Fire-type Pokémon have been prevalent since the first games in the series. At the start of every game (except for Pokémon Yellow) you are given the choice of three starter Pokémon. One of these is always a Fire-type Pokémon. In Pokémon Red Blue, choosing the Fire-type starter was the same as selecting the hard mode in most video games. This is because the Pokémon Gyms were designed in such a way as to give the Fire-types a hard time. Pokémon Gold Silver switched this around and made choosing the Fire-type the easy option.

The Fire-type Pokémon have had a hard time in the past few years. This is because they face dangers like Stealth Rock and Greninja on the competitive scene. Fire-type Pokémon now have more opposition than ever. It takes a truly skilled Pokémon trainer to utilize the power of these mighty beasts and claim victory for themselves.

There have been many different beasts among the Fire-type Pokémon over the years. This is because they are popular among the fans. There have been Fire-type dragons, lizards, ghosts, birds, foxes, turtles, pigs, furniture, dogs, cats, insects, snails, horses, anteaters, dolls, lions, camels, monkeys, honey badgers, and chickens. It seems that Game Freak are fond of taking a photo of an animal, drawing flames on it, and calling it a day.

The design of this Pokémon was based upon mixing a camel with a volcano. It has a crater filled with magma on its back, which it needs to fill from time to time. According to the Pokémon Sapphire Pokédex, this Pokémon has a body temperature of around 18,000 degrees. This is almost double the temperature of the surface of the sun. It is based on the real life Daruma doll, which are hollow wooden figurines that are made to look like Bodhidharma, who was the founder of the Zen sect of Buddhism. It always maintains an Electric-type, but it can change its other type by equipping an item. If you give this Pokémon a microwave, then it will become an Electric/Fire-type Pokémon.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were released after Pokémon X & Y introduced Mega Evolutions to the series. This means that a lot of Hoenn Pokémon received Mega forms, where they normally wouldn't have. Pokémon like Rayquaza and final forms of the Grass-type and Water-type starter Pokémon all received Mega Evolutions in this game.
