Each of the players on this quiz have won at least one of these awards. Do you know which players are which?

Question 1

Who is this NHL Award winner?

Nothing that’s written here should help you answer this question, because this is the most famous, and the best hockey player to ever lace up the skates. He won nine Hart Trophies and five Lester Pearson Awards for MVP of the regular season, two Conn Smythe Trophies for MVP of the playoffs, ten Art Ross Trophies for leading the league in points, five Lady Byng Trophies for sportsmanship, the Charlie Conacher Humanitarian Award, and four Stanley Cups. He has tons of other awards too, these are just the ones recognized by the NHL.

Question 2

Who is this NHL Award winner?

This is one of the most decorated hockey players of the current era. The three trophies he’s pictured with here are the Ted Lindsay Award for the best player in the regular season voted by the NHL Players’ Association, the Hart Trophy for most valuable player voted by the Pro Hockey Writers’ Association, and the Art Ross Trophy which is given to the player who leads the league in points during the regular season. He won the trio of awards in 2014, but has won each multiple times. Who is it?

Question 3

Who is this NHL Award winner?

This player dominated the trophy given out to the league’s best defenceman in the 2000s. In the ten seasons played between 2000 and 2011, this player took home the James Norris Memorial Trophy an incredible seven times. Those seven Norris wins puts him tied second all-time with the Montreal Canadiens’ Doug Harvey, who won seven times between 1954 and 1962. The only player with eight is the answer to the next question. Do you know who this Hall of Fame defenceman is?

Question 4

Who is this NHL Award winner?

As mentioned in the question prior, this is the most decorated defenceman in the history of the National Hockey League. Possibly the most incredible part of his eight Norris Trophy wins is that he did it in eight straight seasons, which accounts for every season where he played in at least 30 games, aside from his rookie year. If it weren’t for his knee injury, or if he played in a time like now where that injury wouldn’t be career-threatening, there’s really no telling how big of a trophy cabinet he would need to fit all of his awards.

Question 5

Who is this NHL Award winner?

As one of the most prolific goal scorers of the 21st century, it is no surprise that this player has found his name on many of the NHL’s awards over his career. He’s a seven-time Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner for being the regular season’s top goal scorer, three-time Hart Trophy winner, three-time Lester Pearson/Ted Lindsay Award winner, Art Ross Trophy winner in 2008, Calder Trophy winner for rookie of the year, and although it’s not an official NHL award, he’s also won the Kharlamov Trophy for the NHL’s Top Russian Player. Who is this?

This diminutive winger has won many awards during his career in the National Hockey League, but he’s only won one of them more than once. As for individual awards, he is a one-time winner of the Calder Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP of the playoffs, Art Ross Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, and the Hart Trophy. That said, his career isn’t over just yet, so there’s hope he be a repeat winner of one of these awards.

Question 7

Who is this NHL Award winner?

It’s not uncommon for the number one overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft to win the Calder Memorial Trophy the following year, but this player did it in a pretty spectacular way. He became the first rookie since Alex Ovechkin netted 52 pucks in 2005-06. More important than the goals he scored was the team success. As the Toronto Maple Leafs’ first line centre, he led the team to a playoff berth that year for just the second time in the past 12 seasons. Do you know who this is?

Question 8

Who is this NHL Award winner?

This player has gotten his fair share of individual awards, but hasn’t lifted the trophy he’s sought after the most. Despite being a five-time Vezina nominee, a Hart Trophy nominee, and probably the best goaltender of his era, he hasn’t been able to take his team through the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup. He also probably hasn’t won as many individual awards as he should have, taking home the Vezina just once in 2012. Do you know who this is?

Question 9

Who is this NHL Award winner?

This player hasn’t won any of the more glamorous awards, such as a most valuable player, or top goal scorer, but he’s won awards that make him a highly respected hockey player and person. He’s been one of the league’s best defensive forwards throughout his career, and has been rewarded for doing the team’s dirty work with five Frank J. Selke Trophies. Those weren’t the only trophies he’d claim during his career. He won four Stanley Cups, six Art Ross Trophies, and six Hart Memorial Trophies. He also led the league in goal scoring five times, all of which were prior to the NHL dedicating a trophy to that feat. Who is this?

Question 11

Who is this NHL Award winner?

Do you know who this player is?

This player already has two Norris Trophies to his name, and he’s only just entering his prime. He’s in an interesting position right now, as he’s had a few public disputes with his team, the Ottawa Senators, over how much money he’s making. As he is likely one of the top ten players in the league, he would garner much more in the free market than the $7million he is currently making per year. Leaving the team would also probably give him a better chance to win the Stanley Cup, which I’m sure he values more than any individual honour.

Who is this NHL Award winner?

This player also won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy twice during his career, but he won many others as well. He scored more goals than anyone else in the 2001-02 season with 52, and was subsequently named the winner of the Richard, Art Ross, and Lester Pearson. In 2003-04, he won the Richard with just 41 goals, and also took home the King Clancy, and Foundation Awards for his charity work. He began donating money to KidSport in 2000 for every goal he scored, among other charities that he supports. Do you know who this hockey player/humanitarian is?

This is definitely the least famous of any award winner in this quiz so far, as he’s still a very young player in the NHL. The only award he’s won is the one he’s holding in the picture, the Calder Memorial Trophy from 2013. Although he was drafted in 2013, the player spent another year in the QMJHL before making his NHL debut. In that season, this player scored 31 points in 48 games, and with stats like that, it’s hard to believe no rookie had a better year. Can you name this player?

No other coach in the history of hockey has won more Coach of the Year honours than this man (pictured left), who took home the Jack Adams Trophy in 1989, 1993, and 1998. Yes, no coach in NHL history has won more than three Jack Adams Trophies. Question 34

Who is this NHL Award winner?

This is the second person on this list that won a General Manager of the Year Award, and the only one who has never won anything else. This man was named GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2014, after spending his previous years with the Carolina Hurricanes organization. While the Penguins’ best players were already under contract when he got there, he was still able to successfully bring in players that played a big role in the two Stanley Cups they’ve won since then, all while balancing the salary cap. Do you know who this is?

Question 35

Who is this NHL Award winner?

This player is pictured with a much smaller version of the trophy that he won, the 2017 Lady Byng Memorial. This award I’m sure makes up for his disappointment in not winning the Calder Trophy in 2014, where he scored 24 goals and 64 points in his rookie season, losing out to defenceman Aaron Ekblad. The Calder snub may sting more than others, because it’s the only trophy that you only have one opportunity to win. If this player continues to play stellar offensive hockey and not take penalties, he could win many more Lady Byngs before he retires.
