Today, it seems like everyone we meet has aspirations of becoming famous. And what does every second person seem to want to be? An actor! And why not? They really do seem to have it all right? Sure they might be tired and bored during their workday (same as the rest of us) but they all well (and we do mean well) paid for their time. Plus there are all the perks that go along with the job, the mansions, the holidays, the glitzy events, rubbing shoulders with the elite, the clothes... no wonder we all want to be like them!
But actors have not always had such a high social standing. Before the 19th century, those who performed on stage were seen as lower class individuals, not the type of folks you would want to associate with. Attitudes towards actors only started to change in the last 100 years or so, but today acting is one of the most desirable jobs around.
