We know we're supposed to root for the heroes in superhero films and television shows, but sometimes, we just can't stop ourselves from cheering on—and crushing on—some of the female villains! Don't get us wrong, we totally admire Captain America and Superman for their unwavering moral codes and love Peter Parker's and Barry Allen's boyish charm, but there's just something even more appealing about powerful and beautiful women who know exactly what they want and will stop at nothing to get it!
So many of Marvel and DC's current live-action villainesses look like they belong in a fashion show or on the cover of a fitness magazine, so it's really no wonder why we spend a ridiculous amount of time embracing our inner dark sides whenever we see them on screen and fantasizing about ruling the world by their sides! While the rest of the world drools over the gorgeous guys in the Avengers, Defenders, X-Men and Justice League, we'll be planning out our weddings to some of their most dangerous female foes—say "I Do" or "I Don't" to these iconic antagonists and we'll reveal the favorite food to eat with them at the wedding reception!
Nebula
Nebula may have joined up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and tried to help the Avengers take down her adopted father Thanos, but for a while, she was one of the Mad Titan's most loyal followers. Nebula did everything she could to prove her worth over her sister (and rival) Gamora, and her jealousy and loneliness took her down a dark path in life.
Reign
Reign is a powerful, genetically-altered Kryptonian with a split personality disorder. Her civilian persona is a sweet, loving single mother... but her villainous other half is a ruthless vigilante and one of Supergirl's greatest enemies. It took the combined efforts of all of Kara's friends and allies to take her down!
Ruby Hale
Ruby Hale was genetically engineered by HYDRA's leader Daniel Whitehall in the hopes of creating the perfect leader for the organization. Ruby did everything she could to make her mother happy and try to achieve physical perfection—including infusing herself with Gravitonium to become the "Destroyer of Worlds."
Fish Mooney
Fish was a former member of the Falcone crime family and the owner of Mooney's Nightclub.... until she plotted against Don Falcone and was double-crossed by her former umbrella man Oswald Cobblepot, the villain who went on to become the Penguin. When she was brought back to life by Hugo Strange, she developed the ability to control the minds of anyone she touches!
Hela
Within mere hours of escaping the prison Odin once kept her in, Hela destroyed Thor's hammer, defeated her two siblings in combat and took over Asgard—taking the lives of the legendary Warriors Three in the process. We weren't sure whether to fear her or cheer her on for finally proving that female villains should be taken seriously!
Killer Frost
Caitlin Snow's icy alter-ego may have recently joined Team Flash, but for a while, she was one of Barry Allen's most formidable enemies. Frost can freeze targets to an incredibly frigid negative 370 degrees, giving her the ability to shatter beings as powerful as the Black Flash! She also has an accelerated healing factor, so taking her out is a huge challenge.
Joy Meachum
Joy Meachum was once an upstanding businesswoman, but when Danny Rand took over the company she dedicated so much of her life into running and she found out her brother had lied to her for years about their father, she pretty much lost it. She became obsessed with getting revenge on the two men she used to love, and teamed up with some clearly twisted people in the process.
Elektra
Both Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios were trained by Stick, but while Matt used his lessons to become a masked superhero, Elektra took her fighting skills and became an assassin. When the Hand decided she may be the Black Sky, the prophesied individual who was supposed to lead their organization, she was put in conflict with Daredevil, her former lover.
Enchantress
Enchantress was such a huge threat to mankind, Amanda Waller actually had to recruit a team of supervillains to take her out! This inter-dimensional mystical being possessed the body of June Moone and used it to try to take over the world. She is a being of pure malevolence, so don't even bother trying to reason with her!
Ghost
After an accident left Ava Starr with the ability to render herself intangible and generate extreme amounts of power, she found herself wanting nothing more than to live a normal life again. Ghost didn't set out to be a villain—all of her criminal activities were just so she could harness the quantum energy needed to stabilize her abilities from Hank Pym's Quantum Tunnel.
Poison Ivy
In recasting Poison Ivy twice over the course of the series, Gotham has allowed the villain to grow just like the plants that she obsesses over. Ivy's mission in life isn't to take over the city like most of the show's villains... it's just to protect its plant-life and take out those who threaten the environment! Don't be tempted by her beautiful exterior—her kiss can be fatal.
Madame Hydra
AIDA started out as a mere Life-Model Decoy, but an encounter with the Darkhold corrupted her programming. She became consumed by a desire to feel human emotions, and uploaded her own consciousness into the Framework so she could take on the role of Madame Hydra, leader of the HYDRA organization.
Emma Frost
Emma Frost is definitely easy on the eyes, but she's far more than just her supermodel good looks. The Hellfire Club's legendary White Queen is one of the world's most skilled telepaths, so she knows what everyone around her is thinking at all times. And when she's in danger, she can simply change into her diamond form and prepare for battle!
Doctor Poison
Dr. Isabel Maru developed mustard gas for Germany during World War I, earning her the villainous nickname Doctor Poison. Intentional exposure to one of her own gases resulted in severe facial scars, which the Wonder Woman antagonist creepily covers up with special plates shaped and colored to imitate human flesh.
Typhoid Mary
When we were first introduced to Mary in the second season of Netflix's Iron Fist, she seemed shy and incredibly sweet. Then we discovered that she was actually a private investigator, mercenary and former special ops soldier with dissociative identity disorder! Mary was Danny Rand's friend, but her other personality, "Walker," was hired by Joy Meachum to take him out!
Proxima Midnight
Proxima Midnight was one of Thanos' children and a member of the Black Order. She led an army of Outriders into Wakanda in an attempt to retrieve the Infinity Stone lodged in Vision's forehead, and demonstrated a lack of empathy towards her alien soldiers, openly allowing them to fall so she could complete her mission for the Mad Titan.
Dark Phoenix
Jean Grey is one of the original members of the X-Men, but deep inside of her lies one of the mutant super-team's greatest enemies, the Dark Phoenix. As the Phoenix, Jean is able to wipe people out of existence with a mere thought, and her psychic powers are unparalleled.
Mystique
Fox's X-Men: First Class films feature a heroic version of Mystique, but Raven is typically one of the X-Men's greatest adversaries. She's able to take on the appearance of anyone she wants, making her the ultimate spy! It's no wonder she's such a valued member of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Livewire
Leslie Willis was once a shock jock of CatCo Worldwide Media, but after a fatal helicopter accident granted her electrical powers, she turned into the vengeful supervillain Livewire. She used her abilities to repeatedly go after her former boss Cat Grant, putting her at odds with Supergirl and eventually landing her in a DEO cell.
Mariah Dillard
Mariah Dillard became a politician in the hopes of improving the streets of Harlem, but when her cousin Cottonmouth's criminal activities caused her political career to fall apart, she took him out and became indoctrinated into the crime world herself! Mariah eventually became so mad with power, even her partner Shades turned against her.
Raina
Raina started out as an innocent Inhuman scientist devoted to the studying of human nature, but when she joined HYDRA's Centipede Project, she used her scientific expertise to create super soldiers for the criminal organization. Once Raina was exposed to Terrigen Crystals, her physical appearance was dramatically altered and she gained the ability to see visions of the future.
Nora Darhk
We thought Damien Darkh was the most intimidating Arrowverse villain ever... until we met his daughter Nora. She was so desperate to save her wicked father, she allowed herself to become the vessel for the time demon Mallus, giving her access to Mallus' wide variety of superhuman powers. While possessed, Nora could steal people's life energy, shoot blasts of fire and electricity, and move things with her mind!
Lady Deathstrike
Lady Deathstrike might not have been much of a talker in X2, but her brief appearance in the film showed just how powerful she is! She's one of Wolverine's most formidable adversaries in the comics, because her ridiculously long fingernails are just as sharp as his adamantium claws and she's highly trained in hand-to-hand combat.
Indigo
We know that Brainiac 8 is an twisted, blue robot... but we just can't help crushing on her. Indigo is considered to be the most dangerous prisoner ever sentenced to Fort Rozz—she's able to teleport through technology, shape-shift, heal herself AND she has Supergirl's super strength, speed, ability to fly and invulnerability!
Tabitha Galavan
After her brother Theo's plan to take over Gotham failed, Tabitha decided to stop being a mere minion and try her hand at taking over the city's criminal underworld alongside Butch Gilzean and Barbara Kean. She's constantly underestimated, but her enemies quickly learn to fear her and her whip!
Amunet
When Central City's particle accelerator explosion granted Leslie Jocoy the power of magnetokinesis, she left her life as a flight stewardess behind and become a full-fledged crime lord! Now the Flash villain makes a living selling stolen technology in the meta-human black market under the pseudonym Amunet Black.
Esme Frost
Esme Frost teamed up with the heroic mutant underground to free her two sisters, but the moment she accomplished her secret goal (by casually ending the lives of dozens of Sentinel Services agents), she revealed herself as a member of the villainous Inner Circle. She and her sisters are extremely powerful psychics—they can both read and control their enemies' minds!
Madame Gao
At first glance, Madame Gao appears to be a sweet, extremely old woman. She's the ultimate proof that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, though, because Gao is actually an incredibly fearsome warrior! She has enhanced strength, endurance and longevity, so it's no wonder that even crime bosses like the Kingpin have grown to fear her.
Cupid
Carrie Cutter started out as Starling City police officer, but when she became obsessed with The Arrow, she went down a seriously dark path. She started practicing archery—using arrowheads in the shape of a heart—and threatening people in an attempt to get her idol's attention. Cupid was a reluctant member of the Suicide Squad for a while after Oliver Queen brought her to ARGUS, but as soon as she worked off her sentence, she went right back to a life of crime.
Selina Kyle
Even though Gotham's Selina Kyle has become close friends with Bruce Wayne and could get pretty much anything she wanted from the young billionaire if she only asked, she just can't help herself from stealing! Selina prioritizes her own survival above all else, which has caused her to commit some serious crimes and team up with a few questionable individuals.
Black Siren
On Earth One, Laurel Lance became a Team Arrow vigilante hero known as the Black Canary. On Earth Two, however, she went down a drastically different path—Laurel chose to become a supervillain, the Black Siren. This alternate version of Laurel is stubborn, impatient and impulsive... and she seems to really enjoy causing pain and chaos.
Barbara Kean
When we first met Barbara Kean on Gotham, she was a mere art gallery owner and Jim Gordon's fiancée. Then her dark side was brought out by the Ogre, and she became someone else entirely! She eliminated her parents, teamed up with Theo Galavan when he tried to take over the city and went on to try to rule Gotham's criminal underworld herself!
Ayesha
Ayesha, the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign, hired the Guardians of the Galaxy to defend valuable Anulax Batteries from an inter-dimensional monster. When Rocket Raccoon foolishly stole those batteries, she declared his entire team enemies of the Sovereign and vowed to destroy them. Ayesha's grudge against the Guardians became so strong, she developed a new breed of Sovereign to take them out!
Nyssa al Ghul
Nyssa has a warm, caring side when it comes to the people she loves.. but in battle, she's every bit as cold and intimidating as her fellow League of Assassin's members. She's not a typical villain because she actually seems to side with and fight alongside Team Arrow fairly often, but she's not afraid to embrace her dark side and fight or take innocent people if it helps her get what she wants!
Agent 33
Kara Palamas, otherwise known as Agent 33, was a loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who was tragically brainwashed into serving HYDRA. A Photostatic Veil granted her limited shape-shifting abilities, making her an even more formidable spy than she already was. Under Grant Ward's influence, she became cruel and sadistic, even after her HYDRA conditioning wore off.
