Back in 1989, cartoonist Matt Groening debuted The Simpsons on Fox after two years of creating short sketches of the Simpsons family for the Tracey Ullman show. Despite the rough sketches, the shorts became a hit, and in 1989 Groening and James L Brooks debuted the Simpsons family for American audiences on cable TV. Over the next 29 years, the show has continued to see great success, officially becoming the longest-running American sitcom several years ago. In addition, in 2016 the show reached another milestone as they signed a new contract extending the show to its 30th season, which will be debuting in September of this year. The season will see Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Harry Shearer, Yeardley Smith, and Julie Kavner all reprise their iconic roles for the thirtieth season as the voice of not only the Simpsons family but also countless other Springfield citizens.
Throughout the years, America's favorite animated family has taken viewers on countless adventures with them as Homer and Marge attempt to keep up with their three kids. That, of course, has led to countless adventures around the world, which included The Simpsons Movie in 2007. Ahead of the release of the thirtieth season, we're taking a look back at 35 places the Simpsons have visited over the years. While some may be easier to remember, others will separate the true Springfield residents from casual fans.

Season 12, Episode 17
In Season 12, Episode 17, titled 'Simpson Safari', the family winds up digging through their attic after all the bag boys at Springfield grocery stores go on strike. Upon digging through their attic, the family discovers an old box of Animal Crackers from a promotion many years before that results in the family winning a vacation. Season 15, Episode 21
This episode begins with Bart escaping from Dr. Hibbert's office moments before getting a shot in his arm. This results in Bart leading Dr. Hibbert on a lengthy chase in order to give him his shot. After receiving the shot, Bart has a reaction which causes his ear to swell, resulting in him temporarily losing the ability to hear. This leads to a mishap at the Springfield Elementary School donkey basketball game, and newspapers running with a story of Bart mooning the American flag. After Marge goes on a talk-show in order to clear her son's name, Lisa then gives a speech on patriotism, leading to the family being arrested for violating the "Government Knows Best Act." Season 15, Episode 4
In this episode, the family goes on vacation, despite Lisa's plea for them not to due to Homer's tendency to ruin family vacations. As expected, chaos ensues and Homer winds up getting arrested for causing a horrible car accident. During that time, Grandpa Simpson searches for his long lost love. Homer winds up attempting to escape prison, before then getting caught and striking a deal for his freedom. In addition, Homer meets his half-sister in this episode while the family is on vacation.
Season 24, Episode 21
In this episode, Bart and Lisa wind up getting hooked on a show called 'Ki-Ya Karate Monsters' which parodies various different martial arts disciplines in the form of satirical Japanese Anime. Fed up with the kids watching TV, Marge forces them to go to a museum, where Homer learns about probability. This ultimately leads to Homer, Moe, Lenny, and Carl all winning $200,000 on the lottery. While they agree to split the money, Carl then takes off with the winning ticket, leading Homer, Moe, and Lenny to chase him to what European country?
Season 20, Episode 14
This episode begins with the family purchasing a hot tub. While the purchase initially goes over great with the family, Grandpa Abe Simpson then becomes angry when nobody visits him at the old folks home. He goes on a tirade and decides to destroy the hot tub as payback for the family forgetting about him. In an attempt to make it up to Grandpa, the family decides to do something Grandpa wants to do. Season 17, Episode 8
This episode starts off with a bang as Mr. Burns winds up getting teased by the kids of Springfield Elementary for his old car. He decides it's time for an upgrade and sends Springfield Nuclear Power Plant employee Homer overseas with his family to personally pick up his new car for him. Upon getting to this country, the family discovers Sideshow Bob is Mayor of a local town. After exposing Bob as an attempted madman, he is shunned by his former town, and swears a vendetta against the Simpson family. What country did the family visit?
Treehouse of Horror XIV
This episode served as the fourteenth installment of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror special. In the second short of the episode, titled 'Frinkenstein' Homer receives a call informing him that he's the winner of the prestigious Nobel Prize. Despite his excitement, Lisa quickly realizes that the prize is actually going to Springfield scientist Professor Frink, who comes up with the brilliant idea to thaw his father, who was offed in a shark attack, and bring him back to life with science. This goes horribly wrong, and results in Frink Sr going on a rampage at the Nobel Prize ceremony in what country?
Season 22, Episode 1
This episode once again begins with Homer and Lisa watching the nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. After Krusty The Clown is shockingly announced as the winner, he asks Homer to travel with him over to Europe for the awards presentation. Homer, who brings Bart, makes the journey with Krusty, only to realize that his nomination for the Peace Prize was a scheme by the International Court Of Justice to bring Krusty overseas in order to try him for crimes against humanity. Season 16, Episode 12
This episode focus' mainly on Selma Bouvier, Marge Simpsons sister. At the beginning of the episode, she experiences a hot flash while at work, and ends up going to Dr. Hibbert to find out what's wrong with her. Upon learning that she's going through menopause, Selma decides she wants to adopt a baby. This results in Homer having to pretend to be her husband in order to help her adopt a baby from this foreign country. Do you remember which one?
Season 5, Episode 13
This episode took place during what many consider to be the "golden age" of The Simpsons. At the start of the episode, Homer purchases food from the Kwik-E-Mart which makes him sick. After going back to the store and informing Apu what happened, Homer is compensated with buckets of shrimp. Unfortunately, the shrimp also makes Homer sick, and he returns with a hidden camera while doing some investigating for the local news. He catches Apu dropping a hot dog on the floor, and then putting it back on the display counter ultimately leading to him being fired from the Kwik-E-Mart. Season 21, Episode 16
The episode begins with Homer once again disturbing his neighbor, Ned Flanders during Bible Study. This leads to Reverend Lovejoy inviting the Simpson family to travel on a religious trip overseas. Upon arriving, Homer continues to be his stereotypical self, causing Ned to lash out in anger after Homer falls asleep. This results in Ned being banned by security before storming off. Homer attempts to chase Ned, but loses him, and winds up wandering through the desert looking for his neighbor. Homer then becomes dehydrated, and hallucinates, causing him to create a new religion. Season 10, Episode 23
This episode serves as the season 10 finale, concluding what many believe to be the Simpsons "golden age". The episode begins with Homer falling victim to a cyber-hack, and his bank account being drained by notorious Springfield criminal, Snake. After being robbed of his money, Homer decides to rob Ned Flanders house, resulting in the family getting tickets to a seminar on how to save money. The family saves enough money to go on their own vacation, but winds up stealing the Flanders family's tickets to another country. What country is it?
Season 16, Episode 7
In this episode, Homer winds up taking out a second mortgage on his house in order to buy Moe's Tavern after it gets closed down due to a failed health inspection. After taking over ownership of the bar, Marge begins to run it, and develops a friendship with Moe. This leads to Moe revealing his feelings for Marge, much to the dismay of Homer. Season 13, Episode 11
This episode starts off with a bang as Homer steals the Olympic torch as retribution for the Olympics postponing his favorite shows. It's there that Bart meets Hollywood superstar Rainier Wolfcastle's daughter Greta. The pair develop a sort of relationship before Bart's friend Milhouse then swoops Greta off her feet. In this episode, we see the return of Bart's arch-enemy Sideshow Bob. The episode starts with low-threat inmates being released from the Springfield Prison, resulting in a character named 'Walt Warren' moving in next door to the Simpsons. Bart believes the man to be Sideshow Bob, however Marge convinces him otherwise by taking him to see Bob in prison. Unsurprisingly, 'Walt Warren' turns out to be Sideshow Bob and he kidnaps Bart. In this Christmas Simpsons episode, the family winds up taking in local Springfield citizen Gil Gunderson. The episode begins with Homer challenging a trucker to a food eating competition. In the episode, which features an iconic guest appearance from Denis Leary, who voices himself, Bart winds up working at a local golf course. Season 11, Episode 15
In this episode, Homer winds up trying to donate $10,000 to PBS in order to save the network and get them to switch back regularly scheduled programing. He then winds up as a missionary in the Southern Pacific, which results in Homer building a casino, and introducing gambling and alcohol to the formerly peaceful island. Season 18, Episode 6
In this episode, an unlikely duo is formed as Lisa begins to help Moe the bartender with his poetry. Upon Moe gaining attention for his poetry, he begins to experience some level of success thanks to the notice of other poets. After he is invited to the Wordloaf Literary Conference, the friendship between Moe and Lisa quickly falls apart as Moe refuses to give Lisa the credit for the large role she played in making him a successful poet.
