How Many Star Wars: Battlefront Maps Can You Name?

In just a few short months, the new Star Wars: Battlefront series will return with a sequel that promises improvements over the 2015 product. Sure, I guess.

Look, we enjoyed parts of DICE's Battlefront, but it doesn't hold anything up to the original games released in 2004 and 2005. No Galactic Conquest? No ground-to-air combat? Hell, we even missed some of the prequel maps if only because those battles were more interesting than the movies!

Because we're nostalgic, we're inviting you to talk about the old Battlefront games with us and today, we'll be looking at maps from both the original Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefront II. In other words, maps exclusive to the 2015 Battlefront - Sullust, Jakku, etc - will not be on this list; in addition, maps that were in both the original and the remake like Hoth and Cloud City will only have their original form here.

Sounds easy, right? Well, we're adding a twist: you'll have to tell us exactly what the map was named in-game because, come on, showing a picture of the AT-ATs on Hoth and telling you to name the map would be too easy if the answer included Hoth. Is the answer Rebel Base? What about Echo Base? Could it even be the original Walker Assault? That's what you'll need to tell us.

Charge up your weapons, get your boots on the ground, and aim down the sights at meatbags because we're headed back to the original Battlefront games.

Question 1

Name this map

If you can't get this one right, this may not be the quiz for you. Possibly the most iconic battle in the Star Wars series, Hoth is one of the many maps available in both games - and, given the presence of the AT-AT, it may be the most fun. Load up either of the original games as the Empire, jump into the Walker, and eliminate everyone from above. When Battlefront was first introduced in 2004, THIS is the map we thought of. What is the Hoth's map's name?

Question 2

Name this map

From maybe the most iconic battle in Star Wars to maybe the most 'meh' of ones that actually mattered on screen (no one cares about the ones from Episode III that existed only to show the Jedi dying), here we have Naboo. Luckily, the developers for the first Battlefront game - which this map is exclusive to - knew how to make this map work: have the Clone Wars' campaign first mission be killing Gungans. Yes, please. What is the correct name for this map?

Question 3

Name this map

Our first of many prequel maps exclusive to both games, here we have the exterior of Queen Armadillo - excuse me, Amidala...fine, Amidala's palace. One of the few true 'city' maps in either game, players can use a variety of vehicles to take out the opposition while also sniping from balconies. Or, if you have Battlefront 2, take charge with Darth Maul and slice through all of the Clone Army using acrobatics and advanced choreography. Hooray for Ray Park! What's this map named?

Question 4

Name this map

Speaking of Queen Armadillo, this, Polis Massa, is where she died in Revenge of the Sith because she lost the will to live. As the Robot Chicken special put it best regarding her death, "What is your degree in, poetry?! You sorry bunch of hippies!" Assault and engineer classes will love the closed comforts of this map, providing a perfect environment for mines, shotguns, and splash damage from rocket launchers. And, as it was explained in the campaign, this was where the Rebels were keeping the Death Star plans for a time. We like that more than Rogue One. Which map is this?

Question 5

Name this map

How did Queen Armadillo die, you ask? Well, her getting Force Choked by her wannabe Sith Lord of a husband didn't help, so let's travel back to his home planet of Tatooine. The first mission in the original Battlefront's Galactic Civil War campaign, players will also have to deal with the vile Tusken Raiders (though, thankfully, those dirty, scavenging Jawas were restricted to a different map) and the monstrous Sarlacc pit. If you really want to have fun here, take a ship up to a high rock formation and snipe soldiers below. What map is this?

Question 6

Name this map

Another of those maps you shouldn't get wrong, this is one of the franchise's most iconic locations despite a real battle never happening here. Come on, you can hear the Cantina Band song playing in your head right now. With the ability to go prone as a sniper present in the first game, this was a great map for headshots; and, those on the Republic or Imperial side who had Jet/Dark Troopers with their jumpacks definitely had fun here. Which map is this?

Question 7

Name this map

The final of our Tatooine maps, you should have no problems answering this if you've seen the movies. And, even if you haven't seen a movie not named Rogue One, you have to at least know about the Rancor. Introduced in the first game by way of patch, this level is full of tunnels, traps, and a dangerous Rancor that cannot be killed. Not even Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber can cut through his flesh. Please, for the love of all things Force, get this right.

Question 8

Name this map

Earlier, I suggested players that enjoy close combat areas would love Polis Massa. The same goes here for this ship level, which is actually a map playable in both eras despite it originating in the Original Trilogy. Though there are several different areas players can battle in, the majority of the mission will likely take place in the explosion-filled hallways. Oh, and if you use the Separatists on this map, you get to use General Grievance - strike that, Grievous - and his four lightsabers. Fun! What ship is this?

Question 9

Name this map

When discussing the Naboo: Plains map, I mentioned some of the battles shoehorned into Revenge of the Sith so we could see Order 66's impact. Mygeeto, where Jedi General Ki-Adi Mundi (the guy with the cone head) is shot down by his troops. Battlefront II's campaign adds some more backstory to that battle, including the mission objective of the Clones stealing a power source that would eventually go to the Death Star. Congrats, you're responsible for destroying Alderaan. What was this map's name?

Question 10

Name this map

If you hadn't played the 2002 Clone Wars game prior to the original Battlefront's release in 2004, you likely asked yourself what Rhen Var was. Think of the planet as a more interesting version of Hoth; beneath the snow and ice, as we can see here, there are remnants of an old civilization and ties to the Force. I won't spoil what happens in that Clone Wars game, but I will say that this Rhen Var map is fun. What's the map's name?

Question 11

Name this map

No, this is not a second Hoth map, though we wouldn't blame you for thinking that. Rhen Var, like many of the original Battlefront planets, actually has two unique maps; this is also the only other map in the game which features the AT-AT as a means of transportation and weaponry. Hell. Yes. If you play as the Republic in the Clone Wars, you get the AT-TE, but we love ourselves the AT-AT and shooting enemies coming through the ice tunnel. Which map is this?

Question 12

Name this map

Speaking of the Clone Wars, we may as well start with the battle that started it all, right? Taking place on the desert planet of Geonosis, this is a map that features everything from ideal sniping spots to all-out vehicular warfare with Republic gunships, Spider Walkers, and the almighty AT-TE. Though Geonosis is in both games, we're talking about the map seen in the original Battlefront, the one that came with a non-playable Mace Windu. What was that map called?

Question 13

Name this map

Another Clone Wars-only map, this rainy planet serves as a cloning facility for the Republic - and, in Galactic Conquest, the Republic's main base. Take this planet over and you win! Though some of the action will take place inside, the various platforms and ramps make this an ideal map for snipers and assault troopers alike; close-combat specialists, even the best, may want to stay away, especially with how wide open the interior gets. What is the Kamino map officially titled?

Question 14

Name this map

When we discussed the Tantive IV earlier, I mentioned how ideal a map it is for those wanting to play with General Grievance - I mean, Grievous. Here, Grievous is joined by other evil villains, including Commander Nefarious, Captain I'm A Bad Guy, and Admiral Bone-To Pick. We don't talk about them because they're not important. Taking place on the unique sinkhole planet of Utapau, one can also use the Force Push with Jedi Hero Obi-Wan Kenobi to push droids off the level. That's fun. What was this map named?

Question 15

Name this map

Back to the Original Trilogy we go as we now arrive on Bespin, home of Cloud City and the Carbon Freezing Chamber. As we got to see in The Empire Strikes Back, this is also the home of torture porn, especially when Darth Vader is the one conducting it. Fun. Both the Carbon Freezing Chamber and where Luke Skywalker concluded his battle with Vader are featured on this level, though no such battle is possible. What was this Bespin map titled?

Question 16

Name this map

The second of two Bespin maps, this is a fan-favorite map in the original game because it's the only one with true air combat. Yes, other maps like the Dune Sea and Geonosis include X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter or Republic ship vs. Droid Ship, but they're mostly in relatively contained spaces. This map, which also is a heaven for snipers, has the most ships of any lone level and introduced a 'tunnel of death' four years before Grand Theft Auto IV. What's this map's name?

Question 17

Name this map

In the words of RedLetterMedia, we return to Yavin IV. Remember the Rebel Base?? Well, we're not at that point yet, but we are on the outskirts of the base in what appears to be the ruins of an ancient Yavin maze or something. We're not quite sure what the premise is, but the stormy weather and aforementioned maze element make this a really fun map. Is the other Yavin IV map more fun? We may have said yes in the past, but it's a tougher question now. What's this map's name?

Question 18

Name this map

In the words of RedLetterMedia, we return to Yavin IV. Remember the Rebel Base?? Oh good, we can now make that joke as this is indeed the spot where the Rebel leaders acted from during the Death Star's destruction. Surprisingly, air combat isn't available in either of these games - though, the trees and jungle-like format may contribute as to why that's the case - but we still had plenty of fun taking down the Empire. What map is this?

Question 19

Name this map

Speaking of air combat, we did decide to include a space level - and no, the answer is not simply 'space'. This and question 20 are pretty much free spaces, especially given that this is a map from what people consider one of the best prequel battles. Really? Did people enjoy it that much despite all of the CGI and lack of story? At least Battlefront II's combat makes up for it, though the space battles can get repetitive. What is that planet below?

Question 20

Name this map

Yes, this one is a freebie as well, but come on. You and I both know what Jedi building this is, though the lack of a Jedi vs. Clones free mode in Battlefront II was a major disappointment. Granted, the Revenge of the Sith game did allow fans to control Anakin Skywalker during Order 66, but why not allow us to do it with clones as a hunt mode. Could the clones have won without Anakin? What destroyed building is this?

Question 21

Name this map

Though Kashyyyk is not an in-game planet in Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, bounty hunter and possible partner Mira describes it best: a planet with a lot of K's and Y's. At least in the Battlefront games, we can forget about this disaster of a name to focus on this map from the original Battlefront game (and re-done with some differing pieces in the sequel). Keep that part in parenthesis in mind when answering this question.

Question 22

Name this map

Dagobah, this is, and Yoda's home. Horrific, the smell is, but remains covered by the TV, it does. Speak like prequel Yoda, we will not because original trilogy Yoda does not look like a CGI piece of garbage. Dagobah, great for mines under the water, it is, though they may be visible to the skilled eye. And yes, a playable character, Yoda is, on the Republic and Imperial sides. The name of this map, can you tell us, good quiztaker?

Question 23

Name this map

We're in the home stretch and the final three maps, so those hovering close to the 50 percent mark will want to pay attention. Like the Tantive IV, this original trilogy location - but playable in both the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War eras - gets much more of a spotlight in Battlefront II; unlike the ship, though, this map is great for snipers and close-combat specialists, especially in the prison block. What was this fan-favorite map named?

Question 24

Name this map

Another of the 'we only saw this in the Order 66 montage but we felt it needed to be expanded upon in Battlefront II maps', Felucia is less dangerous in non-campaign modes than it is in the campaign. Why is that, you ask? Well, you don't have to deal with the dangerous Ackley, the monster Obi-Wan fought in Episode II. Another great sniping map with the trees, the Republic gets assistance from Aayla Secura - or, as she was known on message forums, Jedi Master Hotness.

Question 25

Name this map

Our final map on this list and the sight of what many Star Wars fans believe to be the greatest lightsaber duel we've had yet (it's not even in my top three - I still prefer, in order, Death Star II, Cloud City, and Kylo vs. Finn and Rey), players should be thankful they don't have to feel Mustafar's heat. The lava will kill, however, and bridges protecting soldiers can be destroyed, so be careful and keep engineers around. What map is this?
