The horror movie genre has been around since the silent era and is said to have begun with a 3-minute film called “Le Manoir du Diable”, or The House of the Devil. Created by French illusionist, Georges Méliès in 1896, the film wasn’t meant to instill shock or fear the way that modern horror does, but rather to awe and wow. Horror has evolved into an all-encompassing genre which includes crime thrillers, science fiction, supernatural specters, and slasher flicks. From haunted houses and demonic toys to cunning killers and zombie hordes, horror movies thrill and chill us in the best possible way.
One thing which sets a horror movie apart from the next is its villain. Some feature one sinister character, while others have an ensemble cast of creatures.
