If You Can't Name At Least 50% Of These MCU Superheroes, Thanos Wins

We're a couple of weeks since Infinity War and TheQuiz reader, I don't feel so good...

Yes, I made that joke. No, I don't regret it. Yes, I'm going to get to the point of why you're taking this quiz today. There are 30 superheros on this list from the MCU - many are Avengers, some are Guardians of the Galaxy, and five are the heroes from their own Netflix shows - and you're going to tell us who all of them are. If you get most of the questions wrong, you're not going to feel good either.

With that said, let's go over some basic things to note going in:

All of the characters on this list are currently classified as heroes. So you won't have to tell us who Loki or the Red Skull is. Superhero is the key word.

We're going to try limiting spoilers from the more recent movies, though pretty much anything we mention from Infinity War was either said in trailers or before release by those involved in the movie.

29 of the questions have four options. One only has two options, but you'll understand why that is when you get to that question.

Are you ready to take on Thanos? No? Well, the galaxy can't really wait much longer.

Question 1

Technically, the first Avenger

Are you really going to make me ask this? Fine. Do you know what happens when this guy throws his mighty shield? All those who oppose the shield must yield because if this guy is called to a fight and a duel is due, then the red and the white and the blue will come through. That's what happens when this guy throws his mighty shield. He's my personal favorite of the Marvel superheroes, so there's even more pressure on you here.

Question 2

The first modern superhero (in the MCU)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe recently turned ten years old, debuting in May 2008 with the story of a billionaire genius philanthropist playboy going through a traumatic experience and then deciding to fight bad guys. Along the way, his morals are challenged but he always remains firm, even if it means alienating those around him and making decisions that don't always agree with others. And no, we're not talking about the Dark Knight here. Which rich superhero are we instead discussing?

Question 3

A man with amazing anger issues

There's technically two versions of this character in the MCU, so here's the short version. Edward Norton played the character in a 2008 movie which was set in the same continuity as Iron Man - and helped establish that a cinematic universe was certainly in play - but also seemed like a sequel to the 2003 now non-canon movie. Then, Norton left over contract disputes, Mark Ruffalo has played the character since 2012, and this jolly green giant has remained a fan favorite.

Question 4

God of Thunder

Even if you knew nothing about Norse mythology before starting the Marvel movies - or vice versa, actually - you should know who this is. He's one of the heroes who debuted all the way back in Marvel's first phase and is the God of Thunder, though his mighty hammer is no more. He can shoot lightning like he's Emperor Palpatine and has some of the best one-liners that one could expect from a demigod that is nicknamed "Point Break" by Tony Stark.

Question 5

Deadly assassin who now has blonde hair

And while she may have blonde hair in Infinity War and likely going forward, the red hair is what she's best known for. It's why Captain America is in his normal gear as opposed to his Infinity War look with a beard, longer hair, and a more modern suit for this quiz. A USSR-trained assassin who reformed and worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., Scarlett Johansson has played the hell out of this role - the character is the assassin, not Scarlett - and we're excited for what the future holds.

Question 6

A key (and underrated) Avenger

When we first met this archer, many fans were critical or skeptical of what he meant to a team that featured a Super Soldier, a demigod, a Hulk, and a man of Iron. Six years since The Avengers first came out, this guy is a fan favorite who is still a bit under appreciated by fans with the addition of so many other superheroes. Chances are we're going to see him return in Avengers 4 with that mighty bow and arrow. Who is this?

Question 7

The man behind The Avengers

While this S.H.I.E.L.D. commander isn't a superhero, we have to include Samuel L. Jackson on this list for assembling The Avengers. Did you know that this character was white for decades before being rebooted as a black man with Samuel L. Jackson's likeness in the comics? The only rule was that the next time he appeared in a movie, Jackson wanted to play the role, which made this casting and all of his further appearances easy. What legendary S.H.I.E.L.D. commander is this?

Question 8

The youngest of the current fighters

Do we really have to go over his backstory again? Seeing as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has mostly opted not to discuss it, let's do it. This teenager was bitten by a radioactive spider and now fights crime in New York City in hopes of joining The Avengers. Well, Tony Stark finally gave him that offer, so now he's an Avenger. We just hope that this teenager is feeling better - oh no, we just said the meme. I may have gone too far in a few places.

Question 9

Potentially the most popular superhero right now

While this hero didn't debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until 2016, his current popularity is enough to put him this early in the quiz. He's the first black superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have his own movie and is a source of black pride for many. There's a reason why this movie continues to climb the all-time box chart rankings, even if people thought it was a bit too violent or found a way to complain. Who is this?

Question 10

The savior of Hell's Kitchen

Let's talk about the Netflix shows, because they count as Marvel Cinematic Universe properties, they're superheroes, and they're people everyone knows. We're going to start off with the hero of Hell's Kitchen, who was blinded after a childhood accident but still manages to save the city from evil ninjas and crooked kingpins. It's too bad that his show's third season is probably going to be extremely depressing and see the city turn on him, especially if it takes place after Civil War.

Question 11

A woman who can feel emotions

The Guardians of the Galaxy movies have allowed Marvel to explore...well, the greater galaxy. We wind up getting creatures and species like the one this female is from, as she can sense emotions and what's going through someone's head just by putting her hands on their head. It's also enough of a trick to help them sleep or knock them out in combat, which is why she was somewhat of a slave in the second movie. Who is this woman?

Question 12

A woman who enjoys hiding emotions

If you smell anger while reading and answering this question, this badass New Yorker is probably the cause. Experimented on as a young girl, the sole survivor of a car crash which killed her entire family (or did it? Go watch Season 2 if you haven't where we learn more) gained superhuman strength and a higher tolerance for alcohol. She's become a mental health icon out of universe for dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more. We love her! Who is this?

Question 13

Leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy

Many people are currently upset with this Guardian for his action and behavior in Infinity War - and no, we're not spoiling it - but it all fit him to a T. This guy is brash, bold, and reckless, which often helps his crew and the galaxy but also puts them in serious trouble. It's why I almost want Guardians 3 to be almost like an Indiana Jones movie, where the Guardians learn about some relic and try to get it. Who is this not-Indiana Jones?

Question 14

I am...

Saying his name would be a bit of a spoiler given he only has one name, but that's all we the viewer hear him say: "I am ____." Other characters can understand him/it, though I've always figured it's almost like the Pokémon series where the Pokémon can only say their names (though that's being retconned out) and their trainers can understand them. If Guardians 3 goes with my Indiana Jones idea, this guy needs to be Short Round. Who is this?

Question 15

A talking, CGI racoon

No, I did not grab a picture of a raccoon that nearly got hit on I-95 for this quiz. There's actually a talking raccoon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who travels with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Bradley Cooper makes this guy arguably the most memorable and greatest of the Guardians and we're going to see even more of him in Avengers 4. We are so on board with this raccoon's romance with Thor, by the way. What's the raccoon's name?

Question 16

Captain America's best friend

Way back in 1940s Brooklyn, Captain America and the man who eventually became The Winter Soldier - we want his actual name here, not his alias - were best friends before the latter seemingly died in World War II. He was instead kept alive by HYDRA, turned into an assassin who likely killed John F. Kennedy, and stayed that way until Cap helped him. We're looking for his real name because he's basically shed his old alias to this point.

Question 17

Can I please try that suit?

And now, we're in the stage of "those who were not originally Avengers but became them later" starting with Tony Stark's best friend. Originally played by Terrence "Mayne" Howard, a Hulk-like situation happened when Howard left over contract disputes and was replaced with Don Cheadle. Howard's biggest role since 2008 was Red Tails, which George Lucas thought was groundbreaking for Hollywood because it had an all-black cast. He seriously said that. Cheadle's in five MCU movies with a sixth coming next year. Thanks, contract disputes!

Question 18

Can I please try those wings?

Not only did we get Don Cheadle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we also got Anthony Mackie. There's a great picture going around the internet of this guy referencing his appearance as Papa Doc in 8 Mile, with Eminem saying, "This guy's an Avenger? His real name's Clarence!" Actually, his real name is Sam Wilson, Em, but thanks for the contribution. Give us a music video for Castle! Back on topic. What is this Avenger's codename since we already spoiled his real name?

Question 19

The Sorcerer Supreme

This one should be very, very easy. Yes, we went with the joke here of the answers all being similar, so it's on you to figure out which one it is. If you want us to talk about any of the controversies of this character, to his movie being accused of Whitewashing to his own actions in Infinity War, you're not getting any of it. Just go and answer the question instead of trying to get me to say something bad. I like this character!

Question 20

Harlem's hero

We're back to the Netflix shows for a character that I would figure is going to be in the movies at some point. I'm also curious how the Netflix shows are going to handle Infinity War, seeing as how they're all based in New York City which is attacked by Ebony Maw and Thanos' soldiers. Are we going to get a second season of The Defenders that sees this guy and friends beat up the aliens? Who is this guy?

Question 21

Adopted daughter of Thanos

You can't help who your parents are. You really can't help who your adopted parents are. You really, really can't help if your adopted father is a maniac who wants to eliminate half the universe. And like the people who got upset when Thor commented that Loki was adopted in The Avengers, I can't wait for people to get angry when someone makes some sort of crack about this girl being adopted in later movies. Who doesn't love controversy on the internet? What's her name?

Question 22

You may know him as The Destroyer

No, the Destroyer is not enough of an answer here, as we're looking for his actual name. On another note, did you know that people in the Autism community seem to love this character for being a voice for them? I never made the connection, but many have said that his mannerisms and behavior are much like someone with autism. Whether or not that was intended, it's awesome to see people have a superhero they can look up to and relate to. Who is this?

Question 23

Frank Castle is called The..

I had to put on this guy's show's theme song while doing this question because of how awesome both he and the song are. Jon Bernthal really deserves his own standalone movie with how great he's been in this role, although I don't know if we'd ever get a movie like this in the Marvel universe. This guy isn't John Wick and the gun control arguments may even mean less of this fan favorite character. What is this character nicknamed?

Question 24

He can get really small...or big

That sounds so dirty, which is is why we used the picture of him in the bathtub. I'm grinning ear to ear and you probably are too. I just try to make things fairly funny, you know? Anyway, this guy's second movie is due in a couple of months, which would explain why he's not in Infinity War and will most likely set him up to appear in Avengers 4. You should know this, so good luck and get it right!

Question 25

An android with an Infinity Gem

This will be another easy one, especially if you saw Infinity War and watched the entire group debate what to do with the Infinity Gem that was in his head. You an even kind of see it in that picture. It's at the end of the silver thing. Was anyone else slightly surprised by the idea that this android can turn himself into looking like a human and it's implied he can also take advantage of certain body parts? I wasn't expecting that.

Question 26

One of the sadder Avengers

We don't mean sad as another way of saying pathetic or anything like that. We mean sad as in her backstory. She lost her parents in an attack that used Tony Stark's technology, then was experimented on by HYDRA. Her brother was killed in Age of Ultron and she joined The Avengers, where she caused innocent people to die and then had to go on the run. Now, she just lost her lover. What a tragic couple of years. Who is this?

Question 27

Gamora's sister in some form

Am I the only one confused on the terminology to say how Gamora and this woman are sisters? Would it be adopted sister? Is it half-sister? There's a ton of people who seem to be confused as well, though we at least know they're not related by blood. If you know the correct and true answer, let us - and any other fans who are confused, which as I said seems to be a good amount - know. Who is this half-robot woman?

Question 28

The heir to the Rand fortune

The last of the Netflix heroes, this young man was originally the heir to the famous Rand fortune before being presumed killed in an airplane accident. What actually happened was that his parents died, but he was saved and brought in by an ancient cult to be trained the ways of the...no, we're not giving his codename away here. Even if you were among the many that didn't think this show was great (I enjoyed it), you should know who this is.

Question 29

She's the last of the....

We've exhausted all of the confirmed alive or dead superheroes, so why not tackle one that we're not sure about. Spoiler: ____ is not in Infinity War, though the creators have said that she's alive and survived Thanos' assault on the Asgardians. The same one that we see in the trailers and therefore isn't a spoiler. So yes, we're probably going to see her in Avengers 4, flirting with Thor and/or Bruce Banner. What is this Asgardian's name and affiliation?

Question 30

The next superhero to be introduced

We did say that only one of these questions and would have two options, so here you go. This is the next superheo that will get her own movie in the MCU after Ant-Man and The Wasp. While we would've used The Wasp here, Infinity War did hint that this hero is on her way, though she's had two names in the past: Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel. Which is going to be used in the MCU? You have a 50 percent chance of getting it right!
