sometimes when you are voicing a character, your voice gives out. This is exactly what happened to Jeremy Irons when voicing Scar during production. Unfortunately, this was exactly when he had to sing his one and only song "Be Prepared." He couldn't very well sing without a voice, so this put production in a real dilemma. Good thing one of the other actors was able to step up and match his voice stylings to perform the song that was being recorded.

Question 24

How many black stripes does Timon have on his back?

In the The Lion King films, Timon can be self-centered and thoughtless at times. One example is proven when they decided to take Simba in, where he robs Pumbaa of the credit Pumbaa rightfully deserves. But in the end, he has a good heart and is loyal to his friends and family. Unlike most meerkats, who work constantly, Timon is a daydreamer which results in him being an outcast of his colony. His status at the bottom of the food chain means he relies on stronger animals to protect him once he's on his own, and as such, he usually looks out for himself.

Question 25
