If You Fail This DX Quiz, We Have Two Words For You

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, D-Generation X proudly brings to you the greatest quiz in the world. Well, at least that’s what we hope fans of the group will be saying as they answer the following questions, documenting the careers of perhaps the most popular and iconic stable in WWE history.

During the already chaotic Attitude Era, no other faction mixed comedy with violence in the same way as DX, playing games on other superstars with both hilarious and furious results. Initially just a three person crew, DX eventually grew to be one of the largest and most dominant in WWE history, thanks to a certain star member marrying into the McMahon family.

From their simple origins to the days they literally ruled the WWE Universe, what set DX apart from other groups was their controversial nature, never shying away from content other groups would consider too provocative. This makes it pretty easy for the casual wrestling audience to remember their most outrageous moments, but only true fans can name all the specifics on exactly what it was those degenerates were up to. If that sounds like you, prove it by taking our quiz and showing us everything you know about D-Generation X. And for those of you who may take the quiz and fail, well, we’ve got two words for ya…

Question 1

What year did D-Generation X form?

The exact date of origin for D-Generation X is a little fuzzy. Basically, Shawn Michaels and Triple H were getting in a habit of making lots of enemies, and they gradually started helping one another out and watch each other’s backs. Naturally, HHH’s bodyguard/valet would also help out when things seriously got out of hand. After a few random pairings and team ups, the two decided to take their partnership to the next level, eventually coming up with the DX names and trademarks. We won’t ask for an a day or even a month, but do you know what year it all went down?

Question 2

Who was the fourth person to join DX?

Born from the regular team of Shawn Michaels and Triple H, those two wrestlers obviously became the two men most associated with the name D-Generation X. Fans who were around at the time will also always remember Chyna’s involvement, no matter how little HHH wants them too. However, plenty of people have already forgotten the fourth member of DX, and with somewhat of a good reason. The wrestler was only in DX for about a month before jumping ship to WCW, and quite frankly, he didn’t contribute much to the group when he was around despite his legendary status. Who was he?

Question 3

Overall, how many female members did DX have?

Despite WWE’s efforts to erase her from history, most fans of DX are well aware of Chyna’s contributions to the group as one of the earliest and most dominant members they ever had. That said, she’s typically the only female member of DX anyone can recall. This seems a little suspicious, considering a group as cool and edgy as the green and black degenerates felt like the type of guys who would always want a few ladies at their side. Were there other gals in the group, or was Chyna really the only one?

Question 4

Which of the following wrestlers was NOT a member of DX?

In some respects, D-Generation X ultimately turned into a pretty big group for a wrestling stable. Containing up to six members at its largest, DX was definitely a heftier bunch than the Four Horsemen or the Varsity Club, but on the other hand, they were relatively small compared to some other groups of the era. For example, the Corporation and Ministry of Darkness both had as many members, and then they merged into one, far eclipsing DX’s numbers. Then there’s the nWo, who at times ballooned into the double digits. Point is, not everyone was welcome in DX’s doors.

Question 5

Which tag team was a cornerstone of DX’s success?

A truly great stable needs to be more than just a collection of singles stars, or else things will get too crowded and fans lose track of who the leader is supposed to be. While DX’s ranks grew over time, it was always clear what the roles were, with Triple H or Shawn Michaels leading the flow, X-Pac the trusted general, and the duo of “Road Dogg” Jesse James and “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn, who six times became the Tag Team Champions of the Woooooorld. What did they call themselves when teaming?

Question 6

Who held the WWE Tag Team Championships with a DX member, but didn’t join the group himself?

For as large as D-Generation X would get at times, there was far from an open door policy. Even a few wrestlers who seemingly wanted to join DX, constantly helping them out and getting involved in their matches, weren’t always allowed to don the green and black. It also didn’t matter if fans were rabid at the idea, as proven when X-Pac formed an incredibly popular WWE Tag Team Championship winning team while in the group and his partner still wasn’t allowed to officially join.

Question 7

Who joined DX the night after Shawn Michaels’s first retirement?

Existing for close to a full decade on and off, D-Generation X obviously went through some changes in its day. Initially a three person group with Shawn Michaels, Chyna, and Triple H, there soon came a time when that first name was too injured/strung out on drugs to keep wrestling, and the second name was gone before long, too. This meant HHH needed to find a few new allies to aide him in his degenerate takeover, and he wasted no time in doing so, introducing a key member the night after WrestleMania XIV. Who was it?

Question 8

Who was the last woman to join DX?

All right, so we’ve already established there were more than one female degenerate, but whether or not anyone can actually remember the women of DX’s names aside from Chyna has yet to be determined. Most people could probably put two and two together in regards to Triple H’s later success in life and figure out Stephanie McMahon was also part of the group at one point, and that leaves just one other female member who has almost entirely been forgotten to time. Do you remember who she was?

Question 9

Which championship was never held by a member of DX (while the group was still together)?

In addition to their rebellious spirit, one of the major factors setting D-Generation X apart from other groups of their attitude-filled era was the gold its members often wore around their waists. Practically everyone to wear the green in black also wore a championship belt or two in their day, usually both before and after their time in DX. That said, not even the band of degenerates were able to capture every single title in the company when they were around. Which of the following titles eluded their grasp?

Question 10

Which WWE Commissioner was DX’s first executive foil?

Described as anti-authority from the word go, it should be no surprise that the one of the first people to incur D-Generation X’s wrath would be the WWE Commissioner. Sure, Shawn Michaels was still embroiled in his personal vendetta against Bret Hart, and Triple H had his fair share of wrestling enemies as well, but the two along with Chyna seemed to take the most pride in their pranks and tricks on the Commish. In doing so, they were also setting the tone for a decades long rivalry against management in general, and the McMahon family in particular.

Question 11

What championship was on the line when HBK let HHH beat him?

Of all the tricks D-Generation X played on Sgt. Slaughter, the events of December 22nd’s episode of Monday Night Raw is perhaps the most infamous. In an effort to fight back against the two jerks making his life hell, the WWE Commissioner demanded Triple H and Shawn Michaels wrestle one another, and to ensure they would take it seriously, he put HBK’s prized belt on the line when he did so. Unfazed, DX put on a comical farce of a match that ended with HBK laying down and letting HHH win. What title did he give his friend in the process?

Question 12

Which boxer temporarily joined DX as an unofficial member?

In some respects, D-Generation X were bigger than WWE or even pro wrestling, truly becoming a part of popular culture history in general. If that weren’t the case, they never would have gained the assistance of the Baddest Man on the Planet. Of course, doing that turned out to backfire on Shawn Michaels when his boxing buddy double crossed him at WrestleMania XIV. Even so, for a few short weeks, this championship boxer donned DX’s green and black, giving them significant mainstream exposure. Who was he?

Question 13

What rival stable did DX first parody to controversial results?

It’s hard to say whether or not they would get away with them today, but during the Attitude Era, the blatantly offensive parodies D-Generation X made of their fellow WWE superstars played a huge role in their success. While the execution of these parodies was definitely controversial, they weren’t without brilliance on a basic level, allowing as many as five feuds to continue all in one single segment. To fans of DX’s sophomoric humor, they were also pretty darn hilarious, which should make it easy for you to remember the group they were mocking in their most famous impression.

Question 14

What larger stable was DX part of in the year 2000?

Getting back to the point of how stables were just gigantic during the Attitude Era, there once reached a point when all heel alliances basically blended together into one. This naturally included D-Generation X, and not just because Triple H was the leader of both groups. The larger organization also held all the power in the WWE Universe, a fact still true of its key members to this day. Naturally, any and all bad guys wanted a piece of the pie, and thus answered the call whenever opportunity knocked.

Question 15

What did DX call their tour bus?

Most wrestling factions pride themselves on styling and profiling, and therefore do most of their travel via limousine. However, D-Generation X were never content to buck to the trends of their contemporaries, and therefore they decided limos were a little bit outdated. Instead, DX mimicked cooler idols in rock stars, taking a page out of the musician’s handbook and going from arena to arena in a massive tour bus. Unfortunately, their mobile palace was eventually destroyed by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, but until the Rattlesnake struck, what did they call it?

Question 16

Who did Stephanie McMahon defeat for the WWE Women’s title with DX’s assistance?

For all the talk about how Stephanie McMahon has used her influence to keep her husband on top of the WWE Universe for nearly two decades, fans tend to gloss over the fact she also made herself Women’s Champion for a solid five months during the company’s highest rated period. Granted, she didn’t do it all by herself, employing the help of Tori and X-Pac to distract the referee and help her take home the gold. Still, the length of her reign combined with how rarely she defended the title paint an unsavory picture.

Question 17

Which stable did remnants of DX face at Survivor Series 2000?

During the Attitude Era, one of Vince McMahon’s favorite tropes was the idea of “stable wars,” or setting it up so the members of two given factions were all paired up in heated feuds. DX experienced a number of these over the years, the most famous being waged against the Hart Foundation and the Nation. However, there was still gas left in the DX Express after those groups fell apart, leading to one last battle throughout the winter of 2000. Reaching its natural conclusion, the two stables collided at Survivor Series 2000.

Question 18

What tag team did Shawn Michaels and Triple H defeat for the Unified Tag Team Championships?

Now that we’re about halfway into the quiz, it’s time to transition from DX’s time as the most rambunctious stable of the Attitude Era to their less controversial and more, shall we say, goofy second-life as a tag team. After about six years of dormancy, the green and black brand revived when founding members Shawn Michaels and Triple H ceased their feuding and became friends once again, soon dominating the doubles division like never before. Though late in their respective careers, HHH and HBK used their combined powers to break further ground, winning the Tag Team Championships for the first time.

Question 19

Who teamed with Vince and Shane McMahon to face DX in a Hell in a Cell match?

The revived version of D-Generation X had just as many enemies as the original, yet once again, their true rivals were authority figures. At that point, everything was in the clear about who ran the WWE Universe, so instead of having fake commissioners do his dirty work, Vince McMahon himself needed to face DX directly. Of course, he didn’t need to do it alone or under terms that were anywhere near fair, setting up a handicap Hell in a Cell match pitting himself, his son, and a very powerful third partner against the two wrestlers who wouldn’t leave him alone.

Question 20

Who was Triple H wrestling during the infamous DX/nWo confrontation?

To some fans, and it was the coolest moment of WrestleMania 31. Then again, ask some others and it still doesn’t make the slightest lick of sense to this day, and thus felt like pathetic pandering fan service taken to an almost insulting level. Either way, the DX/nWo confrontation was indeed a momentous occasion, for better or for worse. Much of the confusion comes down to who Triple H was wrestling at the time, a noted nWo enemy who never once made peace with the group and thus had no logical connection to them. Who was it?

Question 21

Which cruiserweight wrestler briefly served as the DX “mascot?”

The final incarnation of D-Generation X was significantly smaller than the earlier versions, never adding any members aside from founders Triple H and Shawn Michaels. However, still one of the hottest brands in wrestling, DX attracted plenty of lesser WWE superstars who were dying to join the fold. This included a certain diminutive firebrand who simply wouldn’t take no for an answer when it came to joining DX. Eventually, Triple H decided the guy was pretty funny and possessed a prankster’s spirit, dubbing him the DX mascot. Who was he?

Question 22

What random backstage employee did Shawn Michaels kick to prove he was still controversial?

We don’t know if it was controversial, but it sure was funny. Shortly after D-Generation X reunited as a tag team circa 2006, Shawn Michaels and Triple H were hanging out backstage, browsing through the pages of WWE.com. Somehow, the conversation got around to Eric Bischoff claiming the group wasn’t controversial, which HBK took an unusual amount of offense to. Wanting to prove his detractors wrong, Michaels asked a random WWE employee his name and kicked the guy in the face before running away, still ranting and raving about his talents towards controversy. Do you remember the scrub’s name?

Question 23

Which wrestler inadvertently named DX by calling Shawn Michaels a degenerate?

Getting back to the origins of D-Generation X for a minute, this might feel like a trick question to some, because it certainly wasn’t made a focus on WWE television. However, many fans of DX went on to notice a certain rival of Shawn Michaels called him a degenerate just a few short weeks before HBK turned around and proudly named his group after the phrase, leading to many believe said opponent basically named the group. He may deny it himself, not wanting anything to do with their rebellious antics, but who was the curmudgeonly superstar in question?

Question 24

What rock band appeared on an episode of Monday Night Raw to perform a song with DX?

With all due respect to X-Pac’s talent for crotch-chopping, we have to admit it may be a bit of a stretch claiming D-Generation X added all that much to the performance, but this is indeed how WWE promoted a huge special guest appearance on the October 26, 1998 episode of Monday Night Raw. What really happened was Road Dogg introduced the band, which then sang their recent songs “Bitter Pill” and “Wild Side” while X-Pac bounced around like a goofball. In any event, who were the rock legends Road Dogg introduced?

Question 25

Which iconic rap group briefly performed the DX theme song?

The Crüe were far from the only musicians looking to get in on a piece of the DX pie. First of all, there was also the Chris Warren Band, which later changed its name to the DX Band, showing how successful that jumping off point was at kick starting Warren’s his career. Closer to Mötley Crüe in fame and reputation were the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer inducted rappers who performed DX’s second theme song for several months in the year 2000. The group had earlier ties to wrestling, as well, having written WrestleMania V’s “WrestleMania Rap.”

Question 26

Who did Shawn Michaels wrestle at D-Generation X: In Your House?

Back before every WWE Network special was lazily named after whatever random type the company was shoving down fans throats at the time, the In Your House Pay-Per-View series offered a handful of cleverly titled specials taken from the catchphrases of its greatest superstars. Simply naming out of these events after DX is somewhere in between lazy and a tribute, but at least HBK’s presence defending the WWE Championship in the main event made the moniker a fitting one. Who challenged for the gold that night?

Question 27

Which non-DX member did the group help win the WWE Championship on January 4, 1999?

Believe it or not, there was actually a point in time when DX’s rebellious nature actually had some altruistic side effects. Always wanting to be a thorn in Vince McMahon’s side, if there was a wrestler who the boss didn’t like, DX might just help their fellow superstar out just to piss off the man in charge. Their greatest accomplishment in this regard came on arguably the most important episode of Raw in history, when they assisted an unlikely ally in defeating The Rock for the WWE Championship. Who was it?

Question 28

Which DX member had an onscreen relationship with Tori?

In the defense of anyone who couldn’t remember Tori was the last female member of D-Generation X, it has to be said that she really didn’t do much in the group. Yeah, she helped Steph win the Women’s Championship and leering Attitude Era fans probably appreciated her tight green tank tops, but Tori rarely wrestled or got involved in matches while supporting DX colors. She did, however, date one of its key members, which was the whole reason she joined in the first place.

Question 29

What vehicle did DX infamously ride to a taping of WCW Monday Nitro?

It was an event so momentous it singlehandedly won the Monday Night Wars…well, okay, that’s a pretty gigantic stretch if you ask us, but this is legitimately how WWE has framed the even in retrospect. In all fairness, it was a pretty big deal when DX invaded WCW Monday Nitro, as it was the most direct shot fired from WWE to WCW or vice versa at the company’s most contentious time. It happened only weeks after Raw defeated Nitro for the first time in years, signaling WWE was ready to make a comeback and destroy the competition once and for all.

Question 30

Which team was Triple H facing when Shawn Michaels saved him to reform DX in 2006?

The 2006 DX revival hardly came out of nowhere, as fans had been clamoring for such an event at least four years at that point. Ever since Triple H and Shawn Michaels faked out a reunion in 2002, leading up to their SummerSlam classic, old school DX diehards were begging the two to get together again for the real deal. They finally got their wish during the most unlikely segment, wherein Triple H suffered a beat down from a group most would consider way beneath him. And yet, he couldn’t fight back until HBK made the save.

Question 31

Who was Shawn Michaels wrestling when Rick Rude joined the group?

Maybe it’s a little unfair to expect fans to remember a seemingly random moment in DX history, wherein the group’s least visible member officially joined the fold. However, the addition of Rick Rude into DX was deceptively important in the grander scheme of things, as it was the spark that cemented once and for all the partnership between Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and Chyna was more than just a few people opportunistically helping one another out. This was a movement designed to keep HBK specifically on top, as evidenced by Rude helping him defeat which wrestler?

Question 32

Who did Shawn Michaels defeat to win DX’s first WWE Championship?

Ultimately, D-Generation X would become one of the most decorated groups in WWE history. Putting it bluntly, this means they won a whole bunch of gold during their day, as this quiz has mentioned time and again. However, we still haven’t asked about when it all began, referring to the first time a member of DX took home the grand prize of pro wrestling, the WWE Championship. We’ll tell you it was HBK who first brought the title to the green and black, but who did he defeat to do so?

Question 33

Which backstage group were Triple H and Shawn Michaels already part of prior to founding DX?

In some respects, it could be argued D-Generation X was around and impacting the WWE Universe for several full years before they ever debuted on television. Before they ever teamed up on screen, Shawn Michaels and Triple H were already close friends backstage, and they weren’t alone. Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, X-Pac, and a few others also got along incredibly well, sometimes using this influence to sway the opinions of Vince McMahon in their favor. Well, allegedly, anyway. Whether this influence was overstated or not, what was the group called?

Question 34

What infamous Kliq incident did HHH and HBK brag about on an episode of Raw?

Wrestling fans who read the rumor mill knew about The Kliq from the first time Shawn Michaels walked into Vince McMahon’s office. Despite what the Internet might tell you, however, not everyone constantly searchers for insider wrestling information, and most are actually content to take sports entertainment at face value. This was no longer possible after a certain incident at Madison Square Garden, where feuding rivals HBK, Kevin Nash, HHH, and Razor Ramon all shared a big group hug in the middle of the ring. What was the event later called?

Question 35

Which announcer does the infamous DX intro parody?

Are you ready? Are you rrreeeeeady? Then, let’s get ready to…wrap up this quiz with a question about arguably the most infamous sentence Triple H (and then Billy Gunn) ever spoke. Every fan of DX knows their PG-13 catchphrase, and just to be clear, we were joking way back in the intro when we suggested those who fail this quiz listen to it. What not everyone may realize in hindsight is that the whole “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls…” spiel was a parody from beginning to end, one of the many shots by WWE at WCW, mocking the legendary announcer who introduced their main events.
