It takes a certain kind of person to enjoy a Horror film. Depending on what era it’s from, the level of violence gore or suspense can vary. There’s also the type of film to consider, and the director who might have a distinct style that appears in their films. For instance, a Wes Craven film might have creepy dream-like sequences while a John Carpenter flick will combine intense gore with stark contrasts in lighting. So no two horror films are exactly alike, except when they’re trying to copy the styles of more successful movies that came beforehand.

The best kind of horror film is not only frightening and tells a good story, but also has relatable characters. Otherwise, you start delving into Slasher flicks where the killers tend to be more interesting than the main characters or Torture Porn where it’s nothing but brutal killings whether the killer is interesting or not. Not to say either of these two genres are bad, because it all comes down to a matter of tolerance levels and taste.
