It's Practically Impossible To Match All These Pokemon To Their Type

It's time for a Pokemon quiz that'll really the test the knowledge of all trainers out there. Many consider themselves to be Pokemon Masters, but that elusive title can only be held by a select few. There are a lot of factors that go into making a Pokemon Master - a stacked Pokedex, Gym Leader Badge collection and solid knowledge of all species being only a few. For now, let's focus on that last one by seeing which trainers out there can match all these Pokemon to their type.

We're about to take a walk through the tall grass, so let's ensure that our shoelaces are tied tight. The region within this quiz is stacked with Pokemon from all generations, so trainers who haven't kept up with current Pokemon trends are sure to be at a loss as the finish line looms closer. On the other hand, Pokemaniacs who live by their 'dexes might actually be able to get 100% on this, despite it being practically impossible and all.

Acing this quiz might not certify a trainer as a true master, but it's definitely a start. Let's see if there's anyone out there who can match all these Pokemon to their type.

Question 1

What type of Pokemon is Rattata?

Rattata appears before us from the tall grass, ready to strike with a behemoth Tackle! He's tired of everyone thinking he's such an entry level 'mon, and unfortunately, he chose our party to prove itself today. Bad news for the little rat, though - we're walking around with 6 level 100 Pokemon. Ratatouille is about to be served for dinner. While we decide which mythical entity we decide to send out against Rattata, let's see if anyone out there can figure it's typing out.

Question 2

What type of Pokemon is Kakuna?

Kakuna might not move much, but that doesn't mean we should offer it any less respect than a fully mobile Pokemon. After all, if we let this guy chill for a little while, it'll evolve into a speedy Beedrill, and that Beedrill's Speed stat will almost double if ever a worthy trainer presents it with a Mega Stone. All that will take a while, though, so in the meantime, let's just sit back and enjoy the serenity of the forest with Kakuna over here.

Question 3

What type of Pokemon is Spearow?

Experienced Pokemaniacs might remember that a fierce group of wild Spearow famously attacked Ash and dear Pikachu during the very first episode of the Pokemon anime. Of course, our favorite little electric mouse gave them all what for by the end of the episode, but things certainly looked dire for our heroes at a certain point. Since Pikachu's attack worked so well on the Spearow, we might think that the answer to this question is pretty easy, but is it really?

Question 4

What type of Pokemon is Diglett?

Whoa - something just popped out of the ground to say hello to us, and it looks like it's a little Diglett. Just what on earth is this guy doing digging through the virtual underground of this webpage? Anyway, that's a question we'll deal with at another time - for now, let's focus on the little guy's typing. For those out there who need any sort of clue, the way Diglett gets by in the world might hint at its typing.

Question 5

What type of Pokemon is Arbok?

Oh, we're really in for it now. We had hoped that this quiz run through would have been relatively free of obstacles, but it looks like a giant cobra has confronted us in the digital tall grass. To top it off, this looks like a vicious specimen indeed. One wrong move, and we might find ourselves inflicted with a super serious status ailment. While we send out a 'mon to face this wild snake, let's see who can figure out its true typing.

Question 6

What type of Pokemon is Nidorino?

Nidorino is a tricky 'mon to figure out in this quiz, since he looks like he might belong to a number of different typings. Its movepool provides little help, too, since this guy seems like he can learn pretty much every attack under the sun. All we have to rely on here is our knowledge of the Pokemon world, so hopefully that's enough. Nidorino looks like he's getting his Horn Drill attack ready, so let's be quick about picking its typing.

Question 7

What type of Pokemon is Vulpix?

Vulpix might be a small Pokemon, but don't let that serve as the only indicator of its power. Let's not forget that, with access to the move Sunny Day, this little tyke can alter the weather of the playing field to give itself a great advantage. We can't say much more about what that advantage entails, but veteran trainers shouldn't need much of a hint anyway. Let's take a good look at this adorable creature and try figuring out its typing.

Question 8

What type of Pokemon is Venomoth?

Venomoth is one of Gym Leader Koga's go-to Pokemon in battle, which says a lot about its potential. This moth has access to a number of potential movesets, though its Quiver Dance kit is probably the most optimal, especially when paired with the Compound Eyes ability that allows it to get a neutral hit off on pretty much every 'mon out there.

Question 9

What type of Pokemon is Arcanine?

A glorious Arcanine descends into this quiz's Misty Terrain, looking to wreak some serious havoc. Arcanine is typically seen as a peaceful Pokemon, but it's also loyal - it'll always trust its trainer and follow their command to the T. Unfortunately, this one doesn't seem to have a trainer at all, so there's really no telling what it will do here. Its Intimidate ability has already taken effect, and our Attack stat has been decreased by 1. What type of Pokemon is this?

Question 10

What type of Pokemon is Poliwrath?

Poliwrath's stat spread is pretty balanced, but make no mistake - this is one of the most powerful Pokemon of its respective typing out there. It has access to a number of boosting moves, Belly Drum and Power Up Punch to name only a couple. If this 'mon is allowed to set up, the opposing trainer can pretty much kiss their whole team goodbye. Let's not let it boost its attack now - instead, as we've been doing, let's just guess its typing.

Question 11

What type of Pokemon is Magneton?

A mysterious Magneton is floating our way, and we can only hope that this is a friendly specimen. Though of course, there's really no telling what a wild Pokemon's temperament is. In any case, with its sky high Special Attack stat, all we can really do here is hope for the best. Worse comes to worst, though, we can send out one of our Legendaries to one shot it. We'd like to avoid that, so let's just guess its typing.

Question 12

What type of Pokemon is Dewgong?

A wise, lazy, peaceful Dewgong is laying on its sheet of ice, wistfully watching the time go by. As far as original Pokemon go, this guy is pretty nondescript, often getting outshone by the other Pokemon it was released alongside of. Still, dedicated fans of the franchise will never forget Dewgong, and competitive battlers make a point of fearing its Perish Trapping potential. While this wild Dewgong readies itself for a nice nap, let's see if we can figure out what type of 'mon it is.

Question 13

What type of Pokemon is Onix?

Onix is Brock's go to monster, and that definitely says something about its potential in battle. It might not be saying too much, though, since Brock is the very first Gym Leader of the Pokemon story. This monster might be tall and super intimidating, but let's keep in mind that its typing doesn't leave it invulnerable - far from it, actually. Let's not let this 'mon's size throw us off - instead, why don't we guess its typing and move on.

Question 14

What type of Pokemon is Exeggutor?

We've taken a left turn down bizarro road, and now we've run into this super strange creature. Not only is it a living palm tree, but its consciousness is split between three coconut heads. Each head has its own personality, but who's really running the show here? At any rate, we don't have time to think about that right now, since Exeggutor is about to set up a Trick Room. Let's click on its typing before we all get swept away.

Question 15

What type of Pokemon is Chansey?

Here she is - the behemoth that broke the current metagame, or at least she comes super close to doing so. Stall is the dominant play style of today, and Chansey is the cornerstone of stall. With its incredible bulk, she can shrug off most attacks like they were bits of candy being thrown at her. In this quiz, however, her great defensive potential makes no difference to us - regardless of how long she stalls, we'll guess her typing eventually.

Question 16

What type of Pokemon is Kangaskhan?

Kangaskhan might be modeled after a kangaroo, but it can do much more than its counterpart in the real world can. For instance, can kangaroos learn moves like Fake Out, Sucker Punch and Earthquake. Yeah, we don't think so. Unfortunately for us, this wild Kangaskhan looks like it's ready to use all three of those moves on us, in that order. If we allow it to do that, we might just be sent to the Pokemon Center, so let's be quick about this question.

Question 17

What type of Pokemon is Gyarados?

Now we've done it - somewhere during our play through of this quiz, we managed to awaken the titanic beast known as Gyarados. Although many generations have passed since this 'mon was first introduced to the world, it's still considered one of the toughest creatures out there. Additionally, it was given a huge boost in the last generation when Z moves were introduced. That means that this wild Gyarados might have a Supersonic Skystrike ready for us, and we do not want to be on the receiving end.

Question 18

What type of Pokemon is Porygon?

Even to this day, trainers still don't tend to know what to make of this Pokemon. Porygon is a bit of a mess, and an amorphous one at that. As some might remember, this Pokemon notoriously had a bad effect on this side of the screen when it produced a light show in the anime that produced actual seizures in the real world. Porygon has calmed down since then, but make no mistake - we'll always keep our eyes on this one.

Question 19

What type of Pokemon is Aerodactyl?

Aerodactyl swoops in from the unforgiving skies above, ready to capture its next prey. Sure, this 'mon is big, strong and super fast, but it has no idea what sort of broken team we've packed for this quiz. Let's hope it wises up before it reaches the ground, otherwise it might never fly again. While we keep our eyes peeled for its descent, let's see if anyone out there remembers a critical detail about Aerodactyl - we mean its typing, of course.

Question 20

What type of Pokemon is Mewtwo?

Even those who haven't played any Pokemon since the old days of Red and Blue will remember Mewtwo, since this genetically engineered 'mon served as the unofficial final boss of the game. Trainers worthy enough to defeat the Elite Four were finally allowed through to Cerulean Cave where this big bad feline resides. Then, once standing face to face against Mewtwo, only a few options present themselves: defeat it, get defeated by it, run away from it or catch it. Now, though, all we have to do is click its typing.

Question 21

What type of Pokemon is Crobat?

Whoa, what was that! It felt like a speeding missile just passed overhead, and it was moving so fast that we couldn't even see it. Look, there it is! Oh, it's just a Crobat. Well, we should still keep our guards up, since this gen 2 'mon is known for being particularly mean. Sure, it might not have the chops to compete in the OU tier, but this 'mon is a dominant force in UU. What type is it, again?

Question 22

What type of Pokemon is Pichu?

Since Pichu is the pre-evolved form of Pikachu, most of us will have no problem recognizing it. Still, the amateur maniacs among us might not be able to guess its typing. Do Pokemon types change within the same evolutionary chain? Maybe they do, but we won't say one way or another. After all, our job is to challenge trainers here, not hold their hands. While our hearts melt looking at this adorable little rodent, let's see who knows what type of 'mon it is.

Question 23

What type of Pokemon is Lanturn?

Lanturn is a truly unique 'mon - for instance, it's capable of generating a tremendous amount of light energy. In competitive play, it's often used as a great pivot, mainly due to its good bulk applied in tandem with its access to Volt Switch. If given the right team support, Lanturn can last a long, good while before going down, making it a heavily sought after 'mon, especially down in the PU tier where it resides. What type of Pokemon is this?

Question 24

What type of Pokemon is Xatu?

Entry hazards (like Spikes, Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock) are highly prominent in both current and past metagames, and we doubt they'll be going anywhere anytime soon. However, thanks to Xatu's Magic Bounce ability, any trainer who sets up hazards against it will instead find the hazards on their side of the field. Essentially, as long as entry hazards are relevant in the metagame, Xatu will always be around. Let's see if anyone can guess this mysterious 'mon's true typing.

Question 25

What type of Pokemon is Aipom?

We were just about to take a bite out of a delicious apple, but this Aipom just swung down from a tree and snatched it from us. Now we're really angry, and we're about to use Swords Dance three times with our Arceus and then unleash a Breakneck Blitz on this pesky little monkey! That punishment might not fit the crime, but we were really looking forward to that apple. While we send Aipom to the next world, let's all guess its typing.

Question 26

What type of Pokemon is Umbreon?

Umbreon is by far the bulkiest of the Eeveelutions, which gives it a special place within that family. Those who have faced it in battle are all too familiar with the way most attacks just bounces off its skin, having little to no effect. Thankfully, we don't have to face its stall tactics today - we just have to click on its typing.

Question 27

What type of Pokemon is Girafarig?

Girafarig is one of those totally nondescript Pokemon that only dedicated trainers tend to remember. After all, it's not the flashiest looking 'mons, and it's far from being the strongest in battle, either. However, at the very least, we can say that Girafarig has a pretty unique typing. In lower tiers, if it's based around the right team, this Pokemon can get some decent damage off on its opponent. What type of Pokemon are we looking at here? Let's see.

Question 28

What type of Pokemon is Shuckle?

Shucks - it looks like we've just bumped into a wild Shuckle, which means we might be here for a long while. After all, this guy has the highest defenses in the game, though unfortunately for him, they're paired with an HP stat no one would brag about. Still, that doesn't stop it from sponging hits like they were nothing but air. On top of that, it has access to multiple entry hazards that can seriously debilitate opposing teams. What type of 'mon is he, anyway?

Question 29

What type of Pokemon is Ursaring?

We seemed to have awoken a ferocious bear, and this 'mon is known for having no mercy for its foes. With its Guts ability, even if we burn Ursaring in battle, it'll only become that much stronger - especially if it has access to the Facade attack. In any case, we'd better hope we have a bulky Ghost type on our team. While we check for that - and while Ursaring lunges at us without restraint - let's click its typing.

Question 30

What type of Pokemon is Absol?

Absol is absolutely one of the coolest 'mons to have ever been released. Back when it was introduced to us in gen 2, we had seen nothing like it before, and nothing like its typing. At any rate, let's take a good look at this monster and click its typing.

Question 31

What type of Pokemon is Lugia?

Lugia is a Legendary beast introduced to the Pokemon world way back in the Gold and Silver days. Of course, it represented the color silver while Ho-Oh represented Gold. Every trainer had his or her preferred specimen, and we happened (re: happen) to belong to team Lugia. Question 32

What type of Pokemon is Ludicolo?

Ludicolo is completely loco, but we don't blame him for it - that's his nature and namesake, after all. Introduced to us in the Ruby and Sapphire era, this 'mon remains a semi relevant threat due to its capability of setting up and sweeping opposing, unprepared teams. We won't say exactly how this guy sets up and sweeps, since that might point too clearly at the right answer here. Instead, we'll leave the guesswork up to the trainers out there.

Question 33

What type of Pokemon is Breloom?

Don't judge a Breloom by its cover - while this Pokemon might look like the average, mindless brawler, we can't forget the fact that it has access to the formidable Spore attack, which puts most opposing Pokemon to sleep instantly and reliably. And really, when a Pokemon is asleep, they tend not to have much of an answer for the Focus Punch with their name on it that's headed their way. While we hastily rummage in our belt for an immune challenger, let's click on Breloom's typing.

Question 34

What type of Pokemon is Hariyama?

Hariyama is a heck of a sumo wrestler, and if it were a part of the real world, it could probably take down the great Yokozuna in his prime. However, in the Pokemon world, several battling styles exist outside of sump wrestling, so Hariyama has had to adapt its kit over the years to properly find its place in the metagame. It might not be the most sought after Pokemon of its typing, but it always has potential to wreak havoc on opposing teams.

Question 35

What type of Pokemon is Mawile?

Don't be fooled by the innocent mile on Mawile's face, since he's smiling because he knows that victory is all but assured for him here. Question 36

What type of Pokemon is Crawdaunt?

It looks like we're in for a serious whooping, because the great Crawdaunt has surfaced, and he looks bored. Wait, did we just give the answer to the question away? Either way, it's too late now.

Question 37

What type of Pokemon is Armaldo?

Armaldo is a wacky armadillo who has entered this quiz looking to play a game of chess with us. Question 38

What type of Pokemon is Jirachi?

Jirachi doesn't seem to mind us calling for its appearance in this quiz, even though it's a classic Legendary Pokemon that's highly in demand. Question 39

What type of Pokemon is Bidoof?

Of course, this trickster won't give it to us for free - we'll have to click on its typing first.

Let's take a look at this levitating Legend and guess what type it belongs to.

What type of Pokemon is Stoutland?

With that in mind, let's see if we can click on Stoutland's typing.

We see it here in its true form, which makes guessing its typing that much easier.

What type of Pokemon is Haxorus?

Most generations feature a Pokemon like Haxorus right at the end of their respective Pokedexes, though we can't say much more about the trend than that, since doing so would probably reveal the answer. What type of Pokemon is Bisharp?

Bisharp is a notoriously fearsome Pokemon - its mere appearance on a battlefield usually indicates a surefire loss for the opponent, unless of course they have a solid check to stop the beast. What type of Pokemon is Drampa?
