Pop music is ever changing. The style is continually evolving, and audiences’ thirst for it is continually evolving, too. It grew from the more poppy rock sounds that were becoming prevalent during the rock ‘n’ roll movement of the 1960s, like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. After that, as pop music continued to grow and grow throughout the 1970s as more glam rock sounds were expanding the stylistic spectrum of music, more and more pop artists began to make their name in the newly formed genre with the likes of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston and Prince all rising to prominence to make pop genre the most beloved and best selling musical style of the 1980s. In the 1990s, artists like Christina Aguilera and NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys and Vanilla Ice blended pop music with the more popular hip hop genre of the time, and pop music moved in yet another different creative direction. Since then, we’ve been treated to the heavily auto-tuned pop artists of the 2000s, and the pop music of today comes from pretty much anywhere. Katy Perry has a background in Christian music, Taylor Swift has a background in country music, Ed Sheeran has a background in busking – now, pop music is being drawn from pretty much every corner of the artistic musical spectrum. Point is, pop music has adopted very different ranges of styles over the years. Let us guess when you were born based on how well you know these pop stars!
