The path to true love is rarely straightforward. Sometimes it takes a few tries before we find our soulmate. The truth is, relationships come and go - especially in the world of television - and no series makes that more apparent than the sitcom FRIENDS. The gang had their fair share of love interests through the ages on their way to finding that special someone. Sure, we all had our hopes that certain couples would stand the test of time, but for the most part, there were countless ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends inevitably left behind (some more memorable than others...)
We witness so many meetings, crushes, honeymoon phases, and breakups. Sometimes all within the span of one or two episodes! The series is quite an emotional roller coaster. Even though most of the subject matter is light-hearted - there are quite a few profound moments in the series.
So, whether you've just binged the series on NETFLIX, or you grew up watching FRIENDS reruns on television, this quiz will test just how many of the romantic pairings you can remember! Some of these relationships may have been short-lived, but each romantic interaction helped to shape the characters we know and love. Who dated Alan?
We always hope our friends get along with our significant other. In this case, the FRIENDS gang immediately fell in love with Alan. The only downside to your friends loving your boyfriend/girlfriend is that when you break up with them, you feel guilty for letting your friends down! This is exactly what happens in this episode. The character finds it difficult to cut ties with Alan because they don't want to disappoint their friends. Can you remember who had a relationship with Alan?
Who dated Tag Jones?
This cutie worked as an assistant for one of the FRIENDS gang. Can you remember who? Talk about blurring the lines between work and pleasure! The relationship lasted for 7 episodes between Season 7 and 8. The relationship went well, but the age gap made things difficult. Tag is 5 years younger than the woman he dates in the series. They break up because Tag doesn't seem to be ready for a serious commitment. It's really too bad because Tag is such a cutie!
Who dated Aurora?
How would you feel if a woman wanted you to share her with 3 other men? One of those men being her husband? That's exactly what happens to this member of the FRIENDS gang. Talk about a surprise! He may have been looking for an exclusive relationship - but that isn't exactly what Aurora had in mind. Polyamory wasn't as popular in the nineties I guess? Anyways, this brief relationship ended as quickly as it began. Just wasn't meant to be.
Who dated Phoebe's sister Ursula?
In the episode "The One With Two Parts: Part One," this character asks Phoebe for her permission to date Ursula, Phoebe's twin sister. She initially gives her blessing but eventually realizes she's not okay with the pairing. In the end, this relationship ends because Ursula flakes out. The friendship between this character and Phoebe thankfully remains intact. How would you feel if one of your best friends wanted to date your sibling? Do you think you'd give them your blessing?
Who Dated Paolo?
Can you remember who hooked up with this gorgeous Italian man? His English might not have been great, but he was such a piece of eye candy! He appeared briefly in season 1, and dated one of the FRIENDS gang. The relationship was purely sexual, and Paolo often bought his girlfriend gifts of jewellery and shoes. Too bad he ends up making a pass at one of the other members of the gang, prompting a breakup. The relationship didn't continue beyond that indiscretion.
Who Dated Julie?
Julie first appears in "The One Where Rachel Finds Out." This relationship blossoms after one of the gang go on a trip to China. They return from the trip as a couple. Julie is unfortunately sabotaged by one of the FRIENDS a few times. She almost adopts a cat with her significant other, but the relationship doesn't make it that far. Let's just say, the breakup doesn't go well. Julie becomes very angry, and throws things. Julie was portrayed by actress Lauren Tom.
Who Dated Julio?
In the episode "The One With All The Jealousy," a member of the FRIENDS group hooks up with an amateur poet, and busboy. While many women would be attracted by the prospect of dating a poet, this guy, unfortunately, writes a pretentious work about women being "empty." This doesn't go over well with the woman he is dating. She is so offended that she decides to cut things off and to embarrass him by sending a barbershop quartet to since him a scathing breakup song.
Who dated Charlie Wheeler?
Charlie Wheeler (played by actress Aisha Tyler) is a paleontology professor at NYU. Her first appearance is in the episode "The One With The Soap Opera Party." She appears in nine episodes of the series and is mentioned in one afterward. She has had previous relationships with two Nobel Prize winners, and a winner of a genius grant. What a tough act to follow, am I right? Any guy would feel a little insecure about his level intelligence knowing that her former partners were so smart.
Who Dated Jason AND Vince at the Same Time?
In "The One With Ross's Thing," this member of the FRIENDS group dates two guys at once. (It's okay to play the field, right?) One of the guys is a firefighter, and the other is a kindergarten teacher. Vince was more tough, and manly while Jason was sweet and grounded. In the end, both relationships ultimately fail. Vince, the firefighter initiates the breakup because "he can't be with someone that would have a flame in the middle of a wooded area," while Jason initiates a breakup because he finds out this member of the FRIENDS gang is "cheating" by dating two guys at once.
Who Dated Kathy?
This relationship begins at Central Perk during Season 4 in the episode "The One With Joey's New Girlfriend." Kathy is an actress and part-time medical researcher. She is one of the more controversial side characters to appear on the series. Her introduction into the gang leads to some interesting, and complicated dynamics. Some friendships are strained - almost to the breaking point. What was your opinion of Kathy as a character? Can you remember which member of the gang she ends up dating?
Who Went On A Date With Jean Claude?
Jean Claude plays himself as an actor on the set of a movie called "Outbreak 2." His first and only appearance was in "The One After The Super Bowl, Part 2." He's a handsome guy, and can apparently "crush a walnut with his butt" (WOW!) He has a very, very brief relationship with one of the FRIENDS gang. This is another guest character who causes some friction in the group. There is definitely some infighting and jealousy that occurs with his introduction to the series.
Who Dated Russ?
Oh boy. Is it Ross's doppelganger? A long-lost brother? A clone? Whoever he is, you have to admit the resemblance to Ross Gellar is uncanny. Russ appears for the first time in his self-titled episode "The One With Russ." He dates one of the members of the core FRIENDS group, much to the bewilderment of everyone else. After his relationship with one of the FRIENDS, he actually ends up with one of the other guest stars - Julie.
Who Dated David?
This guy is a true sweetheart. Dorky, and adorable - this physicist appears for the first time in "The One With The Monkey." He has also been referred to as "David The Scientist Guy." He has difficulty speaking clearly, or without "umms" and "aaaahs." (I personally find this quality very endearing). His relationship with one of the FRIENDS is ended when he decides to go to Minsk to study sub-atomic particles. David is portrayed by famous comedian and voice actor Hank Azaria.
Who Dated Mona?
Mona appears for a large portion of season 8. She is portrayed by actress Bonnie Somerville. She first appears in "The One After I Do." She is actually a colleague of Monica's at Allesandro's, though her actual position there is never specified. Her relationship with one of the FRIENDS ends up getting serious enough to almost move in together. Unfortunately, the relationship ultimately ends because things get too complicated. I really thought she might end up with this character too!
Who Dated Janice?
Oh God... Who could forget that particularly annoying laughter of Janice! Braying, nasally and supremely irritating! This laughter became one of the show's signature recurring gags. She's one of the few guest characters to make an appearance in every season of the show! Even if you didn't see every season, you should have seen at least one episode with Janice in it. This character is portrayed by actress Maggie Wheeler. (Her laugh isn't as irritating in real life, thank god!)
Who Dated "Young" Ethan?
Ethan appears in the episode "The One With The Ick Factor." In this episode he lies and says he's a senior in college, and that he's 22. He also admits that he is a virgin. After him and one of the FRIENDS hook up, he reveals that he's actually a senior in HIGH SCHOOL (which is kindof icky). Too bad the age gap is so significant, these two could have really had something special! Age ain't nothing but a number right?
Who Dated Paul Stevens?
Paul Stevens appears in 3 episodes in season 6. He is played by Bruce Willis. Paul is actually the father of Elizabeth Stevens - a student of Ross's. One of the FRIENDS gang ends up falling for him, despite a significant age difference. They actually end up going on a double date with Ross and Elizabeth! Paul picks on Ross mercilessly, no matter how much he tries to be polite. Paul's wife, unfortunately, dies when Elizabeth is just a baby.
Who Dated "Fun Bobby?"
Fun Bobby appears in both season 1 and 2. The FRIENDS are excited to meet him at a New Years Eve party when they hear about how "fun" he is. Unfortunately, after the recent passing of his grandfather, Bobby is down in the dumps. No longer fun to be around, he sinks into a deep depression. Later on in the series, he develops an alcohol problem. (This guy sucks!) Fun Bobby becomes Dull Bobby and his relationship comes to an end.
Who Dated Janine LeCroix?
Janine is a roommate of one of the gang. Can you remember who? Dating your roommate isn't always the best idea though... What happens when you break up? (And given the track record of the FRIENDS, a breakup is likely an inevitability). Janine appears for the first time in "The One Where Phoebe Runs." She unfortunately insults Monica a few times leading to the end of her relationship and also her moving out of the apartment she shares with one of the gang.
Who Dated Roger?
Roger's first appearance is in "The One With The Boobies." He's a psychologist who bothers the rest of the gang with his ability to predict their feelings and determines the real reason behind their actions. They all end up saying "I hate that guy." The person who dates him ends up feeling the same what and kicking him to the curb. Can you blame her? Who would want to be constantly psychoanalyzed? That has to get old eventually. Good riddance!
Who Dated Richard Burke?
This relationship is another with a fairly large age gap. 21-years to be exact. The relationship is kept as a secret for this very reason. Of course, everyone eventually discovers the relationship. There is some shock at first, but once they see how happy the couple is they come to accept it. The breakup centers around their differing opinions on children. One of them wants them, the other doesn't. That is the risk you run when dating someone who is much older than you!
Who Dated Barry?
Barry Farber was engaged to one of the gang back in 1994. (Seems like ages away now eh?) He first appears in the episode "The One With The Sonogram At The End." He works as an orthodontist and isn't the most interesting of people. He also has a history of cheating! This player cheats on multiple people over the course of the series. One of the gang comes to the realization that Barry looks uncannily like "Mr. Potato Head." Maybe it's best that this relationship didn't end up working out.
Who Dated Joshua?
Joshua appears in five episodes during season 4. He is a client of one of the gang. Joshua is working through a recent divorce. As often happens in the series, a series of unfortunate coincidences are what bring this relationship to an end. Joshua is put off by the prospect of marriage after his divorce, so when one of the FRIENDS gang answers the door in a wedding dress, saying "I Do" - Joshua ends up running for the hills.
Who Dated Paul The Wine Guy?
Paul actually appears in the pilot of the series. Can you remember who he was dating? He feeds one of the gang a line about "not being able to perform sexually since his divorce," which apparently is a line that he's fed to multiple women. When this member of the gang finds out she dumps him and stomps on his watch for an added kick. This just goes to show that when it comes to love - honesty is always the best policy.
Who Dated Erin?
Erin appears in "The One With Ross's Library Book." She ends up befriending the girls of the gang. Erin is quite a catch! She speaks 4 languages, she's a Mets fan, drinks beer, likes sandwiches. To top it all off, she's absolutely beautiful. The girls of the gang think that "cupid" brought her into one of the men's lives for a serious relationship. Too bad she decides her relationship "has no spark." Erin was portrayed by Kristin Davis who also appears in the hit show Sex and the City.
