Only A True Music Genius Can Name At Least 50% Of These Country Stars

Country music might not be for everyone (the same can be said about all other genres), but it's one of the most easy-listening, relaxing genres with deep and diverse roots dating back to the 1920s in the Southern United States. While a lot of people might associate it now with the more popular acts like Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift, it is actually a derivative of folk and blues music that's often accompanied by popular string instruments such as banjos and acoustic guitars as well as harmonicas and fiddles. The genre can be painted with a broad brush but, when going through its history, it's much more diverse than what one might think. For starters, one of the most accomplished and revered musicians of all-time, Johnny Cash, is considered a country artist. His tunes shared the same sentiment as some of the more popular artists of today, but had his signature feel and authenticity to them.

Although country music today might not be a fixture on the top 40 charts, it's still one of the most popular genres; in 2009, it was the most listened to genre during rush hour in the United States, which speaks to its easy-listening quality that makes it a perfect de-stressing genre. And, despite the popular criticism that all country music is the same, there has been a variety of sub-genres over the years that have included country rock, country pop, neocountry, truck-driving country, and even country rap. A real country fan, however, could identify at least half of these 40 star musicians and groups.
