One doesn't have to be into fantasy movies to have heard of the popular Twilight film series, which was based on the well received adult fiction novel series written by the talented writer Stephenie Meyer. Interestingly enough, according to CNN, the idea for the series came to Meyer in a dream!
The five movies - Twilight (released in 2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (released in 2009), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (released in 2010), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1 (released in 2011) and last but not least, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2 (released in 2012) (IMDb) - were incredibly successful and drew countless of people to the cinema.
As most are without doubt aware, the films focus on vampires and shape-shifters, also known as werewolves. The first movie, Twilight, starts off with a human girl moving from Phoenix in Arizona to Forks in Washington, so as to live with her dad. It is there that she meets a handsome and mysterious young man who turns out to be a vampire. This vampire has the ability to read people's mind but for some reason, can't penetrate the minds of the female protagonist. His curiosity is piqued and before he knows it, he is in love with the fragile and clumsy girl. As is to be expected, the girl too falls in love with the young man. Of course, a relationship between a vampire and a human is anything but easy, and there are plenty of other characters that are more than happy to complicate matters even further.

Let’s start off easy – this character is the female protagonist of the series. When we first meet her she is a human girl who has just transferred from Phoenix to Forks so as to live with her father. It is in Forks that she falls in love with a vampire (and is eventually turned into one).

This character is the son of a woman who is from the Makah tribe. Initially everyone believes that his father is a man from the same tribe but the truth comes out when it becomes apparent that he is a shape-shifter. He is easily distinguishable from other wolves due to his dark grey nose.

A member of the Cullen family, this vampire is incredibly strong even though he is a vegetarian like the rest of his family. Indeed, he is the strongest one in the family. He loves to arm wrestle newborn vampires so as to test his strength. He is fun and very protective.

This character is a shape-shifter. He belongs to the Quileute tribe. He is in love with the female protagonist of the series but eventually has to accept that she prefers her vampire boyfriend over him. He is very responsible and takes good care of his ailing father.

This character is a member of the Volturi clan. She is incredibly powerful and is seen, along with her twin brother, as powerful offensive instruments against the Cullen family. She has the power to cause serious pain in other people’s minds.

One of the three leaders of the Volturi clan, this character might not be the most powerful but there is no denying that he is the most observant. He is the youngest leader of the clan and is known as an ambitious and mean man.

This elegant and charming redhead vampire is initially a member of her partner’s coven. After her partner passes away she dedicates the rest of her life to ending the life of the female protagonist of the series (whom she blames for her misfortune).

This character is an Egyptian vampire as well as the leader of an Egyptian coven. He is said to be one of the oldest vampires to exist. Because members of his coven have previously been stolen by the Volturi, he is incredibly protective of them.

A high-ranking member of the Volturi clan, this vampire is known for his impressive size and his magnificent strength. Indeed, because of these features he is the guard of the clan. Unlike most vampires, this character relies not on supernatural abilities but on his combat techniques.

A founding member of the Romanian coven, this vampire is ambitious and sly. Before his coven was defeated by the Volturi, it was the most powerful coven in the world. It was not only this character’s coven that was destroyed. His true love was also taken away from him, and for that he can never forgive the Volturi.

We saved the hardest question for the very end. Only real fans of the Twilight series will know who this character is! She made only a brief appearance and does not even have a name, only an alias. She features in a story told by a Quileute council member.
