It's makeover time! Can I get a "Yaaaaaaas Kween" over here? Our lives will never be the same following the arrival of Antoni Porowski, the food and wine expert, Karamo Brown, the culture expert, Bobby Berk, the home décor expert, Jonathan Van Ness, the grooming expert, and Tan France, the fashion expert. These guys make up the Fab 5...but they're not the original crew. Did you know that the 2018 Netflix adaptation of "Queer Eye" is based on the 2003 TV show, "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy?" Looks like imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all. Antoni, Karamo, Tan, Bobby, and Jonathan came into our lives like a wrecking ball with their signature catchphrases, hand gestures, and skillful talents in each of their respective areas.
And unlike their predecessors, the revamped Fab 5 are extending their makeovers passed the traditional "straight guy." Season two's female makeover (Tammye) was one of the most emotional yet. And who could forget about the transgender episode with Skyler? It's been an absolute pleasure watching the Fab 5 transform the lives of beautiful people, inside and out. That's the alluring thing about makeovers, we can morph them into whatever we want. Whatever we need.
Who initiated this makeover?
As we've seen many times on Queer Eye, some participants know they need a makeover. Real bad. Others, on the other hand, are somewhat in denial that their fashion is outdated by 10 years or their house is a total mess. That's what the Queer Eye guys are here for! To help out.
What area needs the most help?
None of us are perfect. There's always something that could use improvement, whether it's our house, closet, personal habits, or cooking skills. It's perfectly normal to ask for help as we should all be striving to be better versions of ourselves each and everyday. The second we stop trying, Karamo is disappointed.
What's the end goal?
In the midst of a makeover, it can be helpful to set a goal. A reason or purpose for why this makeover is taking place. Even when times are tough, there's always a light at the end of a tunnel. A makeover can be that light if we're willing to accept the challenge and look into the mirror.
What's the attitude toward this makeover?
A shift in perspective can go a long way. Makeovers invite a mixed bag of emotions that may end in tears, smiles, hugs, or love. There's a reason why so many participants end up crying toward and thanking the Fab 5 for changing their lives. Whatever you're feeling in the moment, go with it!
Choose a makeover level.
Not all makeovers need to be extreme or drastic. Sometimes, all it takes is a bang trim or a new button-up shirt to make all the difference in the world. Some of us are also more open to change and taking chances on our physical appearance. Makeovers are customizable to our wishes and needs.
Choose the dream teammate.
Come on, we all have a favorite member of the Fab 5, and it may have nothing to do with his area of expertise. It could be his winning personality or stunningly handsome looks. It took no time of all for most of us to choose a favorite right from the very first episode.
Choose a city in Atlanta.
The Fab 5 team will travel far and wide (in the state of Georgia, at least) to meet their participants. Nine times out of ten, they roll up to the house in a giant SUV. Remember that time they got fake pulled over and Karamo was freaking out? Classic prank. Where are the Fab 5 headed today?
What will the Fab 5 find during the room raid?
Yep, it's time for the dreaded room raid! Here's how it goes: the Fab 5 show up at your house, barge into your bedroom, and tear the place apart looking for embarrassing items. There's no hiding or going back at this place. But remember, it's all part of the makeover process.
Outer or inner beauty?
People have different priorities, and that's perfectly okay. Some of us may refuse to leave the house without doing our hair and makeup first. Others may value what's on the inside more and have no interest in following the latest fashion trends. A makeover can be whatever we want it to be!
Choose a new hairstyle.
OK, now we're entering Jonathan's territory. Normally he already has a vision in his head about what hairstyle will work best, but he's also open to new ideas from the client. Some hair makeovers are just a subtle trim, while others can be extreme. In the end, the only thing that matters is your happiness.
Choose a hair color.
Imagine how fun it would be to experiment with different hair colors with Jonathan. He's so sassy, so sweet, and most importantly, so honest. If something doesn't look good, he'll be the first to tell us and offer advice on how to change it. Our hair is in good hands with this one, so go ahead and pick a bold color!
Long or short hair?
Work your magic, Jonathan! In the summertime, it can be so refreshing to just chop off our hair and rock a cute pixie cut that requires almost no maintenance and won't keep our shoulders and neck all sweaty. But in the wintertime, long hair can be a saving grace to keep our ears warm.
Choose a makeup look.
Makeup is really just an extension of our hairstyle (and sometimes our personality, too). The trick is mixing and matching the two for one iconic look. Makeovers can be our biggest chance to try something, take a risk, and test the waters. Even if we already have a signature look, why not push the envelope?

It's the battle of the makeup products! Usually our "getting ready" ritual is packed with concealers, bronzers, highlighters, foundation, mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, BB cream, setting spray, eyeliner, blush...the whole gang! What would happen if we were forced to pick only one product? Would the world come to an end? Let's find out.
Bold or nude makeup?
We all have different uses and reasons for applying makeup. Perhaps there's a nasty pimple we're trying to hide with concealer, or maybe we want to highlight our long eyelashes with mascara. Whatever the case may be, makeup can be applied in one of two ways: bold or natural. Take your pick!
What's the occasion?
Most participants on Queer Eye have a special event at the end of the week. It can be something so simple as a first date, but hey, that's a big step to take in the love department. If it's your turn on the show, what occasion is coming up? What are the Fab 5 going to be watching on TV?
Choose a date night look.
Oh la la, it's date night tonight! Feeling excited and giddy on the inside? Better find an outfit to match that warm and fuzzy feeling. The perfect outfit can make or break a first date. For example, high heels during a round of mini golf might be uncomfortable. Choose your clothes wisely!
Choose a fashion risk.
When a new fashion trend hits the runway or the cover of a magazine, not all of us are immediately sold. Some trends are flat out weird, unflattering, or too risky to pull off in everyday wear. That being said, taking a fashion risk every once in a while can be fun! We may discover something new about ourselves.
Choose a shopping store.
As the fashion/style expert, Tan must know the exact addresses of all the hottest shops in Georgia. Regardless of the occassion or personal style, Tan will hook us up with the latest trends, mix and match new textiles, and pick out the right size. The question is, where are we shopping?
Choose a fashion style.
Alright, now it's Tan's turn to shine! He's the wardrobe queen! Tan always tries to incorporate a client's personal style into his makeover without changing too much. The point is to be as authentic as possible during this transition. And, it should also be something that we know how to put on ourselves the right way.
Choose a food theme.
Just because Antoni favors avocado toast for cooking beginners, doesn't mean that's the only dish he can make. We all have our food preferences, but the trick is whipping up something fast and easy for when friends or family come over. Antoni also tries to keep dishes as healthy as possible.
Choose a favorite food.
As the food and wine expert on Queer Eye, Antoni has an endless list of home-cooked recipes up his sleeve. He's made dips, sauces, and skewers, each one more delicious than the next. But even a good guru like Antoni must have his favorites, even if they are on the greasy side.
Choose a cooking level.
Don't feel bad if cereal or dry ramen is the only thing in your pantry, some people are simply better chefs. It can either be perceived as a skill that comes naturally or something that's learned over time (hopefully, with the help of Antoni). Antoni caters his dishes to all cooking levels, from beginners to pros.
What's the dream dish?
There's a reason we can't stop looking at pictures of food on Instagram. Show of hands, how many of us follow at least one chef or food blog on social media? We just can't look away! Food brings us such happiness, especially when it's something extravagent that we could never make at home.
What's a makeover no-go?
There are certain things we're simply not willing to change about ourselves. Perhaps we've grown attached to a beard, or hair color, and an expensive pair of shoes. At the end of the day, the Fab 5 are not trying to change us, but rather improve certain elements of our lives and add a little sparkle to them.
Thoughts on beards?
The Fab 5 have a love/hate relationship with beards. Half the group love a fuzzy face with a rugged lumberjack vibe, the other half think beards look messy and unclean, especially without a little oil in them. Obviously, beards are a hot topic right now with all these hipsters walking around.
Choose a room to re-decorate.
Bobby is extremely talented and all, but there's no way he can re-decorate an entire house in one week! Let's be realistic, here. In the past, Bobby has decorated the bedroom, living room, and an open loft space. We've all seen how amazing his makeovers are, so it's time to put our trust in him.
What's the ideal living situation?
The participants on Queer Eye come from all walks of life. That's what makes the show so interesting; everyone has a different story to tell and a lesson to teach. Some participants are ultimate momma's boys who never left the nest. Others are living the single life, but wish they had someone to shack up with.
Choose a house pet.
Remember that episode where Tan had a total freak out over a participant's dog? The dog was just trying to sniff him out when he ran in the opposite direction and asked if the dog could be left behind closed doors. Clearly, Tan is not a fan of large pets.
Choose a wall paint color.
In the world of fung shui, color means everything! Color sets the vibe of a room. Red can be energetic and romantic, yellow can be happy and excitable, blue can be calming and thoughtful, and green can promote a healthier lifestyle overall. If all the walls had to be one color, what would it be?
Choose a home style.
There's an ongoing joke in the Queer Eye community that Bobby is the most undervalued member of the Fab 5, despite the fact that his projects seem to be the biggest and most tiresome. Hello, he re-decorates an entire room in a week! Talk about the physical labor and sweat!
Choose a new skill.
Looking for a new hobby? Karamo can help out with that! Makeovers don't have to always be about the makeup and hair. Sometimes, we can makeover ourselves and learn a new skill, pick up a new craft, and discover a new favorite past time. After all, isn't happiness the most important thing in life?
Choose an area in life to improve
It's perfectly healthy to feel vulnerable and open up about our insecurities. It's okay to cry on someone's shoulder, talk to a therapist, or take some alone time away from the world. None of us are perfect. We all have something we wish we could improve about ourselves, and Karamo is here to help!
Choose a catchphrase.
New look, no life motto! The classic catchphrases like "Live, Laugh, Love" and "Carpe Diem" are so over thanks to the Fab 5 squad, who burst onto the scene with a bunch of new saying most of us can live by. Let's be real, it seems every new meme has Jonathan's face on it.
What happens next?
And voilà, the makeover is complete! New clothes, new furniture, new cooking skills, new confidence, and new hair. Man, this feels nice...but what's next? Are we going to maintain this makeover, or slip back into our old ways because it feels comfortable and familiar? What happens when the Fab 5 leave?
