Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or in a doomsday bunker, or even floating through space, you’ve probably heard of The CW’s “The 100.” Set two hundred years after the Earth was up in flames and radiation due to an insane nuclear war, this post-apocalyptic sci-fi series follows one hundred chosen criminals, all under the age of eighteen, as they are sent down from space back to earth to discover if earth is yet inhabitable.
It’s a little bit of “Lost” meets a little bit of “Lord of the Flies” as these teens explore what’s left of the planet in in an effort to survive. And just what do these underage criminals do when they survive the bumpy landing? Enjoy the freedom.
Of course, it’s not a total free for all. The Earth was survived by various clans, such as Mountain Men and Grounders, who aren’t exactly thrilled with the arrival of the “Sky People.” With four successful seasons already under the show’s belt and a fifth to come, it’s been one wild ride for everyone back on Earth and up in space. Treaties are formed, bonds are broken, and difficult decisions are made all in the name of survival. With no rules on Earth like there have been on The Ark, the Sky People must choose to either live with the Grounders or prepare to fight.
Who hasn't Clarke dated in the series?
It wouldn’t be a post-apocalyptic teen drama without some post-apocalyptic teen romance. Between the love triangles, secret affairs, and tragic demise – this series isn’t leaving any romantic stone unturned, and for one of the main characters, Clarke Griffin, she doesn’t have a problem finding love until the love becomes the problem. And what could be the problem, you ask? On a radiation-filled planet full of different clans trying to kill each other to survive there are bound to be a few hurdles, but Clarke always found a way to keep the fiery romantic passion burning as hot as "Prim Fiyah."

With great power comes great responsibility, so for the Chancellor of Ark Station no crime can go without consequence. The quarters are tight, supplies are limited, and there is no room for delinquency on board the ship. With the exception of minors under the age of eighteen, any crime committed, no matter how minor it may seem, is punishable the same as an even more serious offence. Grounders have spent their time on Earth developing many different skills to survive. Most have them have become very successful hunter-gatherers, leaders, fighters, and more. For Lincoln, although he has many of these typical Grounder skills, also has a brilliant ability to draw. He creates detailed maps for survival, sketches his surroundings and landmarks, and keeps notes to remember certain poisons, remedies, and antidotes. When the 100 make their way to Earth it's obvious that the Grounders would take a cautious interest to discover who they really are. You would think the members of Mount Weather, such as Maya, would go crazy living in a bunker that did not have any windows. This comes with seriously good intentions as any contact with the outside causes them to react severely to the radioactivity that still lingers on Earth. They do have a creative solution, however, as a previous effort to preserve the history of what life was like on Earth before the nuclear war, the people of Mount Weather saved thousands of famous paintings, displayed throughout the facilities and stores in a huge warehouse. Which one of these clans do not exist?
The planet Earth was made up of twelve different clans, thirteen when you include the Ark, known as Skikru in reference to other grounders calling them "sky people." As far as the original twelve clans go, they come from all different parts of the planet, all with their Commander wanting to reign supreme over the other clans. Often only coming together to battle, either with each other or all against Skikru, it can be a bit difficult to keep track. Which one of these clans do not exist?
How many of the original 100 survived the initial landing on Earth?
What goes up must go down. After over two hundred years in space, the 100 are sent to Earth. Partly in an effort to conserve oxygen and partly to discover if Earth is at all inhabitable. Luckily for the 100, living in space meant living in a space susceptible to high levels of radioactivity, which means whatever radioactivity levels are still on Earth leave them unaffected. If it's not easy being twelve years old in confinement on a ship floating through space, then it must feel impossible being twelve years old being sent to explore a possibly deadly radioactive Earth. For Charlotte, these aren't the only hardships she faces. Her parents were executed by flotation on the Ark and she was sentenced to the Skybox for assaulting a guard. Chancellor Jaha, Wells' father, was the one who sentenced her parents to death, and she often faces nightmares on Earth being so close to Wells she ends up killing him, but it wasn't necessarily her idea. Where did Octavia spend most of her life hiding?
In order to maintain a sense of order in space, Ark Station developed a strict set of rules, policies, and procedures. One of these rules included that each household family may only have on child. This rule was easy to abide by when Bellamy was born, but when his mother gave birth to Octavia, they were suddenly committing a criminal offence. From the moment she was born, in order to protect their family and avoid punishment from the Ark's Chancellor, they had to hide Octavia from everyone in order to live a normal life. Why is Emori considered a stain in her family's bloodline?
Emori is a Grounder, meaning her genetics have allowed her to survive the radioactivity on Earth. She is, however, a Nomadic Grounder, travelling from place to place and is not attached to any clan specifically. She traps, then befriends John Murphy while travelling to the promise land, and uses her quick thinking to survive enemy attacks. Some Grounders choose to become Nomad's on their own, but in Emori's case, her family cast her out considering her a stain in the bloodline. Why is Emori considered a stain in her family's bloodline?

Luna is one of the last remaining original Nightbloods - a hereditary trait defined by dark blood. This trait allows Luna to be considered as the official Commander because of her natural compatibility with the sacred Flame. She spends most of her life running from this responsibility as being a Commander is a title she does not want to own. Everyone knows about Luna and her history as her back history as a Nightblood is almost legendary, but which clan does Luna actually belong to?
How does Niylah get by?
While Clarke is living in exile for her own safety, there aren't many people she can trust. She meets Niylah who helps Clarke survive by providing her with friendship and shelter, eventually even developing a romantic relationship. A saving grace when the Ice Nation bounty hunters come searching for Clarke, Niylah lies in an effort to protect her, acting as a traitor to her own clan in the process and risking her own life. Grounders have developed many sacred rituals on Earth. Life, death, and everything in between are extremely important for Grounders, as they are natural born survivors. They fight only in an effort to save and protect their people and often greatly respect notable sacrifices and fallen warriors. They have also developed a special language, allowing them to speak privately in front of anyone who does not understand their native tongue. Who has not been a Commander of the Trikru clan?
The Trikru clan is not one to be messed with. They feature a fierce group of hunters and warriors. And with a clan so strong it can only be led by an even stronger leader. Commanders are something that the Trikru do not take lightly. With an entire clan willing to die for you, being a leader does have some perks, but it leaves a lot of risk and negative attention from other clans. Raven is known for being a mechanical genius on the Ark. She is responsible for fixing any mechanical problems and even secretly helps Abby build a drop ship to return to Earth. She uses this ship to land on Earth, but her welcome isn't exactly warm. How does one enter the City of Light?
What could be possibly be crazier than trying to survive on a post-apocalyptic planet Earth? Trying to escape the planet and enter the City of Light. The City of Light is a simulated "safe haven" originally thought to be accessed by crossing a desert, but of course it's not that simple. Designed by A.L.I.E, the world removes any memory of hate, suffering, or trauma, completely wiping the mind clean and leaving only positive feelings and thoughts. It also eliminates the ability to feel pain. This would be totally great, if only the cult like following it created were just as positive. How does one enter the City of Light?
What creature do Clarke and Lexa end up running from?
Nothing builds a bond faster than running for your life from a giant mutant creature. One of the perks of inhabiting the Earth full of radioactivity is all of the genetic mutations affecting the wild life. Grounders like Lexa are fairly used to the terrifying animals roaming what is left of the planet, but this one catches Clarke totally off guard and leaves both of them running for their lives, only to run straight into the feeding pit. What creature do Clarke and Lexa end up running from?
What is the first animal the 100 see when they arrive on Earth?
With limited oxygen, supplies, and shelter on the Ark, animals are definitely not an option. Despite the irony, the Ark is for humans only, and animals only exist in books and stories of memories. You can imagine the excitement for the 100 when they arrive on Earth and discover that animals still exist. You can also imagine the horror when they discover that the radiation has left animals with disfigurements and other terrifying symptoms, such as two heads. Keeping track of teenagers is never an easy task, keeping track of criminal teenagers who have been sent to a post-apocalyptic planet is practically impossible. Because the 100 are sent on a mission, it is imperative that the people of the Ark keep track of them, especially if they want to find out if Earth is habitable for humans. With her own daughter sent to Earth, Abby is driven by maternal instinct to find out if the 100 are alive. How does Abby track the survival of the 100 sent to Earth?

Clarke attempts to do the right thing all the time. To save her people she must kill other clans, and to save clans she must sacrifice her people. It's a losing battle and it has left her unpopular with many clans - including her own. Mount Weather uses some pretty barbaric tactics to survive. Turning Grounders into Reapers using an intense and highly addictive drug, killing Grounders to use their blood for healing, or even trying to kill the 100 for their bone marrow through the Harvest Project - nobody really likes the Mountain Men anymore. The 100 are determined to survive and save the rest of the Sky People and Grounders in the process. Working together to bring Mount Weather down, the 100 stop at nothing. Clarke's father is responsible for discovering the flaw in the oxygen system on the Ark. In an effort to warn the people, he broadcasts a live message across the ship, ultimately leading to both his arrest and untimely demise. Clarke is wise not to trust anyone right away. After all, at the end of the day everyone will do whatever it is to protect their own clan. Finn and Clarke had possibly one of the cutest relationships on Earth, literally. Often referring to her as "princess," the pair would often seclude themselves in an effort to preserve their sanity in a world full of chaos.
