The player in question reached this milestone, at 18 years 11 months of age, with their team in the 1981-82 season. This is no small feat. Imagine being only 18-years-old and making that sort of record. Not even Sidney Crosby seemed to be able to make that record and he's one of the top players in the League and was one of the youngest to do as well as he did...of course, no one had as good a debut as Auston Matthews.

There are pretty clear reasons as to why you haven't heard of these teams since then, but we will always have the original six still in the game.

Sure, the Stanley Cup was first awarded in 1893 but there wasn't a National Hockey League at that point. There were many leagues that vied for control and power and they often faced each other and tried to drive the other one out of business. Plenty of mergers happened and many leagues folded also along with many teams. The Original Six refers to the six teams that started the official NHL and played from the 1942-43 season until the expansion in '67.

In 1968-69 the player in question became the first player to score 100 points he scored a total of 126 points in 74 games! That is a ridiculous number of points to get in one season. From 1968 onwards, there have only been 109 total players to achieve this feat. Considering how many players there are in the NHL and how many new players are added every year, only 109 in 50 years should show just how difficult it is to achieve such an amazing record. And this player nailed 126!

Why have octopi been thrown on NHL ice?

During the 1995 playoffs, Bob Dubisky and Larry Shotwell, co-workers at a meat and seafood retail company near Detroit, tossed a 38-pound octopus onto the ice during the National Anthem prior to Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The year after, the duo struck again with a 50-pounder in the Conference Finals. Although the feat received no air time on the nationally broadcast game, the octopus was proudly displayed on the hood of the Zamboni between periods. Those are pretty big octopi!

This amazing player was the first NHL player to score fifty goals in one season. He reached the 50 goal mark in 50 games in the 1944-45 season. That means that this guy was so good that, even if his team lost any of those 50 games in a row, he still managed to score a single goal. This guy is probably one of the greatest NHL players not just only of his day but of all time as well.

This particular player on New Year's Eve in 1988 against the New Jersey Devils, managed to score five goals. That means that not only did he get a hat trick but he also managed to score goals on top of that. And to make things even better...he managed to score a regular, full-strength goal, a power play goal, a short-handed goal, a penalty shot goal, and a final open net goal at the end of the game. That's got to add some insult to injury!

Who was the first woman to play for the NHL?

On Wednesday, September 23rd, 1992, this woman made sports history by being the first woman to play in one of the four major sports leagues in the United States. She goaltended for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League in a pre-season game against the St. Louis Blues. Oh, and it might be worth mentioning here as well that she is the only woman to have ever played an NHL game...and likely will be the last as well.

Theodore played major junior in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he won a President's Cup as QMJHL champions and competed in the Memorial Cup with the Hull Olympiques in 1995. He won both the Ford Cup as the top defensive player and Guy Lafleur Trophy as playoff MVP in 1995 and is a two-time QMJHL Second Team All-Star. Drafted 44th overall by the Canadiens in 1994, Theodore played eight seasons in Montreal, where he won the Vezina and Hart trophies, both in 2002.

In addition to that, the markings for the crease and the specific regulation lines are all painted within the layers of the ice, so without proper layering and the correct number of layers, this paint could vanish mid-game.

The specific game was a 2-2 tie in the second last game of the 98-99 season.

Where does the Canadiens' nickname 'The Habs' come from?

In 1924, Madison Square Garden owner Tex Rickard was told by someone that the "H" stood for a French word that in those days was used to denote the farmers of Quebec. Rickard was told that the French players on the team came from the farms and that they were therefore "habs". At the time, the Canadiens were recognized as the French team of Montreal as opposed to the Montreal Maroons, the English team. On a side note, the Montreal logo of the C wrapped around the H stands for Club de Hockey Canadien.

In May 2015, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder announced that a new international bridge spanning the Detroit River would be named in honour of this great player. The International Bridge carrying this player's name is set to open in 2020. On June 27, 2016, it was announced that a bridge in his hometown would be named after him as well. He was awarded the Order of Canada by the Governor General of Canada, Queen Elizabeth II's representative in the country.

During the 2017-18 season, this guy bested his career-high in wins, with his 36th win of the season in a game against the Florida Panthers. In the following game on 30 March 2018, against the New York Islanders he recorded his 37th win of the season, tying the record for most wins by a Leafs goalie. This amazing goalie recorded 22 shutouts in 1928-29. They played just 44 games back then. He is still the only goalie to ever break 20 shutouts in a season. The next four down the list have only ever hit as high as 15 and the next down from those goalies sits at 14 and it's the same goalie who set the record at 22! The only two goalies in the top 25 of the shutout list who are not Canadian goalies are Dominik Hasek and Henrik Lundqvist.

Internationally, this guy has represented Canada at various tournaments at junior levels, winning silver medals at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2004 and the IIHF World U18 Championship in 2005. He won a gold medal at the 2007 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Sweden. In 2014, he was named to the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team and won a gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. his play also earned him the tournament's top goaltending award, from the IIHF directorate. In 2016 he went undefeated to win his first World Cup Of Hockey championship. He is widely considered as one of the best goaltenders in the world.

Who was the first goalie to wear a mask?

This guy was the first goalie to ever wear a mask, after a shot by Howie Mornez knocked him unconscious back in 1927. The mask was made out of leather, but when wearing it he could not see low shots, so it didn't last. It wasn't until November 1, 1959, when a goalie of the Montreal Canadiens became the second goalie to put on a mask. He had been using his self made creations during practice but knew it wasn't an accepted idea to use one in a real game. However, when Andy Bathgate's shot clipped him in the head, the goalie refused to go back on the ice without a mask. After a long fight Toe Blake, the Canadiens' coach, let him wear it and the rest is history.

Considering he was the first American-born player, he managed a pretty decent career, spanning all of those teams to end up playing for one of the Original Six. That's a tough gig to manage playing for one of those teams. At least back then. Having only so many positions to cover with only six teams.

This player had one of the greatest NHL debuts ever! What is really sad about this game is that while he did manage to score four goals in the game, his team still lost the bloody game! That must have been very frustrating for him but considering he was only an 18-year-old player and he managed to break an NHL record in his very first NHL game ever, I think he was probably more happy than not. And I'm sure his team felt great about the record as well. They go on to play the Bruins this Thursday in the playoffs!

You can end up with a ton of penalty minutes in one game, but for this specific action, there is a limit for this player.
