Grey’s Anatomy is currently in its 15th season on television, which is incredible. It is one of the longest running shows on television ever and it continues to entertain us each and every week. The show originally started focusing on five new doctors in Seattle — Alex Karev, Meredith Grey, George O’Malley, Cristina Yang, and Izzie Stevens. The show was initially about their first years as doctors at a brand new hospital and how they were able to balance their professional lives with their personal lives. Of course all these doctors began dating other doctors on the show, including Derek Shepherd and Preston Burke.
As the show progressed, new doctors were introduced to stir up trouble and cause drama, like Mark Sloan, Lexie Grey, and Callie Torres. Since the show has been on television so long so many characters have come and gone. In fact, the other original cast members who are still on the show include Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, Miranda Bailey, and Richard Webber. However, through all the ups and the downs over the years, the show continues to introduce new and exciting characters into our lives and it makes us emotional each and every week.

Who is this character?
This character was introduced earlier in the show’s history, but she didn’t become a major character until much later. In fact, she is related to one of the main characters who is no longer on the show anymore. This character joined the cast full time back during Season 11. She has gotten married to one of the other characters on the show, but they have since gotten divorced. She also had a brain tumor at one point that had to be removed.

This character was not on Grey’s Anatomy for very long, but he was definitely a fan favorite. He was introduced on the show back during Season 2 as a patient. He desperately needed a heart transplant and was going to pass without one. While in the hospital he fell in love with one of the doctors and also got a heart transplant, but he ended up passing due to complications anyway. This character also came back during Season 5, but as a ghost.

This character has recently left the show for good, but she started her time on the show back during Season 6. She became a doctor at Grey Sloan Memorial due to a merger and she came over with a bunch of other doctors. Though she was not initially well liked, fans grew to love her. She also got married to one of the other doctors, but they got divorced. However, while they were divorced they ended up having a child together.

This character joined the show back in Season 4 after she premiered as a guest star back in season 3. She is related to one of the main characters on the show, but it came as a surprise. She ended up having a relationship with a few different doctors. She dated Mark Sloan for a long time, but she also had relationships with Jackson Avery and with Alex Karev. She unfortunately passed back in Season 8 after she was in a plane crash.

This character became a series regular back in season 12 but he decided to leave the show in the middle of season 14. He is a cardiothoracic surgeon who started working at Grey Sloan Memorial after bringing a patient there from overseas. We then find out he used to be very close with Owen Hunt, but they had a falling out after Owen found out Nathan had been unfaithful on his sister, who he was dating. Nathan also began to have a relationship with Meredith, but that ended.

This character began her time on Grey’s Anatomy back during season 9 as an intern. She was actually fired during her second year as an intern because she wasn’t good enough, but she ended up coming back a few seasons later — during season 13 — because she proved that she had improved. She also had a brief relationship with Arizona Robbins, who was in the midst of her separation from Callie Torres. This character left the show after season 13.

This character came onto the show back in season 7. He came to Grey Sloan Memorial as a patient and he was in desperate need of surgery, but he didn’t have insurance. If he didn’t have surgery he was going to pass away, so Dr. Teddy Altman decided to marry this character so he could have insurance and survive. He was able to get the surgery and they fell in love, but this character ultimately passed because he had a tumour near his heart.

This character is definitely a fan favorite and was on the show from the very beginning. He was best friends with Izzie Stevens and he found himself in a number of relationships while on the show, despite not necessarily being a ladies man. In fact, he even had a short-lived marriage to Dr. Callie Torres, but that ended fairly quickly because he was unfaithful. However, he sadly left the show after Season 5 because he passed after getting hit by a bus.

He ended up starting a new family and had two other kids, one of them being Lexie Grey. This character is also into drinking and being to develop serious problems due to his drinking habits.

This character is introduced back in season 2. In fact, she is the wife of Chief Richard Webber. Though she is not a main character, she makes appearances throughout a number of seasons. Unfortunately, however, this character was diagnosed with a brain tumour and revealed she only had six months left to live. She decided to use this time to teach Arizona everything there is to know about fetal surgery. However, she had surgery and the tumour was removed, but she was left blind.

This character came onto Grey’s Anatomy in season 2. She is a surgical resident who has a lot of energy and is very optimistic, which the other doctors don’t necessarily love. In the early seasons, she took over for Miranda Bailey while she was on maternity leave as the head surgical resident. Needless to say, the other doctors were not very thrilled, especially Cristina Yang. Though she was slightly annoying, she was a good doctor. She ended up leaving Grey Sloan Memorial following season 4.

This doctor joined Grey’s Anatomy during season 9. In fact, she was one of five new interns that were introduced that season. This character worked with a number of different doctors as an intern, including Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd. She had a brief fling with Alex Karev, but it didn’t go anywhere. However, she sadly passed away during Season 10 after she was electrocuted. Derek tried to save her life, but there wasn't anything he could do.

They dated for awhile, but the ultimately decided to call it quits. This character is now a surgical resident and his sister ended up coming to Grey Sloan Memorial, since she’s also a doctor. This character hasn’t had a serious relationship since Maggie, but he currently has his eyes on Meredith Grey.

This character was on the show during season 7. She came on as an OB/GYN attending. In fact, she took care of Callie Torres while she was pregnant with her daughter Sophia. Callie had a bit of a complicated pregnancy, but this character took good care of her. This character also had a brief romance with Alex Karev, but they were not always close. In fact, Alex and this character really butted heads initially. She ended up leaving Grey Sloan Memorial at the end of season 7 to go work in Africa.

This character was introduced to us back in season 8. She is a very successful doctor in her own right, but she is also the mother of a doctor at Grey Sloan Memorial. We find out that she comes from a family of very successful doctors. Though she is a bit controlling and liked to be in charge, all the doctors respect her and her work. Also, following the passing of Richard’s wife Adele, this character and Richard ended up falling in love and getting married.

This character ends up dating Andrew DeLuca for awhile, but they broke up. She is now dating Jackson Avery.

This character was one of the nurses who worked very closely with the doctors. She started dating George O’Malley at one point, but she ended up passing a disease along to him, which she had accidentally received from being intimate with Alex Karev. Unfortunately, she was fired during the merger.

This character was introduced on the show back in season 9 as one of the new interns with some other doctors. We ended up finding out that this character had actually been forced to change her name because she was in an abusive marriage and was forced to run away from him. She begins dating Alex Karev and when they decide to get married, this character ends up telling Alex about her abusive husband. Thankfully, this character and Alex still got married.
