Grey's Anatomy has been around for a pretty long time - over fourteen seasons to be exact. So over the course of so many seasons, there have been a ton of characters who have come and gone. Some of them stay around for a while whereas others leave just as fast as they come. Nonetheless, they all have a big impact on the hospital, the staff and of course, the patients. The characters are what made this show so successful over the years because they are very relatable, compassionate and even funny. They make us feel like we are right there with them experiencing the things and emotions that they are. Even though there have been a lot of characters who have come and gone, a true fan of Grey's Anatomy will be able to name them all by heart.
Some of the characters will be easy to name because they have been on the show basically since the beginning but others have not been around for quite some time, so it may be a bit trickier to remember their names and backstories. This quiz is only for those who have watched Grey's Anatomy from the beginning and know all of the characters.

This little girl came to the hospital as part of Karev’s social outreach program to help those in need. Once Derek saw her, he immediately fell in love with her and so did Meredith. They had a bit of a rough time when they were trying to adopt her because they had some personal stuff going on but eventually they made it through!

This character was the lucky resident who was put in charge of the very first group of interns, this included Meredith and Alex. She had a bit of a hard time corralling them but eventually they fell into line. She was tough on them but only because she wanted them to be great. This character was very determined, as she wanted to prove anyone who ever doubted her wrong. She eventually became the Chief of Surgery at Grey Sloan.

Now this character was the very first Chief of Surgery on the show. He had a ton of experience and knowledge so it is no surprise that he is the one the other doctors turn to for advice. Even when he steps down as Chief, he remains as someone that the doctors can go to for advice. He loves teaching the new doctors and takes over being head of the interns so that he can stay busy but still continue performing surgery.

Of course the doctors from the two hospitals were a bit standoffish when it came to one another but eventually they all became close friends. This character is a very likable guy because he is always trying his best to make everyone happy. She became the head of cardiology, however, and it took a little while for the others to take her seriously since she was so much younger then everyone else. Eventually, he was able to open up to some of the interns and once he did, everything changed. He became a bit happier and was able to be better at his job since he was working with everyone. When she is first introduced into the series, she is a pediatric surgeon who makes it her mission to put a smile on every one of her patients. Over time, she realizes that there is another speciality she feels passionate about. She works hard to learn everything she can from her mentor in a short amount of time. She becomes a fetal surgeon, meaning she operates on unborn babies while they are still in the womb.

She ended up defying all odds and became a doctor. She came to Seattle in order to escape her husband who was using her as his own personal punching bag. She hid her identity for a pretty long time until her co-workers figured it out.

This character was a bit rough around the edges when he first got to Grey Sloan and he had a tendency to ruffle the feathers of none other than Meredith Grey. Maggie Pierce was in love with him for a little bit but eventually she decided to step aside so that her sister could possibly get a second chance at love. Meredith and this characters chance at a relationship was ruined when his fiancé was found after being missing her years.

Although there was no romantic connection at first they developed a very close friendship. Eventually, however, they developed romantic feelings for each other and right when they started getting close he got sick again. Sadly he did not make it very long before he passed away on the operating table with Yang as his surgeon.

She tried to hide it for as long as she could but eventually everyone found out.

She had some sort of relationship with Alex, but they were never able to explore it further because she took a job overseas. This was the same job that Alex was trying to get but she stole it right out from under him before he even got the chance to apply. They never spoke again although she did try to apologize for going behind his back.
